After living in Boston for most of my life, I can't believe I had never been to Cheers. I'm glad my friend suggested stopping by after our walk around the city. We visited on a Sunday in the middle of the afternoon, and the place was packed with customers. It was somewhat loud, but that added to the lively atmosphere. Our server took our drink order and brought our drinks out quickly. I ordered the BBQ chicken flatbread pizza. It was decent and a pretty generous portion. I actually ended up taking half of it home. I was so excited on my first trip to Boston to check out Cheers. Bull & Funch Pub was the original name and it opened in 1969. But was renamed to Cheers in 2002 after the exterior was used in the TV show. We rode the Old Town Trolley and this was one of the stops. We got off the bus at roughly 10:45 AM, and there was a line to the street corner of folks waiting to get in as it didn't open until 11:00. We got in shortly after the doors opened and found a seat at the bar downstairs. I had a 20 oz blueberry hefeweizen. It was refreshing and yummy! Lisa took great care of us. She was the only bartender and did an excellent job serving the crowd! The upstairs bar is a smaller replica of the bar on the show. There were lots of photo opportunities upstairs as they had a huge wall mural with all the Cheers characters as well as other lifesize cutouts outside the gift shop. Being that I am a Bostonian, Cheers was always on my bucket list but never need the top of it. But after a long walk around Boston, we ended up on the steps of the Cheers, my boyfriend and I looked at each other and said why not. It was a chilly evening right at the beginning of fall so we wanted something cozy to warm up in. I actually didn't realize the replica bar upstairs wouldn't be open, although I think sometimes it is because I've seen pictures where there's people sitting in it, but I think mostly they use it for show. We saw people coming from downstairs so we decided to check it out. When we got inside the place was packed. The bar had no seats whatsoever so we stood by the countertop right behind the bar. We got a downeast hard cider on draft, which was really good. Luckily seats opened up at the counter. The bartender let us know that we could purchase the mugs if we wanted to bring them home. I decided not to as we were walking and taking the train home, but I might come back to get one so I can have the memorabilia. The downstairs bar is very cozy. It's sort of centers the room and around it our tables where you could eat at. I overhead the staff say the tables are just for food and drink -- I think because it's so busy. When you continue on past the bar, you get to a mini gift shop right before the bathrooms, they also had name tags where you could write your name on, which was cool. My boyfriend surprised me with a magnet because he knows I collect them, which was cute. Next to the bathrooms are stairs to go visit the replica bar from the show. This is also where they have the main gift shop with plenty of things you could take home, including shirts, sweatshirts, mugs, magnets, and other cool stuff too. Honestly working in the hospitality industry I will recommend this bar to tourists and to locals. Even though it is very touristy, there is quality behind it so it works well. "Where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came...." While in Boston, I decided to do the tourist thing and visit Cheers (I also did the Hop-On Hop-Off bus sightseeing tour lol). When we first entered, the bar area downstairs was packed, so we were asked if we were there for food or just drinks. We were there for food, so we were given a ticket and told how to get to another part of the restaurant where there was additional seating. Let me tell you... I felt like a rat in a maze trying to find it! But we eventually made our way to the other seating area. We were initially seated in this REALLY tiny space where the table was practically pushing into my abdomen. It was not comfortable at all, and honestly, that little space they're trying to utilize needs to go. We ended up moving ourselves to another table that had much more room. It took a little while for our waiter to come over, but once they did, they were pleasant. I will say, I was expecting some cool Cheers-style greetings or something, but nope! I guess everybody didn't know our names after all! Now for the food... I ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a Root Beer and, for dessert, the Boston Cream Pie. Everything was delicious to me! And honestly, I was pleasantly surprised. For a touristy spot, I didn't have high expectations at all, so needless to say, my expectations were exceeded! I'd definitely come back to try some of the other food options, and maybe buy a souvenir next time. The souvenir shop was packed when we went, so I'll have to check it out on my next visit. Yeah, ok, we caved and came to the tourist attraction. But you know what? This was a very pleasant surprise. First off, yes, it's not the bar from the show. But they have done a great job giving the entire joint a serious style and vibe that makes it feel like you could have taken it right out of the television. Lots of vintage decor and show memorabelia, definitely cool to see. The establishment kind of consists of three or four different dining rooms, and you know that it will almost certianly be busy when you come, as it was when we did. But I gotta give props to the staff, who did a great job juggling to many customers and still getting everything out in pretty quick order. The drink menu is pretty standard, with a good selection of beers on tap, including a really good house hazy that I recommend. And of course, wine and cocktails available. And as for food, it is mostly lots of pub favorites, with some house specialties tailored to certain characters. We both wound up going with the Giant Norm Burger, which was excellent. Two beef patties, plenty of cheese, and lots of sauteed mushrooms. Definitely a winner! And price wise, I was pleasantly surprise, as it didn't seem any more expensive than other similar pub sorts of places we explored in Boston, so good on them for not falling into the tourist trap mindset. All told, Cheers was a surprise on this Boston trip. Surprising we went, and surprising how much we enjoyed it. If you want a taste of nostalgia AND a taste of good burgers, definitely consider swinging by if you are visiting. read more

Tina was awesome and welcomed us to Boston, let alone Cheers! If you're a fan of the show, Boston drinking History and the culture, I would say definitely check this spot out, otherwise there's not much point waiting around for an overly packed bar for drinks you could get elsewhere for less hassle. Not too far from out hotel, we walked through the park, found it and went down stairs. I just had to see it. Woe. It was smaller than I thought it would be. We walked around to the back side. I'll be honest, I was a little disappointed the second I walked in the door. I walked in, said "Good afternoon everybody" and nobody said my name. Thought this place was where everybody knows your name?? Haha Seriously, we were on our way to the airport and unfortunately did not have time to try out the food. Pretty anti-climactic experience as it looks nothing like the bar on the show Cheers. The interior is quite small and the bar itself is tiny seating only a max of apx 10 patrons. We had to go to the Cheers Bar when we were in Boston. It was easy to find in Beacon Hill area. It was very busy. They had three bar areas. We sat in the replica set bar which appeared much smaller in real life. We sat at the bar after being seated at a high top. There appeared to be a leak and water was all over the floor between the bar and the table. It took some time for staff to clean up the water. We were told to be careful and not to fall. For nostalgia purposes, this is a great stop to make when visiting the city. I'm a 90s kid who watched the show with fascination, so my inner child loved all of this. The gift shop with the replica bar is actually worth the visit. The bar itself is tiny, and crowded. My colleague and I dropped by as a final stop of our business trip to grab lunch. Why not?. I ordered Rebecca's Fish & Chips, and it was excellent--crispy, light, and flavorful without being greasy. The fries were golden and seasoned just right. My colleague went with the Burger Meister and he enjoyed how savory it was. Big portions, great flavor, and exactly what you want from a classic pub style meal. The atmosphere was warm, fun, and very "Boston," with friendly staff and that iconic cozy vibe. Before leaving I grabbed couple of Cheers coffee mug on my way out, because nothing says "responsible adult" like drinking your morning coffee from a mug that reminds you of a fictional bar. While researching and coming up with an itinerary for our trip to Boston, we knew visiting the original Cheers was a must! It is located in Beacon Hill, across from the Commons! We arrived around 5 or 6pm and got lucky enough to grab a seat at one of their bar areas - yes, there were a couple. We ordered at least 2 or 3 drinks each because....why not? I loved that even though this is a very well known dive bar, they still offered fun Fall drinks that I of course ordered - like a Pumpkin Mudslide and a Chai drink.
