This is one of those challenging reviews. This place should be epic with its pub vibe and amazing music. It just falls short with a generous 4 rating. The music and atmosphere were the highlight and a strong 5. For pub fare, the food was a strong 4. The service is the biggest challenge at 2.5. The bar is simply understaffed and table service is limited. In the category of fool me twice, we had ordered a Guinness and a Jamison and we were given some Jack, honey or terrible alternative. For an Irish bar, that is just table stakes to be able to provide a beautiful Jamison's rather than some rot gut. But, after waiting 10 minutes to get the beer at the bar and then return to our table you don't have patience to check one of the staff consistently barrel through the space bumping me while other patrons didn't do the same. I just made it odd. He did apologize in the end. It was very good pub fair including an appetizer plate was just really well done. Nice plate of healthy nachos. Topped with chicken. For dinner the pesto chicken sandwich was really tasty, the steak tips were quality and reasonably priced value for Boston while the Caesar salad was fresh and good pub fair. Went to The Bebop on a random Thursday afternoon. Turns out that it was open mic night. There were maybe 3 or 4 people in the bar and one person, not untalented, playing guitar very loudly. I guess I can't complain but I could barely get my drink order in because of the noise. Laid-back, divey vibe with a kind of light Irish theme. A small second story with seating. This was my first time at the Bebop and I had no idea what to expect. One thing I did anticipate is that parking would be challenging (after all this spot is located in the heart of Back Back). Once we found a place to park, we walked a short distance to attend the Thursday night open mic and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere is "Irish pub meets Berklee student hangout meets Townies" and it was all love when it came to the patrons. We heard some incredible performances, ate amazing food, and the female bartender was very attentive despite being so busy. The highlights of the evening were listening to Cornbread the Artist perform his catchy song, "Purple Dandelions" and eating the best pub food I've had in a long time. I HIGHLY recommend the fried calamari (it was cooked to perfection...tender and lightly breaded...served with banana peppers) and bbq wings which were also prepared really well. The location adjacent to Berklee, made for an interesting and varied street scene. Both of us ordered the same thing - fish and chips. Two nice sized pieces of, what looked like, haddock placed on top of crisp fries was delicious. The topper was a green side salad which was included. It came with tartar sauce, which I used solely for the fries, preferring lemon on my fish, that tasted home-made. Combined with good beer, highly enjoyable meal. And all a5 a reasonable price. Have been a couple times for trivia (def reserve a spot or get there early because the space can be small and there's usually always a lot of people there) and I can say so far, it's one of my favorite trivia places! I did not get the chance to be served in Bebop because of discriminatory policies that do not let Puerto Rican ID's in (even though we are a U.S. territory). The overall experience was horrible, even though I complied and was willing to show US passport, but still got denied. Would not recommend anyone international or from the US to go to this establishment. The only reason I was let in is because of we said it was a discriminatory policy to the white, bleached shaven head bouncer, but got denied any type of service. I have never received such hostile service in my time living in Boston, if I could give 0 stars it would be given to this establishment. read more

We were in town for Pearl Jam at Fenway, and The Bebop was right around the corner from our hotel (Citizen M). We stopped for a mid afternoon drink on Tuesday and the staff was so friendly, we stopped later the same day for dinner pre-concert. They had student musicians (Berklee school of music is across the street) playing both times we were there which was an added bonus. One girl's cover of Sarah Bareilles "Gravity" was sensational! We had the Guinness stew, clam chowder and steak tips for dinner and everything was delicious (and reasonably priced). Despite being busy with the show at Fenway, the food came out pretty quickly and the staff was on top of refilling drinks. The manager (Nori?) was awesome. After the world's longest day of walking around Boston, I fell into a booth here at the Bebop. Had the nicest most patient server (did not catch her name, sorry!) and delicious food. I had the vegetarian shepherd's pie and shared curry fries with friends. There was live music that was a collection of about 10 various stringed instruments (violins, guitars, banjos, and one stand up bass) that was lovely. The only thing I'll warn about is the iced tea.
