Solid Italian restaurant in the North End. Loved that on a Saturday morning it was nice and quiet, with the sun shining through the large windows. Ordered the burrata (nice and creamy, and lightly salted), and the lobster gnocchi. The potato gnocchi was soft, and cooked to perfection, vodka sauce was rich and creamy (but not toooooo heavy), and there was a large amount of both lobster claw and tail in the pasta. Literally the rudest manager I've ever met and the host was incompetent. We got there right on time for our reservation and they would not seat us without the full party being there. We ended up eating across the street and they served us without any problems. When I cancelled the reservation with the host the manager literally yelled at me for "causing him to loose a table". Went here based on a high recommendation from a friend. Ordered two things: Insalata Di Mira- it was ok. The balance of the fresh greens mixed with the sweet strawberries and dried cranberries was nice, but the large amount of cheese was a big overwhelming. Carbonara Con Gamberoni- the pasta was slightly softer than I typically liked- not the normal al dente, the sauce was ok. The highlight was the shrimp which was cooked perfectly. Nando is a treat from beginning to end. We ended up stumbling upon it as we were waiting for another reservation that never came to be. They were able to sit our group of 5 rather quickly. This has been our go-to North End restaurant for years but our last 2 visits have been terrible. In August our food was so salty we had to send it back. Figuring it was just an off night we went back this weekend. We needed to ask for water and bread for our table multiple times, it took over 20 minutes for us to get cocktails and when they did arrive they were wrong. Once we were finally able to place our order we waiting 40 minutes for our appetizer which never arrived. We spoke to the hostess who assured us our food was coming but after an hour we just got up and left. We are disappointed that one of our favorites has taken such a bad turn. Really enjoyable. Nando reminds me of my faves from NYC Little Italy. I mean that in a good way. We made a rez (a must-do) for a Sunday dinner. It turns out that in August there are festivals every weekend, and we caught the tail end of one of the bigger ones. It was busy, loud, and looked like crazy fun. We watched everything from our window table. The windows were out so it was like we were part of the party. Our five-top ordered an array of apps, main dishes, desserts, and a great chianti from their extensive wine list. There was not a bad dish in the mix. Some were daily specials, some were menu items. The staff we interacted with was exceptional. A special bonus was the young man, from Colombia I think, who serenaded us with opera tunes in Italian. Have been here before and have loved it, but my last experience made it so I would not go back. Got to my reservation on time and was told it would be a few minutes and they told us to go to the bar. We stood at the bar for 30 minutes with the bartender obviously ignoring us. When two seats opened up in front of us, my friend and I sat down. Immediately the bartender rudely told us we weren't allowed to sit there (even though it was first come first serve) and offered the seats to other standing people who already had drinks. When I politely got up and asked if we could order a drink, she snapped and said she needed a few more minutes. It took her another 20 minutes to get to us. We finally got seated an hour after our reservation with no apology or anything to make up for it. The food and drinks were good but the service ruined the experience. read more

Never even got to eat here. The lady working the hostess stand this past Saturday was one of the rudest people I have had to deal with in a customer service role. We had a reservation and unfortunately there was a delay on the T , go figure, so we arrived 8 minutes after our reservation time. The lady's response was 15 minutes late. When I told her it was only 8 minutes she said, yea well you're still late and we just gave your table away. She was then surprised that we declined to wait the 45 minutes to eat there. The food May or may not be good but the service right off the bat sucks. I don't usually write reviews but I have to give this place five stars. Our experience was so lovely. We got there without our whole group, but they were happy to seat us. Our waitress was patient w our chaotic group and also just very sweet. I remember where she said she was from but not her name ugh! The gnocchi and eggplant appetizer might have been some of my favorite food i've had in the north end. Feels like I found a hidden gem! Hope they'll welcome our crazy group again :) read more

The food is good, but not great (and it's the North End where amazing food abounds). It is a decent small space with an open kitchen and cute bar area. That is the good news. The owner of this restaurant is one of the rudest, least hospitable host that I have ever encountered in the North End (or anywhere else). Super special spot! We celebrated my husband's birthday while in Boston for the weekend. Where do I start!?? The burrata prosciutto and poached pear appy was drizzled with fin aged balsamic! The service exceeded our expectations!!! Next was the octopus that brought us back to San Vito Lo Capo Italy. The whole Branzino (Mediterranean sea bass) was a show stopper. Cute place and like most of the restaurants in the North End, very small. Tables are so close, you feel like you are dining with strangers. That being said, we sat next to a couple who were pleasant. Our server was attentive but we never felt rushed. Excellent service all around. We started with Ruffino Chianti which was delightful. Fresh bread and olive oil were brought to our table immediately. We then ordered the meatballs as an appetizer and they were delicious - reminded me of my mother's. My husband had the Veal Parmesan and I had the Veal Mare E Monti. All were wonderful. We ordered a variety of small dishes from the appetizer menu to share, since we didn't want a heavy lunch. We ordered the Polpette (meatballs), Cesare salad (had whole white sardines included), and the Brodetto di scoglio (Prince Edward Island mussels, stone crab claws in garlic, EVOO, and grilled parsley ciabatta). Nando is literally one of the most friendly - welcoming - greet you with a warm hug restaurants I have ever been. My wife and I arrived in the North End on a busy Friday evening looking for dinner. As you can guess, every place was packed (including Nando). But what caught our attention was the super friendly hostess (who may have been one of the owners) who we stopped to chat with. She could tell we were from out of town and took her valuable time to chat with us and took a genuine interest in where were from. After a few minutes of chatting, a table opened up and were sat at nice table outside. Our waitress immediately came by and took our drink orders and that was the beginning of one my most memorable dining experiences in recent memory. Of course the food was amazing. My wife was drooling with every bite of her swordfish. My chicken parm was perfectly balanced and was one of the best I've had. Our server checked in us often and made sure we were never had an empty glass or plate on our table. Boston is filled with some of the best restaurants in the country, but this gem stands out at near the top. read more

Taking a trip through Little Italy and came across this nice looking restaurant. Our group took a seat and for how busy it seems to be the staff was friendly and pretty speedy. I had some Lobster Ravioli and a Cesare Salad. The price seemed a little high for the portion size, but you can tell that everything was very fresh and it was so flavorful. This was such a wonderful find! My sister had visited me and of course really wanted Italian food from "Little Italy" in the North End and all she wanted was lobster ravioli. We decided to just explore the North End and see where we wandered to. I am so glad we ended up at Nando's! When we walked up, we found out there were reservations. By our good fortune, a reservation didn't show so we got seated right away in a prime window spot overlooking the Freedom Trail. It was magical with the summer evening breeze. We really enjoyed the experience. We had a great server who provided us with recommendations. We first split a Cesar salad and for entrees I tried the lobster gnocchi and of course my sister got her lobster ravioli. Let me tell you, some of the best I've had!! Both of those were also recommended by the server as some of her favorite dishes, so win-win! The menu had a lot to offer so I would definitely go back. The tables around us seemed to really enjoy their food too, so it seems like you can't go wrong here. Overall, a dream of an experience! We had a 7:45 reservation. We showed up at 7:40 and were told the table wasn't ready. It was no big deal; it happened. After 2 groups were seated before us that didn't have a reservation, but they knew the owner, it was clear why our table wasn't ready. Another group with a reservation at 7:30 was seated around 8:15, and we were finally seated at 8:25, which is wild for having a reservation! The food was good! Don't get me wrong; if it were in a small town, it would be worth the wait. However, for an Italian restaurant on Hanover St. in Boston, it was NOT WORTH IT. They also didn't do anything to compensate or make up for the delay. Things happen, which I understand; it is how you handle it that makes the difference. There are so many incredible spots in the North End that I would not recommend Nando's. If someone told me they already had a reservation, I would say you'll like the food, but make sure you get seated with your reservation. How I rate in stars: 1 - Openly tell people how bad it is and passionately tell them not to go there. 2- If asked, I will say I didn't like it, but won't go out of my way to pan it 3. Not something I would bring up or talk passionately about, but if someone asked, I would say they should enjoy it, nothing special. 4. I will recommend this place and will go there again! 5. Went to this Ristorante on Aug 31st. Sat at the outside patio outside St Stephen's church. The patio was filthy the tables chairs and the patio itself was loaded with bird droppings the staff did nothing to try to clean off the tables. I understand this could happen when eating outside but the staff placed cloth napkins right on top of the bird droppings. As for the food I ordered veal parm with macaroni. The veal was the size of a pack of cigarettes, and the macaroni was mushy. Also, the food had zero flavor. read more

Great restaurant in the North End of Boston; right on Hanover Street. We made a reservation on Open Table on a Friday night around 8:30 and only had to wait a short time for a table. It was a very busy place, tables packed close together and very loud. (As are most of the other restaurants around) They are on a corner and had the full floor to ceiling windows open on both sides of the corner. It was great to be almost outside and people watch while we were dining. Our waitress, Hortensa, (not sure of spelling,) was delightful. She checked on us regularly and gave us her sincere recommendations. They had many seafood options; I don't eat seafood, so I was choosing between a ravioli dish and the chicken Parmesan. She suggested the chicken, and I loved it! It was a huge portion, and the chicken was tender, tasty, and cooked to perfection. It also came over a small portion of pasta, also cooked perfectly. I believe the price was $27 or $28; well worth it! My husband loves seafood and gnocchi so he went with the lobster gnocchi and he said it was delicious. It was also a large portion and about $32. One of the best things about our meal was the complementary bread and olive oil. It was honestly the best bread I've had in a long time. The oil was perfect and it was served with a few assorted olives; nice touch! ( I would come back again just for the bread! We had a few drinks along with our meal since there was a full bar. Everything came out quickly and we definitely enjoyed our dining experience at Nando's. True confessions; we were late arriving for our reservation but we called ahead to let them know about traffic. Our table was waiting for us when we arrived. We were seated across the side street in an outdoor church courtyard which was fine but a bit busy. Service was slow. Drinks were good. Unfortunately, entrees took forever to come out. The owner visited our table after almost 90 minutes of waiting to tell us they were short handed. On a positive note, the veal (wife) and chicken (me) Saltimbocca were both very good and the pasta that came with was delicious. Our son has a seafood special with clams, mussels and a 1 1/2 pound lobster. Should have been served with some crusty bread to soak up the broth and 3 of the 4 clams were unopened. Should never have left the kitchen like that. D-I-L had halibut which she said was a little dry and our fifth guest had the gnocchi. We were 30-40 minutes late for our concert which shouldn't have happened and really colored the whole experience. Too bad. read more

The food: The best part was the pastas made in house. - Appetizer melanzana alla Siciliana: essentially eggplant Parmesan. Generous serving for an appetizer. This was very enjoyable, the buffalo mozzarella was nicely melted. I enjoyed using the bread to dip in this sauce. - pappardelle bolognese: pasta was amazing in terms of freshness and cooked perfectly. Very sad when the last bite was gone. - carbonara con gamberoni: again fusilli pasta was made and cooked perfectly. Generous eggy sauce and pancetta bits. Plump large shrimp. If I had to make a suggestion, wishing the shrimp could've been grilled or flavored more. - tiramisu: usually can't go wrong with this in an Italian restaurant. We devoured this in seconds. The service: Enrique took wonderful care of us! Very attentive and courteous. The ambiance: One of the elements that sets Nando apart from other restaurants in the North End is the decor. Very modern with marble details in the tables, wall, and plates, vs classic Italian paintings in the other restaurants. The seats are also more comfortable. This is a nice place for date nights. The wait: We came on a cold weeknight in February. No wait. The restaurant was half full, which is better than a lot of the other restaurants we passed by in North End that night. To avoid wait during more busy times, easy reservations on open table via Google. Minimal wait for food to be served. Misc: Similar to other restaurants in the North End, Nando is pricey, ~$15-20 for appetizers, ~$25-30+ for entrees. Entree portions are medium sized. I ordered the Spaghetti Cacio Pepe e Tartufo and it was divine. The sauce was a perfect blend of cheese, cracked black pepper, truffle and wine. The pepper provides a little spicy kick to the pasta. All the lights were on which was just so strange for the ambiance of an Italian restaurant in the north end. We got seated in the basement which smelled really weird and looked really takcy. Next to our table was a lit yankee candle which we asked them to blow out which they weren't very happy about. Aren't we supposed to be smelling the food? Halfway through our meal someone came back to relight it and moved the candle but like why did they need a candle lit so bad?? It was just such a strange experience and the vibes were just off.
