Well, there had to be a first and this was it! I went here EXCLUSIVELY because of its YELP rating, and boy was I disappointed!!!!! It's located in Boston on a street with dozens of restaurants. Initially, I went there to go to Neptune's seafood, but the line was too long and I did not want to wait. So I opened my Yelp app and check out all the other restaurants in the immediate area. Tremonte had the highest rating out of the restaurant in the area, so I decided to give it a try. As the saying goes "never judge a book by its cover", I should have judged this book by the cover. The Restaurant, the only one I passed by, had only one diner in it. I trust yelp and have never been disappointed so I thought I would give it a try anyway. As big as the restaurant was, the one person running the Front of the House sat me right next to the only other person in the restaurant. It was initially extremely awkward, but we struck up a conversation that lasted our entire stay there. I ordered a Caesar Salad as an appetizer and a Chicken Parmesan as my entrée. The Caesar salad could not have been any more generic. Just a head of Romain, cut up, with croutons and their Caesar dressing. No whole pieces of Parmesan cheese and I really really doubt that the Caesar dressing was homemade. It was seriously no difference than I can make it home. Fresh cracked black pepper or extra Parmesan cheese was not even offered. It should have been free. The chicken Parmesan was also pretty nasty. The chicken texture itself was not like the chicken one would expect, but rather like a pencil erasers, for those who know what that is. The actual chicken itself, was black, because it was overcooked, which may be the reason for the texture of the chicken. The other disappointment was the pasta that was accompanying it. It was a very generic rigatoni in tomato sauce. The shocking fact of the pasta was that half the bowl was actually filled with water. So they either did not properly drain the pasta or their tomato sauce is more water than anything else. My beer was cold. I left there extremely disappointed and could never in good faith. Recommend this restaurant to anyone. The shocking part is that there were only two people in the restaurant, NO excuse for not serving awesome food!! read more

Nice Italian in the north end. Cute little place! Food was tasty. We had three different pasta dishes. The tortellini was amazing. The bolognese was tasty although the pasta was not tagliatelle as printed on the menu and the sauce was anything but traditional but it was good. Also had the eggplant and the sausage apps. The sausage and beans were delicious! Staff was ok, seems like you might get forgotten if you're seated downstairs as staff was complaining about having to go up and down all shift. This was overall a good experience. Our server was excellent, and she had an infectious laugh. She was attentive and balanced our table because it was a bit wobbly. However, this is a pet peeve of mine. Balancing tables in the dining room should be done before opening for the day and when a table is moved. My party shared everything. We enjoyed the meatballs, eggplant, a cheese pizza, and bolognese. Everything was great except the pasta. I knew when I saw bolognese with fettuccine noodles it would not meet my expectations. Visited on a Saturday night with a party of six. Over all the experience and food was OK. Not bad, but not quite good enough for four stars. The calamari and shrimp appetizers were both good The meatballs had great flavor, but they were tough. I had the tagliatelle carbonara which was a little bit on the bland side. Service was mixed. It took some time to get menus and waters to our table. But our waitress was really good and helpful in ordering. This quaint and inviting place was a definite culinary find for the two of us within Little Italy area of Boston. The service and hospitality was beyond our expectations, We enjoyed some Pinot Grigio wine and started off with Bruschetta, then ordered Tagliatelle Carbonara and Tagliatelle Bolognese. Then were surprised with a delicious fresh crisp Italian salad with the perfect amount of Italian dressing. All of our dishes were freshly made and to die for. Among the worst the north end has to offer Two couples ordered pizzas and shared chicken and eggplant parm. Crust was soft and flavorless. The chicken and broccoli pizza was smeared in a nasty cream sauce with 3 specks of broccoli and not much more chicken. Awful. The Neapolitan pizza was absolutely less than ordinary. The eggplant was basically fried breadcrumbs. No evidence of eggplant. The chicken was burnt but better than the eggplant. There are at least 100 better choices in the north end, let alone Boston. Very solid Italian spot in North End! This place was packed on a Friday night and I would recommend getting a reservation if you're trying to visit at a peak time. Service was quick and the food was delicious. We got the Caesar salad, rigatoni della casa, and the Bolognese. Everything we tried was very tasty. The star of the show however was definitely the rigatoni- the Italian meatballs were fresh and the creamy tomato sauce was super flavorful. This was a really unfortunate experience. From the reviews, I was so excited to have my first North End Italian experience ever and better yet, it was on Valentine's Day. I made the reservation the day before and I thought I'd be stuck with the late night times but found this place and all times seemed available which I thought was weird (since it was Valentine's Day) but it's in the North End and for someone who has never eaten in the north end, I've only heard amazing things about the food in the area. The food is definitely on the inexpensive side compared to other restaurants which is nice to see. Unfortunately, the food is not even worth the inexpensive prices... I was so disappointed that our chicken parm was burnt and I could not get the taste of charcoal out of my mouth. We also got the carbonara and that was fine but I almost couldn't tell if the pasta was actually fresh, the pasta that came with the chicken parm was definitely store bought. If it was fresh then I'd be very surprised. The carbonara is creamy creamy and tasted disappointing. I think if you're looking for something last minute this place is fine but honestly just grab a slice of pizza. If you sit by the door during the winter, wear a jacket and mittens. My partner and I try to make every moment special but we won't try to do that at this place again. It's unfortunate because it seems as though for it being in the north end it would try to find a way to be able to compete with the surrounding restaurants. Very small spot. Sat at the bar and had some small talk with the bartenders who were friendly. For an appetizer we got the arancini which was the best part. For dinner we got the Tagliatelle Amatriciana which was pretty good. The carbonara wasn't what I'd call a traditional carbonara, it was very creamy and less yolky, and the pancetta wasn't very crispy. It wasn't bad, but I'd say it was more like Alfredo. read more

The restaurant itself is small, quint, and intimate. I loved the seat but the window looking onto the street. The staff are very attentive and take care of you. However, when it came to the food, the sauces were very watery with little flavor. Because it was so watery, the flavors were muted and bland. I got the sausage and rabe pasta, and the rawness of the rabe cut through the dish as the dominant flavor which left a less than desired taste in the mouth. While flying in that afternoon, I noticed on open table that the reservation had been canceled so i immediately made another reservation which open table allowed and confirmed. The restaurant is very small with one of the smaller menus in the area. However, what they do make was pretty wonderful. Very good portion sizes and good tasting pasta. It's a filling meal and the sauces are pretty good. I wish the wine selection by the glass was better, but I'm happy to see them flexing the Tignanello by the bottle. We were originally a bit surprised that the restaurant was mostly empty at 6:00 pm on a Saturday, but we relied on the great reviews and were seated right away. The restaurant was cozy, the tables were relatively close together, but we didn't feel like there were people right on top of us. By the time we finished eating, the restaurant was definitely filling up, so I think we were just on the earlier side of the evening. For food, we started with a Caesar salad, which was very good! The dressing was very flavorful, but not overwhelming. A great, light way to start the meal! For entrees, we ordered and split the Fusilli Sausage Rabe and also the Rigatoni Della Casa - both were delicious! The fusilli had an amazing texture - they apparently make it by hand - and the sauce was very delicate (sort of more like a broth). It was a teeny bit spicy, as advertised, which added a nice dimension to the dish. The only comment is that I think the roasted garlic could have been a stronger element. The rigatoni was my preferred dish out of the two - good serving of sausage in the dish (and small, actually bite-sized pieces), creamy sauce, and the peas added a nice bright texture and taste. Delicious! Service was wonderful, very quick, very friendly and helpful with the menu. They offer different sides daily. However their caprese $10 was not as well valued with four small slices of tomatoes sandwiching half moons of mozzarella topping the bed of arugula. PS - I am generally pleased with the service here (one previous visit may have been an aberration, I hope). Turns out I had been running the kitchen staff ragged with my unintentional (App placed) orders for side dishes that they had not been prepared to offer. They generally only offer two sides per evening, which changes each night, and instead of telling me "sorry but we don't have that" when I arrive for pick up, they've been whipping them up for me. We were really disappointed with this meal at Trenonte because the 4.5 stars gave us great expectations. When we arrived on time for our reservation, the man at the door barely said a word. Ten minutes later when I checked in about being seated (there were empty tables), he rudely said "I got you already." When we were seated, we noticed there was only one server so we ordered everything at once. We were really disappointed by our bolognese. They put cream in it, which is not normal. Also, it was supposed to be tagliatelle according to the menu and it was actually linguine (or something thinner). Overall, very underwhelming. Nice restaurant on a slightly quieter street in the North End. We had reservations but were there a little ahead of time and thankfully that wasn't bothersome. We ordered merlot to go with Melanga and Meatballs and that was delicious. The bread wasn't warm but it was soft and really good. For our main course we ordered frutti di mari, pork chops, chicken parm and lobster ravioli. Food was delicious and filling and we landed up packing some of the food for home. i spent a couple days in boston and spent a lot of time trying food around the boston and salem area. And honestly, the best food i had was at this place. I was on the hunt for the best lobster rolls, the best chowder, the best cannolis, but the last meal i had before running to the airport was at TreMonte, i had my Tagliatelle Della Casa made to-go. I added shrimp and they didn't hold back! This was the best pasta i've ever had in my life and i'm very very picky with italian. so many places miss the dot and this place certainly blew me away. Awesome restaurant! The food was surprisingly affordable for the North End and the portions were huge. They start you off with warm bread and olive oil which was delicious. We got an order of calamari and bruschetta for the table and we were very impressed with both! Our bruschetta came out after we had finished the calamari, but it was definitely worth the wait. For my main course I ordered the sauteed chicken with a side of penne with pink sauce and it was incredible! Each dish that isn't pasta comes with a side of your choice. All pasta sides come with red sauce but if you ask for pink it's only a $2 up charge and it is most definitely worth it! We were much to full to order dessert but what we saw coming out of the kitchen looked homemade and delicious. The only reason I am giving four stars is because there was one server for the whole restaurant, while there weren't many people there for a Friday night service was still much slower than anticipated. read more
