The only good part about this bar was Enzo. All of the bartenders were so rude and treated us as if we were drunk children. It's quite ironic as my friends recommend that I checked out this bar, but the vibes were bad the ENTIRE time. They also asked that we left once the clock hit 2am, by grabbing our glasses from our table and motioning us outside of the bar despite still having drinks in our cups. Ahh yes, this places embodies the Boston atmosphere to me. My boyfriend has been past this tavern for months now and has always talked about going. We finally made the trip and it was really nice. This tiny basement tavern right near the Harvard Bridge offers a cozy atmosphere and an intimate setting. We came on a Monday night so it wasn't crowded at all and made it nice. We sat at a high top towards the back and ordered at the bar. My $5.50 millers high life beer (yasss) and buffalo chicken dip were nice on a cold night. My boyfriend got a chicken pesto sandwich and tomato soup which he really liked, paired with a guinness. We also split meatballs--yummm. Food was all warm and fulfilling!! Prices were reasonable and vibes were solid. Would come back. He did say in the summer this place looked packed so probably the time of year you come makes a difference. read more

What a great spot! I came here with my Dad and two young children. Everyone was so nice and accommodating to all of us. The food was also very yummy- we had meatballs, a soft pretzel, pork tacos, tots and clam chowder. Everything was very tasty with the pork taco being my fave. Arriving in Boston last month for my 50th reunion at Boston University, I checked in to the Commonwealth Hotel only to find that Room Service was done for the night. Not to worry, there is always a pub open in Beantown! A 15 minute walk brought me to the Corner Tavern just after midnight; and it was still packed. Unlike many pubs where the kitchen closes early, the Corner Tavern had a full menu available! I was able to enjoy a great sandwich while discussing the Sox chances to make the playoffs (I was there the next night when they clinched!) with the patrons! It is so funny because for most of undergrad before I was 21 I would walk by and think how fun the vibes seemed inside. I've lived in Back Bay for several years and always enjoyed my regular trips to Corner Tavern. Whether it's for Friday night drinks, or a Sunday brunch, I could always count on Corner Tavern to have fantastic food, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff. However, I stopped by last week after a few months away and noticed some concerning changes that have had a detrimental impact to what used to be my favorite bar in Boston. It seems as though the restaurant has either had a management or chef change. The portions are abysmal, and the offerings just aren't as exciting as they used to be. I paid $18 for a turkey and brie sandwich that was just the size of my palm and didn't even really have brie, more of a brie-flavored aioli. Staples of the joint have disappeared and what remains is half portions at the same price point (I'm looking SPECIFICALLY at the pesto pasta salad, just a pathetic 1/4 cup portion). I understand a small-business needs to be competitive and make a profit, but the changes have turned the place from a great-deal to a big rip-off. As usual, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I really only see myself returning to touch base with servers and bartenders I've gotten to know. It's sad to see another community hotspot taken away. Wish them the best, but don't hold out much hope. read more

Solid bar if you want some good food. Beers are a bit pricier than other taverns I have been to in the city, ranging from $8-10. The place got packed after 10 pm when we came here on a Saturday night, mostly people trickling in after the Red Sox game. And the noise levels were off the charts around 11:30pm - felt like we were in a mosh pit with little wiggle room so had to leave at that point. Honestly some of the BEST/ freshest bar food I've had in a long time. We ordered the club sandwich and a pretzel to share. We got TWO.. lemme repeat that... TWO large pretzels which was an absolute treat. The honey mustard sauce was LIT (can also get cheese dipping sauce too but my poor lactose intolerant self didn't want to be farting all night so opted out). The club sandwich was packed with those NuTriEnTs - I'm talking fresh lettuce, onions, tomatoes, and chicken grilled to perfection *chefs kiss* & it was MASSIVE, and incredibly fresh ingredients. The food itself was very simple but you could tell they put some love into their food! And I still dream about the salad dressing that they put on the salad. Also don't judge us for ordering salad at a bar :) So sad that their beers, esp IPA's are so overpriced otherwise I'd be coming here all the time. What a find!! This gem, the Corner Tavern, is right off of Commonwealth Ave on the way to Fenway. It is much more chic on the inside with exposed brick and rough stone. The lighting is perfect and there are beautiful outdoor seats with fairy light-lit trees. It would make HGTV so happy!! The draught beer choices are nice, but the food IS GOURMET! My husband had the Chipotle Meatloaf Burger and I had the most gourmet Meatball Sub on the planet! He had rosemary potatoes on the side, and I had the street corn salad. That Meatball sub was on a sourdough ciabatta-kinda hoagie. Deeeeelish! Our server, Devin (I think), was so sweet and kind, super fast. His movements were so graceful and he never stopped smiling. I really wanted to like this place, but it is a 3-star review for now. The bartenders here are very nice and friendly. It is a neighborhood bar, as many people come here after the Red Sox game. I actually tried a variety of things here: 1. cider $7 (nothing special, just beer) 2. nachos $10 (no... see below) 3. margherita pizza (decent!) 4. deviled eggs (not bad) 5. Aviation cocktail $12 (i should have picked something else) My main problem is the nachos that I ordered. I guess I should have read the description more carefully. However, when I order nachos from a local/neighborhood bar, I expect sour cream and black beans, lots of them. The one that I got from here had these ingredients: queso, black bean & corn salsa (barely any), lettuce (too much lettuce), tomato (not enough), cilantro, chimichurri, and crema (not sour cream?). I am not sure what kind of sour cream they used, but it was not to my liking or what you expect from nachos...? I picked through my nachos plate and only ate half of it. And for the people who know me, they know this is almost like never happens. I rarely eat lettuce, and I finished all the lettuce in my bowl because it is more edible than the crema in my bowl. Came here on a Friday night. I like the vibes of this underground Bostonian bar. I suggest calling ahead of time and getting on the waitlist as this place can get busy. I called around 8pm and it was a 30-40 min wait. Don't remember seeing an extra available table for the 90 mins we were there. Service was very nice and attentive. We got a couple beers, the meatloaf burger with the pesto pasta salad, and Memphis bbq wings. Beer selection for draft/cans/bottles were solid. Seems like cocktails would be great as well. Meatloaf burger was surprisingly good. I don't typically like meatloaf, but the sauces made the burger very tasty. The wings had a couple different flavors to choose from. We opted for the Memphis bbq dry-rub because we don't see that on menus often. They were decent, but personally a little too salty for me. Certainly, this is more of a bar than a restaurant. Don't be misled. We did get some wings. They were good. And one person in our party got a bowl of tomato soup, which she said was good. Otherwise it was just drinks. Here's what I'll say: If you're going to Boston for a Red Sox game, this place is close to Fenway, but far enough away (10 minute walk) that not many fans know about it. Plain and simple, I'm a fan. I've now visited corner tavern several times and never have I left unsatisfied. Normally when someone speaks of the back bay neighborhood, imaginary dollar signs float across your eyes. For us common folk, nothing beats a lunch special. As far as lunch specials go, no one beats Corner Tavern. With options more affordable than a fast food joint at and ten times the quality, this is an unmatched value. A couple things I love: 1. It's never really that populated during the daytime hours 2. Did I mention the specials? 3. A basement restaurant yet still a nice view of back bay in the background. Not that I needed the view, you had me at basement.... 4. Great food quality in general. Many options to choose from: sandwiches to pastas to flatbreads, soups, salads to make a few.
