It's a tiny dive-like joint with a small kitchen but they serve up super interesting stuff. I got the arctic char for dinner: cooked nicely on top of what was described as "corn risotto" which was just rice and corn kernels with some cream mixed it. Delux Cafe was an amazing experience. I came here on a Saturday evening around 8:30 for a romantic dinner. The greeter was affable and pretty consistently informed everyone that the restaurant is cash only. No surprises! Our server came around several times during the meal to refill our water and make sure we didn't need anything else to enhance our experience. And as for the food, I had the tomatoes with homemade ricotta for an appetizer. It was perfectly seasoned and prepared with some deliciously toasted nuts. The star of the night, though, was the grilled cheese. The jam inside perfectly complemented the savory notes of the cheese, and I was left wanting a second serving. Kitschy hipster dive bar vibes - very popular spot in the downtown area that transported me back to Portland OR. Cash-only and very limited seating, only a few tables can seat more than 2. The door guy was friendly and the bartenders were quick. The space is very tight and if you're standing near the bar you're pretty much always in the way of the servers, but there's not much you can do about other than move when they need to pass. For drinks I started out with a Lamplighter IPA and then moved to some cocktails. I had the Nick and Nora, which was gin-based and citrus forward. It was refreshing, but small. I liked the La Bamba better, which was tequila-based and had a bit of spice from the ginger and black pepper and was balanced from the slight sweetness of the carrot. About 1.5 hours later they were able to seat our group of 4 for food. Chips and salsa are okay - the chips are lightly toasted tortillas cut into triangles and the salsa is a bit fruity. Most of us got the burger and one person got the half chicken. Burger was very thick and extremely mustard forward, which overpowered the shallots and other toppings. It was okay but I didn't finish it. I think they change out the condiments regularly cuz my friend said it was different last time. I really liked the thick fries with the crisped cheese and house made ketchup that came with the burger, but there weren't many of them. My friend loved the half chicken and the broccoli rabe. Great find. Headed to nearby Calderwood to see Sing Street and stopped in on a Friday night. It's cash only and we got last two tables at 6:15 before the people started queuing up outside. I met a pretentious couple a few months ago and they were talking up and down about the bars and places they'd been. One thing about those kinds is that they love to tell you what they know. So when I needed to know about bars open past midnight, they told me about Delux. Open til 2am. Cash only. Say less! I found myself in the area one night in need of a nightcap and walked past the Revolution Hotel to slide into this corner bar. It was close to last call, but the doorman/bouncer let me in. Not having cash on hand, I hit the ATM. The service charge was super-low, which is appreciated. The bar had lovely holiday vibes and decorations and everyone in the area was super cozy. Staff was cleaning and slowing down, but hooked me up with some great selections of blue collar beers to go with my shot of whiskey. Any spot with Schlitz in the can is good with me! I don't remember any music, but I do believe there was an old-school TV on that had......something on it. Good dive bar/basement vibes. This experience happened a few months ago but has caused us to not ever go back since. Came here with some friends from out of town and the service was pretty bad from start to finish. My husband and I got there early to make sure we could secure a table for the four of us as they don't take reservations. We weren't able to be seated unless the whole party was with us. That's understandable, we went to the bar. Our whole party arrived, and they asked if we'd be having dinner. We said we would be ordering some appetizers and drinks. They were hesitant to seat us because we weren't going to be ordering a whole meal, although they had just opened and there were no other tables seated (it was not peak dinner time). We awkwardly stood there for a few minutes, and then they eventually decided to seat us. We ordered our drinks and about 10-15 minutes in, we were asked to move tables because another larger group came in and our table was preferable to them. We were moved to a table in the back of the bar. Having worked in the restaurant industry, I think it's pretty unheard of and unprofessional to move a table that has already been seated so that a different table can sit there. We shook it off. We ordered three smaller plates to split among the four of us. We were constantly getting pressured to order entrees, and when we said we would be sticking with apps and drinks (as we said), the server dropped the check and rushed us out. We felt like an inconvenience to our server the entire time and stayed for probably 45 mins tops. We were planning to stay for several rounds of drinks and perhaps more food but the service was so rude that we left. read more

We LOVE Delux. We loved it back in the day, when it was our after band practice hang - and we love it just as much now. The staff are wonderful, positive, and kind - it's forever our fav hang for both food and drinks. We like their wine and beer selection.. The menu changes somewhat often, but all items are really good. (If there's nothing new that grabs me, I always go for a spinach, tomato and cheese quesadilla.) You have to be OK with waiting for a table for drinks AND food. You have to be OK with putting your name on the ever amazing Andy's waiting list for a table when busy, and OK with paying cash. There's an ATM in the back though, our bank gives us back our fees, so it's no biggy for us. It's small, but a super great hang, and I look forward to celebrating my birthday there. read more

The server was negative and gossipy about their clientele right by our table. The negative comments about "how weird their night was" and that "the customers weren't locals" made me feel uncomfortable. We are two bartenders from LA that tray local business's like family even though we aren't from the area usually. The cringy hospitality was unsettling and sad.
