Delicious spot for bagels. They have a good variety of bagel and spread options. Tried the sesame with scallion cream cheese and the everything with jalapeño cream cheese. I preferred the sesame bagel overall. However both had a nice crunch on the outside and were soft with a good amount of chew in the inside. They were pretty busy on a Saturday morning but we were able to sit inside and the food came out quick. Worth a try!
First visit was a weekend morning that saw a brisk business. Fun space with motorcycle decor, vintage record albums, funky chairs and couches, and a groovy atmosphere that would serve a courtship well. -- Everything Bagel with avocado, hard boiled egg, and onion: My wife liked it, though noting that it's not on the same level as her favorites. -- Rosemary Sea Salt Bagel with veggie spread: My item, and not bad, but not as much oomph flavorwise (both bagel and topping ) as a Goldilox or Brick Street RSS bagel. Texturewise, an airier, less-dense bagel, closer to Bagelsaurus consistency than Rosenfeld's or Rebelle consistency. -- Coffee: Very good. Was hoping to buy more bagels to take home for further exploration, but on weekends they have a limit of 1. Even though it doesn't make my greater Boston top 5, Black Sheep has its charm and is destined for a return visit. To be continued and I'm hoping to bump up the score.

My favorite place to get my bagel fix! Black Sheep Bagel Cafe is a cozy bagel shop in Harvard Square. Easily accessible to the T. They have free wifi so if you come during slower hours, it's a convenient spot for studying. Despite the usual long lines, the staff are always friendly & efficient. I highly recommend their Classic Lox! They always load up their fresh bagels with generous amounts of add-ins. Definitely getting your moneys worth. If you're feeling experimental, their menu has a ton of other tasty options. Their Pesto Turkey is also a delicious choice. Cannot recommend them enough.

We came down here for a quick breakfast during the week. We must have come here later than usual because they were almost out of bagels. They only had one plain left and two onion and cheese bagels. We decided to order those and a side of cream cheese. They have several local healthy items in this store. I was surprised by the different options they had. It was a very tiny store so there was not much space to walk around or eat your food inside. The crowd was going by quickly which was convenient. We brought it back home which was nearby and enjoyed the meal. The onion cheese bagels were decent for Boston. They did not come off too strong and had just the right amount of cream cheese. This is a place I would come back to later for a quick breakfast.
I mean, can you ever go wrong with bagels? And there's no point trying to reduce the portion size by cutting it in half, I always end up eating the whole thing in one sitting. This hotspot boasts delicious fresh baked bagels with generous cream cheese, lox, tomato - the works! It's got a very hipster vibe with all the wooden interior and quirky pictures. Like a place you wouldn't feel bad to ride your bike to and park on the side while you have a coffee and read the paper. Student heavy which makes sense. Fast service!

Had another wonderful visit to Black Sheep Bagel cafe! We arrived around noon on a Saturday and the line got to the door, but it moved really quickly and we were given our order pretty quickly after as well. I tried the avocado toast this time, which is an open-faced bagel sandwich with a large amount of diced avocado on top. I love the fresh ingredients and toasted bagels here. This is definitely my favorige bagel sandwich shop in Boston!
Long lines on weekends, limited seating. The bagels are decent, soft & fluffy. The everything bagel had good seasoning, but the rosemary sea salt was all rosemary no sea salt. We got the bagels 'as-is' as the shop does not have dairy-free cream cheese options. The person at the register was nice & explained on weekends they can only accommodate one as-is bagel per person which is fine. However, another person (?manager) interjected and stated it was a limit of one as-is bagel per party, not per person, which seems a little absurd. We ended up ordering and paying separately to accommodate the one as-is bagel per party rule. When we picked up the bagels however the manager was again rather hostile and stated it was one per party even if the party split up. There's no signage in the store about the rule and their website actually specifies the rule is one as-is bagel per person NOT per party on weekends, so the manager was wrong. It's fine to have arbitrary rules but if you're going to enforce them, there should be appropriate signage up and it should be correct on the website. Overall, bagels are decent and while the cashier was friendly, the manager was off-putting and enforcing an incorrect rule so would not recommend this place. Also limited vegan/dairy free options.
Love the aesthetic inside. Serves delicious bagels with a wide variety of spreads. Coffee was also good. Excited to try more of their small bites. There's lots of seating inside; this place is ideal for getting some work done.
Incredible vibes! If you're in the Harvard area and looking for a down to earth, chill vibe for a quick breakfast, I would definitely recommend this spot! The service is fast and helpful. There is a wide variety of bagels and some unique combos on the menu. I was a little disappointed, however, that they don't offer a traditional breakfast bagel, though it would be easy to customize one. As for the bagel itself, I think it could have done with a little less toasting, but the texture otherwise melded beautifully with the right proportion of ingredients. The fig jam was fabulous! And the jalapeño cream cheese had a subtle spice and wonderful creamy texture!
Best bagel place in the city for me! It is very alive on weekend mornings and might be a little hard to get a table. There is normally a line to order but don't worry the line moves pretty quickly. It doesn't take too to get your orders as well. They have a good selection of freshly made bagels, cream cheese and non- cream cheese spreads. Their garlic and onion bagels, and poppy seeds bagels are my personal favorites. Their sandwich items: the lox and their favorite do not disappoint as well. Their strawberry cream cheese is a little too subtle though. Always my go-to place when I'm craving for baaaagels. -9.2/10

Black sheep is exactly what I was looking for for breakfast in Harvard Square, breakfast sandwiches!! The space is pretty tight and it was really busy when I showed up but absolutely cleared out as I sat down to eat. I ordered a cold brew, which was a bit watery, but I like it super dark so it's probably just my taste preference. They put the milk/cream in for you and you pick the coffee up in a separate spot from the food. They call your name for both pickups. For food I got the devilled egg open face bagel that has bacon on top on a whole wheat everything bagel. Eating it was intense. I couldn't put it down once I picked up each side and had to be very careful not to spill the egg mixture off the top. It took a while to eat but was amazingly delicious and exactly what I wanted. I would eat it everyday if I could. If it came with micro greens on top, it would be even better. The mixture had red onions which gave it a punch and crunchy texture. I considered adding salt to the mixture on top but I'm glad I didn't because the bagel itself had sea salt so each bite was salty enough. When I ordered I asked if I could also get 2 bagels to bring home and I was told the limit is 1 on weekends and 2 during the week. The manager (I assume) stepped in and said I could have 2 so I chose the rosemary sea salt, which the only have on weekends. I made breakfast sandwiches on them the next day and it was heavenly. This is a spot to check out! read more

Favorite: I arrived a bit late, and the Everything Bagel was sold out, so I chose a similar Whole Wheat Everything Bagel, but it was extremely, extremely, extremely salty. Black sheep bagel cafe is one of the best bagels in Boston! I'm so glad I finally got to try it. The spot is really cute, decked out with eclectic decorations like a motorcycle, books, fun plants, etc. The bagels were really good. The lox classic on an everything bagel was delicious and fluffy. It was well worth the visit and some of the best bagels I've had in a while. They had run out of most flavors usually by mid day so just beware! While I was there they came out with more freshly made everything bagels which was awesome. read more
Yummy yummy bagels! Always love coming to this cool bagel shop whenever I am around Harvard Square. If it's around breakfast time expect there to be a line but don't worry it moves quickly. But come early because they do run out of bagels. I have tried several different kinds of there bagels but I always go back to their everything bagel. They have a few specialty bagel sandwiches but you can customize your own and you have a list of different spreads and toppings to choose from. They also offer coffee and I've tried both iced and warm and depending on the weather they always hit the spot. They have plenty of seating inside and a bench out front. I really like all the plants that decorate the place and the interesting books and Vinyl covers. My favorite spread that they have is their jalapeno cream cheese! I love spicy so this one's perfect for me. The jalapenos are always fresh and huge and they are not stingy with the amount they smear on your bagel. It's always a treat to stop by for bagels! read more

4.5/5 . Food: 4/5 - I got "the favorite" (boiled egg, avocado, tomato, chipotle aioli) on a whole wheat everything bagel and it was delicious! The bagel can get a bit messy & fall apart when you're eating bc of the way it's stuffed, so you want to plan for that. Service: 5/5 - The folks here are friendly & quick! My food was out in about 5-7mins -- and that was when it was busy! Loved that they don't take forever, especially with how crowded with how tight this establishment can get when it's busy. Ambiance: 5/5 - you definitely go here for the vibe! Excellent place to meet up with a friend or two on the weekend. This is most definitely a place I'd return; I think it's a fantastic, casual spot to bring an out of town friend/family for a quick bite before a day of adventure. But be warned -- the line often leaks out of the doorway. The earlier you head to Black Sheep, the better. read more

Super fun cafe vibes with cozy couches, ambient lighting, and good music. However, it's extremely hard to find a seat on a weekend morning, and the line usually ends up being pretty long. I got the turkey mozzetta on an asiago bagel and added avocado. It ended up being around $15 with tax and tip, so pretty expensive for a bagel sandwich. It was a great combo, and I love their pesto and how fresh it is. I'm not the biggest fan of the style of this bagel, it ended up being a bit soft for my liking. However, I think the texture worked as a whole with the other sandwich additions. read more

Such a cute cafe with lots of bagel options! I got the lox 2.0 and it was made fairly quickly. The texture was really good - crispy and toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. They have a bunch of different bagels outside of the standard plain/everything/sesame selection. read more

My partner and I got the lox classic (on garlic & onion bagel), lox 2.0 (on whole wheat everything bagel), and a hot cafe con leche - TASTE: 5/5 - the lox classic is aptly named w its satisfying combo of salty lox and sharp onion, my favorite. Also loved the 2.0, again suitably named for taking the lox sandwich to the next level w scallion cream cheese and fresh dill. Would come back to try more bagels! TEXTURE: 4/5 - the bagels themselves were soft on the inside w chewy crusts. Other highlights were the thick cream cheese, juicy tomatoes, and microgreens PRICE: 4/5 - cheaper sandwiches than the other bagel spot we frequent! Total came to $32 SERVING SIZE: 4/5 - filled us up for lunch SERVICE: 4/5 - we walked in at 12:30pm on a Tuesday (place was packed!) and were nervous if they'd be sold out already but, thankfully, a couple of bagel types were still left. Our order was ready in 5min surprisingly ATMOSPHERE: 4/5 - cozy cafe space w plenty of plants and a cute patio. I also got the café con leche which TBH was wayyyy too milky. The lox cream cheese was nice, and I heard that the Bacon Egg and Fig was delish. I can confidently say this is the best bagel spot in Boston! Even better than many NYC bagels I've had. They have a variety of preselected options (my favorite is the bacon, egg, and fig, $10) or you can build your own bagel. Most recently I got an Asiago bagel with fig spread and cream cheese ($6 ish), which was heavenly! Their drinks are great too - would recommend their chai latte. The shop is often quite busy so there might be a line to order, but it's well worth it. The inside has some small seating areas. read more
Yum Yum Yum! Better than a New York bagel in my opinion, especially for the price point and portion size. I had a classic bagel with cream cheese and was very pleased with how much salmon and cream cheese was stuffed into my everything bagel. This was just a quick stop for us as we were visiting the area and looking for a quick bite, but we could tell that this was a popular location. We grabbed coffee too, and our toasted bagels came out quickly. Really beautiful interior decor as well. read more

Amazing experience here! It's so cute and almost "hidden away" but this small bagel shop is a must-stop. The bagel was so yummy and the perfect texture, it had the perfect amount of everything on it--the Lox to cream cheese ratio was 10/10. The service was quick and the staff friendly. The prices are high, but you do get a pretty hefty bagel. read more

Are the gluten free bagels safe for people with celiacs?
They told me they'll process the gluten-free bagels in an entirely separate kitchen area with strict cross-contamination protocols if you tell them that you're Celiac.
Do you make your gluten free bagels in-house?
Yes they are. The number of flavors depends on the time of day/week, though (up to 3, but sometimes only plain is available).
Is the Black Sheep Bagel Cafe related to the Black Sheep Deli in Amherst?
No, we are not related to anyone! We are a mom & pop shop and live right here in the neighborhood.
Are there changing tables?
Hi Sam! We do not currently have a changing table, although we are looking into some foldable options to have upon request.
