I got a hot latte with oat milk and a vegan chocolate banana muffin. The muffin is good, you can really taste the banana! I should have asked for it warmed but that's on me. Coffee was okay, too sweet for me. I ordered lavender latte for the first time. The service was also okay because they forgot or gave my order to someone else. I had to wait for over 30 mins and asked for where my order was. They probably will never find out if I didn't ask for it. In terms of customer service, they gifted me a ten dollar gift card to apologize for their mistake. The one down side of this place is the cleanness. I saw they used the same towel to clean the table and also the food plate, which makes my appetite go away immediately. I won't recommend this place if you care a lot about hygiene. I have to come to this place whenever I come to Cambridge to get my hands on their amazing baked goods. During the holiday season, I always have the chocolate peppermint cupcake. It's stellar - everything else I have tried in the bakery is delicious as well. I also really like the sandwiches. We had two unique ones yesterday - chicken tikka masala, which was on a delicious naan-like bread and sweet potato with blue cheese. The sandwich selections are flavorful. They also have all kinds of coffees and festive drinks around the holidays. Yesterday, the whole store was singing happy birthday to one of the guests and it seems they bought her a free cookie. Stopped in Flour with my boyfriend to grab drink after biking. The cafe was nice but fairly loud so we didn't stay inside long. We got a cucumber cooler and a strawberry drink. The strawberry drink was really good but the cucumber was kind of strange. I would go back for drinks again but probably won't be getting the cucumber cooler. read more

The Flour location in Cambridge is a cozy and welcoming spot. The staff gives good recommendations for first timers. I wanted to pick up some pastries for Sunday brunch and we had many options. Great Little bakery, and Café area right off from the Harvard University campus. We got here around noonish so it definitely was very busy and the door never stopped opening and closing. They have a nice selection of coffee to homemade sparkling sodas and a variety of breakfast and lunch options. My husband got a coffee and a croissant and the croissant was probably one of the worst he's ever had. It was just incredibly chewy I got the gluten-free coconut banana bread and it was absolutely amazing! They have a great selection of gluten-free options which I really appreciated. Heard about Flour Bakery and their sticky buns so I had to try it out while I was in Boston! I'm not a huge cake person so I was worried it would be cake-y or flour-y for me. To my surprise, the bun itself turned out really fluffy and chewy. It had a great ratio of nut toppings and caramel sauce to bun itself. They were pretty generous with the amount of pecans. Sweet as expected but perf for the holidays! The drip coffee was fine; got the job done but nothing special. Staff were polite and service was quick. This bakery is amazing!! Literally a better version of Tatte, all of the bakery treats are so unique and look so yummy. The raspberry meringue cloud was so much larger than I thought and was super yummy. The cupcake was not super sweet, which is perfect for people who normally don't like the artificial sugariness of standard cupcakes. I also got a cauliflower melt sandwich which blew my mind away as I normally always prefer meat in my sandwiches. My vegetarian friend was the one who introduced this spot to me as they have a pretty decent vegetarian selection. Even if you eat meat, you should still check out their veggie dishes, trust me! Having lived here since Flour opened in 2000, I'm not sure why I've never really gone there til recently! :( (prob bc it's tucked away in a corner I don't often pass by) But ever since the start of this year, I've been obsessed with this bakery chain and their James Beard Award winning owner/chef Joanne Chang. Reading through all her cookbooks, watching YT videos on her journey in becoming a bakery owner, etc etc. I've come to really admire the woman and what she's built. I initially had their quiche w/side salad, and was blown away by how delicious, light, buttery, flaky, tasty it was. and the simple side salad was so refreshing. Then I tried other items like their chopped Greek salad, chicken/beef sandwich, Salmon Salad, muffins, brioche, shortbread cookies, krispy rice treats.. All heavenly & rich in flavor. All the butter goodness from the pastries are *chef's kiss*! And one of my fav items in the shop is actually their white focaccia bread that they use in their salads and sandwiches. dangerous.. One thing I wish they would do is share the nutrition & caloric content of each item on their menu: so we have an idea of what we are taking in each time we visit. They do share what allergens may be in each item online but the additional details would be helpful to many. All in all, I'm so amazed at the empire Joanne has built and can't wait to try ALL the items and all the cafes including the newly opened Boston Common stand for the softserves! The motto at Flour is to eat dessert first & spread joy to everyone that comes into the bakeries, and I think they've accomplished just that. :) read more

Staff was interesting to say the least. I've come to flour a bunch, and it's been great. The coffee and food was always good. But this time, my girlfriend's matcha tasted like it was made with water. So I ordered another with whole milk instead of oat milk. Nothing changed. My mocha was fine. The sandwiches were okay! But something was definitely off. The cashier and one of the staff were play fighting while taking my order, until eventually the cashier got mad and lashed out at the other person. It was uncomfortable to say the least and definitely unprofessional. Also, one of the staff said my girlfriend's nails are really pretty, which is a wonderful compliment, until he reached over and touched them? I stopped in on a Wednesday morning for a mid morning break and got my tried and true favorite French Toast. The small $4 portion is a large slice of toast split into 2 and served with maple syrup. I also got an iced vanilla latte. I'm not a fan of their espresso on its own, I find it acidic, but the vanilla helps smooth and balance it out. Service is efficient, they bring your food and drinks to you when dining in. This is a great location to sit and do some work. Some of the seats get a lot of sun and would probably get really hot in the summer. But there are plenty of other seats not in direct sun. read more

The perfect portion was 1/2 of the bun before it got too sugary. Almond macaroon: Nutty, chewy, and not overly sweet. Great texture from the sliced toasted almonds with the signature macaroon chew. Chunky Lola - Reminiscent of a caramel delight Girl Scout cookie, but elevated with the nuttiness and texture. A little more chocolate would have made it even more elevated. Spring Fling (drink): Way too sour. Even though we did not get ice due to chilly weather, it was intolerably sour and we had to throw it away. The cafe itself can get a bit crowded/busy, but a table/counter typically frees up! I've never gotten their coffee, but their hibiscus tea is mild and great for non-caffeine drinkers! I love Flour! This was my first experience at the Harvard Square location, but I still experienced a consistent Flour experience. I ordered the iced matcha latte with oat milk and their hummus sandwich, both of which were so good! Flour has so many drinks, food, and bakery items to choose from, all of which have been delicious. I love that they have vegan and gluten free bakery items, as well as food items. They offer gluten free bread for their sandwiches (not vegan though), as well as salads. I have been able to easily customize all my dishes I have had from Flour and not had any major problems feeling limited by the menu. As for drinks, I love Flour's lattes, especially their matcha. For non-dairy options, they have oat milk and almond milk. Both cost extra, but the almond milk is a bit pricer at an extra $1 since it is locally made. It is good, but the cost can really add up at an already pricey drink. Don't get me wrong, I love Flour, but also being honest about the prices... The service was great - friendly servers and baristas that actually make efforts to engage with customers and support a positive experience. This location did have a decent amount of indoor seating, but it can fill up quickly. I recommend getting your order to go and walking around Harvard Square to enjoy. It is such a fun area to explore and I am grateful that there is a Flour in the area! read more

I've been to nearly every Flour location in the Boston area, and this busy location maintains the quality and coziness of the Queen of sticky buns' lil' local empire. I usually try to come by during the mid morning lull or after the lunch rush to more easily find a seat. I mostly come for the drinks. The matcha latte is my current go-to as a decent regular matcha to hold me over until I can next visit Cafe Maiko in Fenway. I used to get the decaf rooibos and chai lattes here as well, but this location stopped carrying the rooibos latte (so sad!), and the chai latte is now too cinnamon-y for me. I think they've switched to Mem Tea's chai cascarilla tea base, which tastes sweeter and less spicy than the chai masala. I'll sometimes get a latte, which is pretty good, although I don't generally prefer the Fazenda beans they use (on the darker roasted side). Non dairy milks include oat and almond. Trying to navigate the food menu while gluten and dairy free is a bit tricky. They sometimes have GF bread, which has a minimal amount of dairy. You can easily make sandwiches into salads, though. The miso tofu noodle salad is vegan and GF, pretty tasty although it's prepackaged. Warning that the delicious egg soufflé in the breakfast sandwich is NOT dairy free (made that mistake once). Their GF baked goods (one rotating pastry and the brown butter Rice Krispie treat -- pls bring back the GF oreo!) are made with lots of butter. I can usually eat a bit of dairy in baked goods, but theirs are too unctuous for me to tolerate. But if you don't have dietary restrictions, have at it! There is a lot to enjoy. read more

I ordered a large hot oatmilk latte with sugar free vanilla to enjoy inside ($6.69). They delivered the coffee to my table once it was ready. I enjoyed it but the vanilla tasted a bit too artificial for my taste. I did receive a free mini chocolate cupcake because flour is celebrating its birthday. The cupcake was light and delicious! One of my favorite coffee shops in the Harvard Square area! Good coffee selection and delicious pastry selection when you arrive bright and early in the morning. I especially love the ham and cheese croissant and look forward to trying the sandwiches someday. They also offer self-ordering through a kiosk if you don't want to want in line. Came here for brunch today with a good friend of mine around 11:30, and it was PACKED. If you're getting takeout, highly recommend ordering ahead of time online, though i'm not too sure all the dishes are available online (like the pizzas). Staff is extremely friendly, and all clearly working very hard. I do wish they had sticky buns and croissants here like the other locations (maybe they ran out already for the day?) but we tried the hummus sandwich, chicken tikka naan wrap, and the miso tofu noodle salad--all were delish! The naan wrap has just enough cucumbers to give it a refreshing crunch, and the chicken was not dry at all. The noodle salad has lots of great, more unusual elements that all balance each other out with a great dressing. Flour is everything you've heard about on Food Network and is a consistently good bakery in the Boston area. Whenever I head into Boston this is one of my must go to spots because their sticky buns are that good. When I went this time I noticed that they had started doing lunch and breakfast foods which I didn't try but there were a lot of people ordering and it looked popular. For myself I went straight to the pastries and the two I tried today were the Sticky Bun and the Vanilla Doughnut. 1. The Sticky Bun is worth the hype, its served warm and its delicious. The caramel on the outside is not overcooked and it has a good texture that isnt chewy or too thin. The pecans on top were plentiful and while I think it could have been crunchier, I think that the softer pecans are inevitable when reheating the sticky bun. This is really one of the best stick buns in the Northeast and I have little to no reservations recommending it. 2. The Vanilla Donut was a suprisingly good pick as well. The Donut itself was massive, its square and looks a lot bigger when you hold it than when you see it behind the glass. The dough itself is a soft delicate brioche that is amazing. The vanilla cream is also light and not overly sweet and does not overpower the dough. I think that this was an excellent donut and exceeded my expectations. If you see these out on the counter and you want something lighter and more delicate than the sticky bun, this is right up your alley. The location here in Cambridge is medium sized with plenty of seating however if you come on the weekend it will likely be standing room only. I also got an Americano which was good but nothing special (but its an Americano, so what did you expect). read more
