The Smoot Standard is the most versatile spot in Cambridge, perhaps all of Boston, and it checks every box for any scenario. It's a cozy cafe/study space by day, and an effortlessly cool bar by night, where they bring in really good DJs from around the country/globe and sometimes have live music too. I've been to both corporate events and parties here and the guests are always impressed. The atmosphere is lush, industrial, colorful, and natural all at once. The menu is nostalgic and delicious. I have so many favorites but especially the garlic bread, fried olives, and the burger. They also have innovative cocktails and the bartenders are excellent. Yared leads an amazing team (thank you Olivia, Carlos, Maxine, and Maria!). Smoots is a love letter to Cambridge and the city is better for it.

Fast service and fresh food a short walk from central. I enjoyed the old Darwin's but for sitting and enjoying a meal the Smoot has really outdone themselves The space has a wide variety of seating options from couches to barstool to tables and a cozy loft space as well. We got a grain bowl and sandwich which including a tip was ~$33. Food was fast and a great portion size. I found the value great for the location with a lovely atmosphere.

4.5/5 stars! Walked in on a Sunday morning and this place was packed! Lots of seating though so we were quickly able to find a place to sit. We got the breakfast burrito and breakfast sandwich. Burrito (9/10): so flavorful!! the pickled jalapeños with the pulled pork was so delicious. Breakfast Sandwich (8.5/10): my boyfriend liked this one more than I did. It has a hash brown inside that was perfectly crispy! Docked 0.5 points for the service. Our coffee came out when we were almost done with our food even though it was sitting at the counter for a while. We tried going up to grab it but the woman at the counter didn't let us.

This is a cute coffee shop near MIT, which is why the name is a fun inside joke. (A Smoot is a measurement of length.) The Smoot breakfast sandwich is really, really good! It has a piece of hash browns, egg, cheese, protein (bacon!) on a buttery brioche bun. Oh yum! It's not very filling, so if you are hungry, you might need more. The overnight oats were good (served chilled) and the avocado toast with bird seed and an egg was well received. Coffee is by the cup (no refills). Service is counter-based and they will clean up afterwards. It was clean and pleasant. The pricing is high-definitely Cambridge (think airport-style). Good quality food, decent service, nothing extra. I'd return if I needed to hang out in the area again; unlikely to go just for a fun meal.

Haven't explored too much of menu living nearby now, but did het the chicken cutlet sandwich and was great quality and filling. Will be back again.

If you've heard of Smoot, you've most likely heard of their famous breakfast sandwich, and for good reason too!! This delicious dish is an absolute, picture perfect masterpiece that you can't miss if you're a breakfast fanatic like myself (or even if you're not, maybe this sandwich will change your mind)! The egg is cooked to gooey over easy perfection, providing a silky buttery center to the stack. Next, the accompanying arugula adds a peppery crunch to contrast the umami cheese and the slightly sweet, pillowy bun. As good as all that sounds alone, the sandwich isn't done there, it's piled even higher with a crispy hash brown, your choice of meat (I recommend the tender chicken sausage), and- what really makes the sandwich unique- their creamy pepper mayo! Yes, all that sounds like a lot, but trust me, somehow it melds together perfectly, making a large yet not overwhelming breakfast that gets you energized to start your day!! If you're still somehow not convinced, their menu also offers a wide variety of dishes from pastries to sandwiches and salads for lunch or drinks for a quick refreshment. This, along with the fast casual service, makes this spot a great quick place to come with friends or to sit and work for a while. The dining room is bright and energizing with a variety of seating on two levels, and honestly it's just a super calming place to be. I will certainly be returning often to have a longer stay and try a few more of their food options!!

The smoot standard was a perfect place to grab a coffee and a bite to eat in the morning. It's a really cute cafe with a good amount of seating and great food. The breakfast sandwich was delicious- one of the better cafe breakfast sandwiches I've had in the Boston area. The coffee was also great! The service was speedy and friendly- they even accidentally made two of my coffees so I ended up with an extra! I'll definitely be back here!

A great cafe to work on mass ave! It's MIT themed and serves great brunch/lunch options with sandwiches, open faced bagels, coffee, and more. Tried the beef brisket & swiss melt which came out hot and great! They have free wifi and an upstairs/downstairs seating. Great place!

I really want to gatekeep this place because it's SOOOO good and the working space is unmatched, but I also think more people need to know about it and check it out. For the longest time, I thought this was like an MIT-only shop because I never saw that many people in here and because of the Smoot branding, but it's open to all!! This is an adorable coffee shop right on Mass Ave. in Central. I've gone during the weekdays to meet up with people or to work, and it's usually not too busy. The inside is really elegant--plenty of tables to work, outlets, and a few cozy chairs for chatting with friends. My most recent time, I got the prosciutto burrata sandwich. This sounds simple, but they add this pistachio pesto and spicy chili relish that take it to another level. SOOO incredibly delicious. Staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend for a lunch, a coffee, or to work :)

The buns were delicious! Sauce could have more flavor and I'm not a fan of the arugula but I loved it overall. The cafe was spacious and not too loud.

Loved this place! Lots of space and really nice vibe. Got the breakfast sandwich with the hash brown on a brioche bun and it was delicious. Slightly greasy but tasted great! Will be back to try their almond croissant

Had the veggie bagel and wow was it absolutely delicious. The sprouts were so fresh and all the veg mixed well together. I sometimes don't love bagels that have an immense amount of cream cheese but the proportions were perfect. We also ordered the green salad and the dressing was delicious! We went around 2pm on a Sunday and they were still serving breakfast. It was too full but it was lively. The space is really big!

We had such a hard time choosing and settled on the walnut baklava roll and the muska kataifi pisatchio. Everyone working there was so friendly and helpful and even with a line out the door, they were able to keep things moving smoothly. They also gave us small chai samples while we waited to be helped (the chai was spicy and not overly sweet). The baklava and kataifi were perfect -- no notes. Baklava had a great ratio of flaky pastry layers to walnuts. Each bite had the right about of crunch and nuttiness. The amount of syrup used was just right also. Kataifi struck a similarly great balance: a crunchy and sweet shredded wheat exterior rounded out by the richness of pistachios. I wish I could come here all the time and try everything. Definitely keeping this place bookmarked for any future trips to Boston.

This was nice, I personally could have done without the layer of chocolate on top since it's so hard to break evenly and it was thick in texture to the rest of the cake. The pistachio ricotta cake was phenomenal. I wasn't expecting it to be so light and airy, I had to hold myself back from inhaling the whole thing at once. Both were shared and I got a baklava for my personal treat. I'll be back again very soon!

G.O.A.T.: My first time trying it, I opted for the Classic English Muffin. The crust is pan-fried, not baked, giving it a slightly crispy texture without being hard, reminiscent of cornbread in a Northeastern Chinese tieguodun鐵鍋燉 (iron pot stew). The inside is soft, chewy, and perfectly moist, with a slightly sticky texture when combined with the sauce. A muffin unlike any I've ever had! The goat cheese butter flavor is rich, the pesto provides a mild nutty aroma, and the unique fragrance of arugula instantly evokes the slightly excessive sunshine of the Mediterranean. I was staying with my sister, who had never been here but had seen it featured on Phantom Gourmet. My TikTok research had also put this spot in the top two for breakfast sandwiches, and it was only the next town over, so we had to give it a try. We lucked out and found parking right in front, then headed inside. I was immediately intrigued by the Anadama English muffin because it reminded me of a brown bread I grew up with in Massachusetts. If you've had the brown bread at Cheesecake Factory, it's somewhat similar, but less sweet, less dark and more complex (an "adult" version if you will). They also had a rotating monthly special, a Portuguese English muffin, which was very tempting. In the end, we stuck to our original plan and ordered a breakfast sandwich on the Anadama muffin with egg, ham, and cheese. Whoa. This thing was rich, hearty, and absolutely delicious. It was one of those sandwiches that makes you stop talking for a minute and just appreciate what you're eating. Honestly, I almost wished I had a hangover because it would have been the ultimate cure. The Anadama muffin completely lived up to my expectations. If I lived nearby, I would absolutely buy a four pack once or twice a month and keep them in the freezer. A fantastic breakfast sandwich and well worth the trip. Sadly there are no bathrooms, which seems strange for a coffee shop, but luckily the general store next door is same owners and opened just as we were leaving and could not have been nicer about letting us use the facilities.

Located on Dunster Street, the shop is designed for efficiency, with a straightforward layout that keeps the line moving even during busy hours. There are a few counter seats inside, but it's primarily a grab-and-go destination where most people leave carrying one of the bakery's signature string-tied pastry boxes. The cannolis are the main reason to visit, and they certainly live up to their reputation in terms of size. The classic chocolate chip cannoli is generously filled from end to end with a rich, sweet ricotta cream, while the crisp shell provides just the right amount of crunch. If you're looking for something a little different, the Florentine cannoli is an excellent choice. Its honey-nut shell adds an extra layer of texture and a subtle caramelized flavor that pairs beautifully with the creamy filling. Beyond the cannolis, the bakery offers an impressive selection of Italian pastries, cookies, cakes, and other desserts. The lobster tails are another popular option, with flaky layers surrounding a rich cream filling, and the display cases are filled with enough variety to make it difficult to choose just one item. Prices are a bit higher than your average neighborhood bakery, but the portions are generous enough that many pastries can easily be shared. Service is quick and efficient, with staff focused on keeping the line moving throughout the day. Since seating is limited, it's worth taking your pastries to nearby Harvard Yard or the Charles River, where you can enjoy them at a more relaxed pace. Mike's Pastry may be best known for its North End flagship, but the Cambridge location delivers the same oversized cannolis and classic Italian desserts in a much more convenient setting. Whether you're craving the original chocolate chip cannoli or one of their many other pastries, it's an easy stop whenever you're spending time around Harvard Square.
