This was a great bakery shop that we tried. They had excellent baked goods and some really yummy breakfast and lunch items. Croissants, muffins, cakes, sandwiches, etc. We ordered online and the process was very smooth and easy. When I arrived, I looked for my bag on the "pick up" shelf and walked away with it. There are several of these around town...check them out...

Cinnamon bun and half a scone.

The bottom line: 4.5 stars for good coffee, quick service, and killer pastries (especially when warm). The cinnamon bun was soft, supple, and had just the right amount of cinnamon and glaze. Warmed, it was oh so tasty paired with the black house drip coffee. (Bit of a coffee snob and whatever beans they had were in point and well brewed.) The ham & cheese croissant had a delightful amount of crackle and sharp cheese flavor. The breakfast sandwich was good, with a pillowy brioche bun, but a bit too much dressing and the egg and other contents could use a flavor punch. Industrial chic atmosphere that seems to work and definitely would be back fire the chance.

Food: WOW. Best salad I have ever had. Everything was so fresh and flavorful! Service: Food was fast, despite being a busy Sunday afternoon. Ambiance: 2 floors of seating, it's nice and warm inside with natural lighting. So happy I stopped by while in the area.

Perfect location on Cambridge Street, busy In the morning. I waited in line for about 10 minutes, And the line moves slowly. Amazing selection of pastries And hot food. I got the breakfast cookie, which includes oats, nuts, fried fruits. Went for the healthy option, And frankly it was delicious! Highly recommend for a fiber-rich meal to start your morning. I also got a vanilla latte, And I could not taste the vanilla. It was okay. If you're looking for privacy, walk up the stairs and check out the extra seating, highly recommend Bar stools near the window, nice way to see the views And enjoy your breakfast with your friends.

    Chocolate cream pie

The chocolate cream pie is very rich but not at all too sweet. I would recommend for those who like desserts that have depth and a darker/richer flavor. A bit more pricey than other options, but the quality of the chocolate tastes good. Tasting the crust on its own reveals it has a pleasant, mild flavor. Some bites of the crust had a sort of nutty flavor almost. The cream on top was a good balance to the richer flavor of the chocolate, although the richness is still very strong (almost to the point of being overpowering, but not quite). Also not sure but maybe they use some coffee to deepen the chocolate flavor?

I stopped in here for breakfast and to work for an hour. They were very busy on a Thursday morning. Excellent chai and pastries, and I used the wifi to get some work done while sitting at the window, people-watching.

    Spinach quiche
    Juanna F.

Wow. The pastries and quiche were amazing! I cannot wait to come back and try more when I visit again. I tried the sticky bun, brown sugar cinnamon roll, and vegan chocolate chip cherry muffin. Every bite was delicious especially with sips of hot coffee in between. I also had the spinach cheese quiche, which took a bit long to make but it was worth it- so yummy! They are pretty busy inside and I can see why. There are a few seats downstairs and upstairs. I enjoyed the view of the outside while sitting upstairs.

There is a reason why there is always a line at Flour. I think this might've been the best egg sandwich I've ever had. These fine folks know how to make a sandwich whether it's for breakfast or lunch. Super fresh ingredients with just the right portions and seasonings. They do have an app so that you can order ahead - which I recommend. You can choose the line to place an order with an actual human being or there are digital kiosks for ordering. Seating is limited, but there is space upstairs with additional tables available.

There's a reason Flour Bakery is always busy & has a line every time... the food is just that good, when it is good. I remember the first time I tried Flour, a couple years now, at their Back Bay location and was impressed by their sandwiches. Nowadays, I will grab a bite from Flour every now and then but it is hit or miss. I usually get the smoked turkey sandwich, avocado toast, or achiote chicken sandwich. Depends on the day and how I'm feeling. I suggest if you plan to grab and go, definitely order through the app first to pick up. If you order in person, it could easily take 30ish minutes for take out (not dine in) order. Having gone to a couple Flour locations in the past, the wait is the worst part. All locations average the 30 min wait.

    Sticky bun
    Anna B.

Really good eats here! The broccoli cheddar soup was pretty salty but very flavorful and Hearty. The sticky bun was great- fluffy soft bread and plenty of pecans. Also very much enjoyed trying the half sizes of the mushroom melt sandwich, the Butternut Squash sandwich, and the achiote chicken sandwich. The raspberry oat bar was nice too, and the carrot cake was very moist and with a lot of cream cheese frosting that wasn't overly sweet. There are seating areas downstairs and upstairs which include bar seats and benches and regular chairs, as well as an elevator to the second floor. The staff were very professional and friendly and we saw them help visually impared customers with great courtesy. The only thing I would skip is the chai latte- it tasted pretty bland.

    Applewood-Smoked Bacon Sandwich ($13.75)
    David L.

Conveniently located near the entrance to Mass General Hospital, we stopped in for a late breakfast before an appointment. While the displayed sweet treats and breakfast pastries looked tempting, we opted for the savory Applewood-smoked bacon sandwich. Basically a spin on a BLT, with peppery arugula as a substitute for traditional lettuce. You order at the counter, take a number, and a staff member brings you your food once it's ready. We didn't wait long, and certainly enjoyed Flour's version of a classic BLT sandwich ($13.75).

We walked into a space that mixes communal tables, stadium-style seating, and smaller spots to sit, making it a place where you can stop in for a quick drink or stay longer with a laptop. The interior design is one of the biggest highlights, giving the cafe a more elevated experience compared to a typical coffee shop. The tiered seating in particular creates a visual dynamic that makes the room feel more intentional than your standard coffee counter. The drinks are the main focus here, especially the matcha, hojicha, and espresso-based options. We ordered the hojicha latte, which was one of the strongest items on the menu, with a deep roasted flavor and a smooth texture. The matcha has a more traditional earthy profile and leans less sweet, which works well if you prefer a more authentic matcha taste. The drinks are on the expensive side, but the quality of the ingredients and preparation make it feel more like a specialty cafe experience rather than a standard coffee stop. The food and dessert options add another reason to visit, with items like the egg sandwich, quiche, macarons, and hojicha desserts available depending on the day. The menu is smaller compared to a full brunch cafe, but it pairs well with the drinks and gives the visit more of a cafe-and-pastry feel. Service is friendly and the staff are knowledgeable about the drinks, which helps when choosing between the different Japanese tea options. The cafe can get busy, and seating is limited compared to the number of people who come through, but the layout gives it a unique character. Ogawa Coffee works well for specialty coffee and tea lovers looking for a more intentional cafe experience in Boston, especially if you enjoy Japanese-style drinks and a thoughtfully designed space.

We weren't sure how to enter, so we started in the bookstore and found their convenient elevator downstairs! The restaurant is tiny but cozy, which is the perfect atmosphere for a book store! We sat outside in the little courtyard and it's a mix of magical and relaxing! There were only a few tables, so it wasn't overcrowded and with nice weather, it was perfect. I had a salad with salmon on the side which was delicious - and the ginger lemonade - wonderful! From buttered noodles to seafood, everything was executed well. The staff didn't rush us even though they were busy - and they had to give really long wait times to a number of others, but we still weren't rushed. We walked into a building with the kind of architectural character that chain bookstores cannot manufacture, with small rooms opening into each other across multiple floors, wallpapered walls, and reading nooks distributed throughout that invite you to slow down rather than move through quickly. The book selection is well curated with staff recommendation cards on the shelves that actually reflect genuine enthusiasm rather than perfunctory notes. We saw limited edition hardcovers and local and regional titles appearing alongside the broader fiction and nonfiction selection. Browsing felt productive rather than overwhelming because the curation kept things focused. The kids section upstairs is one of the more delightful in Boston, with a train running along a track near the ceiling that tends to make a strong impression on younger visitors. There is also an art print vending machine on the second floor that draws its own audience of visitors looking for something small and specific to take home. The cafe occupies the lower level and operates as a separate experience from the bookshop above. We ordered the oat milk cappuccino with Vermont maple syrup, which was worth it. The morning glory scone and the popovers are two other items to consider. The cafe is tiny, around eight tables inside with a small patio, and reservations are recommended for breakfast and afternoon tea service. Pricing at the cafe is on the higher end, and certain fixed price service formats on specific dates push it considerably further, so checking current pricing before booking is worth doing. For a bookshop that doubles as a destination in its own right, Beacon Hill Books and Cafe delivers a cozy, curated experience that rewards lingering. It is the kind of place we would return to just to sit and read with a good coffee.
