Oakleaf Cakes is a cute & cozy bakery near Symphony Hall. Tried a small selection of their items and ended up thoroughly impressed! Cupcakes were moist, not too sweet and came in classic flavors such as Chocolate, Red Velvet, Vanilla, etc. Vegan Pop Tart was great too. It was flakier than a traditional pop tart and had a nice homemade strawberry jam filling. I bought two cookies for my boyfriend and considering how he devoured them both in one sitting (despite not being a sweets person), would definitely say they're quite good lol. Their galaxy brownie cookie was my favorite. Chocolate-y & chewy inside, crispy on the outside and generously coated in rainbow sprinkles. I noticed they also had beautifully decorated whole cakes for sale, so will definitely need to try one someday. Also the barista / cashier lady was very kind and helpful. Highly recommend this place!

Oaklead Cakes is a talented custom cake designer and bakery that specializes in creating beautiful, detailed cakes for all kinds of celebrations and events. We ordered a birthday cake from them, and it was perfectly made. The cake itself had multiple, well-defined layers and was impressively tall, providing a really great portion size for the price. The texture and flavor were spot-on, the cream filling and frosting weren't too heavy or overly sweet, so the whole cake still felt light and enjoyable to eat, even with all the rich chocolate inside. Based on this excellent experience, we'll definitely be considering them for their more elaborate custom-shaped cakes in the future for other special occasions. They clearly know their craft.

Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just like I like them. Seems to be more of a specialty cake store and it's not the coziest cafe ever, but I'd come back to try their other baked goods.

Our custom cake was fabulous! We submitted photos of what we wanted (childhood pets for a birthday cake) and the cake was beautiful with creativity, precision, artistry, and elegance - a true masterpiece. The whole communication process was easy and efficient during the ordering and pick up process. And the cake itself was absolutely delicious - we ordered chocolate. Highly recommended!!

A cute little cafe/bakery near Northeastern. I came in on a Saturday afternoon and they still had plenty of sweet treats to choose from. I decided to get the chocolate chip cookies and candied cashew toffee shortbread cookie along with a cold spiced apple cider. The store was pretty busy with customers coming in and out as well as the tables filled, but service was great. The spice apple cider is perfect for the this fall weather and the cookies are bigger than your standard cookie. I enjoyed both cookies and would love to go back and try out their cakes one day.

I went here for a cake decorating class and it did not disappoint! So much goes into the process of making and decorating a cake from scratch. The basics class includes: layered cake assembly, frosting cake, decorating practice, and decorating cake. This class does not include making your own buttercream or making your own cake layers, but there is a live demo on how to make the buttercream in a standing mixer. My favorite part of the class was getting to practice the different piping techniques on parchment paper. There was also a lesson on piping flowers but that didn't interest me as much. Overall this was fun and I would recommend as long as you are okay with standing on your feet for 3+ hours

Beautiful Crystal Themed Baby Shower Cake from Oakleaf Cakes / Boston

I sent Oakleaf Cakes a CHALLENGING inspiration picture for a Reiki Crystals themed baby shower cake in pastel shades hoping they could get close to our vision. I had no idea they would deliver above and beyond our expectations. The scattered crystals were elegant (and delicious), the colors were delicate & beautiful and the cake flavors (chocolate & carrot) were a hit with everyone. They crafted little cupcakes topped with mini-crystals to match - so well done! This is the second event I've coordinated with Oakleaf from 1500 miles away! Their passion for creative design, responsiveness and attention to detail make the entire experience enjoyable and stress-free. Thank you so much Oakleaf Cakes!

Vanilla Bean cake with strawberry buttercream frosting

Delicious Vanilla Bean cake but the star of the show was this Strawberry Buttercream frosting. I usually don't like buttercream but this place does it the right way!! Now can we take a minute to adore the decorations! They knocked this out of the park!

Really pleased with the cake I purchased from there! I got one of the ready-made gourmet chocolate cakes - not only was it so cute but it was so tasty! The buttercream was so light and smooth and the cake overall was not too sweet. I was genuinely impressed with the cake and can only imagine how good the customized cakes are. Their 5 inch cake was the perfect size for a small party and reasonably priced. The shop also smelled amazing when you walk in. I'll have to come back to check out the coffees and pastries too.

Oakleaf is the cutest little cafe to WFH! Their coffee is great, but be warned the quantity they give is huge. Baristas are always super friendly and helpful, and there's usually seating if it's not a busy day in the winter. I'd recommend bringing headphones since it can get a bit noisy but the windows and light floors make it a pleasant experience. Highly recommend ordering their chocolate chip cookie! read more

So glad I decided to stop by Oakleaf, this cafe had one of the best lattes I've tried! It's super fun and cute when you walk in with some seating. They have a ton of options for syrups and flavors to customize your drinks. I decided to go with pistachio which I highly recommend. I'll definitely need to stop by again and try one of their pastries and baked goods! read more

I went there yesterday with a work friend for coffee in the morning. There was ample seating, though we didn't stay. I got a hot chocolate with almond milk and a Nutella pop tart for later. The hot chocolate was absolutely delicious. Rich, creamy, with little bits of chocolate floating in it. It was almost decadent. I was thrilled with joy! The Nutella pop tart was delicious, even though I saved it till today! The crust is flakey and lighter than one might think and the Nutella was still fresh and gooey without being too much. The fellow who served was friendly without being overbearing. I will definitely be back! I can't speak for the coffee, but the hot chocolate and pastry hit the spot. read more

I got an expensive cake here Friday. It's old and dry! Very dry and I'm angry they had the nerve to sell it.They don't bother to answer the phone so I couldn't let them know about it. I also bought cupcakes as the cake itself was small , so I'd have enough for everyone. They were ok, overpriced as they tasted pretty basic. They must have left out that cake for days it's that stale and dry! So be wary of any cakes they sell in the bakery case. read more

My favorite cafe in Boston!! It's such a unique little gem. They make amazing cakes, and also run an adorable little cafe where you will find a different rotation of pastries each time you go. And they have great seasonal drinks. Only downside is that it's a bit small so not good for big groups, but definitely worth picking up stuff to go! read more

I ordered two cakes for a party - a fishing frogs cake and a tree stump, on a yellow cake and one chocolate. The artistry on the cakes was amazing. An option they provide is to have a pet created in buttercream and placed on the tree stump. The job they did recreating my grand dog, Ralph, was incredible. I met a friend here for a catch up over coffee, and it's a super cute little shop near Whole Foods with beautifully decorated cakes. I got a cherry almond shortbread cookie, which had good almond flavor. The color was pretty pink, but I could definitely see that as a selling point! Based on their displays and my friend's recommendation, I would definitely order a custom cake here if I needed something beautifully decorated. Service as very friendly. read more

This is a LONG overdue review! Oakleaf is unbelievable! I had my sons 1st birthday cake/ cupcakes made with these folks in 2021 and so glad I did! The apple cupcake was very fall appropriate, with a little fondant leaf on top. It tasted great too! I usually don't like icing but I finished the entire cupcake by myself, icing included. I also got an iced hazelnut latte. It was pretty good. I just wish it was slightly sweeter, but that's just because I have a major sweet tooth. There are a few tables, but they are very close to each other. I came here to study while enjoying a cupcake and latte but I couldn't handle the noise level of the conversations near me so I had to leave. Overall the pastries and drinks here are unique and worth the price in my opinion. Give it a try! read more

Oakleaf Cakes provided our baby shower with all the amazing custom items we wanted and needed for our first grandchild. a beautiful sculptured two tiered cake using the invitation to create the look, including an airplane on top. we had 50 custom cookies with two different themes individually wrapped with ribbons. the whole experience from first contact, follow through, pricing and white glove delivery was exceptional. can't wait to use them again. read more

I bought a cake for my daughter's birthday and considering what I paid for it, I thought it would be a great tasting cake. it was beautifully decorated and the way she wanted it but the cake itself was extremely dry and the icing had no flavor and was not sweet at all. They were wonderful to work with. I needed a specialty cake for a last birthday for someone on hospice care. When their medical team changed their timeline, Oakleaf, unbelievably, was able to still fulfill our order. I honestly didn't expect them to and would have been happy with something off the shelf. They made the day extra special for the guest of honor and that means the world to us. Ordering, payments, and all discussions were online, so that was incredibly convenient and they were very responsive. Couldn't have been better. read more

I feel terrible writing bad reviews but unfortunately I felt like it was necessary in this case. The cake I ordered was perfect looking and beautifully decorated, however it was EXTREMELY dry and flavorless. Nobody ate more than a few bites. Frosting also did not have any flavor and felt almost greasy. Unfortunately I would absolutely suggest taking your business elsewhere if you want a flavorful cake. read more

I only got a chocolate chip cookie and not a cake, but I thought their cakes on display were so pretty! They were so detailed, and I saw a book cake, and a bibimbap cake, which was super cool. I can't say enough good things about the team at Oakleaf Cakes Bake Shop...not only are they all amazing to work with, their work is incredible! I am a repeat customer for sculpted cakes and custom cookies (two baby showers, a birthday, and a graduation) and with each reveal of the final products I'm reminded why they are the best! My mom even saw this cake (for my 1 year old nephew) and said "wow, someone really loves their job!" ~ she's right, and it really shows. What's even better, their cakes and cookies taste just as good as they look (even better, if that's even possible)! read more

This review is specifically for the vegan/lactose intolerant/dairy free people searching these reviews for signs that Oakleaf might meet their dietary needs. (Note: I cannot say how well they might meet the needs of someone with an allergy) My husband is very severely lactose intolerant. He won't go into shock like with a dairy allergy, but pretty much any cross contamination will make him sick. We have made purchases from Oakleaf 4 times now and he has never had an issue. We tried a vegan poptart, vegan cheesecake (amazing), vegan cookie, vegan cupcakes and today I bought my husband a vegan cake. And, speaking as someone who freely eats dairy, I honestly could not tell the difference with any of that stuff. Not even a little bit. In regards to the cake, I bought a 5" gourmet cake for my husband's birthday. Their website makes it sound like you just get basic flavors and basic designs but they are way underselling themselves. The cake comes in three flavors, chocolate, vanilla, and red velvet, but they have sooooo many buttercream/frosting flavors. Additionally, there are a ton of designs to choose from and you can customize a bit. I chose a chocolate cake with Oreo frosting and some little silver beads on it. It ran me about $28 but was worth every penny!! The cake was so moist and every bit as delicious as a cake with dairy. My husband's favorite anime is Dragon Ball Z, so when it was almost his birthday, I decided that I was going to get him a Dragon Ball Z cake. I found multiple top rated bakeries in and near Boston. To my chagrin, all of the bakeries turned me down because making a Dragon Ball Z was not considered very Instagram-worthy. I kept on looking, however, and finally found Oakleaf Cakes. I contacted them with barely a line of notes because I assumed Oakleaf would just turn me down. To my surprise, with only 6-7 days until my husband's birthday, Oakleaf said it would make the cake! Because Oakleaf was not among the highest rated bakeries in Boston, I expected an intricate cake due to the high price, but did not expect a great tasting cake. I was wrong! As someone who generally does not enjoy cakes, I actually really loved the chocolate chocolate cake Oakleaf made for my husband! My husband also loved how the cake looked and cherished it so much that he could not bring himself to eat the dragon fondant sculpture until it went bad! We are so impressed! read more

Beautifully designed cake! Unfortunately, we wanted to eat the cake as well. We ordered one book layer to be red velvet with Oreo frosting/filling underneath the fondant. The cake was ok, but the frosting was bland. Not good at all. We tried the 2nd book (layer). We ordered that layer to be chocolate with Nutella filling/frosting. The cake was fine. Not dry or moist. Unfortunately, no Nutella! More of the Oreo frosting. We put the rest of the mostly uneaten cake in the common room of my daughter's dorm. A day later, there is still leftover cake. The fact that a dorm filled with students didn't devour this cake is very telling. If you want a beautiful cake for pictures, this is your place! If you want to eat delicious cake, please keep looking for another bakery. read more

Previously located in Winthrop, MA, Oakleaf cakes relocated to Boston in 2013 with an expanded cafe, classroom for their incredibly popular cake decorating classes, and large production area where they make all of the goodies they serve in store from scratch daily. Specializing in crazy custom cakes and wedding cakes, they have been featured on Food Network Challenge, TLC, CNN, and countless other publications.

Meet the Business Owner: Amanda O.

In September of 2008 Amanda had the crazy idea she could combine her passion for art with her love of sugar, and thus Oakleaf Cakes was born in the kitchen of her one room Boston apartment. That effort blossomed, and today Oakleaf Cakes has a gorgeous storefront (you should visit!) and an amazing staff of insanely dedicated artists, bakers and baristas. Amanda has been featured as a competitor on the Food Network Cake Challenge, and her work can be seen in many magazines and various other publications across the country. Having been formally trained as an oil painter at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, she approaches cake creation like any other art form -except, in this case it's also delicious. She now employees a tight-knit staff of pastry chefs, decorators, and baristas all of whom are artists in their own right contributing to Oakleaf Cakes' overall vision; to create food that tastes as good as it looks.

I didn't try the coffee myself, but my partner really enjoyed hers, which isn't surprising given Thinking Cup's reputation as one of Boston's standout coffee shops. The kids section upstairs is one of the more delightful in Boston, with a train running along a track near the ceiling that tends to make a strong impression on younger visitors. There is also an art print vending machine on the second floor that draws its own audience of visitors looking for something small and specific to take home. The cafe occupies the lower level and operates as a separate experience from the bookshop above. We ordered the oat milk cappuccino with Vermont maple syrup, which was worth it. The morning glory scone and the popovers are two other items to consider. The cafe is tiny, around eight tables inside with a small patio, and reservations are recommended for breakfast and afternoon tea service. Pricing at the cafe is on the higher end, and certain fixed price service formats on specific dates push it considerably further, so checking current pricing before booking is worth doing. The downsides: * The Connecticut-style roll barely had any butter and definitely needed more. * The lobster was slightly overcooked probably by a few minutes which made it a bit tougher than it should have been. * At around $40 per lobster roll, I expected better execution. The clam chowder was also disappointing. I kept wondering where the clams were because I barely tasted any. It was very thick and mostly tasted like corn. Even after adding salt and pepper, it didn't improve much. Overall, I expected more for the price. There were definitely some highlights, especially the bun with fresh lobster and the atmosphere, but the food didn't quite live up to the cost. That said, I'll give it another try because maybe this was just a fluke. I always like giving restaurants a second chance, and I'm hoping this experience was the exception rather than the norm.

Oakleaf Cakes created an absolutely STUNNING cake for my 40th birthday party this past weekend in Boston! I sent the design team a few inspiration pictures I had found, a general color scheme, and they literally brought my vision to life. Guests at my party had nothing but compliments about how it looked but once they tasted it...they were speechless! Oakleaf created everything on the cake by hand including the flowers, except for the "40" topper and the gold "happy birthday" charm. I ordered those separately from an Etsy vendor. My girlfriend ordered a birthday cake for me few days before my birthday. We were really exciting about it, but after we saw that actaul cake they made, It was totally different from our requirements. After that we came in talked one of the owner, and he was extremely rude and arrogant. He refused to make any changes, no refund, and no return. Frankly, owner's attitde and how they treated their customer completely ruined my day. For my Boyfriend's 29th, I envisioned a fanciful cake. I chose Harry Potter as the theme since he knows all the words and has watched the movies 100x over. Oakleaf Cakes worked with me to include pieces I saw in pictures and incorporated everything to a T. I couldn't have asked for a better surprise, and the carving of the cake made it look just like a book from the movie. The wand and the snitch are especially picturesque. I searched a lot for a good birthday cake. I live in London, UK and was celebrating a birthday in Boston. Did everything via phone / email, and Oakleaf was able to understand my needs and budget and the cake was beautiful! I 'd one of their Indian java blends - so fine and so great!! It is difficult to get a pleasant light combination java. I'dn't she come here only for the java they've other incorporations, dark roast and chocolate etc. I 'd the strawberry macaroons also. They were amazing particularly if your gluten free - there's something here for you. read more
