The frosting on the lemon cupcake was intensely lemony, and the chocolate frosting was rich and smooth. I and the other non-vegans at the party couldn't tell that they were vegan, and our host was delighted to know that there is a bakery nearby that caters to her needs. We decided to stick with our original 2:00 pickup time. 15 minutes before the scheduled pickup time, I received a call stating that they were an hour behind. I told the owner that this would be an issue, given that our boat left at 3:00. She offered to do free delivery, which we accepted. I provided the address and reiterated that we were leaving at 3:00, so we would need them before that time. She said she would call me when she arrived. 3:00 came and went, and our boat set sail, with no cupcakes. At 4:15, I received a phone call saying "I'm here with the cupcakes. I hope you guys aren't on the boat that's leaving!" We had left over an hour before... I explained that we were in the middle of the water, and reiterated that I told her numerous times we were leaving at 3, to which she said "she didn't understand that." Not quite sure how I could have been more clear about that, but I digress. She asked what we wanted to do and offered a refund, which we accepted. Disappointed is an understatement. When someone is turning 80 years old, you don't know how many birthdays they have left, and you want to make it special for them. This whole experience definitely put a damper on the day.

The cake itself is light and delicate, the cream is smooth and not too sweet, and the coconut sauce on top is like glutinous rice, with a sticky texture and a satisfying sweetness. Tiramisu: Although not Southeast Asian, it's equally excellent! The coffee infused the cake, and the cream was smooth and creamy. Personally, I think it would be even better if it were a little more bitter.

The one time we ordered the ube cake this didn't happen, and I think I recall it came with a stiff plastic sheet around it to help with structural integrity. For some reason this wasn't there for the pandan cakes, but maybe for the future it should always be there because these cakes are so soft and fluffy.

It was a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate ganache, topped with raspberries. First of all, it was beautiful! My mom ordered a heart shaped cake which was perfect for the holiday. The ganache was shiny and rich, the raspberries on top were perfectly fresh, and when we cut into it, I was blown away by all the layers (the more layers, the more frosting!). I didn't tell any of my friends at first that the cake was gluten-free, and all they had to say was how rich, chocolatey, and moist the layers were. They could not believe it when I told them! My favorite part, though, had to be the buttercream frosting. I consider myself a frosting expert, and this was by far the best I have ever had. I wish I could by cans of this stuff, in bulk. I learned this location has ice cream as well. I was shopping and walking along Boylston/ Newbury. Had dinner at a restaurant in the area and wanted to grab some chocolates from L.A. Burdick after. The map app had us walking along some shady alley that stunk of hot garbage and piss which made me wonder if it's even worth it. I get to the shop and swarms of World Cup fans also had the same idea to come here. They have a counter for chocolates, a counter for ice cream, and a dining area. I just had a big dinner with dessert so, my plan of getting ice cream had to be ixnayed. They have truffles, bon bons, drinking chocolate (in white, milk and dark), whole cakes, cake slices, cookies, linzer torte, fruit tart, and macarons/ Luxembourger. I got a box of chocolates. Some truffles and animal-shaped chocolates because I know those are their specialty and proudly handcraft. They're good - comparable to European chocolates. They put your selections in a box and wrap it up nicely and put it in a bag. So, it takes time. Be patient.
