Delectable Desires is an absolute gem of a local bakery! The baked goods are fantastic, but what truly makes this place special is the owner, Carlene. She is charming, delightful to talk to, and incredibly helpful and informative when it comes to planning special orders in advance. I have ordered a variety of pies from her - the bourbon pecan and strawberry rhubarb are my personal favorites. My family, who are very critical eaters, loves her pies so much that they ask me to pick up her pies for special occasions. Most recently, I tried the blueberry muffins, and they were perfection: soft and fluffy on the inside with a wonderful sugary crunch on the outside. It is such a joy to have a high-quality bakery like this in the neighborhood. I'm already looking forward to ordering a cake next, as she has so many enticing flavors available. It's wonderful to find a place where the talent in the kitchen is matched by the kindness behind the counter. We're lucky to have her in the neighborhood. read more

Best Apple pie I have ever tasted! The crust is perfect. Slightly sweetened, not bland and crusty-dry. Not soggy either. Plenty of apples but not so many that overwhelm the crust. read more

Carlene made us a beautiful and delicious cake that was exactly what we wanted. We went for our tasting and came home with 6 delicious cupcakes which was by far the best part of the entire wedding planning. Our 2-tier cake was very simple (vanilla buttercream with chocolate cake, no decorations) I have found the simpler the cake the harder it is to execute perfectly, and Carlene's work was perfect! Amazing! Delectable Desires Pastries is a fabulous bakery. I agree with a previous reviewer that the sticky buns are probably the best I've ever had. The cinnamon rolls and brownies are also exquisite. What I find most amazing about DDP, however, is their cakes! I'm totally blown away by them, and the designs are so incredibly detailed. I walked into Delectable Desires a week and a half before I needed my special occasion cake made by. I was not very hopeful because of Christmas falling right in the middle and the short time period. Thankfully I was told it could be done. After showing a few photo ideas and talking about flavors I settled on an 8 inch round cake with vanilla cake with a fresh strawberry filling. I was not disappointed in my order when I picked it up. The cake was beautiful, exactly what I pictured and delicious. I picked up the cake and at first glance it looked very good. Carlene told me that the cake can be left out since I was serving it that day. Once I got home on the 10 minute drive, I was able to examine the cake and was disappointed in how there were cracks in all the lettering and it also had melted. I emailed carlene right away to let her know how unacceptable this was and received no response. I was surprised because she always responded promptly. I also saw bubbles in fondant. Delectable Desires Pastries is a delicious addition to West Roxbury. The storefront is very simple, elegantly modern and clean. Nothing is hidden from the customers eye; with an open operation behind the counter one can see the whole process. Then the center of attention returns to the display case, which is view-able from the street, and the deliciousness it contains. I tried three of the pastries in the case: the sticky bun, the chocolate chip brioche and twice baked brioche. I was blown away about how uniquely flavorful each treat was; I'm talking melt in your mouth sugary goodness. For the amount of work and attention that was clearly put into each pastry in the case one would think the price would be higher, however it was very inexpensive. Overall Delectable Desires Pastries is a delightful bakery and is a must try for anyone in the area. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Just tried the blueberry muffin too. It was basically the best muffin I can remember eating. Normally I only eat the top, but I could not stop with this one. Seriously, you can't go wrong with anything in that case. read more

Came here at 8:30 looking for a famous sticky bun! I wanted to get there early so I could grab a nice, warm bun right out of the oven on a snowy Sunday. The spread was fine for a morning. The bakery is small, so it's not a huge case. They had sticky buns, muffins (I think they were blueberry), cinnamon buns, two types of scones, brownies, cookies and cake slices. I was going to get a cinnamon bun and a sticky bun, but the cinnamon bun looked a little cold. Sure enough, they told me it was baked yesterday. Oh well. Surely the sticky bun would be fresh! Nope, also from the day before. They told me it would taste fresh when it was reheated and I did walk to the bakery in the snow to buy one, so I got it and went to Roche for a muffin. I got home and tried to reheat it, but it ended up not heating evenly and probably wasn't as good as the reviews say. I don't like giving critical reviews much, but I have worked in a bakery before and I know that baking even a couple of products for those customers who come in early for fresh baked, warm breakfast items goes a long way. I'm not opposed to selling day-old products, especially since they admitted it and didn't try to claim otherwise, but when you tell me you've been at the bakery since 3 am, I'm going to wonder why there wasn't a second that you could have just thrown a couple of the sticky buns in the oven to reheat for the customers who come in early for a warm one, especially when they seem like your most popular product. The price also seemed a little steep for a day-old product that I had to reheat myself. Overall, the experience was fine. I will probably sleep in next snow day. read more

OMG! They SUCK and that is an understatement for a word. I paid for quality cake and got a printout or something that I didn't request. Something STar Market would have done 100 times better. Do they care? Of course not. They charge 300 for a cake and I cant use it. Also, they put flowers on it, real ones and I specifically asked HER to make THEM. Both I and the person the cake was for have allergies!!!!! Did she care when I spoke to her. NO!!! I specifically told them to make it as the picture shows with live art, with cream fake flowers and I got something that I am taking back tomorrow! Worst customer service I have ever had. I was warned about them but I didn't listen and look now. Special and big occasion without a CAKE!!! YES DO NOT go there. DO NOT believe THEM! They take your hard earned money and just laugh it off. This was a very special party and they shitted on it and I was left without a cake for her. I was ashamed and humiliated. Maybe why people like her sticky buns only it seems. A hidden gem in West Roxbury! This little pastry shop, tucked away on Centre street, just a few steps away from Holy Name circle just past Manthorne Road, has become a destination for locals in the know. The owner, Carlene, is talented and always seems ready to smile. The pastries are delicious. I have tried almost everything at this point and it is all outstanding. My favorites, though, are the orange cranberry scones and the cinamon chocolate chip scones. These are amazingly flaky and light. I always like treating house guests to some of the pastries, and the sticky buns are a huge hit. Of course, my niece and her college friends love the chocolate chunk cookies and M&M cookies. My personal all-time favorites are the awesome chocolate chunk brioches. If you are lucky enough to come on a day when Carlene made brioches, do not hesitate, grab one! Or two! In addition to the delectable pastries Carlene specializes in made to order specialty cakes. I have never ordered one yet, but have watched her working on them at her shop. These are truly unique works of art. Beautiful to watch her make them. I may just have to celebrate something soon to have an excuse to order one of them! read more
