Cheryl Ann's is, by far, the best Kosher bakery in Metropolitan Boston. No other Kosher bakery in the Boston area comes close to Cheryl Ann's. Cheryl Ann's continues to take great pride in their products, and it shows. Their challah, hamantaschen, and a large variety of other baked items remain high quality and exude superior taste and flavor. We brought a variety of baked, desert-like items to a friend in the hospital, who eats a Kosher diet, and he was thrilled. Funny story, a Registered Nurse at the Brigham saw the bakery items that we braught our friend, in non-descript, white bags, and she said, "Cheryl Ann's?" On the day of our visit, Cheryl Ann's was baking 1000, yes 1000, challah, in one day, for a large wholesale order, for the upcoming holiday's. read more

I've been coming to Cheryl Ann's for YEARS, and I'm so glad they opened up shop again. Absolutely amazing goods baked with so much love. Their challah is the best, and their cookies are always delicious. I've had a variety of different desserts from here such as gingerbread cookies, dot sugar cookies, frosted cookies, and moon cookies. I really like their chocolate chip cookies, those are my favorite. Super affordable and just all around delicious. They bake fresh every day. You got to stop by! read more

Stopped by for an errand and found this beautiful place. The people there were so helpful, patient, and passionate about the bread. When I went, the smell of fresh bread filled my nostrils and I was tempted to get their big loaf. I was able to set my eyes on their sweeter breads(bubkie? Forgot the name), but it was the cinnamon lightly sprinkled with sugar. Just wanted to give a shout out to this place because their service was amazing as well as their bread. read more

I remember going to this bakery when I was little and my father would get a few muffins and an onion board. I remember the ladies wrapping up the paper boxes with the blue and white string and their arm flaps going back-and-forth. Years later, I have gotten the onion board, of course, and challah . The last time I was there was before they close so this is going back maybe two years, everything delicious Service great, but I remember the Rugalah being overly expensive. Out of all the bakeries and the Newton Brookline area, I found Cheryl-Anne's to have the best challah! Now that they're open again, I wish them nothing but long, long success ! read more

This is a sweet little local bakery with a true family business vibe. The interior is fresh and organized. The service is always orderly and quick - and sometimes they give samples! The baked items are generally good. Challah is pretty reliable, though I've had some from here that was undercooked. The lemon cake was a delicious treat I brought to a kosher friend's birthday. The danishes are decent as well. I haven't had anything that absolutely blew me away - this isn't like a fancy French pastry shop, so adjust your expectations if you're expecting croissants and petit fours. But it's truly homemade, which is pretty special! read more

What a great little place. Went with a friend this summer and I had never been to a Jewish bakery before. The smell of the place was mouth-watering and the challah is some of if not best I've had. The food was delicious and the people at the counter were patient. BOTTOM LINE... definitely worth a stop read more

So wonderful that Cheryl Ann's back! Beautiful renovation, excellent provisions, and so happy to see the wonderful staff. Sort of emotional being in there...lots of memories :) Very nice. read more

Just bought their hamantaschen in a number of flavors. All were delicious. My guests raved about them. I buy their chalet from time-to-time, which is always great, a crowd pleaser around the holidays. They closed for almost I believe 2 years after a fire. Unfortunately, I understand they lost their long-time bakers, or some of them. Now the quality of some of their baked goods is erratic, for example my family's long-time Cheryl-Ann favorite frozen dough. Sometimes seems to have little taste, or a month or two ago was very sticky on the bottom. I don't buy dark rye from here anymore, as don't like their new recipe. Doesn't taste like fresh Jewish-style bakery dark rye. Service is always very friendly and patient. read more

I am trying to reach someone without success. My husband bought a challah last Friday. It was stale and undercooked in the middle. Perhaps the owner would like to reach out: Karen 310-850-4940 read more

Used to think Cheryl Ann's made the best rugelach anywhere, but a recent visit left us disappointed. Rather than being flaky and crispy, they were undercooked, flat and a bit greasy. The challah too was disappointing- it was underbaked, dry, had no chew and just fell apart. I do hope that this is just growing pains after being closed for so long. We'll be back and , hopefully, the old quality will have returned. read more

Just went in today. Bought some cupcakes and cookies. The staff were very nice, the cookies were delicious but the cupcakes were TERRIBLE! TERRIBLE! Not sure who made these but it could not have been a trained baker! They were too dense, not cake-like at all. (Were they old?) And they were piled with this solid mound of thick, dense frosting. All wrong. Not good. Bought them to celebrate a coworker's birthday and felt completely embarrassed by them. $3.50 a piece? Nearly $30 for the cupcakes alone. Quite disappointing. read more

Good news!!! They open now!!! I found out this week they were going to open back again this Friday March 15. I went Saturday and it was good to see it open with fresh goods again! Service was excellent! The place has been restored and looking good! Atmosphere was excellent! read more

Back open!!! So happy for their business to be reopened. Best bakery around for kosher.

Great challah bread! Got a half loaf and it was fresh and the perfect size. Love that they're nut-free, so we don't have to worry. Good service too! read more

Best bakery I have been to in Boston. The location is empty & cleaned out though so I think they are permanently closed now :-(

So happy to hear they have reopened! Everyone needs to get in their cars and head out to this wonderful bakery! Please stay open so everyone who has not been there can taste your great pastry! read more

Cheryl Ann's is my favorite bakery in the Boston area, hands down. Challah is sweet and soft, and the cookies are phenomenal. They're always friendly too. Can't wait until they reopen! read more

Whole in Boston we stopped here for Babka and cookies to take back to Cleveland. Worth every calorie and fantastic! I make homemade babka and CA's is so good that I would say it may even be better. Try both the cinnamon and chocolate. You will not be disappointed. Wish they shipped ! read more

I bought a rasberry danish today and it was Horribly salty!! I spent $4 for something that was just not edible and it went into the trash. I forgot the last time I bought a apple danish it went into the trash also, TOO SALTY! Danish should not be salty. So, disappointing! The owner should taste the end result. read more

I wished I lived closer and could visit more often. Then again, I'd be much bigger if I did. We bought a challah for home and a couple of chocolate chip cookies for the ride back home. The cookies were still warm and oh so delicious. The challah was one of the best we have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. It was fresh, moist and extremely delicious. We finished it and kicked ourselves for only buying one. What were we thinking? There was a bit of a line, in a not so large store, but no worries, as I was still out in minutes. Staff was very friendly. It is cash only, not sure if there was a sign on the door or not, but I'm thankful I had cash with me for a change or I would have been very disappointed. Somehow I managed to forget to order some rugalah. I am already trying to figure out when I can head out to work a bit early and make a side trip for some more fantastically yummy baked goods. read more

The cakes are gritty and gross but, read on for the good stuff: This place has so many tasty bread items that i needed a huge bag to carry out all of my treasures! The challah is amazing (and they have minis for 1.99$!), i sampled some while driving b/c i had to....yum!! fyi 1: cash or check only, no credit...(sad but true) fyi 2: park near or close to the right of the entrance if when you leave you are heading onto newton st. if not, u may have to backtrack around the rotary as you cannot make a left out of the other exit... read more

I've been going to Cheryl Ann's for eons. I remember taking my daughter there when she was a toddler and now, 21 years later, she still goes with me. We both absolutely love their half moons, bubke and challah. I have never had a bad experience here. I will be a customer as long as they're open...which I hope is for a long, long time! read more

This is the best challah ever; the little rolls are dangerous while driving as you can just eat and eat and eat..... The half moon cookies (known as black & whites elsewhere) are good, but getting a little pricey. Ask for them in a BOX otherwise the frosting will get all over the bag... and that's the best part! read more

Ahh Cheryl Ann's. What an institution when it comes to challah. I worked at a synagogue for 2.5 years and we had deliveries every Friday from Cheryl Ann's. So, of course, I would call up a day or 2 before Rosh Hashannah and ask for them to throw 1 or 2 extra in the bag (I paid, of course) and voila! Delivered to my desk. My parents LOVED that I brought home these delectable challahs for the holidays. Once I stopped working there, I had to remember to actually call ahead and order the challah. Then I had to find time to get there and... oh man. That line. Out the door, down to the corner. Once you get in, you better know what you want or what you called in for cause they are QUICK! I did add some last-minute rugelach to my order last year, but be quick. People are patient, but to a point. It's worth it though! They do sell the challahs in some supermarkets, but it's just not the same as fresh from the source. read more

Purchased poppy hamantaschen, raspberry, blueberry, apple raisin, and apricot rugelach, a small half moon, and a challah. I was worried about the challah not being fresh but she took one off the cooking rack for me and bagged it up. The rugelach, half moon, and challah were all shockingly fresh! Delightful! Challah was a bit too eggy and not enough sweetness for my liking but it was still good. Freshness and taste are all I care about and this no-frills bakery delivers on both! read more

Bubkie is amazing ...challah is the best ...choc chip cookies, marble sponge cake , rugulah ...so good so good

TLDR: Wow, this was bad! I tried the raspberry and cinnamon rugelach and a challah. Both typed of rugelach were aggressively salty and my family couldn't finish them. The Challah looked great and had the right texture, but it had a really off-putting rancid flavor, as if they used ingredients that went bad. I felt a bit sick to my stomach after eating it. They had the front door propped open with the temperature outside in the 30s and no apparent oven heat to compensate, so even the shopping experience was disappointing. read more

What I had was just average. Cheese danish lacked flavor and wasn't moist. And the challah is too dense and not soft/fluffy enough. Dairy free maybe that's why...? read more

Perhaps the greatest black and whites of all time are hidden in this treasured Brookline shop. I haven't found any other place that makes them quite like Cheryl Ann's and trust me, I've been looking for a long, long time. Delicious moist cookie topped with a very generous amount of sweet cake frosting. Mon dieu, I would be in a perpetual state of depression should I ever become diabetic. Shoot me. Believe the hype about their Challah. It's heavenly and everything a moist, eggy challah is supposed to be. Their babka is pretty damn good too. And so are their cookies. And their breads. And so on. My only complaint is that their chocolate brownie has a funny aftertaste to it. I'm not sure why, but I'm not a big fan of it. Skip it and go right for their black and whites. Trust me. Your sugar levels will be happy you did. read more

5 stars for the challah. I'd say I ain't no challah back girl, but it's a lie. As far as best challah in town, I still prefer Diamond Bakery and Wilson's Farms, but Cheryl Ann's is still really good. Very sweet, eggy, and dense if that's your thang. I personally prefer a lighter challah. read more

Very nice people behind the counter, and the foods are great. Their challah is definitely cake-like, and it isn't going to be to everyone's taste. I like it, and I think it's great in french toast, but again, tastes will vary when it comes to Cheryl Ann's challah. They have some great cookies, gingerbread men, etc., and personally, I've always enjoyed their cakes, cupcakes, etc., so, I disagree with Adina Z. They are indeed parev, making this a great bakery for anyone with lactose intolerant family members, friends, or guests. read more

Best challah in Boston, AMEN TO THAT. If you can drive out to West Roxbury and buy it there, it's much, much cheaper. Like, $4 compared to $7. But even at the jacked up price, it's worth it. Because it's that good. Also, they make a mean babka and good rugelah. Oh, how I love, love, love Cheryl Ann's. AND---I recently got a vegan (kosher) birthday cake from them that was OUT OF THIS WORLD. read more

Best challah in Boston. I bought a dozen ruggulah's (sp) this morning for a client meeting and there was not one left. Their russian bread, which is dark rye with raisins, is heavenly. This place makes me a serious carbo-junkie. I am, however, not a big fan of their cake or cookies. The frosting is heavy and almost greasy. read more

Holla for the Challah! Moist, delicious, cakey... you can't say enough good stuff about this Heavenly Hebrew treat. Try it, you'll love it! read more

I went into the Southend this weekend and shot over to brookline for some of Cheryl Ann's Challah. It truly is the best that I have ever had. chewy, buttery, cakey, etc etc do not do it justice. Go get a loaf (I prefer the braided) and try it for yourself, then decide. It is exactly how Challah should taste, to a goy anyway ;) I bought a cinnamon raisin Babka as well. studded with golden raisins it was good but not as good as the old Tula's(not sure if thats the name?) in Newton, that was the best babka ever imo. read more

Ultimate yum! The staff are so nice and give helpful, well appreciated suggestions. I have not met a Cheryl Ann's item I haven't liked. It's a cheerful and inviting space. My favorite items would have to be the apricot rugelach, the poppy seed shortbread cookies, or the luscious marble cake. My only complaint would be that the space is a little cramped- hence the crates perpetually stacked against the wall, but it's really nitpicking at this point. There's no doubt: Cheryl Ann's staff and bakers know what they're doing. Great goods, nice employees, convenient location, it's great. I would recommend this place 101% of the time to any newcomer, and surely to you. PS: I've never tried any, but the house made cakes look scrumptious and are most definitely beautiful. It's on my bucket list. This place is awesome. read more

Great bakery!!!! Try out their Mile High Moonpies sometime...definitely a treat to go back to! Great rye bread, too! read more

I ate 7 of their iced cookies in 7 minutes and then fell down and shook for more than 20 minutes on the sidewalk outside. But the cookies were so good. The black and white cookies are excellent and based on the size of the people going into this place, I'm not alone in this assessment. Only complaint is the shop is so small and stuffed with baked goods you can't bend down to look at the cookies without putting your ass in someone's Challah bread. read more

I can't believe no one has reviewed this place! Challah is amazing. The best I have had, ever, hands down. Pretty much everything is delicious, however; I have certainly never been disappointed. I have brought some of their cookies into work and my coworkers were eternally grateful. When my sister-in-law's dad passed untimely we were comforted by a large box of assorted treasures which were appreciated by all - the elderly mourners and an eight-year-old survivor, included. I was unexpectedly delighted by their treats at a local baby shower as well. My point being, clearly their goodies are appealing to a very wide demographic, and I am not alone in being a devoted and faithful customer in this community. To top it off, service is always fast and friendly. I have been here at least 50 times, so, talk about consistency. Don't even wonder - check it out, ASAP! read more

My husband got my birthday cake here a few days ago. From viewing the menu myself, it is a Black Forest Cake. My husband came home telling me it was a raspberry cake since the employee told him "rapberry" was inside. He said her English was not strong and maybe she was Filipina?... Well, it ended up being filled with cherry pie filling and had shriveled up maraschino cherries on top. They really looked like prunes and had no juice at all. There was really no flavor in the cake at all; I couldn't even tell it was chocolate from the taste. The cake itself and whipped cream were dry/crusty. This cake was clearly not fresh -- maybe even older than a day. We were very disappointed and will never be returning. This is a dishonest bakery with a front desk employee who is not qualified to explain the pastries. We totally did not expect this, especially given the location. I think we would have been better off getting a cake from Wegman's. This is what we get for trying out a new place. I would not recommend this bakery to anybody. read more
