Tried Sugar for the first time recently. It's a cute neighborhood bakery on Centre St in West Roxbury. When you walk in, everything looks delicious and freshly made. The staff were very friendly and helpful, offering us to try a bramble for our first visit. It was so good we bought several more to take home! The bramble was well made, a slightly chewy texture and high quality raspberry jam. We also got almond cookies which were packed with almond slices that were lightly toasted. I've been on a hunt for the best cupcakes in Boston, so today we came to Sugar Bakery. I had a red velvet cupcake, caramel cupcake, and snickerdoodle cookie. The venue has quite a few options, from pastries to cookies, lemon bars, and of course, cupcakes. The ordering process was simple and we decided to get a table to have the cupcakes there. The caramel cupcake was nice but nothing was especially outstanding about it. There was a good balance of frosting to cake. The red velvet (disclaimer: I am very particular about red velvet) was ok for New England, although it wasn't very forward on the red velvet flavor. I actually enjoyed the icing more, although it was so thick as to be a bit difficult to get my fork through without using both hands. As for the snickerdoodle, we ate that at home later and...it was a fine cookie, but it was essentially a sugar cookie. Snickerdoodle cookies have a noticeable, and usually visible, amount of cinnamon or cinnamon sugar that brings a punch of flavor. It was just lacking that entirely, and I didn't see or taste any cinnamon in the cookie. All things considered, I'll keep my search for top bakeries going. read more

I picked up some pastries for a party and was not disappointed! The bakery was very clean and smelled amazing. The service was also very fast and the staff helped me with any questions. My favorite baked items were the Italian sugar cookies and the mini cannolis. The donuts were also super good and felt very airy and light. This is by far my favorite bakery. The ordering process is a breeze whether on the phone or in person. I purchase a cake from sugar at least once a month. They offer cake decorating at a reasonable price and an array of flavors. This establishment also offers other treats! The cakes are always moist and fresh. The only downfall is the inch and of half of frosting in the middle while my children love. The staff are always friendly and efficient. We had a wonderful experience ordering my sons Baptism cake from Sugar Bakery! We also ordered an assortment of pastries that were a HUGE hit at the party! Both the cake and pastries got raving reviews. People especially raved about the frosting on the cake - it was super tasty and there was a lot of it both on the cake and in the layer in between. I'm only giving 4 stars not 5 because when I went to pick up the cake on a Saturday morning there was a long line for coffee ect so I walked over to the side where it seemed like one would go for pick up orders and the person behind the counter made me feel very stupid when she flatly looked at me and told me to get in line. We would order from here again in a heart beat, I just think it'd be helpful to have a sign for pick up orders, especially on the weekend where people are rushing to events! read more

We got a graduation cake from another well known bakery, who totally botched our cake. I was devastated. Was more hyped for the place prior to trying out their goods, but emerged with some reservations. The chocolate cupcake was nice but the sponge was a tad dense and the frosting was a bit sweet. The mini blueberry tart and mini fruit tart were decent but they were so pricey for one bite each! I love Sugar Bakery but as I stand in line here this Sunday morning I have to comment on the service - it is severely lacking. Two young ladies working - one obviously doesn't know how to work the register and the other is doing non-customer related busy work - this is while 7 people stand in a very slow moving line. I had my first experience with Sugar Baking Co today- I procrastinated planning my baby's first birthday and needed a cake. They had several premade options and placed a plaque on it with a message. We also purchased several cupcakes. While I was there, I had a cappuccino, which was delicious. I mentioned to an employee that we had never been there before, and she gave my son a sample of their signature cookie. We just finished our little birthday party. All of our friends commented on how delicious the cake was- my daughter ate two slices!!!!! The toddlers devoured the cupcakes. Everyone was happy. I previously would go to Party Favors in Brookline for my bakery needs- I'm a convert. I plan to go to Sugar moving forward. Their product is exceptional. The prices are reasonable. It was nice and creamy with just the right amount of banana flavor. I got the larger size which was $5.99, they also have a small/mini one for around $2. I would recommend the smaller one of one person or if you want to try more than one flavor! I also tried the "bramble" which is two pieces of pie crust with raspberry jam in between. We were wanting to find a "Boston cream pie" during our stay in Boston. The closest place that was still open was the Sugar bakery. They advertise a Boston cream cupcake which is what we got. I could not have asked for a better cake for my son's birthday. Assuming no one knows Color Crew (Baby's first tv) I offered up a picture for them to go off of and they came through 100%! They followed up a week before to confirm details etc. and were lovely. Personalized cakes aren't cheap but this was well worth the $65- I will absolutely be ordering from them again. Their cupcakes are moist and flavorful- and there's like, a dozen kinds to choose from on any one given day-, their brambles are lovely little bites (not mind-blowing as others have said, but tasty), their cookies are solid, and the service is quick and friendly. FYI the black-and-white is much more cake than cookie here, and has straight-up frosting instead of a glaze- still good, but not 'classic' in case that's your jam. Wow this place is amazing! My friend heard about this place on TV when it was featured a long time ago on TV. They have a large selection of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and pretty much everything you can think of. This is a fairly large bakery and they have 8 mini tables that you can sit at. This establishment is very clean, organized, and well decorated. It's a nice brick building with artwork of their pastries surrounding the counter. Next door, they are directly attached to a pizza and sandwich restaurant. What they're most well known for are there Brambles, which are essentially 2 pie shells filled with sugary raspberry goodness. We ended up getting the Brambles and one of their chocolate and almond Cannolis. The Brambles were good, but I not as amazing as I expected from all the hype. The cannolis were average, but I still like the ones from North End more. Moreover, I had to keep asking the employees what a lot of the pastries and cakes were as they didn't have labels or prices on them. The employees seemed annoyed that I was asking these type of questions. Overall, amazing bakery and the Brambles are worth checking out if you've never had them! read more

I got 2 Whoopie pies and 6 cupcakes. Overall they we're very good. The pumpkin Whoopie pie was the better of the two but both were very moist and soft and the creme filling wasn't too sweet. The chocolate one was good but flavor wasn't anything crazy. The cupcakes were all a hit. My favorite was the carrot cake which had nuts in it and a great texture and flavor. The Oreo one has a chocolate covered Oreo on top and had Oreo flavor throughout the whole cupcake. The other ones were moist and soft and packed with flavor as well.
