An organization I volunteer with held their social here recently and the staff was great, slinging ice cream for each of us based on our individual order. I built my own ice cream - Vanilla ice cream with maple miso mix-in topped with tahini granola. Wow. The crunchy granola with the sweet and salty ice cream was just refreshing. And as always, the ice cream at sweeties is smooth and creamy which is the best part. No brain freeze here, phew. Sweeties is the Sweetest ice cream shop! This little shop specializes in New Zealand style ice cream which combines premium ice cream and mix-ins and it get's blended into a delicious soft serve treat. How they operate is very similar to cold stone, but with soft serve ice cream. You pick an ice cream base, toppings, and it becomes your unique customized ice cream. They also have a curated list of concoctions to choose from. I had the pleasure of creating a vanilla ice cream base, with earl grey cream, and blackberries. My brother created a chocolate ice cream base with frozen bananas, and chocolate cookie crunchies. And my father picked the curated chocolate mousse cheesecake. The shop is quaint and cute. The staff is friendly and efficient. The shop doesn't offer much seating inside. There is plenty of street parking outside. We came here after a delicious dinner around the corner at Sophia's Grotto. read more

Sweeties has been on my radar ever since I heard about them last year. I made the trek from California all the way to Boston, and I figured it was the best time to check it off of my foodie bucket list. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Taste: I tried the golden milk, toasted hay, cornbread, and sweet basil flavors. They were all so unique, flavorful, robust, and delicious! It was tough to pick a favorite, but I ended up with the sweet basil with a coconut non-dairy base. The texture was light, smooth, and satisfying. In summary, it was damn good! Each spoonful had me doing my happy dance LOL! Service: The staff was extremely friendly and down-to-earth. Jamila was really nice and approachable and she quickly whipped up my custom cone. Anika was very knowledgeable and gave me some great food recommendations for local businesses in the area. This woman-owned shop is doing it right, and they do it well. The service was top-notch! Location: It's right in the heart of the super cute Roslindale community. Need I say more? Price: I thought the price was quite fair for gourmet New Zealand-style ice cream. It's not just ice cream. It's a whole experience, and it's absolutely worth the price. I was happy to support this small business. Ambiance: This place is such a vibe. It's fun, friendly, relaxed, welcoming, family-oriented, and just so cool. I struck up a conversation with a few regular customers, and I could have easily stayed for hours just chatting with the owners. Cons: None. I'm sad that there isn't a location on the West Coast. Took my 5 year old grandson here. One employee working and steady stream of customers, including onr who said she had placed a big order. Employee was awesome, taking orders, answering questions and filling orders quickly. My grandson almost finished his ice cream and sprinkles which says alot because last year at another place, he methodically ate the sprinkles and left the ice cream. Yes, please: this place is exactly what the neighborhood needed. I love how you can totally customize your treat to your specifications with such a wide variety of bases/mix-ins/toppings, but they also have some suggested pre-fab combos to choose from, and the menu ranges from classic combos to more unique offerings (hello, tahini!). It ends up being a great combo of soft-serve texture with true ice cream flavor: not too heavy or light, not too sweet, good sized portions, and options for cones or bowls. Plus they're starting to have special events (wine tasting, with red wine drizzle options?!), and their menu constantly rotates with seasonal creations and options, so you'll never get bored. Note it can get pricey depending on how many options you choose- and some of the chosen mix-ins might not disperse as regularly as others just because of logistics, so choose your adventure wisely. Mango ends up tasting more like vanilla ice cream with mango chunks, whereas raspberry spreads out far more evenly and it's much harder to tell what the original base even was. Same with toppings: lime zest is lovely but only covers the thin top layer of the ice cream, vs. a coconut cream which tends to be incorporated into more bites. I also think this differs from the other New Zealand-style ice cream around here, in a good way: Far Out feels more like thin froyo IMO, whereas Sweeties' base is more creamy and full-bodied. The owners are super nice and welcoming, though one of the other young staff members seems less enthused to be there. I also got a bonus piece of unordered cookie dough in the bottom of my cup, presumably leftover from the previous order- I'm personally here for it, but be wary if you have allergies to be mindful of. read more

We happened upon this place after having dinner in the neighborhood. It's New Zealand style ice cream which we've never had before. Jamila took our order and was so helpful and friendly. She explained everything to us and made some recommendations since this was our first time. The ice cream was so delicious. It was light and not too rich or sweet. I got the kiddie size coffee base with blueberry mixin and chocolate cookie crunch topping. Will definitely come back here to try some more flavors. Highly recommend!!! read more

Delicious ice cream served with kindness and a welcoming atmosphere! We had never had New Zealand style ice cream before, and this was a big hit. Being able to have a custom flavor just for you was a delight, and the diner style seating at the counter was fun to see the process of it being made. Also big shout out to having non-dairy options, all of which were clearly labeled! I agree with the other low reviews. Will never be back here again. This is my 2nd time in the place 1st time I got food poisoning from one of their fridge items. 2nd time I ordered a vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Been waiting 20 min still haven't started yet. I would have been waiting another 20 min for it to get done. The 3 young staff don't seem to know what there doing. Need to be trained and supervised correctly if you want to work in a fast place environment. I got a refund and walked out. Very disappointed. read more

A lot of people in our neighborhood of Roslindale are going crazy for this new local spot. My wife and I made our first trip this past weekend and were a little underwhelmed. Both of us ordered kiddie cups -- each with one mix-in and one topping. After each of us ordered, the person taking the order tried to upsell us on a more expensive option -- and seemed annoyed that neither of us took her up on her suggestions. My selection was vanilla with basil creme and lime zest -- with basil listed as a mix-in and lime as a topping. The basil was not incorporated into the ice cream at all. What I got was vanilla ice cream with a thin layer of basil creme on top and a little lime zest on top of that. The five or six little bites on the top of the cup were delicious -- but, after that, what I was left with was a little cup of unadorned vanilla. When we walked in there was one other party of three -- a woman and two little kids -- who already had ordered and were waiting for their ice cream. There were two staffers. After we ordered and paid, our two kiddie cups did not arrive for more than 15 minutes. And they cost more than 15 bucks. According to the menu, the first mix-in is included. Given what we paid, it looks like we may have been overcharged -- never a good look. Especially after all the buzz, we had high hopes for this spot. But, our experience probably will not have us returning anytime soon. It just seems overpriced and overhyped. read more

Such a lovely addition to the Roslindale food scene! At Sweeties you can pick a base (chocolate, vanilla, dairy free vanilla - at least that's what it was when I was there!) and then you pick from many different mix ins and toppers! The ice cream goes through a mixer and comes out an amazing soft serve texture! It's so delicious and the owner was beyond kind!! If you don't feel like choosing yourself, they also have combinations that their chef chose! According to the owner, they will change each month! Those looked incredible. The space was also so cute!! Cannot wait to go back! I hope they get a grant from the city to get a new sign out front! The old awning is not as cute as the store is inside!! read more

I'm not someone that put bad things in business reviews, but in this case it has nothing to do with the business but with two employees around 17-22 years old, they gave me a hard time, the cashier made me repeat the word "mango" "More than 5 times because according to him he didn't understand me, when in my language (Spanish) it is pronounced very similar, the boy who was behind him who was not actually taking my order, but was giving me an unpleasant look, I can't tell Whether they are racist or not, but I think that two people like that can't work in a city like Roslindale, where we have immigrants from all over the world .They have the best ice cream, but those two people should not work in the front of a business, but in the back where there is no one of any color or appearance different from them. read more
