My friend mentioned there was a great ice cream place that opened near me, and I couldn't wait to try it! Far out blends fruit into their ice creams which makes them taste out of this world. You can either make your own flavor by choosing a base ice cream and picking out your fruit as well as toppings. I tried the Elvis which is a chocolate banana ice cream with a peanut butter topping and crunchy chocolate pieces and flakes of sea salt. It was so rich and creamy. I loved every bite. The staff was great at keeping up with the line and we got our order in no time at all. One thing I will say is, it's a bit pricey for a small cup. However I understand fresh fruit is expensive and I will pay for a delicious treat like this any day, def worth it. We will definitely be back to try more flavors from Far out. read more

Tried their matcha mango vanilla. It had a weird gummy texture to the ice cream and felt bland. Didn't taste vanilla mango or matcha. It was also not vibrant green of a matcha as like the picture in store. Felt the hairs of the mango in the ice cream so it wasn't pleasant. It tasted like the matcha was not good quality/off and just mango hairs in it. It was thick like Greek yogurt but lacked any of the flavors Staff was kind and polite and service was quick but taste wise would not go again read more

It takes them kind of long to make the order, so just be aware if there's a lot of people in front of you. I usually go chocolate over vanilla but I think the chocolate flavor overpowers the fruit too much. read more

I first tried Far Out at the Timeout Market near Fenway and was instantly obsessed with their ice cream. My favorites are the strawberry graham cracker and mango matcha. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this location in Brookline that has seating. It was quite busy when I stopped by on a Wednesday night and it took us a few minutes to find a seat. They also have free self serve water. read more

Quite good. Good portion sizes and creamy and light soft serve that's not overly sweet. I really like how the fruit pieces are evenly mixed in but I think that also subdued the flavors of the fruit. Overall I didn't find the matcha mango flavor to be very strong but maybe a different flavor will be better! Prices are average for ice cream places ($8-$10 for the regular size) - could be cheaper. read more

I had never been to this Far Out Ice Cream location. I had been once to the location in Time Out Market a few years ago, but they stopped offering the vegan base, so I was not able to get it since. I recently was nearby this location on a hot summer evening, and decided to stop in to finally try it out again. Summer and ice cream is a good pair. Going inside, you order by yourself on kiosks, not at the counter. There are signs to guide you to the iPads to order, but if it's crowded inside, this isn't the most intuitive thing for a newcomer. The ordering kiosks are practically the furthest location from the entrance. It was crowded when I went, but mostly with people eating their ice cream or waiting for an order so once I found the kiosk, I was able to order pretty quickly. Even with a bunch of people hanging out on a summer night, I was impressed that my order was ready pretty quickly (less than 5 minutes from placing the order). I decided to get the Vegan Kookaberry (vegan vanilla base) with blueberry and mango New Zealand style. It was good and serving was acceptable, but mine started to melt pretty quickly and was dripping over the side of my cup (about 5 minutes after getting it). Also, it is on the pricier side for ice cream, even without adding on things like toppings. For any non-dairy folks, you have to pay extra for the vegan substitution, which I genuinely find annoying. I do like that each order is made on the spot and you can customize flavors from time to time. I would go back again to try other options, but I personally wouldn't go out of my way for it. read more

I actually came here two days in a row! The first day was with my BF and my sister. They both got the pre-made mixes and I decided to go for a dirty soda. The strawberry grahamcake one was the best, but I felt like the mango sticky rice was a little low on flavor and then the dirty soda (the root beer float) was extremely sweet--a little overpowering. Luckily I went back with some friends the next day, so I was able to give this another try. I got the raspberri mudslide in a kiddie size. This was much better. I liked that it was like a raspberry chip soft serve with some chocolate drizzle. I agree with some of the other commenters that the touch screen ordering is a bit overwhelming, because there are so many options and abbreviations on the menu. I also think it creates a bit of a bottleneck with ordering because we were spending so much time scrolling through the touch screen and trying to figure out what our choices were and what we should get. Overall, I wasn't super wowed by the ice cream or the experience. It is refreshing, and if you like fruit ice creams/fro yo vibes, this might be great for you. But it was pretty expensive and some of the orders we got were misses. read more

Oh my god, some of the best and most unique desserts I've ever had! The new zealand style concept is so cool! I love how customizable it is, and it feels like you can't go wrong with any combo because everything just tastes so fresh. This is seriously a dessert you can't get enough of because it's perfectly sweet while still being light and rejuvenating! The service is kind and quick and the vibes are upbeat and fun! Unique ice cream store with the cutest mascot and decor! Loved the orange and white theme. You order from a kiosk, and your ice cream is served super quickly! They specialize in frozen yogurt-esque ice cream that it made with your choice of fruit, and either a vanilla or chocolate base. They dump everything into a cone that then squishes the flavors together and creates a soft serve. My friend got the kookaberry kids size, which clearly had remnants of berries inside and tasted incredibly refreshing with no heaviness. I got the Hokey Pokey kids size, which is a flavor from New Zealand with vanilla ice cream mixed with honeycomb toffee. Quite delicious and unique - not too sweet! Def heavier than the kookaberry. Prob would wanna try vanilla with mango next time for a more refreshing flavor. read more

Far out is so good!! I always stop in at their Time Out Market location. It's a little pricey, but it's one of my favorite ice cream places in the area. Maybe it's the fact that this place lacks the human touch, but the ice cream was definitely missing something. The ambiance of the new Cleveland Circle location feels like a cross between a subway station, complete with kiosk, and the tiled back room of a vet's office. As for service, FAR OUT appears to be approaching automation. You may not use cash, you must order through a keypunch pad, euphemistically referred to as 'the kiosk,' and a machine prepares the ice cream. Sad, really. Anyone remember Steve's ice cream in Somerville? The mix-ins, prepared and served by humans you could talk with. That ain't happening anymore. So drop the nostalgia and pick up your favorite pint at Cumbies up Chestnut Hill Ave instead! read more

a unique spot for new Zealand ice cream that fans of fruity ice cream will love! Far out is a trendy and casual spot where you customize your order at an iPad and offers a few seating options in and outside. I made my own combination with a vanilla base, mango chopped and blended in (blending on ingredients is their staple), and topped with condensed milk. It definitely was refreshing and felt lighter than ice cream but creamier than froyo. A cool option to mix up your sweet treat. It was however a little pricey. The service was honestly one of the worst I've experienced. I like the ice cream itself, but the customer service completely ruined the visit. They got our order wrong multiple times. First, they gave me the ice cream without the cone, even though I had ordered a chocolate-dipped cone. I told them the cone was missing, but they didn't seem to hear me. Then they gave me a plain cone without the chocolate coating. I had to explain it again. It took three attempts before I finally received the chocolate-dipped cone I originally ordered. What made it even more frustrating was the attitude. The staff looked annoyed the entire time, as if helping customers was a burden. At one point I asked where the trash can was. One employee made direct eye contact with me, so I know they saw me, but they completely ignored me and started calling another customer's order instead. I asked again, and another employee looked at me with an irritated expression, like, "What do you want?" The ice cream is good, but the service was rude, dismissive, and unwelcoming. I left feeling frustrated, and unfortunately I don't plan on coming back. read more

The first time I had far out was actually at time out market in fenway. It was so good, I had to check out their original location in MA! To my expectations, this store is even better than imagined. Staff is friendly, self service kiosks are easy to use, store is clean and inviting, prepacked pints can be picked up in the back, and froyo is delicious. I really like their raspberry w/ chocolate flakes but thus time I got strawberry w/ graham cracker dust and it tasted like cheesecake! Tangy, creamy, and not too sweet. Highly recommend! read more

Highly recommend ordering for pickup, otherwise be prepared to wait. I got the kookaberry while my partner got the strawberry topped with crushed graham crackers. I enjoyed the kookaberry, similar to how I make a smoothie. My partner preferred mine too. I enjoy that you can customize whether you want a vanilla or chocolate base and what to top it with. Because it's so customized, they make each to order so it takes a while. They call out orders by name instead of number so you really can't tell when you'd be coming up unfortunately. read more

It was fun to try this place for the novelty of it. Their NZ ice cream is regular ice cream but blended with a lot of fruit, so what you get in the end is a sort of mix of ice cream and fruit with a fro-yo consistency. I went with chocolate ice cream mixed with blueberries and cherries which was tasty, but the cherries definitely overpowered the blueberries. The end result tasted sort of like those retail cherry cordials, but seemed healthier in that there weren't any detectable notes of anything artificial. Not bad. The only option to order is to use their touch screen system, which I always feel is a bit of a pain. No one really explained to us what the offerings were like, so we had to extensively look through the touch screen options to get a sense of the different sizes, flavors and sundaes. When we visited there were not many folks in the shop, so our orders came out quickly. However, the staff didn't seem to be keeping the place very clean and tidy- tables were dirty with ice cream drippings and chairs at empty tables were not pushed in. Everything is quite pricey; two kiddie size cups were almost $12. I was kind of annoyed that they request a tip on the touch screen because we basically ordered on our own and the staff certainly wasn't doing much to attend to the tables or clean up. Glad to try it to see what it is like but unlikely I will be back given the price, annoyance of the touch screen system and lack of attention to cleanliness. read more

I have a gluten intolerance, and I was so grateful that they clean the machine to prevent cross-contamination - even with how busy they were. It's no surprise that there's a line but well worth the wait! Mango ice cream was so good. Closest thing to soft serve that I can get near me read more

I've been a customer at far out since the beginning. I love the product (I was a kookaburra fan for a long time, but I got switched onto Raspberry Mudslide by a nice young employee of yours a few months ago) and have always loved the good music in the store. Today, however, the service made my whole month better. Sophie, Anabel, and Cassidy made me laugh, smile, and cry tears of joy with how delicious the mudslide was. I asked last minute if coconut flakes might taste good in the ice cream and Sophie said it would work, and it was fabulous. Anabel complimented my fun sunglasses and it was just a stupendous time. We got the kookaberry with a vanilla base and chocolate base, to compare. The vanilla emphasized the berry flavors (wasn't prominent in the background) while the chocolate flavor was a bit stronger (and better imo!) We went on a Wednesday night and the wait was very long- maybe 10 min between ordering through the kiosk and receiving our ice creams. Granted there were only 2 people behind the counter and it was very busy, but this place is much slower than your typical ice cream shop. This was my first time here and I intentionally chose a basic flavor combo to try first- I'd return to try other funkier combinations for sure! read more

Don't order online pickup unless you want the special online flavor. You are forced to pay a tip, and the takeout ice cream is compressed by the lids. It's better and so easy to order from the store kiosks because they have a bigger menu selection and it doesn't take that long inside anyway unless there's a long line. My favorite New Zealand combos so far have been anything berry. Those seem to taste the least sweet and most natural tasting. Also, they have very good tasting coffee and yummy lattes! read more

This place is such a unique and delicious treat! Every time I've visited, my experience has been great. And you know it's good when the smell of freshly baked waffle cones is the first smell that greets you as you walk inside. On my last visit, I tried one of their new specialty flavors which was made of strawberry and had honey drizzled on top. I love how fresh and fruity (without being artificial tasting) their ice cream is. Their cones are also delicious, although I wish they offered more varieties. I will say too that there is very limited seating inside. If you're coming with a large group, just expect that you'll probably have to take your ice cream to-go. read more

Picked up via doordash here on a hot summer day because I was feeling a little lighter, possibly fruity ice cream but not sorbet. The first time I'd come here a couple years ago, the line took like an hour because of the mix-ins so I was trying to avoid that experience. Picking up was fast and efficient and I wonder if the ordering kiosks if you order in person. The ice cream did hit the spot, the only bummer about the pickup was that it was pretty frozen and took a while to thaw - that is probably helpful for delivery but meant that the texture wasn't quite as fluffy as usual. read more

Super bright and fun vibes inside which I love! I got their best seller "strawberry grahamcake" and they infused strawberries and graham cracker crumbs into the ice cream It's basically cold stone creamery style but infused by a machine, not folded with the two medal spoons. The strawberry taste was prominent (which is good if you love strawberry ice cream) but halfway down the cone it became vanilla ice cream and that part was my favorite. Also it was $9 after tax for a cone (I guess that's the price you pay for customizable ice cream) and it comes out tasting like fro yo. Overall it's def a new and different experience! Super cute spot but the line can get long and interfere with the folks eating inside. You also order on an iPad so there's no interacting with the staff, other than to pickup your ice cream. I def wanna go back to try other flavors like chocolate ice cream with strawberry mixed in or vanilla and mango. :) read more

I was running errands with my mom in the neighborhood when I spotted this cute little ice cream shop. The woman working behind the counter was really friendly and explained how to order: first pick a base (vanilla or chocolate), then add in fresh fruit, which would be blended into the ice cream to make it more of a soft serve consistency, then you could opt for toppings. My mom got a vanilla with blueberries and strawberries in a cone and I decided on a vanilla with strawberries and banana in a cone. The ice cream was really smooth and tasty and the cones were crunchy and fresh. My only callout would be that it needed more fruit--the bottom of my cone was just vanilla. Overall, it's a fun place that I'd visit when I'm back in the area. read more

Flavors - 3/5 Textures - 4/5 Presentation - 4/5 Value for Money - 3/5 I love the idea here, but I think the experience will be highly dependent on the flavors. I got their best seller (Kookaberry) and it was good, but lacked sweetness, tanginess and excitement. It felt like a low fat/calorie ice cream (which if it is my score would be different, but they don't advertise it that way). I did love the presentation, but not the price. I also tried their vanilla base by itself and it was pretty good! Actually better than the blended ice cream, but you can't get it as soft serve, just as hard scoop. I liked the service ordering through the screen, although because this ice cream is so different, it might be a better experience to talk to someone about it that can help guide your choice. read more

Very tasty and good polite service . Nice and clean place. We had a great time and Will return for sure.

Tried the Kookaberry, which is their signature combination of strawberry, blueberry and raspberry with a vanilla base. The ice cream itself was very smooth and creamy, and tasted great for a supposedly "healthier" version of ice cream, but they don't seem to clean or swap out the ice cream emulsifier between orders because my ice cream had a very distinct chocolate flavor mixed in as well from the order right before mine. If you have significant allergies to anything on their menu, I would probably be careful with what you order here. Service was pretty fast and it was very busy on a Friday night. read more

Creamiest ice cream I've ever had!! So smooth and perfect amount of sweetness. I got the chocolate base with mango and added matcha as a topping, ran me about $7.50. Last week, we dropped by this place for some dessert. There was a bit of a queue and we waited for about 10 minutes before we could place our order on the electronic kiosk. You can customize your ice cream or you can choose the pre-made flavors(Enzy's favorites). I did the latter and got the New Zealand Colada which consisted vanilla ice cream, mango and pineapple chunks, and toasted coconut flakes. We waited for about 10 minutes before we got our order. Dining method: Counter-serve/Dine-in Item(s) ordered: Vanilla yogurt base with mango, peach, and toasted coconut flakes Speed: Kinda slow for an ice cream place. The order took about 10 minutes to come out. Value: At about $6-$7, this is a great buy on a hot day! The review: Far Out is a fun concept to try if you're ever bopping around Coolidge Corner. This New Zealand ice cream spot blends ice cream base with several fruit mix-ins and toppings. My ice cream did not taste very strongly of peach or mango, but did taste a bit like banana, which I did not order. Perhaps their cleaning is not the best.
