Omg the mango coconut jelly is the best dessert ever!! The mango purée is very sweet, but the jelly is not too sweet, so it is the perfect match. With the fresh mango on the top, and the coconut flavor, make this dessert even more enjoyable. I cannot wait to taste it again!
Came here for a break during the day and ordered the mango sago. Was pretty standard and portions are decently sized -- especially liked the sweet mango and sago but the glutinous rice balls were too chewy for my liking. Definitely a hole in the wall type of place -- wasn't very aesthetic. But the location is good so it's a nice stop if you've been shopping or walking around Boston Commons for a while.
Sweet Kingdom was open late enough for us to make our way here for dessert after dinner out. They have a $10 credit card minimum, so I paid cash for my Mango Coconut Jelly $7.50 which made for a light and refreshing treat. A styrofoam bowl was readily supplied upon request for those who interested in sharing their sweet.
This place serves Asian desserts such as sago, herbal jelly with various ingredients, shaved ice and more. I was very disappointed with what they had here. There are tons of seats and it was fairly empty inside so I expected to get my order quickly but the service was actually kind of slow. I ordered the black sesame dessert that also had tang yuan filled with black sesame inside. The dessert was very watery, and luke warm. I prefer it to have a thick consistency and at a warmer temperature. The tang yuan were pretty good, very soft and mochi-like. I also ordered the mango kingdom which seems big but actually wasn't a lot. It was just alright. The ice cream also looked pink and I'm pretty sure it was strawberry ice cream, when I was expecting mango ice cream. I feel like Sweet Kingdom used to be much better but now the quality of their items just aren't as good anymore.
My friend and I went here this past weekend for dessert. We shared a hot sesame paste with sesame-filled glutinous rice balls and a mango kingdom. The hot sesame paste was very watery and hardly had any sesame flavor. The sesame rice balls were good though. The mango kingdom consisted of mango cubes, tapioca, and mango ice cream. It was average. I felt that the mango was canned and not fresh.
The strawberry milk shaved ice was a little too sweet for my taste but the textures and toppings were great! And 10/10 for presentation for sure. My other friends seemed to like their choices too and overall it was really nice atmosphere for hanging out! We also really appreciated the owner/manager not kicking us out even when it was 20+ min past closing! Great late night (relatively late for Boston) spot though for better dessert I might try the other places in Allston next time.
Allston is filled with sit-down spots for Asian dessert like Sweet Kingdom. Inside this cutesy looking cafe, they have some bright orange-lemon-lime theme colored furniture, a massive floral mural and booths for groups. They serve a variety of desserts like sweet soups, smoothies, waffles, pudding, ice cream and other goodies with tapioca toppings in all shapes and sizes to share with friends, maybe not your besties because they would probably karate chop you for taking them here, you'll see why below, just the other friends who really want to try this place out. Strawberry Waffle- So it's definitely not a waffle made out of strawberries or has strawberry flavors in it or even has strawberry slices to top it off. As a matter of fact, the waffles are just made out of regular egg flavored batter. It's served with red color heart-shaped jelly and coconut jelly, drizzled with chocolate, and the only thing that is strawberry is the scoop of ice cream. It was eh. It really should be called waffle with strawberry ice cream. Mango Coconut Jelly Sago- Yummy delicious coconut jelly, sweet mango, mango puree, and creamy lait de coco. The sago bits were a little frozen though. Overall Service: No much service here. They barely said a word to us, handed us a pad for us to order, here's the food, here's the check, and see ya!
Came here with a few friends on a Saturday evening and it was quiet. Red flag? The Thai iced tea was underwhelming. The drink was tasteless and bland, with barely any creamy flavor. I didn't try the mango desserts very much but they looked lackluster in comparison to C Fruit Life's offerings. With competition heating up around, you could probably find better nearby.
A classic place that offers Taiwanese and Chinese-style desserts! My friend and I ordered the Ice Herbal Jelly Moochi A and it was more than enough to share between us. The bowl came with boba (pearls), mochi, red bean, coconut jelly, pudding, and finally topped with taro-flavored ice cream. It had just the right amount of sweetness and would recommend this dish to anyone trying to try a variety of Asian toppings
I'm giving lots of threes lately. Boston stop being mediocre T_T First off, yay to finally seeing some business in this spot that use to be a chinese takeout joint. Decor is wicked cute. Friend and I notice a funky smell, I thought it was the smell of someone throwing boba tea powder in the air, and my friend thought it was the smell of paint. And before you be saying it's "stinky durian smell". H to the ell no because I love durian and it would smell fabulous. Anyways, was very distracting. From reading the reviews I knew to just sit at the table and have them bring the tablet out. My friends joke about jacking the tablet... eh... Haha? I agree with the other reviews as having a group choosing on the tablet can be annoying. Since we all wanted to look at a different category. They should just put a big printout of everything on each table. I really wanted my own because my belly doesn't know what sharing mean but peer pressure we had to share. Q_Q Got the one with mango, sago and chewy rice ball... Other pair got same but minus el balls. Both are suppose to have ice cream, except we never got ours. Had to ask them and they just said "oh" and brought us the ice cream after we basically finish ours dessert. It's ok though, ice cream tasted pretty good. I do want to retry. Collectively A gave it a 3. B gave it a 4. And C is picky so she probably would give if a 2 (I forgot to ask). I give it a 3.25 so do your average 3rd grade math ~ Kinda overprice for a bitty dessert tho. :B
My first ever HK dessert experience! So, I've walked by The Sweet Kingdom several times now and I've always been drawn in by the super cool, modern, and trendy interior; but never had the opportunity to check them out until yesterday. We arrived relatively early in the evening and sat down at one of the tables. There's a counter up front, but you don't order from there. You order from a tablet and take the tablet up to counter after you've selected your goodies; then you wait. We ordered the Mango with Mochi and the Matcha Waffles. We also added an extra scoop of vanilla ice cream, mochi, and oreo crumbles to the waffle. It took about 15 minutes for our food to come out; which is a tad too long considering we were the only people there and the only thing that required cooking was the waffle. I really liked how refreshing the Mango with Mochi was! It basically consisted of mangos, mango puree, mango ice cream, sago, and mochi. The combination of textures from the creamy puree, cold ice cream, smooth mango, and chewiness of the mochi and sago was really interesting and tasty. (FYI: Sago is a a small, pearly substance obtained from the spongy insides of the sago palm tree. It's tapioca-sized, but has a chewier consistency.) It kind of reminded me of a chilled Vietnamese chè with fruits and ice cream. The waffle, on the other hand, could've been done better. It was supposed to be a matcha waffle, but I couldn't taste the matcha at all; it was basically a regular waffle with matcha powder sprinkled on top. Also, the chocolate sauce on top was a little overwhelming; but bonus points for the matcha Pocky-like sticks they used as a garnish. The bf and I actually like them so much, we stopped at the 88 to pick some up! Afterwards, we paid at the front; there's a $10 minimum for credit cards, and with each dessert costing ~$6- $7, not including add-ons, it's not hard to hit that mark. Service was pretty hands-off. There wasn't too much interaction, but the interaction we had was pleasant. All-in-all, The Sweet Kingdom seems like it would be a fun place to hit up after dinner or to escape the heat outside, but I'd stick to the more traditional stuff and forego the waffles.

Tea places and so much more. Even concert venues are also here. So you get Easily distracted when you're walking around the area. Me and my friend took her son for a walk. She wanted to show me where she used to live before so we passed by Allston and decided to grab a dessert instead of getting lunch since we both didn't eat yet. We find this place. We were going to get some gelato or froyo but we saw this and decided to go in. Was pretty quiet that afternoon the lady that was working came to us with an iPad to order. Which was really cool! I've never been to a restaurant or a dessert place that has an iPad for you to order so I got really excited! We ordered in order came in a reasonable time. I got some mango ice cream mango shake and some mango pudding with vanilla ice cream with it. The area is really stylish as well so if you're just going to chill or just kill time it's a perfect place. Would love to come back for some desserts to try that I haven't tried yet.
Not too bad! Those bubbles actually are kinda chewy! Better than many bubble tea shops！ Beyond my expectations! Haha~
First time here and the cashier (possibly owner?) was very helpful. Very spacious interior, great spot to hang out with larger friend groups. Ordered a herbal jelly base dessert and added sweet potato. I will say the texture for the taro and sweet potato balls aren't as good as Meet Fresh but I do love the option for sweet potato. read more

The place is very clean and pretty (and they have a nice and clean restroom!). We were given a tablet to order our desserts. The pictures on it are pretty accurate to what we ordered. I did noticed how pricey the desserts were since I have been to other places with lower prices than those here. The desserts were okay. It wasn't bad to the point where I wouldn't come back again. The dessert I had was really sweet. My friend thought it tasted like apple sauce. Service for me was good. No one came to ask us to hurry up with our orders or to leave. I wouldn't mind coming back again considering this is a nice place to lounge around and go to the restroom. read more
Very pricey. If you don't like mango or durian your choices will be limited! The sweet soups are a hit or miss. The only one I really like is the mango madness! I love the Tapioca and the coconut jelly in my sweet soups! read more
Innovative way of ordering your food with ipads that show you description of each item and price. Saves both you and the waiter the hassle of going back and forth between what is this? do you have this in stock? etc... Although sometimes it's nice to have charismatic wait staff show you what's good! I really wanted to try the taro tong sui, but sadly they were out of it. Instead, my boyfriend and I got the mango kingdom and Sweet glutinous rice with sago. They were both pretty good, but I would have to say that the price is pretty steep for tong sui. My boyfriend found some hair in his, but was kind enough not to say anything about it. The glutinous rice was also served rice on top of the tong sui as if it were a scoop of ice-cream. Although unconventional, I actually preferred it this way so that I could take chunks out of it or mix it in my tong sui if I wanted to. read more

My sister and I got a bunch of sweets... green tea waffles, Indonesian bird nest soup, and sweet soups. They were all pretty good. I really enjoyed it, although the waffles was pretty hard but it was tasty. The menu is on an iPad, which was pretty cool. The place looks cute and clean. We came in around 7pm and it was pretty empty, plenty of seats. I think everyone should try this place if you enjoy Chinese (Hong Kong) sweets. read more

Haven't been to a true Hong Kong dessert place so I can't comment on how this compares to the real thing, but I thought the desserts here were okay. You go in and can sit anywhere you like and the waitress brings a tablet to your table which you order off of. For ice cream, we ordered the fruit bowl and vanilla ice cream with waffles. The waffles looked like they'd be soft and crispy, but they were very hard and dry. The fruit bowl was pretty good and the fruit tasted pretty fresh (comes with mango, kiwi, watermelon, and honey dew). We also got watermelon tofu pudding, which is a cold dessert made of watermelon juice and silken tofu. Pretty refreshing, and I could see this being a popular summertime option. Lastly, we got the hot sesame soup with sesame-filled glutinous rice balls. This also comes in a cold option. This was pretty tasty, but it is VERY dense. We weren't able to finish this between the four of us because it was so heavy. Overall, this is a nice hangout spot but the desserts themselves are mediocre. read more
There's a popular dessert chain in Asia called "Honeymoon Dessert" that serves traditional Chinese/Cantonese desserts in their signature plastic yellow square bowls. So naturally, when I saw that Sweet Kingdom served traditional Chinese/Cantonese desserts in that same plastic yellow square bowl, I was intrigued. Unfortunately, I only had a little bit of time before my dinner plans so I quickly ordered at the counter and didn't get to experience what sounds like a cool tablet/online-shopping menu-browsing experience. I personally love seeing pictures of what I'm ordering so I know I would've fallen head over heels for that. I ordered my favorite 杨枝甘露 (yang zhi gan lu), which they've named "The Mango Kingdom." It's definitely a staple as far as this type of "soupy" desserts go so I feel like it makes a good litmus test. My experience with "The Mango Kingdom" was 3 stars at best, not even taking into consideration that the mangos were underripe because mangos aren't quite in season yet. First of all, 杨枝甘露 doesn't traditionally have ice cream in it, so when I ordered, I asked whether I could have it without ice cream. She said yes. So I said great, one Mango Kingdom without ice cream. And lo and behold, it came.. with ice cream. Luckily, the ice cream was not as intrusive as I had imagined since it was not super creamy but rather a tangy mango flavor but it was still not what I ordered. Second of all, the Mango Kingdom is supposed to come with grapefruit and I literally got a couple teardrops of grapefruit. I don't even know what such a small portion of grapefruit is called.. a juice sac? (See photo for the sad sight) Flavor-wise, it was alright and the sago was a good texture. During my brief visit, I enjoyed the well-lit, comfy booth style seating. They've only been open for about 2 months and it seems like they're not overly busy yet so it seems like a nice place to hang out with friends in between meals or as a sweet note to end the night. I am definitely eager to come back and try some of their other dessert soups, namely the Mango and Black Sticky Rice with Coconut Sauce, and to try their fancy tablet, pictures-galore ordering system. read more

Desserts are not good at all. Compare to Hong Kong then it's just terrible desserts. The design of the place is nice but this place is never pack each time I come here. The Korean MVs is just really weird. Should be a great place for hang out spot for the young crowd but not much people come here. Last time we ordered a taro dessert and its tasteless. Why is it not sweet at all? Sweet Kingdom, you have to update your desserts and find a way to make them taste better. U give better quality then you will have more customers!!! Stop staying behind the counter to use your phone when you can improve your desserts. Thanks! read more
Sweet Kingdom should have a different name. Mango Kingdom...? 50 Shades of Mango? Yeah, I like that one better. Rather than getting frozen yogurt in the Allston area, we happened to come across Sweet Kingdom through a recommendation of a friend. We like trying new places and thought it might be similar to a place called Yocha in Quincy. As soon as you step into the somewhat small store, you are greeted by the odor of durian. To people that are unfamiliar with it, it is a southeast Asian fruit that has a custard-like texture, with an odor similar to garbage or a fart. If you are willing to overcome the scent, durian is a fruit loved by many. The atmosphere felt modern, with good decor and a variety of current music videos playing on a TV screen for background music. To continue with the modern vibe, we were then greeted, brought over to a table, and given a Surface Pro Tablet in which we could look at their menu and place our order. Although the concept of the tablet might seem cool, the usage of it is a little out of place. You cannot fully place your order as it requires a confirmation code, you cannot call over a waiter with the tablet, nor can you pay when you're done using that device. The desserts offered almost seem a little...repetitive. Most items are soupy or custard like creations, often swimming in coconut milk and tapioca and contains some form of mango. Crepes and smoothies are also offered, but still, Sweet Kingdom lacks variety. The menu also boasts items you've never even heard of. When the waiter explained to two people that a dish contained the fatty tissue of a frog's uterus, they left right after, despite the claimed health benefits or the deliciousness of it. Although we were a little shocked by it all, we decided to stay and try out the Mango Madness, which in fact proved to be delicious and more refreshing than what we expected. In comparison to Yocha in Quincy, I definitely like this dessert better. At an $8 price point however, it is expensive and not worth going out of the way to have again. (BTW: $10 minimum for using credit card) In summary? Sweet Kingdom definitely has some kinks to get over and needs to expand their menu to reach a larger audience. More food variety, better description of the menu, and allowing for full tablet use from beginning to end would make the experience much better. read more
Very modern Asian desert Cafe. Being from Florida, a traditional Asian desert place is so scarce to find and a good one is practically nonexistent. Finding this place, I was so excited! The servers are Chinese and pretty friendly. The menu is on an iPad with pictures which is always a plus for me. There's a flat-screen TV showing the latest Jay Chou videos when we were in. I got a custom order that wasn't on the menu, herbal grass jelly with coconut milk and sago 贵零膏西迷露. It was pretty good. The grass jelly is naturally bittersweet but it was marinated in honey so it came out sweet. The coconut milk base and the sago was on the less flavorful side but that's the way I like it. My friend got the sesame mochi ball with sesame paste soup 芝麻胡杨. It was super sweet but she loved it too. read more

I came here a few days ago during the mid afternoon and it was not busy at all. Overall, I would give this place a 3/5 stars. ENVIRONMENT/SERVICE: I really liked the environment because it felt very clean, new, and high tech. I enjoyed the tablet that they give to customers to choose their orders. I also found the waitresses to be very kind and friendly. Our orders came out shortly after we ordered, so service was very quick. Only thing I would complain about is the smell of durian. I personally do not like the taste of durian or the smell. When my friend and the customer behind me ordered durian, I felt like the whole place smelt like it. I did not mind it too much, but if you get light headed from the smell of durian... good luck and hope that no one around you orders a durian desert. DESSERT: My friends got the durian pancake and a mango combination that included coconut jelly, coconut milk, mango icecream, and sago (tapioca) -- I think it was called mango madness. I got the mango combination was pretty much the mango madness, but without the mango icecream. My order didn't taste bad, but it definitely wasn't amazing. I wished it tasted sweeter -- maybe the mango madness would have been a better order for me. My desert tasted more milky than the actual fruity flavor I was expecting. Another thing I noticed is that more than half of their options have coconut and mango. I don't really have an issue with this, but my friend who was allergic to both mango and coconut had very little to choose from. I guess since it is a fairly new place, they have yet to develop more options. PRICE: The mango madness and my order was each $7.25 and I found that very pricy for the quality of the dessert. Sweeet Kingdom lost a star after my friends and I realized that we had to pay tip for our dessert. I understand that we were sitting there, but we honestly sat their for 30 minutes max. In every single desert place I have been to, I have never been requested to pay tip espescially if it is set up to give a cafe environment. Thus, my order came to about $9 for something I didn't extremely enjoy. I don't think think their desserts are bad, but there are definitely better places with similar desserts such as Yocha in Quincy. I will not be coming back to this place unless I happened to be in the area or if I want to try something completely different that they offer. I will definitely update my review if I try something new. NOTES: They accept credit card but with $10 minimum. They also open until 2am and stop taking orders at 1:30am. Oh, Sweet Kingdom... you could have been so much more.... That's the thought that keeps running through my head every time I think about my experience here. I'm a huge fan of Asian-style dessert. Put real mango pieces with mango ice cream and throw in some sago, and you can't go wrong, right? First, the good stuff. The decor is great! Compared to the last restaurant that was here, this is a huge upgrade. Everything looks new, and the style is definitely modern. You even get to do your orders on a tablet. They've got a ton of options - as long as you like Mango or Durian. A quick warning for those who may be sensitive to smells - one of the major selling points of this place is that it offers Durian desserts. So when you walk in, you may smell something stinky - yup, that's durian. Now, the not so good stuff. I got the Mango Madness, which comes with pretty much everything I like - the mango ice cream, real mango, and sago. But it was almost flavorless! Maybe it was the overpowering smell of the Durian Madness that my neighbor got? In any case, not only did it not satisfy my mango dessert craving, the portion size was really small. To top it off, it was crazy expensive too. I don't mind paying a premium for quality stuff, but I expect to be blown away if I'm paying that much for dessert. Finally, I wish they simply had more variety. I'm willing to try other stuff because frankly, there's just no good Asian desserts in Allston. read more
Wow, what a meh experience and not even because it's not mango season. A bit about me - I love these mango desserts ever since running into them in Hong Kong a few years back. They were absolutely great and refreshing for the hot humidity there, and as they get their mangoes from the Mango Heavens of the Philippines, they were extraordinary. Plus, they were like.. $2 - $3 a dish. Dayum. This place pales in comparison, which, granted, was expected. Here's some of the many cons: -No store front sign. Wtf. Great, thanks for making me seem dumb as I wander in front of your store front and peer in like a pervert. You had one job, buy-a-sign-and-install employee, one job. -Seating can be confusing. You see a cashier in front, so you kinda start moving towards there because you start thinking it's an order-at-the-front-then-sit kinda place. It's not. Waiter will eventually come out and tell you to sit where you would like (or I'm guessing you can just sit, but the waiter may miss you coming in.) -Pricey. About $6 - $8 a dessert dish. Yikes. There's a similar place in NYC, and it's only $3 - $4... you do the comparison. -Menu, although convenient because it's electronic, is confusing. I spent more time going through each category because I wasn't sure what would fall under them (with lots not even making sense anyways) than waiting for my food. Plus, the menu selection is slightly lacking as well with variety. -In general, underwhelming taste and quality. Mangoes were the worst of course due to the seasonality (buffer from giving this place 2 stars, as I'm making the assumption this place should be 3 stars with decent mangoes in stock) - so I'm not sure why they decided it was a good idea to open in the middle of winter. Most of the other dishes were just... okay, with nothing really standing out. Yupp. Probably would try again in the summer, but that would be it. Felt adventurous and tried the papaya birds nest and lavender milk tea. The papaya birds nest was $35, so I expected a more generous serving of birds nest, but it was all scraps. The papaya tasted like it had been microwaved, which made it very dry and tasteless. This was the biggest rip off ever. The lavender milk tea was bitter, but maybe that's because I got it with half sugar. read more
