Loved it!! Great establishment. Great service, really nice spot to chill at with fun vibe and great iced coffee and ice cream!!!
I forgot the second flavor I tried, but the other one was the salted caramel cookies n' creme. I remember it because it was insanely sweet. I probably should've expected that since it's caramel with cookies n' creme, but it wasn't very enjoyable and left a lingering sugary aftertaste.
JP licks is a Boston staple and never disappoints. High quality ice cream. Prices have definitely gone up. The kiddie was tiny and 5$. Employees are very nice and they let you try samples. Good amount of indoor seating.
Busy ice cream spot on a Saturday night. Seating gets pretty difficult to find when all of the school-age students come out, but the ice cream is worth it. Seating on the side across the ice cream counter and pretty homey feel. Scooper was really nice and generous with samples, which made my ice cream selection easy. Double scoop Black Raspberry and Salted Caramel Infused Coffee (~$7): both on the creamier side. Raspberry didn't taste like that fake flavoring or anything but did lean towards huckleberry in a good way. Caramel coffee was delicious, with the strong coffee taste working really well with the sweetness of the caramel and the savoriness of the salt. I can see why it seems to be such a dependable ice cream spot.
Good amount of seating, nice staff, fun flavors. This place usually has a decent crowd, the brownie batter and the sorbets are pretty good. They also have dairy free and gluten free options! Great place to catch up and get ice cream with friends.
Really good ice cream. The service is quick and friendly. JP Licks has nice cow decor and just an overall great vibe.
Finally tried J P Licks and it was good! I got the PB cookies and cream, a combo of two of my favorite flavors, and I got a great taste of both. Served on a waffle cone of course! Would come back again for this flavor.
Stopped here for dessert after eating at zaftigs when just walking around. When I walked in it looked very nice and was expecting some good ice cream. I don't remember what I ordered all I know is that it was excellent. Would recommend stopping here worth every dollar spent.
Being new to Boston, I knew I had to find a solid ice cream spot to satisfy my sweet tooth. I'm very particular about my ice cream and the consistency. I don't care for softer ice creams. We decided to stop by for dessert after doing some shopping and getting some pizza at Otto. It was my first visit to J.P. Licks. I can't wait to return! They offer a solid selection of ice cream, hard and soft frozen yogurt, dairy-free ice cream, sorbet, sundaes, splits, ice cream sandwiches, and so much more! If you're in a hurry, they do offer tubs of ice cream to-go that are already packed and ready to enjoy at home! For those looking to satisfy that sweet tooth but not in the mood for ice cream will find a solid selection of cold brew, lattes, mochas, hot chocolate, espresso, cappuccino, frappes, smoothies, and much more! They also offer a few dairy-free beverage options. If you're a fan of ice cream cake like I am, this is the spot! They offer hand-packed ice-cream cakes! You can customize them with up to two flavors! They have a solid selection in terms of flavors and multiple size options. They also have a small selection of pies and cupcakes! We swung by for dessert on July 4th. The shop was busy, but they were efficient and moved the line quickly. The flavor options are massive! They have a plethora of flavors, there is sure to be a flavor for everyone! They also offer numerous cone options! You can go with the tried-and-true sugar cone or waffle cone. Or, you could be adventurous and get the chocolate-dipped waffle cone or the chocolate and sprinkle waffle cone! We decided to grab a tub of the "Mint Chip" to take back to enjoy while watching the Fireworks. Be sure to ask for cones, they do offer them for sale and in packs of 10 if you are getting multiple flavors. The ice cream is perfect. It's more solid than soft. I'm not a fan of softer ice cream, so their ice cream hit just right. It's incredibly rich and delicious. The mint chip was incredible! I can't wait to try the plethora of other flavor choices! The mint was just right, not too overpowering. The chocolate bits/shavings were plentiful in the ice cream. It was also white in color, which you do not typically see with a "mint-chocolate-chip" style ice cream. I don't mind, that likely means they aren't using any colorings. I cannot confirm this, it's just a guess. The more natural the better! The ice cream is handmade and they have been in business since 1981! They got their start in Jamaica Plain, which is a neighborhood in Boston. They have multiple locations in the Boston area and is a must-try if you have a sweet tooth! I look forward to visiting again and making my way thru the plethora of delicious flavors! I'm also hoping I at least will get one of their ice-cream cakes for my birthday! It's hard to find a place that makes fresh ice cream cakes!
We returned after being away for many years, we were so excited to be there. It brought back so many memories with our little kids, this was the first time bringing our daughter back. We walked up to the counter and asked if they still had oatmeal chip hard yogurt.? The worker with the green hair (in a snappy voice) said if it's not on the menu we don't have it! oh geez, welcome to Boston I said to my daughter. Talk about Buzzkill. So I ordered something for my daughter and left. We came back the next night, again no one in line and the same worker with the green hair was there. We walked right up to the counter and she said "we're not ready to help you yet, hang on." and she walked in the back. Not impressed! As we were standing there, looking at the menu, we saw oatmeal hard frozen yogurt on the board wth? Wow. Super disappointing that this employee wouldn't even respond when we asked about a flavor, especially because she knew that we were returning after many years. Employees need to understand their actions can really affect the business. When people go out to dinner or out to get ice cream, they're looking for an experience. The employees represent not only the business, but their actions and the way they handle themselves directly impact sales. We were staying close by in a friend's home. Three nights in a row and three nights where the same green hair employee was snappy, she stormed around, was unpleasant, unhelpful and rude. I mean, this is a happy ice cream place how bad can it be?
Open late, plenty of indoor seating, and has a bench outside for outdoor seating? Incredible stuff. I haven't been here in a minute and now I've found myself here twice in the last two weeks because it's one of the only (good) ice cream spots in the area open late. So clutch. Their coffee Oreo is also my all-time favorite coffee Oreo. Add some rainbow sprinkles on top and life is good. read more
Came here for a sweet treat on a weekday and the place was pretty busy. Line was a good length so we waited a bit and while there, I saw a deal if you downloaded the app so I did that while queuing for my turn. For some reason, when paying, I learned that the deal didn't work for undisclosed reasons. Okay, so I downloaded the app for no reason due to misinformation? A little disappointing. The ice cream was fine. Tasted good, but generic so nothing ground-breaking. Overall, it was a fine spot for dessert, but the app incident put a sour taste in my mouth. I probably wouldn't return in the future. read more
I see a lot of people say JP Lick's isn't that good, but to me it's easily the best ice cream in Boston. A must try whenever I'm in town. Their texture is elite, they have great flavors, and also unique flavors. Absolutely nothing to hate on in my opinion. read more

Honestly, the best experience I've had at JP Licks. I've been to the Newbury one a few times and haven't had the best customer service but here, everyone is so polite and upbeat, even half an hour before close when I'd expect people to be tired. My scooper Lucy was really sweet, and even though I wasn't sure what I wanted, she made me the best sundae I've ever had in my life. It was creamy and delicious and the toppings she chose were amazing. Would recommend this JP Licks, the ice cream is great and the people are even better! read more

If you're going to get ice cream, just commit to breaking your diet a little. Because I deeply regret going with the low-fat coffee chip ice cream. Icy, gritty, and lacking flavor. The saving grace was I later had the mint cookies and cream (full fat!) and that was much better. Creamy and smooth, but also nothing spectacular. The waffle cone was good and held up while the ice cream was quickly melting. Having JP Licks made me appreciate more small-batch ice cream shops that are all over California. The staff was quick and we were in and out fast. Lots of room for social distancing and sanitary measures were taken, which is already appreciated during these times. read more

Really sleek and minimalist ambiance. Line moves very quickly and they are appropriately staffed. Ice cream is good with lots of options that you can't go wrong with. read more
Update as of 11/2/19: Pros: -Rotating monthly flavors keep things interesting -Good service Cons: -Pricey ($4.95 for a small, 1 scoop; $4.27 for a kiddie) -Long lines in the summer -Bit of a fly issue near the sauces and the tables -- Chocolate Hazelnut (October flavor) This is the best flavor I've had from JP Licks--it has a thicker consistency and tastes like frozen Nutella. I wish they'd make this a standard flavor! Chocolate Chunk Brownie Sundae ($9.30) Given the cost of the individual components: chocolate chunk brownie ($2.75) + 2 scoops of ice cream ($6.00) + hot fudge, chocolate chips, and whipped cream (upwards of $1.30), it seemed like a good deal to get all this for $9.30. Unfortunately, the brownie was not our favorite (one of us thought it tasted like fish?) and I'm not a fan of their milk chocolate hot fudge--it seems overly heavy/rich. The whipped cream is pretty standard. Another letdown was the ice cream: we had the Cookies & Cake Batter which to me tasted exactly like Cookies & Cream and the Cookies & Dough which also tasted exactly like Cookies & Cream. I was very sad that there were barely any cookie dough pieces in Cookies & Dough and the ones I saw were miniscule. I wish they'd up the cookie dough chunks in this flavor (and any cookie dough flavor). Previous review from 3/26/15 (back in the dark days where I thought froyo was superior to ice cream): I really wish they'd expand their hard frozen yogurt selection. Having switched from ice cream to froyo recently, I long for chocolate fudge brownie or cookie dough but have to settle for their Chocolate Chip Cookie hard frozen yogurt, a vanilla based froyo with lumps of crumbled chocolate chip cookie. It's good, but not as good as chocolate frozen yogurt or chunks of brownie/cookie dough! read more

Hi Laura,…
Came here after checking out some stores along the way. Shop: The decor is super cute and cow themed. This was our first (definetly not our last) time grabbing a quick dessert here. There was a line just out the door when we arrived so we knew it would be good and hoped it would be worth waiting for. Spoiler alert, it was! They have indoor and outdoor seating. It was easier to find benches nearby to sit and eat even on a busy night so I was surprised. Service: We waited in line maybe 10 minutes on a Friday night that was not bad at all! We were served quickly and as it was our first time the server was great at explaining what my options were. Dessert: I got the cookies and cream ice cream in a medium cup with a warmed up brownie on the side when I tell you it's melt in your mouth sweetness absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the mint chocolate chip and it was drenched in artificial green coloring which we had never seen and appreciated! We had our eye on the many other options like bday ice cream cakes (for the future), cheesecake brownies, cupcakes, etc there's some type of dessert for everyone. I plan to return with my family as there was dairy free options too! Price: Just like there is something for everyone there's a lot of reasonably priced options to choose from as well. If you're visiting or looking for a place to go on date night try this! read more

I know J.P. Licks is pretty popular for their ice cream, but we honestly think it is just average and quite expensive for what you're getting. We were in need of a drink so stopped by to try their matcha latte. It was a disappointing experience as the matcha flavor was almost non-existent and the drink pretty much tasted like milk and not much else.. Ice cream: 3.5/5 Matcha latte: 2/5 read more
Busy on a weeknight, JP Licks gets a pretty good draw from a bunch of restaurants in the area plus the movie theater across the street. It was quite busy this evening and that's fine with me. A brief wait before I chose the "maple butter walnut," which was tasty with maple flavor mixed through and crunchy walnuts. "Small" is a decent portion. There is seating inside and out, but most folks seem to take it to go and walk with their cones. read more

What an awesome ice cream spot! This was my first time at a JP Licks, they don't have them in South Florida. I walked in at about 8pm on a Wednesday and the place was surprisingly packed! Staff was helpful and patiently waited for us to make a decision, they probably do this a lot since there's so many uniqure flavors. Before I made this difficult decision I tried some of the featured flavors - ube, negative chip, squirrel nut zipple (peanut butter w/ peanuts & caramel). I decided to get the sugar cone with regular chocolate chip and sea salted pineapple which sounds strange but it was a perfect combination of sweet & salty! My friend got the squirrel nut zipple and brownie brownie batter. Tasty! We used a buy one, get one free coupon so it came to about $6 for our sugar cones with two scoops! We couldn't finish our ice cream the staff gave us a cup so we could enjoy it later. It's a little expensive but the quality and flavors are very good! I'll definitely bring my family here when I visit Boston again. read more
JP Licks is one of the best, and most popular, ice cream places in Boston. They also have a great free customer rewards program where you can get a free small sundae on your birthday and on the anniversary of your sign-up. I came in today to redeem my free sundae, and it worked very well. We ordered a small sundae (ordinarily $6.50 for 1 scoop, $7.50 for 2 scoops, with your choice of two toppings + whipped cream); since it was their free rewards sundae, we were given the one scoop option. They had a fantastic chocolate hazelnut flavor today as one of their monthly flavors. The ice cream was rich and creamy, and tasted much like Nutella with the strong hazelnut chocolate taste. We also got waffle cone pieces (these were stale, unfortunately), cookie dough, and the whipped cream on top. After having been a loyal patron of JP Licks for many years, I have noticed that their sundae portions have crept downward and their prices have crept upward over the last year or two (you used to be able to get 2 scoops for ~$6, with the addition of a chocolate or caramel fudge sauce), but it was still delicious. read more
A Boston staple. Located on a street with many restaurants, it's the perfect option for dessert after dinner. Especially because they're open late! Cute cow decor everywhere and a lot of seating. We came here on a late Friday night and waited about 15 minutes to be served. Lots of ice cream options, several of which are accommodating for dietary restrictions. The person scooping our ice cream said that the almond coconut chip was their favorite, so that's what I got. One scoop is a little pricey (about $5) but it is really big! I couldn't finish it myself. The ice cream is rich and smooth and had whole almonds inside of it. read more

FOOD: 7.5/10 AMBIENCE: 8/10 SERVICE: 8.5/10 RECOMMENDATION: cookies n cream I got the cookies n cream and fruity pebbles cereal milk which tasted like any other ice cream place I have been. I have yet to find an ice cream place to impress me. Ice cream is just ice cream to me. Nothing too impressive. Please lmk if you guys know anywhere with exceptionally good ice cream that will wow me. read more
