Came here for a sweet treat on a weekday and the place was pretty busy. Line was a good length so we waited a bit and while there, I saw a deal if you downloaded the app so I did that while queuing for my turn. For some reason, when paying, I learned that the deal didn't work for undisclosed reasons. Okay, so I downloaded the app for no reason due to misinformation? A little disappointing. I grew up on JP Licks, and this location is a classic! Service is always exceptional - the place is pretty much always packed in the summer with a line out the door, but the employees have found a strategy that moves at rocket speed, it's pretty impressive. Double scoop Black Raspberry and Salted Caramel Infused Coffee (~$7): both on the creamier side. Raspberry didn't taste like that fake flavoring or anything but did lean towards huckleberry in a good way. The mint was just right, not too overpowering. The chocolate bits/shavings were plentiful in the ice cream. It was also white in color, which you do not typically see with a "mint-chocolate-chip" style ice cream. I don't mind, that likely means they aren't using any colorings. I cannot confirm this, it's just a guess. The more natural the better! The ice cream is handmade and they have been in business since 1981! They got their start in Jamaica Plain, which is a neighborhood in Boston. They have multiple locations in the Boston area and is a must-try if you have a sweet tooth! So I ordered something for my daughter and left. We came back the next night, again no one in line and the same worker with the green hair was there. Employees need to understand their actions can really affect the business. When people go out to dinner or out to get ice cream, they're looking for an experience. The employees represent not only the business, but their actions and the way they handle themselves directly impact sales. We were staying close by in a friend's home. Three nights in a row and three nights where the same green hair employee was snappy, she stormed around, was unpleasant, unhelpful and rude. Honestly, the best experience I've had at JP Licks. I've been to the Newbury one a few times and haven't had the best customer service but here, everyone is so polite and upbeat, even half an hour before close when I'd expect people to be tired. My scooper Lucy was really sweet, and even though I wasn't sure what I wanted, she made me the best sundae I've ever had in my life. I love JP licks! This location is conveniently located in Coolidge corner so it's easy to stop by after watching a show at the theatre or after dinner. My favorites are the Cookies and Cream, Brownie Brownie Batter, Cookies and Cake Batter, Maple Butter Walnut, Salted Caramel Cookies and Cream, and Cookie Dough. Besides ice cream, they have an extensive menu that includes soft serve yogurt, no sugar added yogurt sorbet, low fat yogurt, frappes, treats for dogs, ice cream soda, ice cream float, smoothies, dairy free drinks, make at home Kits, cakes, hot chocolate, and tea so they have something for everyone! read more

Chocolate Chunk Brownie Sundae ($9.30) Given the cost of the individual components: chocolate chunk brownie ($2.75) + 2 scoops of ice cream ($6.00) + hot fudge, chocolate chips, and whipped cream (upwards of $1.30), it seemed like a good deal to get all this for $9.30. Unfortunately, the brownie was not our favorite (one of us thought it tasted like fish?) and I'm not a fan of their milk chocolate hot fudge--it seems overly heavy/rich. The whipped cream is pretty standard. Another letdown was the ice cream: we had the Cookies & Cake Batter which to me tasted exactly like Cookies & Cream and the Cookies & Dough which also tasted exactly like Cookies & Cream. I was very sad that there were barely any cookie dough pieces in Cookies & Dough and the ones I saw were miniscule. I wish they'd up the cookie dough chunks in this flavor (and any cookie dough flavor). Dessert: I got the cookies and cream ice cream in a medium cup with a warmed up brownie on the side when I tell you it's melt in your mouth sweetness absolutely delicious! My boyfriend had the mint chocolate chip and it was drenched in artificial green coloring which we had never seen and appreciated! I particularly love this location as it is situated right in Coolidge Corner... making it a great place to treat yourself to some delicious ice cream after watching a movie, grocery shopping, browsing the Brookline Book Smith bookstore, or after eating at the many places nearby!! During my last visit, I got a Salted Caramel Cookies 'n Cream frappe and found it to be pretty good. Definitely more cookies 'n cream than salted caramel, but I found the combination to be unique. Just keep in mind that this place is always busy, so finding a table can be a challenge. I also found some of the staff not the most personable, which all together knocks down 1 star from my original rating. What an awesome ice cream spot! This was my first time at a JP Licks, they don't have them in South Florida. I walked in at about 8pm on a Wednesday and the place was surprisingly packed! Staff was helpful and patiently waited for us to make a decision, they probably do this a lot since there's so many uniqure flavors. Before I made this difficult decision I tried some of the featured flavors - ube, negative chip, squirrel nut zipple (peanut butter w/ peanuts & caramel). I decided to get the sugar cone with regular chocolate chip and sea salted pineapple which sounds strange but it was a perfect combination of sweet & salty! My friend got the squirrel nut zipple and brownie brownie batter. Tasty! We used a buy one, get one free coupon so it came to about $6 for our sugar cones with two scoops! We couldn't finish our ice cream the staff gave us a cup so we could enjoy it later. It's a little expensive but the quality and flavors are very good! They also have a great free customer rewards program where you can get a free small sundae on your birthday and on the anniversary of your sign-up. I came in today to redeem my free sundae, and it worked very well. We ordered a small sundae (ordinarily $6.50 for 1 scoop, $7.50 for 2 scoops, with your choice of two toppings + whipped cream); since it was their free rewards sundae, we were given the one scoop option. They had a fantastic chocolate hazelnut flavor today as one of their monthly flavors. The ice cream was rich and creamy, and tasted much like Nutella with the strong hazelnut chocolate taste. We also got waffle cone pieces (these were stale, unfortunately), cookie dough, and the whipped cream on top.
