So many different options - it's a bit overwhelming! Not only that, but the ice cream feels fresh as well, but according to what I've heard - some options are maybe toooo fresh. I've heard that the mint felt like they were eating a literal mint leaf which seems a bit too much. The place is overall quite cute. I wish there were more seating options which is especially felt when people are just trying to enjoy ice cream and not be in the cold outside during the winter. The service was nice and they were down to earth. The ice cream was also quite good! The strawberry flavor was better and fresher than what I had expected. My mind isn't completely blown away, but I would recommend this place to others if they're looking for a nice treat in the area. read more

Super busy for late night on a cold Thursday but there was no line, just no more tables inside available. Many different flavor options. Tried the baklava which tasted just like baklava. I recommend getting the kiddie scoop as it's still a good portion size. Definitely want to come back to try their other flavors read more

A local on the T recommended this local ice desk shop. My daughter ordered a scoop of the strawberry ice cream with real berries inside. My wife got the peppermint non-dairy one. My daughter loved hers. Overall, it was a fine ice cream but not earth shattering. There are places to sit and a clean restroom in the back. read more

Customer service was lovely! They were very patient with me as I was a first timer. I asked for samples and they gladly gave me some. The quality is very rich and creamy, as well as sweet. So if you have a sweet tooth this is a place worth trying out. However, it is pretty pricey. For one scoop of ice cream it's about $6 total. I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so I could pass on their ice cream in the future. Again, everything was great, it just comes down to preference. Based on my experience, I rate it a 4/5 because customer service was great! 1 star off because of what you get for the price. read more

The selection of flavors makes me count my blessings!!! There were so many to choose from. There's also a selection of different cones and cups to choose from as well. I tried the Dubai Chocolate this time ... I'd say it's such an interesting combo of caramel, chocolate, and pistachio! The texture of it is so good. I wish I had a second stomach to eat more. The service was kind and patient with my eagerness to sample a few flavors. The ceiling is quite high, making it feel spacious in spite of the limited seating. I love the Hudson location but was disappointed the most recent time I came to the Cambridge location-- I feel like the quality is different. My friend's salted caramel was burnt (sugar was burnt) and his hot fudge tasted burnt as well. The Dubai chocolate was named best by Boston Magazine 2025 so I got it sight unseen (without trying a sample) and was disappointed - it has whole pistachios vs. the shaved pieces in toffee in the chocolate bars. If you like pistachios (which I don't), you might like it though, but I wouldn't call it Dubai chocolate-like. My other friend got the Caramel Apple, which she said tasted more like salted caramel, with caramel syrup, which also tasted burnt. The coffee ice cream was delicious-- tasted like espresso. I like their sugar cones too. Service was good. read more

Didnt find anything special with this ice cream, (had vanilla bourbon and cake batter with rainbow sprinkles) and 2 scoops for $9 before tip was outrageous in my opinion. Restaurant was clean and staff was smiley so that's a win. read more

Excellent ice cream flavors - easily one of the top places I'd bring out-of-town friends and family. I will say that several of the "tap" flavors we got trended on the extremely sweet side, and I'm someone with a massive sweet tooth, so much so that I should probably get a check-up. For me to say something is too sweet is a good sign that if you're someone who prefers the Asian-dessert side of sweet, this may be overwhelming. For instance, the Dubai chocolate flavor, while laden with pistachios and chunks of the Dubai chocolate bar with the crunchy kataifi pastry, ended up tasting a little one-note after a few bites. Plus, it had a strong spice note that punched through all the other flavors that I couldn't put a finger on, maybe star anise? Of the three flavors we got (Dubai chocolate, NewtellaRoche, and baklava), the Newtella was the overwhelming crowd favorite. If you want to eat the childhood classic of Ferrero Rocher in ice cream form, this is the ticket. The pints are definitely not cheap. I recommend checking the prepacked display case they have by the entrance because those flavors are $9, whereas the ones packed in front of you are a whopping $12. Whole Foods also sells the pints for $9. We came in during a holiday weekend afternoon and the shop was blissfully empty so we were able to sample to our hearts' content. read more

This is some of the best ice cream in Massachusetts. I got 3 samples and loved all of them. It was very hard to choose a flavor. My mom and I both got the tres leches because it was so good. They don't skimp on the mix ins. They have more interesting and unique flavors as well as all the classics. Definitely come here if you haven't yet. read more

Stopped by with some friends and I was impresssed by the unique ice cream flavors available. I got the tres leches ice cream in a kiddie cup, which I think was something like $6 or $7 with a tip (I could be wrong). The ice cream was very good. It really embodied the taste of tres leches and there were small bits of cake in there as well. The kiddie size is a good anount if you just want a little bit of ice cream, but of course prices around Boston can be ridiculous. The store itself was nice. Best. Boston. Ice cream. I don't know how I spent 4 years in college without ever trying this place. The staff were so friendly and patient when it came to trying different flavors, and they had so much nice seating outside. The ice cream? UNREAL! I got Milk n Cookies and PB Oreo, and both were so perfectly chunky when it came to the cookie pieces. The base tasted so real, as some ice creams can just taste artificial and sickening. I'd come here every night if I could. You MUST come here at least once (or a few times) in your life!!!! read more

I heard that New City Microcreamery was pretty highly rated, so we came to check it out. Upon entering, I enjoyed the vibe of the store. The menu was pretty extensive as they offer not only ice cream scoops, but drinks such as coffee too. I liked the variety of flavors that they offered -- they have some flavors that are seasonal. We were able to sample some flavors before making a decision. I felt like the texture was a little off, kind of like it had an icy consistency rather than creamy. Regardless, I liked the flavors we got, and I would come back to try some of the other flavors or menu items. read more

A must-visit ice cream shop with so many unique flavors! And they allow samples as well, which I very much appreciate. I have tried their baklava (decent amount of baklava pieces) and usually get that. However, this time I decided to try tres leches which is one of my favorite desserts. And I now have a new favorite flavor!! It was creamy, not too sweet, with flavors of butterscotch and caramel. The workers are always nice and willing to give recommendations. There are only a few tables but you can sit outside (when it's not too cold). I will be back for sure! read more

Could eat huge amounts without getting tired. Just the right level of sweetness. I also loved that it melts slowly, giving me more time to eat it. Family discovered New City, and despite my imposed avoidance of sugar (not my natural state), I chose the smallest possible scoop size to try. There are many complex and fancy flavors--Dubai chocolate, which seems to be everywhere lately, was a new addition to their menu but I preferred a timeless classic: their version of mint chocolate chip and a personal childhood favorite. It's no wonder this is a popular neighborhood ice cream shop--the ice cream is almost intensely creamy: smooth, rich, with a noticeable absence of water crystals due to their flash-freezing process. I had hoped to return before an upcoming trip, but now it will be something to look forward to in a few weeks. Thanks, New City, for keeping the classics on the menu even when trends lean toward more elaborate choices. Don't think it goes unnoticed--it's deeply appreciated. Tip: Parking is central square difficult. Best to walk if it's not heat stroke weather. read more

Hear me out. If you have dietary restrictions, you may be fooled into getting sick. The allergens APPEAR to be listed, but then all of the scoopers are placed in a gross communal water bath in between scooping. I can't have gluten and I've been ill for almost 2 weeks since visiting. I already had the free samples unknowingly, so I decided on sunk cost and ate the ice cream. To be fair, it was effing delicious, so it's a shame that it's not accommodating to those of us with dietary needs and allergies. Worst part is the misrepresentation of safety practices. Good Nice place. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Huge variety and those I've never seen before Kudos. Not too sweet and just enough flavor to enjoy Bad. Consistency. Very icy. I mean it was like eating sand. I could tell there was a creamery back to it and if you let it melt in your mouth the feel softens but the first pass takes away from all the good. Probably water is getting added from the scoops or blenders having residual water left in them. Easy fix. Management should try that. Others noticed the ice too. I got Peanut butter banana fluff. Such a great spot! I went here late on a Saturday night and they were playing good music & had welcoming vibes. I knew I wanted a seasonal fall order but wasn't sure what to get. We like to stop in here when we are in the Cambridge area! The flavors do rotate and change, but no fret, if your favorite flavor is gone, they have a something else you can probably find that you like. They do allow tasting, so just ask one of the staff members if you can sample a flavor before you make your choice. Once we figure out which flavors we like we usually get a half pint of each and bring it home or eat it in the car. There are a few cafe style tables near the front of the shop and outdoor area you can also find a seat and enjoy the ice cream. The parking is meter parking and we've been lucky to usually find a spot somewhere out front after 1-2 rounds around the block. read more

I got there at 9 PM on a Saturday, and it was packed, but luckily, we found seats. They have free water. The ice cream is really rich; I liked the Tiramisu better than the Baklava. The total was $9, which I think is a fair price for the unique and rich flavors. read more

I went here with a group of 5 and we each tried a different flavor. They tasted fine but everything was freezer burnt. I liked the cannoli flavor the most out of everything we tried. It's not relaxing to eat inside at all super crammed, so make sure it's a nice day or be prepared to eat in your car. read more

Meeting up with a friend during her break from studying at nearby M.I.T., she was quick to suggest this place and I can see why. I always love the positive exciting atmosphere of an ice cream shop and definitely felt that here. They have an array of unique flavors and I decided on the tres leches ice cream. I will be dreaming about this ice cream as it was easily one of the best flavors I've ever had. What's better, this flavor includes bits of cake and I really can't say enough how much I loved it. This ice cream shop has a large variety of space themed artwork and an even larger selection of ice cream flavors. Very dangerous if I lived close by. None the less I might keep this in mind the next time I am around. One mighty chocolate pb mashup - I do like my PB and chocolate ice cream and this one was no exception. It was a good homogenous mix of PB flavors with chocolate ribbons. Would recommend if you can consume peanuts. read more

It was a great summer night walking around Central Square. I came across a long line of people waiting for some ice cream outside of this store. Ice cream sounded great so I waited on line. Everything went by quickly. They offer their standard ice cream flavors and a couple in house specials. I ordered the Grasshopper which was two scoops in a cup. Some people ordered more or opted for an ice cream shake. There is a seating area outside for you to relax and enjoy your ice cream. What a surprise! The Mint Chip was made with fresh mint, not mint extract - so refreshing and vibrant. And the Chipotle Mezcal expertly blended in a sweet cream base was incredibly inventive -- smoky, sweet, barely spicy and perfectly balanced. The friendly, enthusiastic staff also stood out. The best ice cream place in Central Square. I used to like Toscanini's too, but ever since their owner sued Cambridge to remove bike lanes, I boycott it. I love cake batter ice cream and this one is bang-on. It literally tastes like cake batter--my partner joked it even has that "raw flour" taste, and he's not wrong--and comes with a liberal amount of sprinkles. Their seasonal tres leches ice cream is also delicious. You really can't go wrong here. They have a vegan cookies and cream that my vegan friends adore. read more

I ordered the mocha chip expecting a coffee ice cream with chocolate chips, but my eyes absolutely lit up when I saw the "chocolate chips" are actually the frozen liquid chips that Baskin Robbins & Thrifty uses (IYKYK). I'm from the west coast and haven't been able to find any ice cream since moving to Boston that uses these chips! The mocha flavor itself wasn't super strong; I would have preferred a little more flavor, but the chocolate chips made up for it. I would give the ice cream itself a 4/5, but man is it pricey! I ordered a kiddie cup which is about one scoop, maybe a little less (imagine the size of a Starbucks pup cup lol) and it was over $5. There is plenty of seating outside but not much inside. Definitely a good stop for a splurge, but can't say I'd be inclined to come too often due to the price. read more

The staff was friendly and I quite enjoyed the chocolate cookies and cream that I got, which had lots of cookie chunks in it too. However, I didn't feel like I got that much ice cream with the 1 scoop that I bought. They also used a scale to weigh your ice cream, which I've never seen an ice cream shop do and is a bit weird. It feels stingy, as other reviews have mentioned ("micro" creamery indeed). Inside, it's clean and there's a bit of seating, with more seating in the public square outside. In all, as much as I liked my ice cream, I'd probably go somewhere else or buy a pint from a store. read more

Staff was pretty nice and quick, although the quality of the food left something to be desired - the dough for the taiyaki we got was much too crunchy and burnt. When watching the staff make more, it looked similar as it was too dark and not very fluffy. The ice cream and presentation were fine, but the fish shell unfortunately fell flat for me. This spot isn't bad, but I probably wouldn't return - overpriced for what it is and not great quality.

Yes, it's big. Yes, the toppings are only on the ends (but you can eat it strategically to make the toppings last through most of the experience). Maybe I have too much of a sweet tooth but unlike a lot of reviewers I did not find it to be TOO sweet, just the right amount paired with a bitter coffee beverage and split between two people. I've never had a cannoli for breakfast before, but darn if it wasn't a highlight of the trip.
