Stumbled upon Blackbird Doughnuts as they were in the only building we could find with a public restroom. I am glad we stopped in because it led us to find these incredible doughnuts. I asked the employee working if they were a chain and she explained they are a chain local to Boston. She also shared the doughnuts are made fresh every morning. They had a display case with the donuts featured and they sure looked great. We were pleased to find the actual donuts looked even better than the display! Both of our donuts were huge and the frosting/filling proportions were generous. The menu consists of classics and then a featured monthly selection. I picked a classic doughnut: chocolate sprinkle. My husband went with a may selection: cherry jam Bismarck. We both loved our selections. My husband said cherry filling is rare and the flavor was spot on. To be honest my only regret after how delicious we found the donuts to be is not getting more. read more

Really good place for donuts, coffee and breakfast. Sometimes there is a line, and you will have to wait a little bit for your food. They open at 8 AM, but they don't necessarily have everything ready at 8 AM sharp, so you will have to wait. If you are in a rush, better off go to another place nearby that opens earlier and get out of the door. read more

Good variety of donuts. They also have gluten free options! Service was quick and plenty of seating.

Really unique and tasty doughnuts! Although even with all the seasonal selections, the namesake Blackbird doughnut was my favorite. Great coffee, too! read more

I ordered donuts and coffees. Coffee was really good actually, but they forgot part of my order and the donuts were super dry and kinda of chewy? Very bread-y donuts. Since it's primarily a donut shop and their donuts are dry, I would not go there for that again. I might grab a coffee from there in the future if it's convenient but definitely nothing special, especially when there are so many other amazing and local donut shops around! read more

In all honesty, I'm not much of a donut fan, but if I had to have a donut, it would be one of the ones from Blackbird. Their donuts are nice and cakey and don't feel overly greasy. However, they are on the heavier side, so they're not the kind of donuts you can have a bunch of in one seating. I haven't been to the actual donut shop, as I tried them at an event, so I can't comment on the service, but I'd imagine it's a pretty casual spot. Great option if you'd like to cater them for an event. The best part about these donuts is the various flavors. I love having the ability to pick from some of the more unique ones, especially if they have toppings. However, you can't go wrong with a classic vanilla or chocolate cake donut. I'd like to visit the donut shop in person at some point! read more

Solid donuts - not overly sweet and inside is almost bread-like. I didn't feel gross afterwards which I sometimes do with greasy and overly sweetened donuts. There are lots of interesting flavors to try and we got the honey blackberry which was great. They are a bit pricey at $4.5 a pop though. read more

Tried the cherry cobbler doughnut and it was alright? Not bad but a little dry and underwhelming in flavor.

Incredible doughnuts and great service! The Harvard Square location is super convenient and the staff is always friendly. Every flavor I've tried has been a hit. It's my go-to spot whenever I need a sugar fix. read more

Staff was friendly and super quick. This is a stall in the middle of Smith Campus Center which is so spacious so the ambiance is always great. They really got lucky with such a great location, especially since it's right next to the rooftop garden. I got the matcha cheesecake, which is filled with matcha and cream cheese creme and has cheesecake crumble on top. The donut was very fluffy and it was good but I was a little disappointed. It was a bit too oily and too sweet. I couldn't taste the matcha at all, but I could see it. The creme was very sour? My friend and I kept wondering if they added lemon in addition to the cream cheese because it's not just the sourness of the cream cheese. Overall, nice to have a treat once in a while but the flavor might be a hit or a miss. read more

I've been here twice with friends and so far I've tried the Vanilla Glazed donut, Blackbird donut, the Everything bagel donut, the Ice cream cake donut, and the Mango Mojito donut. The classic flavors (the Vanilla Glazed donut and Blackbird donut) were slightly underwhelming. I liked the Vanilla Glazed donut for its airy and light texture, but I felt as if the Blackbird donut wasn't worth the price since it was too dense and significantly smaller than the other donuts even though they were the same price. You could get these flavors elsewhere and be just as satisfied. I was more satisfied with the unique donuts. One of my favorites was the Everything Bagel donut. The dough was fluffy and soft to bite into. Eating it can be a bit messy when eating since there are Everything Bagel toppings that fall off when you bite into it. The cream cheese filling itself was very tasty. I found that the Ice Cream Donut was sweet and tasty. I liked the chocolate filling that accompanied the donut. Although the filling was nice, it became overwhelming after a few bites and would spill out while biting into the donut. Something unfortunate is how they package their donuts. I wish that the donuts were put into a small box instead of a paper bag as the donuts get squished and stuck to the sides of the bag if you don't eat them right away. Overall, the donuts were alright, but not amazing. Worth giving this place a try though for its unique variety of flavors! read more

Good donuts! Even better the next day when you warm them up in the oven. It's pretty cool that they have different types of donuts to try every month but I'm from out of town. I still signed up for the rewards program for their monthly notices so I can scream about these donuts. My mom really loved the cookies and cream donut! My favorite was the lavender and lemon. The service was great. I only wish they weren't so expensive so I could eat more of them. read more

This is a decent spot Pros: + Tons of flavorful donuts - gotta try the Mexican Hot chocolate + Decent amount of seating + Frequent punch cards - unfortunately it's only based on visits. I wish they would do it based on the how many things you actually order though Cons: - A little pricey for the quality you are getting - No espresso based drinks read more

I tried two donuts: the toffee flavored and the blueberry muffin flavored. The toffee donut had a great texture, good dough, and frosting that was a bit sweeter than my liking, but overall a pleasant flavor. The blueberry muffin had a nice cakey dough, but I couldn't find out because of the ungodly amount of sugar crystals added to the top. I swear it could give a blue whale type 2 diabetes and I couldn't scrape it all off sadly... read more

I stopped in at the Smith Campus Center location and bought a Boston cream donut. Very tasty, not sickly sweet and no "heavy like a ton of bricks" feeling after eating it. It was delicious and a nice treat after I got my COVID booster and flu shot. I'd love to come back and try some other flavors sometime. Very convenient location in the Smith Campus Center at Harvard. The person who helped me at the counter was very friendly. read more

Their donuts are aight! I got their Purple Cow -- a chocolate cake with raspberry frosting and chocolate chip; fluffy and super tasty. There were a couple of donuts that shouldn't be made at all, like the Chocolate Chip donut topped with actual potato chips *shudders*. Their cold brew was great, affordable and complemented the donuts well. They have every milk type available including almond. Also, make sure to get their rewards card. -- Your 10th drink will be free! read more

Was told by Emily to give it a shot and she was dead right. Tried toffee and blueberry. Toffee was perfection, wonderful glaze on a freshly made donut. Tried the blueberry variety first which was good but not spectacular, probably not freshly made. Toffee was amazing. Not inexpensive, two for $7.50. read more

Ok so I heard so much hype about this place that maybe I had higher expectations going in. Yes the place and ambiance is great. Service not so much. Its not courteous or timely. Donuts are good and yes they have some interesting not so regular flavors. So that part is great. Tried their tea which was ok too. Me and my friend tried their Mango mojito and ice cream cake donuts which were both great. Its right in Smiths student center so that's a plus too. read more

This is my first time in Boston and I'm hanging out here at Harvard. Overall, the donuts are ok. I got the peppermint chocolate donut and another donut that had cream filling and jam on it. I thought the donuts were kind of gimmicky. But I'm a person who is as old-fashioned as it gets with food. They are good but there's just a lot of stuff on them which makes it kind of hard to eat. The staff is very nice and the place is very small but it works. Overall, it's an ok experience. read more

Went to Harvard square the other day. I was doing a mini Burger tasting tour with my son. There is a bunch of burger joints in Harvard Square. So after our fill of Burgers we wanted something sweet. I always wanted to give Blackbird Doughnuts a try. It was right around the corner from where we where so we went in. We suddenly found ourselves in College Millennial Central. Blackbird Doughnuts is tucked inside this. I must say very architecturally cool Lounge Study Building. As for Blackbird Doughnuts itself I was not impressed at all, $3.25 each for doughnuts we had only about 5 flavors to choose from. The Coffee was well just average Coffee. I was all so boring the space it was in just made me want to fall asleep. We just wanted to get out of there. Again just a Borefest... nothing special here. Just go to Dunkin Doughnuts. That is all! read more

Chocolate sprinkle doughnut is $4.5, why? I would buy 2x more if this was reasonable. Why are so many places, this place included, wiling to give up so many sales in favor of exorbitant pricing? Makes no sense. This is a college campus not rodeo drive. Get with it, drop the da*n prices so students can afford a simple doughnut or gtfo of the area. read more

The doughnuts here are incredible. There are some really fascinating flavors like the everything bagel doughnut (it's got a classic everything topping with cream cheese on the INSIDE) and my personal favorite, the sticky bun (super sweet, but really delightful combo of cinnamon and cream cheese)! Blackbird also serves two types of doughnuts, regular and cake, which are made with a cake batter. They're a little too thick for my taste, but definitely worth a try if you've never had one before! Be aware that this is NOT a standalone store - it's a little counter inside of the Smith Campus Center, a public study space that many tourists and students frequent. This means that there are rarely any seats available, so be mindful if you're coming by at a busy time. I'm also not a huge fan of their coffee. There aren't many options, but that being said, it's not a coffee shop! read more

Best donut I've ever had in my life!!! Better than any that I've had in Chicago! Highly recommend cookie dough (huge really chocolate cookie dough on top with lots of cookie crumbs. It's cake dough but it's super light and soft) and everything bagel (savory yeast raised doughnut with cream cheese in between). Def will come back to try other donuts!!! read more

Yeast doughnuts are airy and pillowy. A lot of cream inside the Everything Bagel Doughnut. Winter citrus was okay, too. But I don't like the Candy Cotton Blood Orange doughnut, which is cake doughnut. It's too sweet and a bit soggy (maybe too much oil or sugar). Maybe I should have tried their Boston Cream since I'm in Boston! But...really not a fan of custard cream. Decent coffee for the money, large size for just $2.5. And friendly people working there. read more

Everything with Blackbird is hit or miss. Either the staff are friendly or you're getting glared at. Either the online ordering works or it's down for weeks at a time without explanation. Either there's an interesting vegan offering or everything is just gross sloppy fruit stuff for months on end. Altogether it feels like they rode the tail end of the donut wave, and every time you bite into a donut that looks fresh but tastes like they just took the 7/11 shrink wrap off of it you know that the trend is very much over with. read more

Great service, the donuts were tasty and very cake like. If you like that type of donut then this place is for you. I wish they had more drink choices or variety, not sure if it's a limitation of this location or the main one as well. The girl that helped us was very sweet and I formative even of the flavor questions asked. She made great suggestions and was great at interacting with customers. A+ for service read more

Inventive, well executive donuts. Sticky Bun - 4.5/5. Very sweet but a wonderful combo of cinnamon glaze with cream cheese mousse. Everything Bagel Donut - 3.5/5. Quite creative. Odd in that there is the classic everything topping and cream cheese on the inside. It feels like a lighter version of the bagel but not so original on taste. read more

I am a big fan of cake donuts! These definitely do not disappoint. They are moist and fluffy and the icing is delicious! I love their seasonal flavors- particularly the purple cow and the cookie dough one but today I was feeling something lighter so I went with the two classic cake donuts. They are a bit pricey but I wanted something just a little sweet and they met my expectations! Definitely not a place I would go every day or week due to the price but a nice treat and their location in Harvard square is very convenient. Can't wait to see the fall flavors! Tip- if you want them for dessert you have to grab them earlier in the day because they close at 6pm. read more

Stopped in for dessert after my friends and I grabbed lunch in Harvard Square. We shared the pumpkin cheesecake, vegan blueberry, and mocha chocolate donuts. All three were delicious! The pumpkin cheesecake was overflowing with a custard-like cream cheese filling. The mocha chocolate had a delightful cake like texture, and was topped with tiny chocolate chips. My favorite was probably the blueberry donut, actually. I was a bit reluctant to try this because it's vegan, but it had a light ginger flavor that was really unique and special. They also serve coffee and tea. The new Smith Center, where Blackbird Donuts is located, has plenty of seating. Perfect if you're looking for a nice coffee shop to read or do work! Then reward yourself with a nice donut or coffee. ;) read more

We made it just in time - kind of? We arrived around 10:30am and unfortunately their donuts with the heavy toppings were already sold out. Regardless, we were able to try many of their other flavors. We ordered the Java Berry Swirl, Sticky Bun, The Blackbird, Orange Mango Chili, and Lime Poppy. ALL were fantastic with bright flavors! Some notes, the sticky bun's filling is very sweet, so if you aren't the biggest sweet tooth I wouldn't recommend this one. As for the others, I preferred the cake donuts - very light and fluffy. I'd recommend getting here earlier if you want to have all the flavors available, but we didn't mind. read more

A MUST DO! THE DONUTS that singer Adele put on the map. She loves their Boston Cream Donuts. They have a few locations. This one is right across from Harvard University in Cambridge MA. in the Smith Campus Center. It is located in this really cool all glass modern interior surrounded by old brick buildings. The store is accessible by the T get off @ Harvard. It's situated only a few blocks from the train station. They also serve coffee & tea, soft serve & Ice Cream Sandwiches. Their Donuts are very Filling so we all Split a Box & had a taste of each. The Boston Cream & The Winter Citrus were the Standouts here. GREAT!!! Next time I come I'll try some of the other flavors including the Everything Donut. It used to be, you had to have mega bucks & be really rich to have the Good Life, not anymore. Donuts are my guilty pleasures. Heck, I don't even feel guilty eating them, so they're just pleasures. Having lived in Portland, ME, with easy access to the Holy Donut and Urban Sugar, I was determined to find a new favorite donut place when I moved to Boston. While it does not make it to my top three best donut places of all time, so far Blackbird's Boston creme is my favorite donut in Boston. I've tried a few other flavors, but none of them hit the right notes like the Boston creme did. The combination of airy dough, vanilla custard, and chocolate glaze is sinfully delicious. To top it off, the staff here is always friendly. My only reservation is the price. The donuts are big, but at $3 per piece it is not sustainable for daily consumption. read more

This is a kiosk-style store situated within the Smith Campus Center in Harvard Square, which makes it a good spot to get coffee/doughnuts while studying. I generally go here for coffee and it's actually a large quantity of really good coffee for decent prices. The doughnuts are decent, nothing mind-blowing but good overall. They do a nice classic vanilla glazed, and I really love their everything bagel doughnut -- brioche filled with whipped cream cheese and topped with toasted garlic, onion, sesame, and poppy seeds. It's an absolutely delicious sweet-but-also-kinda-savoury calorie bomb. Some of their other flavours are really inventive and interesting too (want to try the orange cranberry fritter, and the vegan lemon coconut). They have good vegan options. I don't love the dry caky texture of their cake doughnuts. (This may be a personal preference against cake ones, but they just weren't great). Really dense, really heavy and hard to finish. Go for the regular/brioche ones! They also do a good apple cider slushie and ice cream, too! read more

**Review is mostly for the coffee** Blackbird has some of the friendliest staff and best coffee in the square! It's not even too pricey with $2 for a small and $2.5 for a large hot coffee. They use a Fazenda blend, and provide you with a punch card so if you visit 10 times you'll get a free coffee or donut! I've never bought a donut but have tried some. They're known for inventive flavors like "Everything Bagel" or "PB&J" and definitely higher quality than Dunkin'. A great coffee/breakfast stop in the square. read more
