stopped by here for something sweet on a thursday afternoon. sadly, they were out of donuts and most pastries! i ended up getting a salted caramel chocolate chip cookie which was all right. in my opinion, it was over salted and wasn't anything to special. however, it was a huge cookie and the portion was worth the money. next time, i would definitely try some of the other pastries and the bread! other than that, the shop is small but cozy. service is kind too. loved the vibes here!

The bread is excellent. Inside is small and cute, perfect space for what they are selling. The customer service not so excellent. There a particular gentleman who works the register most days I come in. Today there was a "be back in 10 minutes" sign, which was fine. I pulled on the door to see if it was still locked after waiting about 5 minutes and he came to the door, stopped, looked me dead in the eyes and gave me the rudest look, then proceeded to unlock to door and be rather rude to me as I asked for my bread. I felt uncomfortable and was confused why he was irritated with me when he's the one who locked the door during open hours? I probably will not be returning here unless I see someone else working because I feel so uncomfortable.

Yum! stopped by on a Wednesday for their $3 sourdough special. It's a decent sized loaf, and the bread tastes super fresh. Had to freeze most of it to endure freshness, looking forward to enjoying it in future days!

Ordered: Donuts (Almond Joy, Maple Glazed, Pecan French Toast), Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie, Baby Spinach, Onion & Garlic Ciabatta Wow, you will not believe the size of these donuts! Definitely the largest donuts I've ever come across. They were a little too sweet for me though. Out of the three, the Almond Joy was my favorite! If you're a fan of the candy, you'll likely enjoy this donut. The cookie was soft, chewy, and had the perfect salted caramel flavor. Although the donuts and cookie thoroughly satisfied my sweet tooth, I have to say, the ciabatta was my favorite. It was soft on the inside, full of flavor, and a must-try! Although it was delicious on its own, it also pairs perfectly with a cheese spread. They also have several other kinds of bread, so I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Boston!

Finally made it in on a Saturday before they ran out of doughnuts! As someone who isn't really into cake donuts, I was really happy to see the assortment of yeast options. They were both pricey (~$4 iirc) but absolutely massive--the cream donut must've weighed like 2 lbs. They're a bit bready for yeasted donuts, but I quite liked it! Especially loved the texture of the cream donut, reminded me a bit of rice flour pastries with its bounciness. Have gotten bread here a couple times, again quite pricey and a liable to mold really quickly, but similarly to the donuts is a good splurge if you're wanting to treat yourself.

Donut-only review: 2/5 Pros: -6-10 fun donut flavors every Saturday! -Donuts are HUGE--biggest I've seen for donuts that only come in one size (and I've been to ~90 donut shops) -The awesome staff is super helpful and kind (they reserved a donut for me and happily answered all of my questions) -Parking is hard but there's a city lot not far -Frostings/creams are pretty good Cons: -Pricey @ $3.50-$4/donut -Potentially only yeast donuts, though possible cake donuts were sold out when I arrived -Dough is very bready/chewy, which I guess might be expected from a killer bread place, but it's not the light and fluffy texture I look for in a donut -- Boston Cream ($4.00) Perfectly round yeast donut filled with vanilla cream and topped with chocolate frosting. The best part of this was the light vanilla cream/pudding. The chocolate frosting was a bit too sweet, but the worst part is the dough which is bready/chewy. Cheescake Crumble(?) ($3.50) Yeast donut topped with cream cheese icing and a graham cracker(?) crumble. Because the frosting covered the whole donut we assumed it was filled but the frosting just covers the hole--no filling here. The cheescake icing is good but definitely rich. The crumble isn't crunchy but adds a nice texture. Not sure if I'd get another yeast donut here again due to the bready dough, but if they make cake donuts I'd give them a try.

Holy CRAP is this bakery amazing. I've only tried their incredible breads but I'd love to try their cookies and donuts and other goodness too. I discovered them at a small farmer's market near MIT. I got the chocolate and apple cinnamon loaf ($6 each). They are HUGE, and absolutely divine. Be forewarned though their loaves go moldy fairly quickly (makes sense - no preservatives, hot humid boston weather) so make sure you share and make some people really happy :) or freeze half for later!

    So many options!

So why would you want to bother going to When Pigs Fly when you can just buy their bread in the grocery? The sensory experience alone is worth the trip. There are about a dozen different glorious types of bread in loaves as well as yummy cookies, jams and if you have lived your life well you will arrive on a Saturday when they have salad plate size donuts. We are currently working our way through the different varieties of breads (& donuts!) but the olive and cranberry walnut are particular favorites of ours. You can't go wrong with any of the donuts, they are huge and the flavors creative and delicious. The staff is friendly and helpful, if you can't decide just ask them what they think, we haven't been led wrong yet. One trip to When Pigs Fly will have you falling back in love with carbs again.

The spot is known for their Persian spin on great classics, and many of the typical French offerings. I got to try their pistachio croissant and a black sesame latte. Both were very good. The croissant was excellent; dough was perfect, not overly sweet. Tons of pistachio on the inside. It's topped with a hefty amount of what tastes a bit like cream cheese (but it's probably something else, that's just what it reminds me of). Highly recommend trying it. The black sesame latte came recommended by the staff member. Also very good, nice unique flavor and made with in house syrup! I will say though, it was a little bit gritty as you got to the end of the latte. Theres also an area to sit outside and inside. All in all, an amazing spot that I'd love to visit again!

We fell in love with the pastries--each one with a unique Persian spin on flavor. My favorites are still the Kouign-Amann, Pain Aux Raisin, and the Feta-Za'atar and Orange Marzipan Scones. But the true jewel of La Saison is the Kuku Sabzi on Sea Salt Focaccia. It is unbelievably good. What makes La Saison even more special are the owners, Sarah and Soheil. Their warmth, creativity, and genuine care for their customers shine through in everything they do. You can feel their heart in every pastry and bread and every interaction. Nowhere to sit, so another challenge. Good selection of croissants and croissant-adjacent items like caneles and pain swisse. Friendly staff; no pretension. My first visit in well over a year on a late weekday morning tried a troika of chocolate-themed items. -- Chocolate Croissant: Not warm (and I wouldn't expect that past 9am), but very fresh feel, very slight greasiness on the bottom, plenty of flakiness on top, and decent fluffiness inside. A good bite, yielding plenty of croissant shrapnel, a light but pleasant buttery taste, and just the right amount of chocolate. A winner. -- Pain Swisse: This varied from others I've had, not having the typical stringiness around the perimeter that feels like raw pasta to the bite, but that was a plus. The bigger noticeable divergence was a much-lighter-than-typical custard presence inside, deferring to the dominant, high quality dark chocolate. The dough around it had good flavor and a nice light crunch, so whether central casting Pain Swisse or not, this satisfied. -- Chocolate Chip Cookie: An unusual rendition, with a dough darker than typical and also boasting some red tint hinting at red velvet. Soft, deliciously rich, and buttery, with the chocolate having a nice melt to it even late in the morning. Salt added some contrast without going overboard as some do. -- Coffee: High in temperature, acidity, viscosity, and flavor. A good match for their baked goods. Overall, still living up to the promise of the first visit, and taking some license with the classic recipes is fine by me with their high level of execution.

My husband and I got a latte and a cappuccino, and a pistachio cannoli to split. Both drinks were perfect, hot but not scalded, with robust espresso flavor. The cannoli, as expected, was fantastic. Yes, it's big. Yes, the toppings are only on the ends (but you can eat it strategically to make the toppings last through most of the experience). Maybe I have too much of a sweet tooth but unlike a lot of reviewers I did not find it to be TOO sweet, just the right amount paired with a bitter coffee beverage and split between two people. I've never had a cannoli for breakfast before, but darn if it wasn't a highlight of the trip.
