I mean it's 'When Pigs Fly', the bread is great. However, we did not like the customer service. There was a guy and girl working when we paid the visit. The gentleman who works the register was pretty rude when we asked questions about the bread and ruined our experience. We grabbed sourdough bread with some donuts (they sold Union Square donuts, not their own, which I found it odd.) I might return when I need good bread but probably not when he works there. I am a huge fan of When Pigs Fly bread because of all their fun flavors-- standouts include their sundried tomato which have pieces studded throughout and the baby spinach, onion and garlic which is perfect for an avocado toast. I appreciate that their bags are freezer safe because I can toss a whole sliced bag into my freezer and have it on hand whenever; slices toast up super well from frozen without needing to de thaw. There a particular gentleman who works the register most days I come in. Today there was a "be back in 10 minutes" sign, which was fine. I pulled on the door to see if it was still locked after waiting about 5 minutes and he came to the door, stopped, looked me dead in the eyes and gave me the rudest look, then proceeded to unlock to door and be rather rude to me as I asked for my bread. I felt uncomfortable and was confused why he was irritated with me when he's the one who locked the door during open hours? Definitely the largest donuts I've ever come across. They were a little too sweet for me though. Out of the three, the Almond Joy was my favorite! If you're a fan of the candy, you'll likely enjoy this donut. The cookie was soft, chewy, and had the perfect salted caramel flavor. Although the donuts and cookie thoroughly satisfied my sweet tooth, I have to say, the ciabatta was my favorite. It was soft on the inside, full of flavor, and a must-try! Finally made it in on a Saturday before they ran out of doughnuts! As someone who isn't really into cake donuts, I was really happy to see the assortment of yeast options. They were both pricey (~$4 iirc) but absolutely massive--the cream donut must've weighed like 2 lbs. They're a bit bready for yeasted donuts, but I quite liked it! Especially loved the texture of the cream donut, reminded me a bit of rice flour pastries with its bounciness. There are about a dozen different glorious types of bread in loaves as well as yummy cookies, jams and if you have lived your life well you will arrive on a Saturday when they have salad plate size donuts. We are currently working our way through the different varieties of breads (& donuts!) but the olive and cranberry walnut are particular favorites of ours. Once, my bag was chosen for secondary screening by the TSA at Boston Logan Airport. My loaf of chocolate bread from When Pigs Fly had set off the alarms. The TSA agent pulled out the bread and informed me that he loved When Pigs Fly as well, and that the sundried tomato bread never lasted long enough in his house for him to have any. When Pigs Fly, setting off TSA alarms and bringing people together in the strangest of places! Now for the actual review: My favorite is the chocolate bread -- everything I want in a sweet bread, really. It tastes divine when toasted (those melty chocolate chips!) and sometimes I add strawberries and whipped cream for a special treat! The banana walnut bread is also great -- a nice crunch and sweetness. For savory breads, I love the sundried tomato with fresh basil. Great flavors. All of their savory breads have this chunky salt on top that is really tasty. I always go for their holiday special deal (buy a $25 gift card and get a free loaf of bread). They always have a few samples up front for you to taste, but if there's a different loaf you want to try, just ask and they'll slice a new one for you. For semi-sweet: Orange/Cranberry/Walnut and Mango Pineapple/Raisins/Sesame are my standard go-to's. Perfect as toast for breakfast. I came here on one occasion during the week to grab a Salted Caramel Triple Chocolate Chip, which was big, delicious and very fudgey. I had to eat it on 2 occasions because of how huge and fudgey this delicious cookie was. Then I came here on a Saturday, to try 3 doughnuts (Confetti, Cereal, and Mango Blueberry). All doughnuts are deliciously baked and frosted, and did I not mention GINORMOUS. I personally recommend to eat one doughnut at a given time! I came back here on a third occasion to try a Hibiscus doughnut and it is deliciously flavored like the flower and doughy. But my favorite has got to be the baby spinach, onion and garlic ciabatta. The scent alone is divine. The service is great, you can grab some samples if you're too indecisive. I've tried their cookies and bread pudding cakes and weren't big fans of those (mainly because of the combination of ingredients), but they are certainly unique. With all its charm, there are so many loaf options to choose from - there's definitely something to satisfy everyone. I tried the olive loaf and a soft pretzel - the olive loaf was delicious and lasted longer than a usual loaf from the supermarket does in my apartment (fresh-ness wise), but not much longer, because it was REALLY good. The soft pretzel wasn't anything special. For $4 it was a little disappointing, it was lacking in flavor or distinction of any kind. Honestly I'd rather invest in another loaf of bread. I had seen When Pigs Fly advertised in many random spots all over the place. From local businesses, to Whole Foods and even in magazines and television shows. After moving to Somerville and driving by the place almost every single day, I finally decided to check it out. After all the place is less than a mile away from my apartment, and is located just a couple of minutes away, if that, from Davis Square. So one random evening, I grabbed my jacket, car key and drove out to the place. They have a tiny 4-spot parking lot available and I snagged one of the spots and made my way inside the modest, small shop. The décor is very simplistic, and features wooden accents with some dim lighting. Instead of a counter like you'd have inside any other bakery I've seen, you instead face two 'walls' of shelves, each stocked with all sorts of breads and other random baked goods. They have all sorts of bread loafs available, from the classic sourdough breads to move original ones like some which have some Curry powder in them along with some raisins. It's different but actually pretty tasty and they have samples that you can try near the register. I sampled quite a few before making my mind up and the women was very helpful in the sale process and answered all of my questions. I was essentially looking for some good, crusty sandwich bread whose flavors wouldn't overpower whatever other ingredients I stuffed in between the two slices. I got their wheat bread for this particular occasion and it toasted well and the sandwich was great. Since then I've also tried their chocolate loaf which is decent and their sourdough bread which is pretty good. Overall the shop is a nice addition to the area, which doesn't have too many bakeries, Lyndell's aside, and they have breads for all sorts of occasions. Along with their bread loafs, they also sell all kinds of jams and occasionally will have other baked goods like puddings. There are two bread places you should go to in Boston/Cambridge: Iggy's and When Pigs Fly. Go to Iggy's for the savory bread/focaccia/traditional dinner table bread. Come to When Pigs Fly for fruity/sweet/exotic flavors. They have really fun flavors like blueberry with almonds and granola, cranberry and orange, chocolate (yes it's doable and it exists!), pumpkin and apple, and others. You won't find those combos anywhere else, and certainly of similar quality. Their loaves are HUGE, and lasts me months. I actually cut half and freeze and then eat the rest. Really great for breads! I've gotten a few breads here favorite of which are - rye, Tuscan, and their dinner rolls. All of these are very well priced and actually quite cheap for both quality and quantity. The staff is really great and really know their breads! You can get the loaves whole or slides - I recommend sliced - and no extra cost. I've also sampled their pretzels and these are sooo good - definitely will get an entire one at one point. The only thing I don't quite like from here are their cookies and their muffin like baked goods. The cookies are too hard and overall not that tasty. The muffin like baked goods are pretty much bread pudding and not exactly what I look for in a muffin. They are very dense and really heavy overall. I can't say enough about this bakery and restaurant. Went up on Friday stopped and had lunch. Left on Monday went and had lunch on the way home. Ham sandwich on focaccia, with goat cheese spread , apples , delicious . We bought 3 loaves of bread , and 2 pretzels. Pretzels were gone before we got home. If you love bread, definitely check this place out! It has some of the best tasting bread I have ever had and they often have seasonal unique flavors. They can also slice the bread for you which is super helpful. Recently I got the Cider Donut loaf - omg delicious! I literally ate two slices of bread just by themselves before I even made it back to the T stop. I usually freeze some when I get home because otherwise I would eat the whole loaf by myself within a few days. A few nitpicks that aren't enough to bring this down to 4 stars but are worth mentioning: 1) The unique flavored loaves are $6 which is a bit on the pricier side for bread. So at least for me this isn't going to be a weekly bread stop. Probably best for my diet though. On the plus side, they do have bread samples and often will cut a piece of bread for you if you ask so you can try it before you buy it! 2) The customer service is meh. The people that worked there didn't seem particularly happy to be there and I felt like I was greatly burdening them by asking for samples.
