Loved this little shop. They serve great coffee and drinks, homemade breads, pastries, even some delicious looking sandwiches and pizzas on homemade dough. The spot is known for their Persian spin on great classics, and many of the typical French offerings. I got to try their pistachio croissant and a black sesame latte. Both were very good. The croissant was excellent; dough was perfect, not overly sweet. Tons of pistachio on the inside. It's topped with a hefty amount of what tastes a bit like cream cheese (but it's probably something else, that's just what it reminds me of). Highly recommend trying it. The black sesame latte came recommended by the staff member. Also very good, nice unique flavor and made with in house syrup! I will say though, it was a little bit gritty as you got to the end of the latte. Theres also an area to sit outside and inside. All in all, an amazing spot that I'd love to visit again! read more

We were so happy when La Saison opened during the pandemic. Supporting a small business that launched in such uncertain times felt important, but that's not the only reason we kept going back week after week. We fell in love with the pastries--each one with a unique Persian spin on flavor. My favorites are still the Kouign-Amann, Pain Aux Raisin, and the Feta-Za'atar and Orange Marzipan Scones. But the true jewel of La Saison is the Kuku Sabzi on Sea Salt Focaccia. It is unbelievably good. What makes La Saison even more special are the owners, Sarah and Soheil. Their warmth, creativity, and genuine care for their customers shine through in everything they do. You can feel their heart in every pastry and bread and every interaction. My friend and I came here for breakfast around 9:30am on a Saturday. It was busy, but not packed. We asked if they were serving sandwiches, and they weren't, so we got a few pastries to share. The multigrain croissant was simple but very delicious. The pesto Gruyère scone was not dry (as most scones are!), and the flavor of the ingredients was very strong. The pistachio croissant with mascarpone frosting was certainly a maximalist pastry, but it was good. I really enjoyed the frosting and pistachio filling in it, but the texture of the croissant wasn't as crisp and flaky as usual due to the weight and moisture of everything else. They also have a full coffee bar. There's not much (if anything) in terms of indoor seating, but there's a patio out front with a few tables and benches. If the weather is poor, I'd be prepared to take your food on the go. read more

Wow what a unique and lovely bakery! Located in a quiet residential area near Alewife, La Saison is a perfect morning stop with beautiful ambiance. The shop itself is small with limited seating, but there is an outdoor patio with seating for nice weather days. The food itself was incredible--so good I forgot to take any pics! We tried the Egg Bun breakfast sandwich, kale and burrata salad, Feta Zaatar scone, Kouign Aman, and pistachio cheesecake. For drinks we tried the Rose Latte and Saffron latte which were both excellent!The Egg Bun has the fluffiest huge egg patty and the bread is covered with a gorgeous spread of mustard seeds. I don't usually like eggs but I loved this. The Feta Zaatar scone was my personal highlight--they somehow got the feta to melt into the scone which was soooo good. The kale burrata salad was everything I wanted as a kale girl--100% kale salad pre-dressed with a lovely pistachio pesto dressing, golden raisins, and a huge whole burrata to mix in. The pistachio cheesecake was creamy with a perfect subtle pistachio flavor. And best of all, they were doing an event to support children in Gaza where the bread proceeds go to support Palestinian children. Had a quick trip to Cambridge and saw this bakery near hotel. I had a chocolate croissant, kouign-amman, and parfait (sorry no pic). The pastries were fresh and flakyious. I came back next day to get their breakfast sandwich that people were ordering the previous day. The sandwich was very tasty to-go item before my flight home. The place was pretty busy with locals getting their breakfast and drinks. The interior is small, so I could see the lines going outside. I hate to give away my spot but this place is IT. always rotating weekly specials, seasonal specials, make their own sugar cubes, unique coffeees, sourdough pizza, I don't even know what to say. A shout-out to the cakes at La Saison. We ordered one of each (chocolate, naked, cheesecake) to bring to a party and they were all hits. The chocolate cake with mousse pudding between the layers was moist and chocolatey and delicious with a rich and delicious dark chocolate flavor. The naked cake was the visual star--absolutely gorgeous with the fruit and edible flowers and layers of whipped cream with rose water. It was also incredibly light and delicious, like eating spring or summer in a cake. (It also cut like a dream, to our surprise.) The cheesecake, while the least showy of the three since there is no fruit or decoration on top, was a light and delicious cheesecake with a wonderful graham cracker crust. I wish it had a little decorative pizzazz (a little fruit on top would have looked and tasted beautiful), but we had no quibbles with the flavor. Highly recommend all three cakes. read more

I ate everything right when I got home. Unfortunately, 2 out of the 3 items had a distinct refrigerator taste. The Rose Water Fruitcake ($23) especially the outer and partial middle layers tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for a week, dulling the fruit flavor that can only only be described as routine left in the fridge for days. The croissant was buttery and otherwise enjoyable, but carried a faint "cabinet storage" aftertaste. However, the drinks were spectacular and the staff was incredibly pleasant and welcoming. I don't usually go with 3 stars, but that lingering fridge taste really left an impression, just not the kind I was hoping for. read more

La Saison is my second closest neighborhood bakery, aside from Iggy's. There is almost always a line here because it's SO popular, regardless of the time of day. I am a fan of the breakfast egg sandwich, but they also have a variety of pastries, breads, sandwiches, and drinks--including a matcha latte, which you can customize with different types of milk. The menu is seasonal, so keep in mind that any one item may not be available forever. There is no indoor seating space but they have outdoor tables, os this is a great place to come on a nice day, although folks will also be huddled outside during the winter as well. Such a nice spot to grab a pastry on a sunny day! The workers were patient and friendly as well. I enjoyed the scone- the marzipan flavor wasn't overpowering and paired nicely with the orange essence. The chai in the cookie was strong and both cookies were gooey with chocolate- delicious! The drink wasn't for me- it was hard to mix the syrup which led to the drink tasting so strongly of pistachio towards the end, so if you prefer more subtle flavorings then maybe pick another! Yes, strongly We've been to La Saison Bakery many times, and each visit has been a treat. We've tried all the scones, and they've never disappointed. The Feta Za'atar scone strikes the perfect balance of savory richness and herby warmth, while the Tomato Gorgonzola scone is beautifully tangy with layers of flavor. The Marzipan Orange scone is not too sweet, and the Pesto Gruyere scone is rich and cheesy with an herby finish. Each scone has a light, fluffy, buttery crumb with just the right amount of soft flakiness (especially when lightly reheated). The pizza, which is more of a dressed focaccia, is also a winner. The base is tender and slightly chewy with a golden, crispy edge, and it's topped with rotating, fresh ingredients that make every bite flavorful. It's simple yet satisfying, with a great topping:crust ratio. La Saison is cozy but the outdoor seating makes it the perfect spot to enjoy these incredible baked goods or grab a quick bite. Very small and even though it was nearly lunchtime and pizzas and sandwiches were ready and visible we were told we would have to wait 30 minutes before we could order them. Ended up ordering other breakfast pastry items which were ok. Coffee and Chai size cups small. Limited seating outside and an igloo. Beware of some patrons that place toys on tables to reserve them so when you sit down and about to eat they come out and tell you they were holding the table for themselves. Pretty rude! I came here after a week long conference in nearby Waltham to try their gluten free Hazelnut Cookie, while the Kouign Amman and chocolate croissants are recommended in the neighboring areas of Somerville and north Cambridge, and the Pain aux Raisins that I got to share later. The Persian touches including the rug on the floor and the Thursday noon Barbaris bread along with the variety of coffee creations evoke an ethnic vibe. I saw lots of reviews raving about LA SAISON's pastries and they did not disappoint! I tried their pain au chocolat, kouign amann, and pesto gruyere scone. The pain au chocolat and kouign amann tasted super fresh and were nice and flaky on the outside, although they both were not as flaky on the inner layers. The pesto gruyere scone was definitely my favorite of the three - the texture was amazing and the pesto and gruyere flavors were present but not overpowering. I also got a French deux latte, which was nice and milky. Perfect for my personal preference, but maybe not for someone who prefers something a lot more coffee forward. I ordered two cakes for a birthday celebration so my review is for these items. Staff were helpful and friendly. I ordered a chocolate cake and a vanilla rosewater cake. I was satisfied with both cakes although the chocolate cake was better than the vanilla rosewater. Neither was too sweet, and the cream for each was delicious. Some of the fruit on the vanilla rosewater did not seem fresh. Although cakes were satisfactory, they were overpriced and not particularly memorable. read more

Because this bakery runs out of goods quickly (like most bakeries in Boston it seems), I made some online orders. It gets a little tricky because if they run out of a good on the day you are making the order, you can't really order that item for a future day. I got quite a few things, but in order of what I liked: Brioche frite (~$6): This is only on Sundays, but definitely the best thing I've tried here. It's a panko-like crusted breading with vanilla bean custard filling inside. There's a huge amount of filling to crispy breading ratio, but I didn't mind. I did get a little tired of the filling, but I would get this again in a heartbeat. Madagascar vanilla / chocolate souffle pound cakes (~$5): they were both dry, especially given that they are pound cakes. The flavors were fine I suppose, but the vanilla one wasn't 'as vanilla' as the custard in the brioche frite. I would avoid their pound cakes. Feta Za'tar scone (~$5): pretty standard in terms of taste, but good combination of spices. My friends enjoyed this the most. Kouign Amann (~$5): I've had much better KAs elsewhere. The inside was a bit too much like a Costco croissant (which I love, but best toasted up). read more

La Saison Bakery just opened a couple years ago but they've already gained a loyal following and a lot of positive press, including a recent mention on Food & Wine's list of the best bread in every state. I visited on a weekday morning and tried a few items, including two of their sourdough breads. Generally everything was pretty good, and the breads were quite good. Prices are pretty high and were not on display when I visited. They're very popular, so order online in advance if you have your eye set on a particular item, especially if you want their bread - it sells out very quickly, especially on weekends. The interior of the store is quite narrow, and they limit capacity, but they have some seating and tables outside. From most- to least-liked, I tried: The Sourdough Loaf ($6 for half loaf) - this is quite good, a very soft and somewhat sour bread with a thin, soft crust. It's made of bread flour and stone-ground wheat flour, and it does taste quite "white" so I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for it if you like whole grains. I found it quite yummy though. Cherry Oat Cookie ($3) - very good and full of buttery, slightly nutty flavor. It was sweet but not too sweet, and the cranberries were nicely tart. Fig-Walnut Sourdough Bread ($6.50 for half loaf) - save dough base as the regular sourdough loaf, with figs and walnuts mixed in. I preferred the plain sourdough but this was also good. Feta-Za'tar Scone ($4.90) - soft and buttery and cheesey, with a soft texture. This was recommended as one of the most popular items there. It's quite rich. Kouign-Amann ($5.20) - denser and significantly sweeter than the croissant. This is also a popular item here; I thought it was pretty good but not amazing. French Croissant ($4.70) - not that flaky, layers aren't the thinnest. The flavor is slightly sweet and fairly buttery. For the price I wasn't impressed; it wasn't bad by any means, but I thought the sourdough bread was better. read more

We came here on a late Sunday morning, a small line was there but it moved quick. We got the fruit and pistachio croissants as well as matcha pound cake and cheese scone. The pastries were all very delicious and paired very well tied our iced coffees. The pastries were not overly sweet and the croissants had nice flake to them. This is not only the best neighborhood bakery, but may be the best in Cambridge, maybe in greater Boston... The croissants are the best available this side of the Atlantic! And, what can be better than to go to a small, locally owned bakery, run by the owners who are lovely people. I feel lucky they opened near my home, my neighbors do, too. And, they have outdoor seating under umbrellas. Or, you can just take it right home. I stopped by, just before travelling to see my niece, bought 1/2 doz chocolate croissants for her family. One of the owners gave me some that were still warm, just out of the oven, and put them in a box -- telling me to keep the lid open. They smelled great driving all the way to the end of the Mass Pike! When I arrived, hours later, they were perfect. They have many beautiful baked items and great coffees and teas -- plus, hot chocolate to die for.
