When I visited my kid in Cambridge during my spring break, the conversation somehow turned to LA Burdick. And since I've never visited one before, I was all in. Coming here ended up being exactly what we needed: a warm, cozy spot and a really solid cup of hot chocolate. L.A. has a comfortable setup with a small dine-in area- and, it wasn't even busy when we came here which made it even nicer. There's a whole section for chocolate truffles filled with interesting sounding flavors- I'll come back to this in a second. There's an island in the middle stocked with gift items and other treats and the ordering counter has pastries and sweets. Out croissant was perfect for sharing and filled nicely with Nutella. While everything looked great, the chocolate truffles didn't quite hit the mark for me. I know the gourmet truffles I'm used and these aren't it for me..... that's just me. These didn't feel as rich or substantial in flavor as I was expecting. But listen....I'll come back with my kid ASAP for a hot chocolate! read more

Went here with a few friends to try the new ice cream, and ended up getting a few chocolates as well. Ice cream is high quality - it's SUPER rich, the scoops are tiny (especially for the price...) but are quite sweet and heavy. I was originally worried that the small wouldn't be enough, but when I was done with it I felt satisfied and didn't want anymore. I tried the straciatella and others tried the chocolate honey and hazelnut. All flavors were well defined, I think chocolate honey was the group favorite. Not being able to try anything is tough, I would have probably gotten a different flavor but was scared to branch out to the more unique flavors in case I didn't like them - at 8.50 for a small it felt like a big risk haha. A friend got the waffle cone and felt it was really good. We each tried a little chocolate too which were unsurprisingly very tasty. I'm not sure this would be my go to ice cream place , especially in Coolidge with so many options, but it's an indulgent treat and I'm glad I tried it! read more

Both milk and chocolate were dream-likely condensed, fragrant, sweet, silky and thick, but surprisingly not overwhelming at all. Milk inside actually reminded me of the condensed milk from my hometown Canton. Imagine how comfortable it would be to hold a small hot cup at a leisurely, sun-drenched winter afternoon. Chocolate Mousse Cake: I have to admit that the cake was not as good as the beverage, interesting though. Really amazing and delectable chocolates (of course!). I personally love the drinking chocolate, which you can get as dark, milk, or white chocolate. They also have a spiced one that I haven't tried but have heard is pretty good. They also have non-dairy milks (oat milk and almond milk) available that can be added to the drinks. I personally love the dark drinking chocolate with oat milk. It's so smooth and creamy! They have so many different types of chocolates in the cases and some prepackaged to make an easy gift! They have a lot of variety, as well as some other coffee beverages and bakery items. Would highly recommend! The service is great, very friendly and helpful. The inside feels like Disneyland - a step into some magical, happy place. There is a decent amount of indoor seating, but it's also a great location if you want to walk around Coolidge Corner. Located at the corner of beacon Street near Coolidge corner, another great location for LA Burdick. I came on a busy Saturday afternoon to meet up with a couple of friends. It was very busy and difficult to get a table. There's a few small tables in the front and a few small booths in the back. The tables are fixed to the ground so you can only move chairs around. I got a small white chocolate hot chocolate and the gyurere croissant. Both were great as the hot chocolate was very rich while the croissant was cheesy and flaky. I'd definitely come here again to try out their other hot chocolates or check out other locations. Overall, a great sweet midday treat for the weekend. read more

They're most famous for their hot chocolate and their carefully crafted chocolates. There is a familiar feeling of the Harvard and Beacon Street corner location, minutes from where I grew up. I've been to this LA Burdick twice and had decent experiences both times. The first visit was on a weekend it was busy, so we had to wait for a table. I ordered a pastry(torte) and a green tea. The second time was on a weekday, and it was much quieter with plenty of seating. I ordered the same thing again. No complaints about the things I had, but not memorable. You can find similar stuff at plenty of other places. The parking was easy both times as there is a lot of meters nearby. read more

I've been a loyal customer of L.A. Burdick Handmade Chocolates at their Harvard Square location for many years. While it's had its ups and downs--such as periods of no seating and then limited seating availability--it has always been a charming little cafe. However, over time, I've noticed that the portions have steadily shrunk while the prices have climbed higher and higher. Naturally, I was excited to hear about the new Brookline location, especially since it's closer to me and promised to offer a larger space. I stopped by today and was appalled by what I saw. The cakes they now offer are miniature. They're about a third or even a quarter of the size of what the Harvard Square location used to serve, and the prices are sky-high. While I assume they still taste good, the portion sizes are so offensively small that I can't imagine ever returning. These cakes, pastries, and chocolates are not what I'd consider "normal-sized" for a cafe. I'm not expecting Cheesecake Factory portions, but these are far smaller than you'd reasonably expect for $6-$12; they're literally two or three bites. A visit to a cafe should be an enjoyable experience where you can relax with a coffee and dessert, and not leave feeling taken advantage of. I don't believe this pricing and portion strategy will succeed in Brookline. This isn't Harvard Square, where customers might tolerate a poor price-to-value ratio in exchange for the experience. Once the initial hype wears off, I expect the Brookline location will face significant challenges unless they make changes and offer some value. Extremely disappointing. One star. read more

We have eaten at L. A. Burdick at various times for several years. This new location is very nice. The orange hazelnut chocolate cake is delicious. Their hot chocolate is rich and thick. The food and beverages are consistently delicious. The staff is very friendly. They have quite a bit of seating. But it is generally crowded, and we have been lucky to find a table each time we have ordered here. It is pleasant to eat here because unlike some of the other sit down coffee places in the area, people actually sit and talk to each other. Maybe because there are a dearth of plugs for computers. This seems to for the most part have discouraged those who camp out for the day, occupy tables, and treat establishments like this as work places or study halls. It is bright because the sun shines through the walls of tall windows, and the place feels light and friendly. There is a retail section that sells hot chocolate, chocolate bars, and much else that is chocolate. A nice place to get a special chocolate gift. However, this place is very expensive, and the cake / pastry servings are very small. Their individual chocolates are very very tiny. Some of their chocolate items have almost doubled in price in recent years. We realize the chocolate prices have increased, but we would feel better about ordering if they were more generous with portion sizes. We still occasionally stop by when we want a treat. read more

The location is great and the store was lovely. We had two slices of cake to go along with the little chocolate mice. The mice were gone in a flash and delicious-the cake slices were just ok. They were about 7.00 per small slice and we got them to go. When we opened the box at home only one was correct-a slice of raspberry chocolate. This was dry a s a bone. The other was a chocolate lemon (not what we ordered) but was better. The place is so charming but for the prices you pay-it should be exceptional and the order correct. read more

The Burdick chocolate store in Brookline just had its opening on Saturday and it was fantastic! The ambiance was nice and the head chef was mingling with everyone. The samples that they gave out were quite delicious. I bought a few chocolates which were excellent!!Some of the best chocolate that I have ever had. The Boston location I have been at for over 10 years often. I brought my daughter in on a Thursday for part of her City shopping day. There were 3 employees at the entrance and it was the worst experience ever. One other customer was there and she was holding court at the checkout. She had not even placed her order for chocolates we had. The gentleman getting my daughters chocolates seemed new and another gentleman came over and started critiquing him why are you using tongues you have gloves just use your hands. This guy was rude had the air about him he was too good to be there just took one item we had wrapped it up put on the bow when I said we have more coming he just walked away with an eye-roll. The girl employee noticed and came over and said oh so sorry I can fix it we got out box of chocolates and there was a special one on the side which is $9.00 for one truffle and I figure ok all should be in there walked over to get coffee at another place as it was so dysfunctional there and yup missing the $9.00 chocolate so I had to go back. Just a very unorganized poor customer service drop the dead weight and keep the go getters. read more
