Probably now one of my favorite cafes. The food was amazinggg and the coffee is good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is nice and cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Plenty of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got the salmon croissant sandwich and it was probably the best salmon sandwich I've had in my life.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]PRB Boulangerie is a really cute cafe in the Kendall Square area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When you walk in, there's a ton of delicious pastries on display and a ton of seating to hang out or work at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got a pistachio pastry and a seasonal latte which were both delicious. They even brought a cute gingerbread cookie with the latte! I'll definitely be back to check it out if I want a good cup of coffee and pastry.

I came here to try the viral creme brulee latte which comes with a mini croissant on top! While it was still super cute, they were out of mini croissants (although still replaced with another pastry) and just tasted like plain coffee, which was good just nothing special (and reasonably priced I think for a Boston specialty drink). I wished it was a little bit creamier, and despite the pretty toppings there was no creme brulee flavor in my opinion. Service was notably pretty slow, although it was a bit busy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I do like that it is one the bigger cafe's I have been to in the area with a decent amount of seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Absolutely incredible! This spot has some of the tastiest, most masterfully baked French pastries in Boston at an affordable price. If you're looking for a quick bite of some baked goods (or even if you're not), you need to try PRB! On top of their amazing pastries, their menu also offers some tasty brunch options! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is perfect for grabbing a bite with friends, meeting up for a social gathering, or just sitting quietly to get work done.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The indoor and outdoor seating is spacious, clean, and chic![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also the service is quick and helpful letting you focus on your meal and whatever else you need to. I can't recommend this place enough. After just one visit, I want go back and try everything on the menu!

tl;dr decent bakery that meets the mark in many ways, but is not a standout I've visited the PRB in Kendall a handful of times while in the area. The most recent visit was on a Sunday afternoon - there were several people either catching up with friends or doing work on their laptops, but still several seats open such that it didn't feel too crowded. The pastry display area is impressive, and the presentation is eye-catching for sure. This time I got a cappuccino, chocolate almond croissant (Croissant au Chocolat-Amandes), and regular almond croissant (Croissant au Amandes). The croissants were good but not great - they weren't as flaky as I'd hoped, and the texture is much harder than ideal as well. The actual flavor itself, however, was still great, which is why I don't want to knock it too much. Previously, I've had PRB's croissants fresh out of the oven (right after running a nearby race), and those were perfect. Great flavor and texture with no suggested improvements. When I did takeout today, I warmed up the croissants at home in a toaster oven, and that improved the flavor dramatically, but by default they didn't make a major impression on me. The cappuccino is OK. It gets the job done but feels like it lacks the same flavor and potency as others in the area - I feel that both Tatte and Shy Bird (which are on the same street) have better cappuccinos at a similar price point. The staff are generally helpful and friendly, especially during less busy hours. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, PRB earns stars for a relaxed atmosphere and stellar presentation, but could improve in terms of their espresso drinks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If PRB proactively offered to warm up any pastry for customers upon ordering, I strongly believe that would go a very long way.

This boulangerie is wonderful! We got the banana chocolate pastry, raspberry croissant, lime tart, creme brûlée latte, and caramel apple latte and everything was delicious and top quality

This lovely bakery was open on Thanksgiving and we felt so lucky to be able to get some sweet treats. I really wanted to try the pistachio fruit tart, but they were sold out right before it was my turn to order. Instead, I ordered the pistachio eclair. My partner ordered a few pastries, but my favorite was the cookie croissant. I also ordered a chai latte that was super delicious.

Paper could not be removed from sandwich. $8 tart and cookie in background

Place was filled with fake plants, chairs don't match, 15 minutes after opening and it was filled to the brim. Meh food, better pastries, but should be MUCH better considering I just paid $8 for a single-serving fruit tart. $8 was a theme: fruit tart, blackberry lime tart, eclairs, coffee eclairs, other cakes and pastries. A cookie is $2.50 which is more reasonable. A $12 baguette caprese sandwich can feed 2 comfortably, which is nice. The burrata they use in it is great. No vegetarian sandwich available on a croissant? What happened to a measly egg and cheese (no ham)? They are all premade and available on display which allows for faster service. Also: the sandwich is wrapped in the middle and tied with string. No idea why since it probably wasn't going to fall apart without. The paper stuck to the sandwich and couldn't be removed. If only it was 11$ without being clothed for lunch!

    Iced vanilla latte

Cute place with lots of seating indoor and outdoor. I got my regular iced vanilla latte and it tasted great. I would like it with a little less milk as a personal preference. I got my quintessential cafe go-to pain au chocolat but it was a little disappointing. Pastry was not flaky nor buttery, and there were just chunks of chocolate; maybe it would be better heated. Overall, a cute cafe with a nice ambiance and chill. -6.7/10 - 7/10 for coffee

    Deborah C.

I came back and ordered an almond croissant and an iced chai latte with almond milk, which they got correct this time. The almond croissant was great, and the perfect texture and amount of sweetness. Unfortunately it seems the hot version of the chai latte is much better, as the iced version was almost tasteless and super watery. The ambience is still really nice though so I'll give them another chance. I definitely won't order the chai again though.

Dropped into PRB for a quick bite with the family after a race. The pastries were delightful - you won't find a flakier croissant in Boston. I especially enjoyed the almond croissant but the bread to my wife's salmon sandwich was a bit stale and dry. It also took us awhile to get our espresso drinks but it was very busy so that is understandable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was a decent amount of outdoor seating to enjoy a nice day as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Really like these pastries! Went in last year and felt like there was better croissants in Boston but have been back a few more times and now it's the only place I would get my Pain Suisse! Have tried a cappuccino and cortado and have no complaints! I have always been able to find a seat in both the Somerville and Kendall locations. Just need to get there before they sell out of their pain suisse!

This cute little French Cafe in the middle of Kendall Square is definitely worth finding parking for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, the atmosphere and cleanliness was refreshing to see.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The pastry case is so clean and clear, I can see my reflection in it as I gaze at well put together French pastries.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Also, side note, It's one of those bakeries where you walk in and immediately want one of everything. Luckily I had some self control that day. I bought a pastry for each friend I was about to see that day - 5 of them? Everything was well packed and ready to go. However, I was also meeting a friend there to plan her wedding details. So we also sat down to grab a bite to eat and talk. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Finding a seat was hard...there's not much space to be honest. There's a large community table down the middle with a few tables of 2 and 4 scattered around the community table. It was certainly a stand and hover kind of situation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If you can, just park on a side street and come in to pick up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Bathrooms are available and clean, it's a semi-self-service cafe where the waiters bring food to you after you order at the counter.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you need napkins, water, silverware, etc. It's all cleanly stacked on a shelf at the back for you to grab.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food wise, my friend had a croque monsieur and I had a ham and cheese croissant. My croissant was slightly greasy but it was probably because the croissant was the real deal (all the butter!) The croque monsieur is definitely going to be my order moving forward. Pastry wise. Everything was delicious. Kouign-amann and Suisse were my favorites. Though sugar dusted traditionally, their Kouign-amann was not overly sweet and was very flaky. The suisse though... man, I could eat so many of those things. What reminds me of an Italian lobster tail pastry, it's got crispy flaky dough encasing a brioche in the middle and filled with real deal vanilla bean pastry cream custard. If you can only have one thing, I'd highly recommend the suisse. One star knock off only because it's really hard to find parking and get a table.

Been wanting to give this place a try for a month after seeing gorgeous pictures of their pastries…read moreon instagram lately. I stopped by on a Sunday early morning right after they had opened and tried several items on display including a plain croissant, a pear danish, blueberry danish, and a valentine raspberry special bowtie. While the pastries looked pretty for instagram, they all needed a LOT more work. Everything here left me sad. There were no flakes, no crumble, and no crisp to the pastries (just soft, limp, sadness). The danishes here are also not cheap, with the blueberry danish being $8. According to the staff, all the danishes had come out fresh out of the oven JUST 30 minutes ago. Can only imagine how much more disappointing the pastries would've been for the people that came in after me. Save yourself a trip here and go to Michette, Lakon, Colette, Cremux Patisserie, SALT, or Little L instead if you're looking for a solid danish or croissant. Will not be back.

Good crunch to the bite, sending flaky shrapnel everywhere, but yielding to the tender center. Somewhat buttery. Chocolate croissant: Not as gigantic, but a steal at under $5. Not warm but very fresh, very flaky and delicate, cracking more intensely in the bite with even more shrapnel. Underneath, a very light and fluffy feel, along with a very buttery taste. Not greasy at all; just great flavor, and that's not even counting the dark chocolate, which was understated but effective. Pain au Raisin: Again flaky, but a bit (only a bit) on the dry side, even with the noticeably custardy notes. Good flavor to the dough. Minimal glaze if any. A rung or two lower on the impressiveness scale than the almond and chocolate croissants, but still solid. Blueberry Danish: Nice pastry, many layers, light, crisp and delicate, while still being soft and buttery. Good flavor to the dough and faintly glazed. Surprisingly, the crispness lasted well into the early evening, when tried as a take-home item. Lots of blueberries, fresh and not too fussed with, along with a bit of blueberry compote. No gimmicks, no bombast, just good stuff. Looking forward to a quick return. On my mental shopping list to encompass a few visits: chocolate almond croissant, chocolate chip cookie dough croissant (aka "cookie" and the only gimmicky item I saw), apricot danish, pear danish, pain suisse, and babka.

The interior is spacious and the service was great. I fell in love with the chopped not-liver ($13), which is a delicious eggplant spread that doesn't taste like eggplant but has a great savory flavor with a slight wine aroma. The pita bread that came with it was so warm, pillowy, and chewy. This dish was just perfection. There's an eggplant dip (Oren's eggplant) in the Bay that I have been craving, and now I have something in Cambridge that is just as good if not better. The haus smoked whitefish ($12) was also quite good. It had a lot of fish but wasn't too fishy, had good flavor and came with crunchy crackers. The fish and chips ($24) was tasty as well -- the chips are really crunchy and the fish was flaky and crunchy, and the sauce was interesting and spicy. Lastly, we got the halva ice cream sundae ($12), which was pretty decent with a lot of crunchy bits. I'm not a big fan of nutty flavors or milky ice cream, so I'm not sure if I'd get it again. There is a 20% gratuity automatically applied (we had 2 people, so I don't think it's due to party size). Service was great -- people kept checking on us and refilling our water. My recommendation is to go with the Liege waffle with berries and your pick of any other toppings. With a cozy atmosphere and the smell of warm waffles, this is an especially good spot during the colder months, but still a favorite in the warmer months too. ------ FOOD: THE LIEGE (5/5) The Liege waffle is the classic here and the one I'd recommend. Sweet, thick, and a richer snack (i.e. the satisfying treat you're probably looking for if you're stopping by a waffle shop). All of the topping combos are classic, and the berries they use here are high quality. Waffles come out hot and fresh after just being made, so if you order ice cream or whipped cream, know that you'll have to eat quickly if you don't want it to melt into the waffle. THE BRUSSELS (4.5/5) Besides the Liege, the Brussels waffle is an interesting choice and very different from the Liege. As the menu describes, it's definitely significantly lighter, and it's crispier in a different way (not from the caramelization of the pearl sugar but from crisped up batter similar to an Ego waffle). It's extremely delicate, so I'd recommend just doing some powdered sugar and maybe a chocolate drizzle or some whipped cream. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Small shop on the edge of Harvard Square. Some window seating and a few small tables best for groups of 2 - 4. * Given how small it is inside, finding a seat during peak hours can be particularly challenging, and lines can be out the door too. ------ SERVICE: * Order at the kiosk and then find a seat (if you can). When a waffle is done, they'll call a name and come to you once you indicate that it's for you. * Water and utensils are self-service, and the expectation is that you put your plates, utensils, and cups away in a bin inside by the counter.

The ultimate sweetness is evident from the ingredients. The waffle was light and crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside; the sweetness of the banana and caramel is mellow and rich, the pearl sugar was slightly caramelized, and the sweetness of the cream was natural and light. Every bite offered a different layer of flavor. But most importantly, it was really sweet, and sweetness is the most soul-stirring enjoyment. It was sweet enough to bring peace, allowing you to temporarily escape the world and focus on this plate of beautiful fairytale. Café au Lait (Latte): Beautifully layered, with a natural milky aroma. Located on Dunster Street, the shop is designed for efficiency, with a straightforward layout that keeps the line moving even during busy hours. There are a few counter seats inside, but it's primarily a grab-and-go destination where most people leave carrying one of the bakery's signature string-tied pastry boxes. The cannolis are the main reason to visit, and they certainly live up to their reputation in terms of size. The classic chocolate chip cannoli is generously filled from end to end with a rich, sweet ricotta cream, while the crisp shell provides just the right amount of crunch. If you're looking for something a little different, the Florentine cannoli is an excellent choice. Its honey-nut shell adds an extra layer of texture and a subtle caramelized flavor that pairs beautifully with the creamy filling. Beyond the cannolis, the bakery offers an impressive selection of Italian pastries, cookies, cakes, and other desserts. The lobster tails are another popular option, with flaky layers surrounding a rich cream filling, and the display cases are filled with enough variety to make it difficult to choose just one item. Prices are a bit higher than your average neighborhood bakery, but the portions are generous enough that many pastries can easily be shared. Service is quick and efficient, with staff focused on keeping the line moving throughout the day. Since seating is limited, it's worth taking your pastries to nearby Harvard Yard or the Charles River, where you can enjoy them at a more relaxed pace. Mike's Pastry may be best known for its North End flagship, but the Cambridge location delivers the same oversized cannolis and classic Italian desserts in a much more convenient setting. Whether you're craving the original chocolate chip cannoli or one of their many other pastries, it's an easy stop whenever you're spending time around Harvard Square.
