Went here on a beautiful South End Saturday morning and the smells upon entering were immaculate. The french baguette had the right amount of crisp on the crust and chew on the crumb, and the croissants were buttery and light. The standout to me was the chausson aux pommes (apple turnover) as it had the same buttery pastry with an apple filling that wasn't too sweet or tart. I stopped by Colette Bakery in the South End just minutes before closing. The staff was already in the process of cleaning up, but I was still served and didn't feel rushed, which I appreciated. The space is quite small, with only a few spots to sit, so I can imagine it filling up quickly during busier times. There were still some treats available for purchase, and my vanilla chai latte came out quickly. The chai itself had a very distinct flavor profile that didn't match what I typically associate with a vanilla chai. I'm not sure if it was the vanilla flavoring used or the chai blend, but the taste was noticeably different from what I expected -- especially coming from a bakery. I found myself feeling somewhat indifferent about it. I didn't enjoy it, but I also didn't dislike it. Because the flavor was so specific and strong, I'm unsure whether I'd try another drink or item from the menu. Ambience is great and you feel France in the bakery goods! Cute Boston Terrier logo. But they have amazing food that is very light and not salty and fluffy and has wonderful buttery flavors. The ambience is very cute and they allow dogs that are not just service dogs. The community and area is beautiful and the neighborhood is friendly and the homes in this area of South Boston are so amazing with their old historical charm. read more

A cute little bakery with amazing pastries on Columbus Ave. I came here on a Friday morning and it had a steady flow of people coming in for morning coffee and treats. I decided on the chocolate bread and chocolate croissant, which were both delicious. The service was quick and all the other pastries and desserts look delectable. Small place in the South End, fairly empty. Not that much in stock. We called ahead because the website explicitly said to do so, but that was unnecessary and instead seemed to confuse the folks working there. The pastries and quiche were all pretty good. The croissant was buttery and flakey, and the Pain Swiss was creamy and rich. We also got a Croque Monsieur, which was quite disappointing. They're pre-made and sit out, and warming it up didn't really help (nor did it make it very warm). I would not recommend it. If you're in the mood for a sweet, stop by. Earlier seems better since they don't stock a lot. read more

I love going to Colette on the weekend! The South End location is small so there's not a lot of tables inside but it's very cute and clean. The service is incredible and very fast. I've tried their baked goods and their classic croissants are one of the best in the cities. I've also tried some of their flavored croissants and they're also very good. The best part about Colette is the pastries. Their classic eclairs are delicious and very rich. I love the chocolate one they have. Another favorite are the fruit tarts. The departure of this bakery space's previous tenant was a tragedy, but Colette's presence is such a joy! They have a wide variety of pastries and breads, and they also serve coffee and tea. There's a number of small tables along the wall, as well as seats by the windows. I came on a Saturday around 8am and it was already buzzing with people. The servers are friendly as well. I got a Kouing Amann, a Pecan Paris Brest, and an Iced Chai Latte, while my friend got a Quiche Lorraine and a Cappuccino. The most delicious bakery items - just heaven on earth! The drinks are also rich as well. I have came here a couple times - once on Thanksgiving Eve (very minimal selection, but also it was a holiday). Still, the treats were yummy, fresh, and high quality. A gem in the neighborhood! I experienced straight-up microaggression at this bakery. The older white woman with glasses completely ignored me when I walked in, no greeting, no acknowledgment. Then my white husband came in right after me, and she suddenly smiled and said Hello and welcomed him loudly. Mommy merely needed the toilet but the courteous staff who very obviously spoke French recommended the Canele caramelized to perfection. My caloric intake drill sargent said no, my angry child desiring nourishment huffed yes. Glad my weaker side won out. So moist and crème like on the inside.. crusty like brûlée on the exterior. My nine yr old doesn't quite understand the concept of "savoring each bite" quite yet, but within the eight seconds before his chocolate croissant was decimated into speckles of crackle remains, I took a sigh from the aroma of my blueberry hibiscus tea, releasing my resentment for selecting the non caffeinated option. I wonder if they double-back it? I've been spoiled by really good almond croissant's so I think it was just ok. Not bad, but nothing special. I really enjoyed my experience at Colette Bakery. I had their pepper quiche and hibiscus blueberry tea - the quiche was so creamy and delicious, and the tea was great too. The bakery itself is so beautiful - the decor is so aesthetic, and the seating area is so cute. I really love that I got my tea in an elegant mug - it added to the chic vibe of the place. This new location of Colette Bakery is an absolute gem to have in the neighborhood. The team working there is friendly and their food is so delicious. I got a croissant (to compare to other neighborhood croissants) and it was perfectly flaky and buttery. I also got a viennois (which are hard to find at most other French bakeries in the US) and a lemon tart. They were both absolutely perfect and made me feel like I was back in France!! The prices here are also very appropriate... I've found that other bakeries will charge $7 for a croissant which I honestly just refuse to pay, but here everything is so delicious and the right price! The vibes are very bright and airy and I can't wait make this bakery a regular stop. Would highly recommend everyone to go here! read more

Disappointing. Gave this location a try after a miserable experience in their Medford location on a rainy day some month ago where all pastries and quiche were soggy. This visit to their south end location was during a low humidity day, so there is really no excuse for the pastries. Unfortunately, Colette's quality has gone dowhill a lot since their initial year or two in Medford. The croisstants are not flaky, and the bread is just okay. If you value the quality of pastries from places like Cafe Madeline, Clear Flour, Iggy's, and Mamadou's, you will find this place disappointing. read more

I'm a tough customer having lived half the year in France for more than 15 years. The bakery in the South End is in my neighborhood and I was anxious to give it a try. I decided to start with the baguette. To my astonishment, it was great! As good as in my village if not better--crispy on the outside with just right amount of mouth-feel inside. Honestly, it made my day. The young woman who helped me was welcoming, knowledgeable about the differences in the breads they offered and when I passed on the Flammkuchen was happy to just ring me up for the bread. I totally felt welcomed back. As for ambience, It's kind of bare bones inside. There is outdoor space, but it is just a few tables, chairs and few umbrellas. Honestly, I'm not sure where I will end up reviewing Colette, but for a start, I definitely give it 4 stars for the baguette and am so glad to have it in my neighborhood. read more

It felt like one of those croissants you get at a breakfast buffet at a Hampton inn. The curry chicken croissant was an interesting thing on the menu but it did not blow my mind. My husband and I got breakfast and afternoon snacks the other day. First of all, the employees are very friendly and it was not busy at 8:30 on a Sunday. I got a chouquette (crunchy eggy and barely sweet how I like it), flan Parisienne (which I loved with flecks of vanilla bean and not too sweet), Le Boston (almond topped slice of brioche that I feel I would like more if the brioche was soft like the caramel filled ones), and I wasn't a huge fan of the drip coffee. I also got Canele (awesome crunchy exterior and custardy inside), chocolate chip brioche (yummy), chocolate lava cake (excellent heated up in the microwave), pecan financier (I was surprised how much I didn't like it), and pain suisse (my husband really liked). Despite missing the bakery that was formerly here, it is very cute and feels like an authentic Parisian bakery. read more
