Got myself a HUGEEE steamed pork bun. It was around 4 dollars, which is a steal. It was pretty good, but the bun to filling ratio made me sad. It was like 3/4 bun 1/4 filling... The bread kept being stocked and it felt like I was in a corporate bakery not a local one. But prices were fair and system was efficient. I just stumbled into Taiwan Bakery while strolling through Boston's Chinatown. I wasn't hungry, but I got hungry looking at their displays! They have wonderful looking pastries in their windows and they surely attracted me! They have various pastries that I didn't see in other bakeries in our LA's Chinatown or the San Francisco one. So that's a plus. Nice pork buns, egg tarts, moon cakes. Decent prices, nice service. I always go to Taiwan Bakery when I'm in Boston's Chinatown neighborhood, just a few steps away from the Chinatown gate. This bakery offers a large selection and assortment of traditional savory and sweet baked goods like mooncakes, Taiwanese buns, breds, pastries and cakes. Some of the mooncakes that I tried was the green tea and taro, which are both delicious! I took a few orders of taro bread, pandan and red bean mooncake to my hotel for snacks. The staff were friendly and nice and the service was good. This is one of the staple bakeries that have survived in Chinatown over the years . I just noticed I didn't do a review for this location. I've been eating here for a long, long time. They have the standard Chinese array of pastries. Some of my favorite are the sticky rice. Also the cakes with the fruit on top and I also like the steam bao buns just to name a few. as far as Chinatown goes, the bakery is pretty clean so very surprising and welcoming for tourist. The help is always pleasant and eager to add something into your order trying to upsell. lol. Super cute. Anyways definitely stopping and grab a dessert after one of the fabulous restaurants located in Boston's Chinatown district. it's always great to walk back to your car with a nice authentic Chinese pastry. Definitely tasty, the bakery here is excellent and has some dishes that other bakeries in the area do not. Typical Taiwanese bakeries, the sugar is a little lower so it tastes better and they have a pretty good bubble tea too. They do take credit card over $10. They have an excellent taro bun and the pork floss bun with mochi is fantastic. Definitely enjoy the not too sweet lao po bing too. I've really been on my Asian bakery kick lately, so while I was on vacation in Boston I stopped by this bakery while waiting for a dinner reservation. It's a small place but super clean and organized! The staff was very friendly and answered questions I had about some of their pastries. They had a variety of items from steamed pork buns (LOVED), Mooncakes for the Lunar New Year celebrations coming up, and all sorts of cakes! If I could've I would've brought all of these pastries back with me, but it was nice to be able to try some out while I could! My favorite bakery in Boston's Chinatown! It's always clean, well-lit, and well-stocked with freshly baked goods. Service is friendly, and they take card after $10 minimum spend (cash otherwise). Of what I've tried: - Wife cakes: the perfect balance of sweet and chewy on the inside, without being too dense or overly sweet. Will keep returning for these! - Coconut raisin bread: a sweet dessert bread that is decadently soft with lots of sweet coconut baked in. Oh the sweeter side, but not overly so. Would get again. - Red bean egg yolk pastry (round): the texture of a mooncake in round pastry form. Dense red bean filling, but not too overly sweet. Would get again. - Steam pork bun: huge in size and have a 10/10 filling with a savory, umami flavor and juicy texture. I just wish there was a higher filling to bun ratio, as the bun is probably around 1-2 inches thick. Would get again with this in mind, and would eat with soy milk or a soup to wash down the excess bread exterior. I will keep coming back here for their wife cakes and to try more of their soft breads and pastries. read more

My daughter asked for sesame balls for a snack. Went to Chinatown and found this bakery. Inside the bakery there a sign "sesame balls: $4.50 per box." I ordered 6 sesame balls and the cashier put them in ONE BOX. Then I was charged $27. I told the cashier that there must be a mistake. She agreed and then charged me ~ $14.50. Then I said "the sign says $4.50 per box. You are giving me one box." The cashier replied "it is 2 sesame balls per box." Then I said "so your sign should really say '$4.50 for 2 sesame balls.'l. I paid and left. I talked to a cashier at a dim sum restaurant nearby. He recommended that I don't return there and recommended a different place. My husband and I came in for our first time expecting a good experience with the baking goods from what the reviews and the pictures showed. We got the Milk sponge cake roll with the cream and fresh strawberry in the center and a pork bun because my husband always wanted to try one. I was not impressed with the sponge cake due to the consistency of the cream from the center being more of a thick butter than a whipped cream, so I only finished the sponge cake and strawberry itself and tossed the center part. The pork bun we didn't get to try because he was a bit hesitant in trying it when he later made me aware of how dirty the back of the kitchen looked and felt uncomfortable in trying it. I guess I got too excited based on how the entry way looked and just wanted something sweet to enjoy and didn't bother look at the back. I do not recommend this bakery to anyone, but that is just based on my experience. read more

As with many cute bakeries around Chinatown, they carry similar options. This is one of the last bakeries that were open at 8 PM and had a decent selection left. We ended up getting Pork dumpling, strawberry roll, sponge cake, and almond roll. Since we parted ways I'm not sure what everyone else thought about their desserts, but I thought that my almond roll was good although it did have an almost metallic taste to it. I'm not sure if it was because it was sitting around all day or if it was that particular batch. All of the classic Chinese bakery items but done beautifully. The very large steamed pork bun was packed with fresh pork and sausage and just plain delicious. Just vibrant, fresh and tasty compared to some of my other favorite spots in Chinatown. The coffee, walnut bun with cream filling and the coconut cream bun were both delicate and delicious. The chocolate walnut butter cookies were absolute perfection and packed with walnuts. The attention to detail makes me want to go back again and again. Oh, and how could I forget the absolute best Portuguese tart I have ever eaten ... Not only was the filling creamy panna cotta perfection, but the crust was so buttery and delicate I would've eaten the crust on its own. With Portuguese tarts, sometimes I don't eat the crust just to save on calories... But in this case, the crust was every bit as good as the filling. Simply amazing. I go to these bakeries twice a week due to Dr appointments. I'd go in and get the sweet pastry for my grandparents alter. I noticed that they treat other customers that speaks Chinese really friendly. But if you're non speaking, forget about it. And it's like this for his other shops too. I was there on Friday and grabbed 2 cheese cake, 2 mango mousse, 2 tiramisu. All these are going to my grandparents alter and when I opened the cheesecake ones I found rotten strawberry on top of one of them. The worst possible cake I have ever tasted in my life. It was incredibly dry and practically inedible. The fruits were not fresh and the workers did not give a knife or any decorations for a birthday cake. I was beyond disappointed. The workers also would not tell us the price of the cake after asking several times and kept talking about a no-tax deal if we bought more pastries. They would talk to each other and ignore us while we waited at the cash register. For a 6" cake that was $40, I do not think it was worth any penny. I will not be coming back. read more

First time visiting, and I tried three Taiwanese pastries. All were delicious and freshly baked: (1) The pork floss (aka pork sung) bun had just been brought out and was still faintly warm in its wrapper. The savory-umami-sweet and fluffy pork baked on top contrasted nicely in texture with the savory-umami sweet mayo-cream filling inside. The sweet bread was pure white and had that nice, springy-chewy, "Q" texture. 2) The red-bean-mochi was also freshly baked, as I could tell by the slight film of vapor inside the wrapper. It was the same "Q" sweet bread, but inside was a velvety sweet red-bean paste that paired deliciously with a soft and chewy mochi layer. (3) the strawberry cream cake in the refrigerated case is a must: a roulade of very finely textured, slightly springy, and faintly lemony castella- like cake rolled around a center of fresh whipped cream around a large fresh strawberry -- seriously yummy, and I was left wanting more. In sum, I highly recommend all three items I tried, and I am eager to return to try more. read more
