Main difference is in the unique flavors that each one offers, and Toscanini's is a bit softer with a more gelato-type texture, while New City is a little bit more of a traditional hard pack ice cream (albeit not as super dense/rich, hard and dry mouth-feel as the best "super premium" style ice creams which seem to be almost extinct these days, sadly). Both are quite overpriced, I'd say at least $7-8 per person if you don't want the super small kiddie portion size. Both have good service. New City does have a cozier, friendlier vibe and while it's smaller inside than Toscanini's, you can more comfortably just chill there chatting with your friends on a hot summer day (both places have nice AC) if you felt like it. Burnt Caramel: It was my first time seeing "burnt caramel," which is essentially sugar caramelized to a higher temperature than caramel, resulting in a darker color and a richer, more intense bitterness. While I love bitterness, I felt it was a bit too much. Most importantly, the ice cream was noticeably stickier than the others, and the plastic scoop was too soft, making it difficult to scoop. Bourbon Street: Quite similar with B3, both using brown sugar and browned butter. However, the bourbon and praline made the overall flavor sweeter, lighter, and more in line with the classic creamy taste of ice cream. In other words, it was not as distinctive as the B3.
