    Thai Tea Cake, iced pandan
    Apex S.

Exquisite as expected. We stopped here for celebratory dessert and wanted to try something we hadn't eaten before so we got the coconut pandan cake and the hot ube latte. The cake was delicious and had not only whipped cream but also a custard-y layer to it. The ube latte was yummy too, hit the spot on a cold windy day. I know it says latte but it doesn't have any coffee in it FYI. Ambiance is a very pleasant vibe, we sat in a sunny corner enjoying it drinks and dessert for an hour or so. Highly recommend!

Ube cake - A small, multi-layered cake features alternating purple and white frosting layers. The top is decorated with piped purple frosting in a swirl pattern, garnished with small green leaves. The cake is set on a clear plastic tray on a granite countertop, with a decorative base underneath. The frosting appears smooth and creamy, with a slightly glossy finish.

Maprang has been a great addition to Union Sq. I always get excited to get their Ube latte, ube basque cheesecake and a classic - the chocolate chip cookie. It's a small cafe with a few table and chairs but also a standing wall table. The staff is always friendly when I visit.

A glass display case contains various cakes and pastries, including layered cakes with purple and green frosting, fruit-topped desserts, and chocolate cakes. Labels indicate flavors such as coconut pandan, Thai tea, and strawberry shortcake. The display showcases Asian-inspired baked goods and desserts, with some items decorated with fruit, cream, and edible garnishes, in a bakery setting.

Cute Thai owned bakery! I got the: -pandan tea: super refreshing and the pandan flavor is definitely there! I loved this. -ube cake: not too sweet = best compliment! It was delicious, cake was fluffy and super cute -pandan cake: again, love how the pandan flavor is there! Doesn't taste like the artificial stuff. Service was fast and it's cute inside

Pistachio latte and a pastry. I would skip the pastry and center my day around coming back for an individual cake. They look dynamite! H/T Jimmy "JJ" Walker.

A selection of three desserts and a cold beverage are placed on a wooden table inside a bakery. The desserts include an orange-colored cake with decorative dollops, a layered cake with white frosting and carrot decorations, and a chocolate-covered treat with orange drizzle. A plastic cup with a lid and straw contains a cold drink. The background shows a window with a street view and a person standing inside the bakery.

Such an amazing cafe! I got the Thai tea cake, carrot cake, Oreo ball, and strawberry Thai tea latte with oat milk. I absolutely loved that they had a little picture menu of all the fun drinks/flavor combos you could order. I've never had a Thai tea latte before and this one was so good. The cakes were so tasty as well. I loved the fall theme here. Will have to go back when there's a geometric pumpkin cake available (they recommend calling ahead to confirm it's there)

Strawberry Shortcake - A person holds a white bakery box with a clear plastic window, displaying two strawberry shortcakes. Each cake is topped with a halved strawberry and a swirl of whipped cream. The box has a label with the bakery's name, Maprang Bakery & Cafe. The background shows a sidewalk and a brick wall, indicating an outdoor setting.

This place is on a street with a bunch of shops and they have 15 minute parking specifically to help these businesses. We got lucky and got one of those 15 minute spots, love that parking set up! The prices were more than I expected, so I only got six items, but after bringing them home and trying them all? I have serious regrets not getting more. My partner loves strawberry shortcake and says this is as good as it gets. It is so light and fluff, the strawberry is the star of the show, the cream and sponge are still soft and delicate and sweet, the perfect backup to the strawberries. Also huge shout out to the cashier who packaged the cakes. She put so much care into packaging them prettily. We watched her fold the box together, it had a cute cat sticker to close it, and she taped the pastry base down so it didn't slide in the box. We also got the little mushroom hand pie and chicken curry hand pie. Not sure if they're called hand pies? I'm so sorry I didn't get a photo of those, but they were so adorable. Perfectly laminated dough and the crimping on all the edges, fillings were sweet, and I could eat one of those for breakfast for the rest of my life and be content.

Tried Maprang Bakery & Cafe for the first time today and already wish it was closer to home! I ordered a matcha latte and a strawberry thai iced tea, both were great. The matcha latte was perfectly balanced, not too sweet or bitter, and the strawberry thai tea had a stronger strawberry flavor than thai tea, but it was refreshing and enjoyable. I also picked up three cakes: the thai tea and coffee cakes for a friend, and the strawberry matcha cake for myself and my boyfriend. My friend said the Thai tea cake was "so good", definitely a hit. We had the strawberry matcha cake a couple hours later and it was still delicious. The cake was moist, the matcha flavor wasn't overpowering, and the strawberries tasted super fresh. There's a big variety of drinks on the menu, so I definitely want to come back and try more. Everyone was also very friendly, which made the experience even better. If only they were closer to home, I'd be a regular!

My friend was raving about the cakes so I was so excited to try. I love how it has unique Asian inspired flavors, which aren't as commonly seen in bakeries. The options were amazing and they had a lot of drink options too. I wanted to try the mango shortcake but sadly they were sold out since it was the afternoon. So we opted for an ube cake and it was delicious! Light and fluffy- and not too sweet!

We have ordered a couple of custom cakes from here. The first time we got a coconut pandan cake for our small wedding, and the second time we ordered an ube cake for a birthday. Both were delicious, not to sweet, light and moist. I wish we lived closer so we could get these treats more often!

Order the Thai Tea Cake for your next birthday gathering. Both the cake and the frosting tastes like Thai Iced Tea. Very unique and tasty. My friends and I have also tried the Ube cake but all agree the Thai Tea Cake is better. The Ube cake frosting lacks Ube flavor. Note: Watch your step exiting the bakery - there is a pretty steep step. I almost completely dropped my cake that I was picking up.

A small, multi-layered cake features white frosting, green sponge layers, and yellow topping resembling shredded fruit or decoration. It is presented in a clear plastic container on a wooden table, with a label indicating it is from Maprang Bakery & Cafe.

Super cute cafe with solid cake options! I tried their coconut pandan cake and it was moist and flavorful. The egg yolk strands on top were a great touch. Not photographed is the strawberry matcha latte I also got from them. It could do with a bit more matcha but I'm not mad at it. Will definitely be back to try other cake options!

A bakery display case contains multiple small cakes and pastries, including coconut pandan cake, mango shortcake, strawberry matcha cake, and Oreo cake. Each item is labeled with a small sign indicating its name and price. The cakes are decorated with cream, fruit, and other toppings, arranged on clear trays inside the case. The background shows a reflection of the bakery interior and some additional baked goods on the upper shelf.

Maprang Bakery and Cafe is a must try if you are looking for desserts in the Somerville area! They have a ton of breakfast pastries and mini cakes available. There were so many flavors but I decided to try the coconut pandan cake, which was so fluffy and delicious! They also have coffee available and I was pleasantly surprised by how great the toffee nut latte was. It's a pretty small space but they do have some seating. The staff was super friendly and nice to everyone - definitely check out and support this awesome spot!

I stopped by on a Sunday early morning right after they had opened and tried several items on display including a plain croissant, a pear danish, blueberry danish, and a valentine raspberry special bowtie. While the pastries looked pretty for instagram, they all needed a LOT more work. Everything here left me sad. There were no flakes, no crumble, and no crisp to the pastries (just soft, limp, sadness). The danishes here are also not cheap, with the blueberry danish being $8. According to the staff, all the danishes had come out fresh out of the oven JUST 30 minutes ago. Can only imagine how much more disappointing the pastries would've been for the people that came in after me. Save yourself a trip here and go to Michette, Lakon, Colette, Cremux Patisserie, SALT, or Little L instead if you're looking for a solid danish or croissant. Will not be back.

Good crunch to the bite, sending flaky shrapnel everywhere, but yielding to the tender center. Somewhat buttery. Chocolate croissant: Not as gigantic, but a steal at under $5. Not warm but very fresh, very flaky and delicate, cracking more intensely in the bite with even more shrapnel. Underneath, a very light and fluffy feel, along with a very buttery taste. Not greasy at all; just great flavor, and that's not even counting the dark chocolate, which was understated but effective. Pain au Raisin: Again flaky, but a bit (only a bit) on the dry side, even with the noticeably custardy notes. Good flavor to the dough. Minimal glaze if any. A rung or two lower on the impressiveness scale than the almond and chocolate croissants, but still solid. Blueberry Danish: Nice pastry, many layers, light, crisp and delicate, while still being soft and buttery. Good flavor to the dough and faintly glazed. Surprisingly, the crispness lasted well into the early evening, when tried as a take-home item. Lots of blueberries, fresh and not too fussed with, along with a bit of blueberry compote. No gimmicks, no bombast, just good stuff. Looking forward to a quick return. On my mental shopping list to encompass a few visits: chocolate almond croissant, chocolate chip cookie dough croissant (aka "cookie" and the only gimmicky item I saw), apricot danish, pear danish, pain suisse, and babka.

I fell in love with the chopped not-liver ($13), which is a delicious eggplant spread that doesn't taste like eggplant but has a great savory flavor with a slight wine aroma. The pita bread that came with it was so warm, pillowy, and chewy. This dish was just perfection. There's an eggplant dip (Oren's eggplant) in the Bay that I have been craving, and now I have something in Cambridge that is just as good if not better. The haus smoked whitefish ($12) was also quite good. It had a lot of fish but wasn't too fishy, had good flavor and came with crunchy crackers. The fish and chips ($24) was tasty as well -- the chips are really crunchy and the fish was flaky and crunchy, and the sauce was interesting and spicy. Lastly, we got the halva ice cream sundae ($12), which was pretty decent with a lot of crunchy bits. I'm not a big fan of nutty flavors or milky ice cream, so I'm not sure if I'd get it again. There is a 20% gratuity automatically applied (we had 2 people, so I don't think it's due to party size). Service was great -- people kept checking on us and refilling our water. In conclusion, the eggplant chopped not-liver was amazing and it's everything I've been looking for. I'm excited to try more of their offerings.
