Taro Matcha, Grape Matcha & Matcha Icecream
    Connie L.

Mido Matcha is conveniently located in the heart of Central Square! We were looking for refreshing drinks for a hot summer day and stumbled across them. I tried their Taro Matcha which was just a huge clump of unsweetened taro paste that was never fully able to mix with the rest of the drink. An in house taro syrup or blend-able powder would've tasted better. This was not a very pleasant drink which is unfortunate considering it was $8+. Their Grape Green Tea was much more enjoyable! It was fruity & refreshing with an aftertaste of matcha. The icecream was very average tbh. Overall, they're another trendy + overpriced spot that can be hit or miss.

The drink was pretty good, service was great. It's a cute little place to go in and out for a drink

Passed by this place and got a matcha americano. Super rich and clean matcha! This is purely just matcha and water, so I'm pleasantly surprised that it tasted so good. The matcha quality tastes really good even in this Americano, so I'm pretty curious to try the other menu items. There is no seating inside and it's a small business. Service was nice and fast.

I decided to try a new matcha place and found this one nearby. When you walk in, it's a small cafe with no seating, so it's definitely more of a grab and go spot. We ordered at the Kiosk, and I got the Jasmine Matcha Latte while my friend got the Strawberry Matcha Latte. The matcha had a bright, vibrant color and a smooth rich earthy flavor. I would definitely recommend the strawberry matcha, the strawberry sauce they use for the drink was delicious. However, I probably wouldn't order the Jasmine Matcha Latte again because I felt like it was lacking in flavor. There were two workers behind the counter, and both were kind and got us in and out quickly.

Hot hojicha latte Jasmine matcha latte Taro matcha latte Hojicha single scoop Level 2 matcha single scoop

I ordered three drinks and technically two double scoop cups, but then ended up giving me one scoop each - hot hojicha latte $7 - cold taro matcha latte $7.50 - cold jasmine matcha latte $7.50 - hojicha/matcha level 2 double scoop $8 Total was about 32.10 with tax. So far, the gelato is the star. The hojicha flavor is the best! The level 2 matcha comes second. I didn't try level 1, but I did try level 3. Level 3 is more earthy and definitely good if you prefer that. Level 2 is a nice medium. The hot hojicha latte was a 1/5 for me. It barely tasted like hojicha, very dilute and milky. The cold taro matcha latte and jasmine matcha latte was a 3.5/5. It wasn't overly sweet. The taro added a nice texture. The jasmine matcha was not very floral like you'd see from Hey Tea or Molly Tea. Which depends on preference. When I came in, they had just gotten their sign under the register done and peeled. The service was ok. None of them really talked to me or helped with suggestions. There were only maybe two other customers and they all went to the kiosk. The space is small and it's relied on street parking. Would maybe come back for the gelato. Only qualm is that it's $8 for the size you get is not the best.

While walking down Mass Ave, I noticed that Mido Matcha was opened and had replaced Mogee Tee. Went in and ordered an iced matcha latte with oat milk and an extra shot of matcha. Although a bit pricy because they charge $1 extra for milk alternatives and $3 for the extra shot of matcha, the drink was well balanced and perfectly strong. They use ceremonial grade matcha which is a must for me. Staff was friendly and my drink came out fast. Will definitely be coming back.

    Hojicha latte with salt crema

Very yummy! Got the hojicha with salt cheese crema and that was very very delish, cute vibe and staff were friendly but there are also self order kiosks so it's no interaction if that's something you care about. Overall good!

B3: One of their signature flavors, named for its blend of brown butter, brown sugar, and brownie. The ice cream was smooth and creamy, with the sweetness of the brown sugar and the nutty aroma of the brown butter blending harmoniously. Large chunks of brownie are interspersed throughout, their firm texture and slightly bitter dark chocolate contrasting beautifully with the ice cream, creating a layered effect. Deserving of the signature flavor! Earl Grey: Another signature flavor, but after tasting it for a while, I couldn't observe any tea flavor. I even wondered if the server had given me the wrong one The color didn't look like Earl Grey tea either. However, judging from the reviews, it probably does look like this. The milky flavor, though, was very rich. Burnt Caramel: It was my first time seeing "burnt caramel," which is essentially sugar caramelized to a higher temperature than caramel, resulting in a darker color and a richer, more intense bitterness. While I love bitterness, I felt it was a bit too much. Most importantly, the ice cream was noticeably stickier than the others, and the plastic scoop was too soft, making it difficult to scoop. Bourbon Street: Quite similar with B3, both using brown sugar and browned butter. However, the bourbon and praline made the overall flavor sweeter, lighter, and more in line with the classic creamy taste of ice cream. In other words, it was not as distinctive as the B3.

Toscanini happens to be one of the best ice cream shop in Cambridge and I really enjoy the different flavors they offer. My favorite in particular is B3 (Brown Sugar, Brown Butter, and Brownies) which you can get anywhere else. Sometimes, I choose another flavor that is unique to this shop such as Mango Sticky Rice. The ice cream is milkier than store brought and the flavors are true to the name. The micro is really small and I tend to get atleast a small or large depending on how much scoops I want. If you enjoy Ice Cream cakes or know someone that does, I really recommend preordering one for a birthday. Cute shop! Very happy that they return to their original location with a modern remodeling.

I've heard folks raving about this place for years, so finally decided to swing by and try it out…read more First off, must say I'm a bit of a skeptic regarding specialty ice cream shops: with one exception (a now-defunct "frozen custard" shop in Friendswood, Texas of all places, where you could see the super-dense/rich stuff glacially oozing out of the machine, and one milkshake's worth of it kept me full for the rest of the day!) I have yet to find any that are significantly better than ordinary Haagen Daz from a supermarket. In fact, most ice cream parlour ice creams aren't even as good, while costing orders of magnitude more than supermarket H-D! Toscanini's is close to equal to H-D in my book...and mainly for the fact that they offer some truly unusual and original flavors: we had the Mango Sticky Rice, Burnt Caramel, and Kulfi. My friend who enjoyed the first one the most, quickly tired of the second, and the third was my favorite by far, mainly because I love cardamom and saffron so much. I was somewhat conflicted with the Burnt Caramel...first taste was delightful, but halfway through the novelty faded away for the most part. We both appreciated that the ice cream was not hyper-sweet like JP Licks, though. HOWEVER, the extreme creaminess, density, and dry mouth-feel of H-D was just not there, as usual. I'd describe the texture of Toscanini's ice cream to be fairly ordinary, like a typical soft/smooth gelato texture. Not bad, but not anything I would really write home about. YMMV of course. Otherwise, service was good and the place is clean and pleasantly modern inside, with 3 nice new steel benches to sit at outside. The benches are curiously turned AWAY from the street, I suppose to foster more of a "communal" vibe and people-watching opportunities. I've walked by during peak hours and seen it quite full, so this place clearly is still quite popular. At $8.25 for 3 scoops (albeit fairly generous sized scoops) of oh, 8 out of 10 ice cream, I don't see myself ever becoming a regular here despite the undeniably interesting/unique flavors, unless I came mainly for the people-watching opps on a nice weather day.

My previous favorite was Amorino, but I think this place is a step above. The texture of the ice cream was superb--exquisitely smooth and creamy, yet not as sticky as Amorino. Coconut: Coconut ice cream in the U.S. is always legendary, but this was the pinnacle of the legendary. The aroma of coconut and milk was the richest I've ever tasted, and it felt very natural, with just the right amount of sweetness. Naked Yogurt: Similar in design to Amorino's Yogurt & 0% Fat Yogurt, both were pure, rich, and unsweetened yogurt, but this one had a more intense milky flavor. Espresso Mascarpone: The signature flavor. The bittersweet aroma of espresso was distinct yet mellow, but the presence of mascarpone cheese is limited. Very refreshing. Other flavors: Pistachio had a rich pistachio flavor and was a safe choice; Tiramisu and Dulce de Leche were both a bit too sweet. From this perspective, Amorino seems to offer a more well-rounded experience, but I still prefer the surprising quality of this place. The sorbets were all decorated with fruit, making them especially beautiful. If you try too many samples, the staff might get a little annoyed. I was reminded after trying the fourth flavor, so I reluctantly stopped.
