I thought this was fine - not amazing, not horrible. Located in a small food court near the Newbury Comics, Kyoyo Haus provides a mochi ice cream experience that is novel to the area, but overpriced and uses AI art for their menu which I strongly dislike. I tried the matcha and mango flavors, both if which are done well and taste nice, but the price tag is very high for such a small portion. I did like the little flavor bottle that came with each cup. I probably would go to a different dessert spot in the future, but I'm glad to see mochi ice cream is a choice for those looking for it.

We tried a few things here including the ube latte which was tiny and just okay. We also had the thai tea mochi ice cream. The mochi layer was dry and tough to eat, it made eating the ice cream very messy. The thai tea ice cream was okay but a little on the meltier and sweeter side, and it comes with some nice chewy boba. The lychee soft serve was probably the best thing we tried. It comes with some coconut jelly on the bottom too. I would probably come back to try more of the soft serve but skip everything else next time.

Service was nice and quick! Aesthetic of the desserts were simple and cute. Flavors were A-MAZING. I was in-love with the Hojicha icecream and mochi. This was my first time getting fresh mochi and it was so soft and chewy and paired perfectly with the Hojicha icecream. Highly recommend!! It's located in this fun little food hall to explore as well. If I'm ever in Boston again, I'm coming back!!

Wow this was so good! The mochi was so soft and chewy and the soft serve has a very robust flavor. The black sesame was rich and creamy while the mango was fruity and refreshing. A great place for a sweet treat!

A little pricy but the mochi and ice cream quality is good. The azuki milk ice cream tastes reminiscent of the white rabbit candy I had as a child and the mochi was a really nice texture. It came with a flavor syrup which honestly didn't add too much to the ice cream, not bad or good. I liked that they offer samples before you order, this helped me decide on the azuki milk because I've never heard of it before!

Top notch hojicha and black sesame soft serve, the flavors really come through compared to some other spots in town. If you're on the fence about trying kyoyo haus but like these two ice cream flavors it's worth trying out. The black sesame flavor is definitely one of the best ones I've had since the flavor is more bold. They give samples of their ice cream and you can even get some of the flavors swirled. I didn't know their ice cream came with a flavor syrup and coarse sugar sprinkled on top. Next time I'm going to ask to omit these since they didn't add anything to the ice cream.

I got their black sesame soft serve and it has the most robust, intense black sesame flavor, balanced perfectly with some sweetness. The texture of the soft serve is just right and if you eat it indoors it doesn't melt too quickly. The mochj ice cream is a bit of a novelty and pretty cool concept but I prefer just the soft serve by itself.

My friend and I came here and we LOVED it! They have a specialized set of mostly Japanese-inspired soft serve flavors, and any of them can be turned into a mochi ice cream. The staff let us try multiple flavors and we decided on getting the matcha soft serve and the milk tea mochi ice cream. The matcha flavor was delicious and the milk tea ice cream tasted exactly like milk tea. The mochi was soft and fresh. We felt that the servings were pretty generous and fairly priced. We'd definitely come back and try some of the other flavors! A small hidden gem in the Harvard Square food court.

One of those rare places that live up to the instagram hype! Kyoyo Haus is located within the Garage in Harvard Square on the first floor. They have a few shared tables with the other Garage restaurants. The menu has two options-- mochi ice cream or soft serve, with a bunch of flavors including matcha, black sesame, milk tea, honey, mango, and ube. We went with a group and tried the matcha, ube, milk tea, and honey, which were all incredible! They hand cover the ice cream with mochi and then add a little syringe with flavored oil for the aesthetic! The main and most important part was the mochi was incredible! So soft and stretchy and perfectly not too sweet. The ratio was also really good and you had a lot of mochi:ice cream. The flavors were super yummy-- matcha was my favorite but the honey was a surprise hit! It had a more creamy taste and wasn't too sweet. The milk tea was really good though a bit sweater. Overall I would absolutely come back here!

The term "Asian Inspired" can be automatically explained as "Americanized." Soft Serve Matcha: To be fair, the matcha itself is quite standard, not too sweet, and you can taste both its bitterness and aroma. But who can understand the despair emerged when I discovered that the red dropper and toppings were strawberry juice and white sugar respectively? Adding sugar directly because it wasn't sweet enough--do you really have to be so drastic...? The ice cream wasn't exactly "soft" either, you can clearly feel the lumps and ice crystals when scooping it.

Got the Hojicha soft serve mochi! Loved that they use soft serve for the mochi ice cream, such a great texture. Will be back to try other flavors!

I thought this was delicious! The mochi ice cream is $6.75 and that felt a little high for the size of the dish, but it is a tasty dining experience. The mochi is soft and chewy, and the ice cream was very flavorful! The location is a little lacking in the garage, but I'd visit again!

Great Japanese inspired soft serve and mochi ice cream! I appreciate the sweetness of all the ice cream flavors is just sweet enough rather than cloyingly sweet. I recommend the sesame, hojicha, and adzuki. Soft serve is $5.75 (w/o tax) and mochi ice cream is $6.75 (w/o tax). Service is really friendly and they explain their offerings. They also offer free samples of the different flavors to help you decide which one best works for you. This is located in the Garage and shares dining space with a bunch of different food vendors.

Tiramisu: Although not Southeast Asian, it's equally excellent! The coffee infused the cake, and the cream was smooth and creamy. The one time we ordered the ube cake this didn't happen, and I think I recall it came with a stiff plastic sheet around it to help with structural integrity. Been wanting to give this place a try for a month after seeing gorgeous pictures of their pastries…read moreon instagram lately. I stopped by on a Sunday early morning right after they had opened and tried several items on display including a plain croissant, a pear danish, blueberry danish, and a valentine raspberry special bowtie. While the pastries looked pretty for instagram, they all needed a LOT more work. Everything here left me sad. There were no flakes, no crumble, and no crisp to the pastries (just soft, limp, sadness). The danishes here are also not cheap, with the blueberry danish being $8. According to the staff, all the danishes had come out fresh out of the oven JUST 30 minutes ago. Can only imagine how much more disappointing the pastries would've been for the people that came in after me. Save yourself a trip here and go to Michette, Lakon, Colette, Cremux Patisserie, SALT, or Little L instead if you're looking for a solid danish or croissant. Will not be back.

Good crunch to the bite, sending flaky shrapnel everywhere, but yielding to the tender center. Somewhat buttery. Chocolate croissant: Not as gigantic, but a steal at under $5. Not warm but very fresh, very flaky and delicate, cracking more intensely in the bite with even more shrapnel. Underneath, a very light and fluffy feel, along with a very buttery taste. Not greasy at all; just great flavor, and that's not even counting the dark chocolate, which was understated but effective. Pain au Raisin: Again flaky, but a bit (only a bit) on the dry side, even with the noticeably custardy notes. Good flavor to the dough. Minimal glaze if any. A rung or two lower on the impressiveness scale than the almond and chocolate croissants, but still solid. Blueberry Danish: Nice pastry, many layers, light, crisp and delicate, while still being soft and buttery. Good flavor to the dough and faintly glazed. Surprisingly, the crispness lasted well into the early evening, when tried as a take-home item. Lots of blueberries, fresh and not too fussed with, along with a bit of blueberry compote. No gimmicks, no bombast, just good stuff. Looking forward to a quick return. On my mental shopping list to encompass a few visits: chocolate almond croissant, chocolate chip cookie dough croissant (aka "cookie" and the only gimmicky item I saw), apricot danish, pear danish, pain suisse, and babka.

This is their policy and it's fine, just seems wasteful. This also makes it hard to try the unique flavors :( I wouldn't have had an issue (since it's their own policy) but the replacement portion was way smaller. I'm not sure if the staff was having a bad day or not, but it seemed like asking for a replacement flavor was purposefully made uncomfortable to deter you from asking? (P.S. Paying $6 for very little portions plus not having samples of flavors seems counterintuitive.) Also, Horchata is a rice based drink (with its main liquid being milk, water is also added though), so how can that be a vegan option? If they were able to actually have it taste like Horchata (with or without milk) that would've been fine, but it tasted like water + cinnamon. This was the flavor that brought me to this place so I was disappointed :( Overall, I might come back for the Cold Brew and Brown Sugar Vanilla flavors when I want a sweet treat (there are other sweet places for a better price and experience). My recommendation is to go with the Liege waffle with berries and your pick of any other toppings. With a cozy atmosphere and the smell of warm waffles, this is an especially good spot during the colder months, but still a favorite in the warmer months too. ------ FOOD: THE LIEGE (5/5) The Liege waffle is the classic here and the one I'd recommend. Sweet, thick, and a richer snack (i.e. the satisfying treat you're probably looking for if you're stopping by a waffle shop). All of the topping combos are classic, and the berries they use here are high quality. Waffles come out hot and fresh after just being made, so if you order ice cream or whipped cream, know that you'll have to eat quickly if you don't want it to melt into the waffle. THE BRUSSELS (4.5/5) Besides the Liege, the Brussels waffle is an interesting choice and very different from the Liege. As the menu describes, it's definitely significantly lighter, and it's crispier in a different way (not from the caramelization of the pearl sugar but from crisped up batter similar to an Ego waffle). It's extremely delicate, so I'd recommend just doing some powdered sugar and maybe a chocolate drizzle or some whipped cream. ------ ENVIRONMENT / AMBIANCE: * Small shop on the edge of Harvard Square. Some window seating and a few small tables best for groups of 2 - 4. * Given how small it is inside, finding a seat during peak hours can be particularly challenging, and lines can be out the door too. ------ SERVICE: * Order at the kiosk and then find a seat (if you can). When a waffle is done, they'll call a name and come to you once you indicate that it's for you. * Water and utensils are self-service, and the expectation is that you put your plates, utensils, and cups away in a bin inside by the counter.

The ultimate sweetness is evident from the ingredients. Every bite offered a different layer of flavor. But most importantly, it was really sweet, and sweetness is the most soul-stirring enjoyment. It was sweet enough to bring peace, allowing you to temporarily escape the world and focus on this plate of beautiful fairytale. Café au Lait (Latte): Beautifully layered, with a natural milky aroma.
