I had seen this place on Rednote, and decided to give it a go at the time passing by. Overall, it was pretty good; the flavors were quite interesting, and the portions were generous. B3: One of their signature flavors, named for its blend of brown butter, brown sugar, and brownie. The ice cream was smooth and creamy, with the sweetness of the brown sugar and the nutty aroma of the brown butter blending harmoniously. Large chunks of brownie are interspersed throughout, their firm texture and slightly bitter dark chocolate contrasting beautifully with the ice cream, creating a layered effect. Deserving of the signature flavor! Earl Grey: Another signature flavor, but after tasting it for a while, I couldn't observe any tea flavor. I even wondered if the server had given me the wrong one The color didn't look like Earl Grey tea either. However, judging from the reviews, it probably does look like this. The milky flavor, though, was very rich. Burnt Caramel: It was my first time seeing "burnt caramel," which is essentially sugar caramelized to a higher temperature than caramel, resulting in a darker color and a richer, more intense bitterness. While I love bitterness, I felt it was a bit too much. Most importantly, the ice cream was noticeably stickier than the others, and the plastic scoop was too soft, making it difficult to scoop. Bourbon Street: Quite similar with B3, both using brown sugar and browned butter. However, the bourbon and praline made the overall flavor sweeter, lighter, and more in line with the classic creamy taste of ice cream. In other words, it was not as distinctive as the B3. read more

Toscanini happens to be one of the best ice cream shop in Cambridge and I really enjoy the different flavors they offer. My favorite in particular is B3 (Brown Sugar, Brown Butter, and Brownies) which you can get anywhere else. Sometimes, I choose another flavor that is unique to this shop such as Mango Sticky Rice. The ice cream is milkier than store brought and the flavors are true to the name. The micro is really small and I tend to get atleast a small or large depending on how much scoops I want. I waited a few minutes, made it clear I was ready to order, and was completely ignored while two staff carried on their conversation right in front of me. When I asked about sampling a flavor, I was told there's no sampling. After pointing out the "dirty spoon" containers, one staffer snapped back, "Not if you stand there looking at the menu for 15 minutes!" Then, when I gave my order, he cut me off with: "Hey, hey, hold the fuck up, what the fuck are you saying? You gotta f'in slow down." It's hard to be unhappy when in Tosci's - nothing like the child-like excitement of picking out which flavor of ice cream and waiting in anticipation of the first bite. I've been a loyal New City Microcreamery (practically right next door) customer so I will have to make some difficult decisions every time I want ice cream. The ice cream here isn't as sweet as the one at New City, and has a smoother texture whereas the New City one is thick. The pints here are cheaper ($8.50 for one, $16 for two). I loved the butter chip flavor which had such a rich flavor and a lot of chocolate pieces! I love that they have so many "toasty/buttery" flavors on their menu like salty caramel, burnt caramel, butter chip, and B3 (brown butter, brown sugar, brownies). I love Toscanini's! I have been only a few times, but I definitely recommend. It is a great spot in central square in Cambridge for ice cream. There is street parking as well as easy access to the red line. There are a few tables for seating. I went around 10pm after dinner Saturday night and there weren't any tables available, so we just took it to go. The layout and ice cream counter are simple and easy to follow. They have a chalk menu that looks like it is updated daily with available flavors. They've got a huge variety of flavors and size options. I got the small (2 flavors) with the B3 and Kulfi. The B3 is brown butter, brown sugar and brownies (practically fudge). The Kulfi is a cardamom ice cream with pistachios and almonds. Both were incredible - creamy and flavorful with generous amounts of brownie and nuts. Reasonable price given the quality and I was content with a small. The staff were very friendly and chatty and let me get free samples (I tried 3 other flavors). Overall, I recommend Toscanini's for amazing ice cream. There are plenty of restaurants around, so it makes for the perfect dessert. read more
