Searching for something sweet, I found this Asian bakery, cafe, which had a wide selection of mostly sweets as well as various coffee and tea-based beverages. Since I was getting a cake, I figured a straight matcha with oat milk (rather than one of the fancy flavored ones) would be the right move. It lasted me a while and delivered a straightforward green flavor, while my fancy-looking Thai tea cake was indulgent and moist. The place pretty much delivered everything I asked for. They did have some dedicated parking behind the shop, and it was a neighborhood with weird angles and parking rules, so that might be worth seeking out.
Stopped in for a sweet treat after a long day and oh it hit the spot! I love the Pandan coconut cake: bite sized, single serving, light, creamy and not too sweet. Second favorite is the ube cake: tastes like authentic ube flavor, thick and creamy. The ube latte I would probably not order again as it is way too sweet for me. They have a variety of non caffeinated drinks and sandwiches. The black sesame croissant looked tasty so I will probably order it next time. Street parking is limited. I found a spot but only for 15min so I would come early to find parking.
Use drink was super super super delicious. I dont really know what I got but I loved it, the staff had excellent recommendations. I really wish I was hungry, too, because the food and pastries inside the shop looked incredible. The ambience is bright and fresh, with some seating! I would definitely be back.
Exquisite as expected. We stopped here for celebratory dessert and wanted to try something we hadn't eaten before so we got the coconut pandan cake and the hot ube latte. The cake was delicious and had not only whipped cream but also a custard-y layer to it. The ube latte was yummy too, hit the spot on a cold windy day. I know it says latte but it doesn't have any coffee in it FYI. Ambiance is a very pleasant vibe, we sat in a sunny corner enjoying it drinks and dessert for an hour or so. Highly recommend!
So friendly and easy to work with! We ordered 2 basque cheesecakes and they were beautiful and delicious, rich, creamy, and not overly sweet. They have a great selection of pastries, will definitely be back!
Maprang has been a great addition to Union Sq. I always get excited to get their Ube latte, ube basque cheesecake and a classic - the chocolate chip cookie. It's a small cafe with a few table and chairs but also a standing wall table. The staff is always friendly when I visit.
Cute Thai owned bakery! I got the: -pandan tea: super refreshing and the pandan flavor is definitely there! I loved this. -ube cake: not too sweet = best compliment! It was delicious, cake was fluffy and super cute -pandan cake: again, love how the pandan flavor is there! Doesn't taste like the artificial stuff. Service was fast and it's cute inside
My partner and I shared an iced pandan drink - TASTE: 5/5 - I love pandan, and this drink nailed it! Strong flavor that had me addicted lol. Such an amazing cafe! I got the Thai tea cake, carrot cake, Oreo ball, and strawberry Thai tea latte with oat milk. I absolutely loved that they had a little picture menu of all the fun drinks/flavor combos you could order. I've never had a Thai tea latte before and this one was so good. The cakes were so tasty as well. I loved the fall theme here. Will have to go back when there's a geometric pumpkin cake available (they recommend calling ahead to confirm it's there)
This place is on a street with a bunch of shops and they have 15 minute parking specifically to help these businesses. We got lucky and got one of those 15 minute spots, love that parking set up! The prices were more than I expected, so I only got six items, but after bringing them home and trying them all? I have serious regrets not getting more. My partner loves strawberry shortcake and says this is as good as it gets. It is so light and fluff, the strawberry is the star of the show, the cream and sponge are still soft and delicate and sweet, the perfect backup to the strawberries. Also huge shout out to the cashier who packaged the cakes. She put so much care into packaging them prettily. We watched her fold the box together, it had a cute cat sticker to close it, and she taped the pastry base down so it didn't slide in the box. We also got the little mushroom hand pie and chicken curry hand pie. Not sure if they're called hand pies? I'm so sorry I didn't get a photo of those, but they were so adorable. Perfectly laminated dough and the crimping on all the edges, fillings were sweet, and I could eat one of those for breakfast for the rest of my life and be content.
Tried Maprang Bakery & Cafe for the first time today and already wish it was closer to home! I ordered a matcha latte and a strawberry thai iced tea, both were great. The matcha latte was perfectly balanced, not too sweet or bitter, and the strawberry thai tea had a stronger strawberry flavor than thai tea, but it was refreshing and enjoyable. I also picked up three cakes: the thai tea and coffee cakes for a friend, and the strawberry matcha cake for myself and my boyfriend. My friend said the Thai tea cake was "so good", definitely a hit. We had the strawberry matcha cake a couple hours later and it was still delicious. The cake was moist, the matcha flavor wasn't overpowering, and the strawberries tasted super fresh. There's a big variety of drinks on the menu, so I definitely want to come back and try more. Everyone was also very friendly, which made the experience even better. If only they were closer to home, I'd be a regular!
I ordered alot from here because I wanted to try everything! Lol. My favorite was the coconut chiffon it was very light and fluffy. I liked the thai tea and tiramisu cream, but the cakes were very dry. If it was more moist it would have been perfect!! The tiramisu cream was very flavorful and full of coffee taste which was delicious. Service was good too and the staffs were very friendly. I would definitely come try again, just hope they can see this review and improve more in the cake so it is not so dry. read more

This place is officially one of my favorite cafes!! I came on a Sunday and it was packed- it's a pretty small space so don't be surprised if you can't grab a table during peak hours. The workers are SUPER friendly and don't make you feel rushed even if there's a long line. I got the thai iced tea, which had a strong tea flavor and wasn't too sweet; exactly what I wanted. I decided to try their basque cheesecake as well. Oh my gosh! So light, fluffy and still very creamy- I think this may be my favorite place to get cheesecake. Definitely check this local spot out; it's in such a convenient location and a very cute cafe! read more

an absolute somerville gem! I love their Thai tea and matcha and their pastries and have never tried anything from here that I didn't immediately love! Service is amazing and it's the perfect place to stop and grab something before enjoying the spring/summer weather! read more
This is such a cute new cafe/bakery in the area! They have a lot of classic bakery items and drinks (croissants, espresso, etc), as well as other cakes/pastries and drinks that have Southeast Asian flavors. I decided to try their strawberry matcha latte ($6.15) with oat milk (+$0.50). The drink had a strong matcha flavor but I thought the strawberry flavor could be stronger. Overall the drink wasn't too sweet even with the strawberry syrup. I'd love to try some of their cakes in the future, which look super cute and tasty! read more

I had the best cheesecake of my LIFE here. The store is small so not a lot of seating but you can just take ur things to bow market and eat it there if you can't find a spot in the store. Anyways the CHEESECAKE. Perfect thickness and density. A hint of tartness from the cream cheese. Consistent all the way through. Perfect amount of sweetness. THIS is what I imagine when I think about cheesecake. I wanna go again. I wanna buy a whole cake. I wanna live inside of the cake. Such a cute family-owned bakery in Union Square! We came here to pick up a birthday cake and ended up also trying some small desserts and drinks. Our cake was gorgeous and perfectly-sized for a family celebration with eight people (with leftover). The cake was incredibly fluffy, filled with a delicious pandan cream. It was easy for me to eat a large slice since it was so light! After ordering, the staff were so helpful and friendly, and had our drinks prepped quickly! I especially loved the matcha. They also had many desserts to choose from and I'm looking forward to trying more next time we come. They even added an adorable cartoon on our take out bag to celebrate the new year :) With their cafe seating, I imagine this bakery is a great place to relax or study while sipping on yummy drinks! read more

Small bakery located next to Reliable Market with Asian flavors, as well as some more standard bakery fare. I previously came here during their soft opening and enjoyed their Vietnamese iced coffee and came back this time to try some of their desserts as a friend had highly recommended one of their cakes. We tried the coconut pandan cake, Thai tea cake, and basque cheesecake. All were very good - cheesecake was super creamy while not as heavy as traditional cheesecake, and the coconut pandan and Thai tea cakes tasted true to the advertised flavors without being too sweet. Friendly service overall. As I was leaving I ordered a couple extra desserts to go and was overcharged initially, however they reviewed it and were able to fix the mistake. read more

I stopped by before dinner at An Nam to pick up my order through Grubhub because some of the cake will be sold out. I ordered the basque cheesecake, coconut chiffon, coconut pandan cake, thai tea cake, and mango yuzu mousse cake. I brought ube and strawberry flavors when I got there since these weren't available through Grubhub. The cakes aren't too sweet and have unique Asian flavors that few bakeries offer. My favorite is the coconut pandan and Thai tea. read more

Super cute cafe with Thai roots -- ask the worker what "maprang" means. The coconut chiffon cake is fluffy with the perfect balance of pandan taste and color. We also thought the Vietnamese coffee had a rich taste that wasn't overly sweet; you can tell it is brewed fresh. read more
The space is quaint and fun to be in. The staff are very nice and will answer any questions about the delicious desserts made with care. We enjoyed the Thai Tea Eclair which was filled with tasty Thai tea filling. Not too sweet and fresh! We also had a Thai Tea drink and matcha which were all made fresh to order and we did not wait long at all! It was fun to learn that Maprang is a small fruit and is like a mini mango! We will be back to try more of the delicious, beautiful desserts! read more
Maprang is the cutest addition we can have in Union Square. I had a chance to speak with the baker, who said she learned how to make these cakes from Youtube. She was very sweet and answered all my questions while also providing her recommendations as to what was popular. I tried their Thai tea cake, Mango Yuzu Mousse, and coconut chiffon cake. The Thai tea cake tastes true to its name. I wish it had slightly less cream and more cake, but I still enjoyed it nonetheless. The mango yuzu mousse was soooo pretty. It almost made it too pretty to eat. I could taste the mango and yuzu flavor, and it was not overwhelming. It was light and not sour nor overly sweet. My favorite was honestly the coconut chiffon cake. There is real coconut in this cake, and it makes it so much more moist and better. I would stop by and try some of the other desserts. read more
Been here a couple times now and I've also ordered two full size cakes from here. The cafe is small, but it's very cute. The Vietnamese iced coffee is just okay - it doesn't give me that caffeine rush like the traditional one. It does taste like it's made with just espresso. I would get the matcha latte again. I asked for it with almond milk and a touch of sweetness and it was so good! The coconut pandan cake was delicious. Light and mildly sweet. I got the full size cake for a family birthday and they all loved it. Also got the full size carrot cake and it was very good too! Service is friendly and efficient. There is a parking lot in the back too which is nice. read more

Loved the desserts! I would've preferred the Vietnamese iced coffee to have sweet condensed milk in it, but they have sweet syrup available to apply yourself! Available bathroom, fast service. It's a little cramped inside but still cozy. If I lived closer I would definitely be a regular. read more

Lovely little cafe in Union. The owners are very nice and the service is excellent. I really liked my drink, but wasn't the largest fan of the dessert. The passion fruit mousse could use more passion fruit as it was mostly frosting. The coffee cake was excellent. read more

They are tops in service and flavor! I ordered a whole Pandan coconut cake and a whole matcha strawberry cake for my daughter's graduation. Due to a mix up, we didn't pick up before closing time. But the owners were kind enough to stay late well past closing to ensure we could get the cakes! The cakes themselves were beautiful, tasty, and not too sweet. The coconut cream in the Pandan cake was out of this world. All in all, I highly recommend Maprang! read more

I came here because of the nice looking desserts. They actually taste very good too. The mango yuzu mousse is mango moose with yuzu paste in the middle. It's so good. Their cheese cake is good too. They are not like the ones in the US or Japan. It's a bit different and tastes a bit salty in a good way. It tastes best when it's cold. I'll definitely want to come back here and try more. Service is good too. They have some seating inside. read more
Wow, just wow. The place deserves 5 stars just for the cakes they serve. We had the thai tea and coconut pandan. The cakes are some of the best Asian inspired cakes I've ever had. Fluffy, light and not too sweet. We also got Thai tea latte and Vietnamese coffee. The drinks are decent, but nothing special. Vietnamese coffee doesn't taste like it. it's lacking the condensed milk taste.the service was very good. There are a few small tables if you want to dine in, but it is more ideal for smaller groups or takeout. read more

I had the best ube latte of my life here! I came for the fluff festival and ordered an ube latte with fluff. For an extra cute touch they even made little ghost faces on the fluff. The latte had a nice coconut undertone and was just sweet enough. I can't wait to come back here! read more

I love love love that this bakery exists. Trying to find good unique asian flavor cakes is soo hard to find within boston. Coconut pandan 5/5 - my friends think pandan flavor can be a little stronger, but other than that I think that the chunks of fresh coconut in the middle layer is so unique and soo so so so good. Thai tea cake (not pictured)- the thai tea cake is also really good and well balanced and actually tastes like im eating thai tea in cake form. My friend said the matcha latte was really good 5/5. I can't wait to come back and try more! I really want to try their purple yam cake, but they didn't have it today. What a cute cafe! The owners are super friendly. I am trying to limit sugar intake so the owner was able to reduce as much sugar as possible (sugar mixed in already but he was able to adjust it by adding more milk). The bobas are chewy yay! The cakes are so pretty and two of the 3D design cakes are similar to the shop on Newbury St but this cafe has better filling (mango yuzu mousse!) I am very happy to stumble across the bakery as they offer interesting Asian flavors (ube, pandan, etc). Next time I have to come here hungry so I can sample their pastry selections. The ham and cheese tart is airy and light, way better than ham and cheese crossaints I have been eating at other shops. Check out their custom cake designs on Facebook! I may have to put in a cake order soon because they are so beautiful. Few tables for dine and I believe parking is either metered or maybe shared with reliabale market in the back? And a huge thank you for the owner who rushed out to return phone that was left behind on the counter. read more

Love this cafe! I live in Hainan, China before, and really enjoyed pandan dessert. This coconut pandan cake reminds of home. The pandan chiffon is so fresh and light, just tastes like spring. And it's my first time to try Vietnamese coffee. It's kinda smoky but flavorful. Love it Gonna try Thai tea cake next time! read more
