A coworker brought in some cakes to share at work and they were INCREDIBLE. None of the cakes were overly sweetened, which really allowed the flavors to shine. There was a great variety (carrot cake, strawberry shortcake, key lime, etc.) and they were all very fluffy and very thoughtfully decorated. Couldn't be happier to have this new bakery in Union Square. Ordered cupcakes for a wedding / baby celebration for coworkers. They were spectacularly pretty and delicious. Buttercream frosting that is rich but not cloyingly sweet. Interesting flavors (hello coconut pandan!) that are subtle but shine through. The staff was absolutely lovely to work with and wanted to meet my needs. They are new to the business and working through new processes but I never felt inconvenienced by it. I love this place! I've been wanting more Asian bakeries/sweets stores in the area, and I only recently noticed Maprang here. I've only ever gotten the Thai iced tea here but it's amazing. Alright. If no one knows, there's parking in the back around the corner with direct access to the back entrance. Second. The carrot cake. Like a whole order of a 6-9" carrot cake is to die for, on top of being beautiful. I recommend leaving the cake out 10-15 minutes or longer for the butter cream on the outside to soften, while leaving the inside cold to serve. Every bite melts in your mouth. They've been absolutely delicious and I've ordered the whole cakes at least 4-5 times. The mini cakes are a good taste test in case you want to taste test. Do keep in mind the mini cakes won't have the same level of moistness and bounciness as the whole cakes. I one thousand percent recommend ordering their cakes. The Banoffi in a small serving cup is a solid choice in my book. It's like a banana foster. So if you like that, you'll love this. The Viet coffee, I don't recommend unless you're going for a normal latte. It doesn't have any hint of a normal Viet coffee. Black coffee was good. Thai tea, can't go wrong. read more

Super cute new bakery in the heart of Union Sq! Delicious pastries and such an array of options in their glass displays - it was hard to make a decision! We ended up choosing the blueberry cheesecake and coconut (pandan) chiffon cupcakes, both of which were absolutely delicious. Love that the display has baked goods stacked on top of electrical engineering textbooks, a call-out to what the owner had studied (according to our cashier) in college haha. Will definitely return soon to try more of their baked goods and drinks! read more

Absolutely perfect in every way. They happily accommodated a catering order, working with me to get everything just right. They even let me do a large carry-out carton of Vietnamese iced coffee, which I expected to only be able to order individually. When I picked up my order they were so friendly and helpful; they helped me load it into the car and even made me an extra green tea latte! I only briefly saw the interior, but it was adorable and seemed like a great place to chill or meet someone. The desserts were a HUGE hit, there was nothing left by the end of my event. We got the basque cheesecake, green tea and red bean cake, Thai tea cake, coconut chiffon, and Oreo balls (which were shaped like adorable mouse heads!!! ). I can't express how beautifully presented everything was; I wish I got a photo before everything was devoured but I didn't have time. Of the desserts, I only got to try the coconut chiffon, but it was transcendent. And the green tea latte was the best I've ever had, and not super sweet. They seriously elevated my event to the next level (or 3), and I will 100% order catering from them in the future. I want Maprang to make every dessert I have for the rest of my life. read more

I stopped in on the way back from the post office and brought home a blueberry cheesecake slice, a lemon tart, and a chocolate croissant. All were delicious and had beautiful, guest-worthy presentation. The staff was really nice and the service was quick. The interior had a fresh, warm, minimal look: wood finishes, flowers, etc. They don't have any seating right now, but there might be a stand-up cafe bar, or that might have just been a ledge for decor - I don't actually remember! The prices were very reasonable for the quality ($8 for the cheesecake, $5 for the other pastries), and they do take credit cards. I will definitely be back, and am looking forward to trying the coffee, the spinach & cheese croissants, and the fruit tarts next. read more
