Pricy, Hit or Miss: This is a classic donut shop, with a slightly upscale interior compared to the factory produced donut shops that grace many of America's strip malls. I am healthily skeptical of any place trying to make a donut something more than what it should be. I feared this with Union Square, but was invited in by the mystery of well crafted names and compelling flavor profiles. Service was neither good nor bad, I was a little surprised that the person working the cash register was unable to assist the two people in the back and just grab the three donuts I ordered, but perhaps its this kind of front line discipline allows them to survive the rush of early morning donut enthusiasts. The Nuts: I ordered the honey glaze chocolate, honey glaze graham cracker, vegan vanilla with sprinkles. - Honey Glaze Chocolate: "A DoNot": A dense donut, not light and airy, light on the Chocolate flavor and, most damagingly, it was dry. The frosting was there and little else. - Vegan Vanilla with Sprinkles: "A fine donut": The cake was spongy, moist enough, but a little chewy (which I believe is a plague of most vegan baked goods). Frosting was unremarkable, somewhat buoyed by the sprinkles. - The Honey Glaze Graham Cracker: "A happy little accident": I accidentally ordered this donut, but sometimes God steps in. The cake was moist and delicious. The Frosting was perhaps a little heavy on some kind of sugar, powdered? But the frosting proved to be an interesting medley of classic vanilla with just enough engaging graham cracker. I got to slightly taste the magic that likely propelled this small shop to a local chain. But as they have expanded I am sure quality control has become an issue. Had to come back to update my review! Dubai Chocolate donut is the best donut in my opinion and It's probably the longest reigning special promo donut. I've been buying one each week as a "just-in-case they discontinue it without warning" because sometimes they'll announce the end the date of their donuts and sometimes you get a "new flavor alert" post and you're not sure which one they're replacing till you check their menu. Here are more added to my fave list since my last review: Oatmeal cream pie - this is a must have whenever they release it Baklava - I haven't seen this one since 2022 but hope it comes back Red velvet - this is usually around valentines. Been saying this for years and after yet another annoying morning of having the lid just pop right off my coffee - I will say it again until my gift card runs out - GET BETTER LIDS. Find one brand that works great and stick with it or something. Can't get a coffee for a morning walk bc it drips out the side of the lid and I'm walking with espresso dripping on my hand the whole time which is gross and annoying. Can't even depend on it not to drip down the side in the cup holder on my car's console. And I'm tired of it popping off and losing a coffee at least every 1 in 7. Not to mention the stains on my jeans or shoes bc who would even expect that to happen? It's quite something when I come into work and why I have coffee splatters on the shin of my denims then say, oh you got USD today? I don't come here for donuts. Only caffeine. Chocolate covered donut was amazing. Maybe best ever. Quick service, no line on a Saturday afternoon. I was not as in love with the raspberry filled donut. The donut itself was excellent- light and good flavor. It had a lot of filing and it was jam, so it was heavy. It's a preference thing for me- I like jelly. My husband found this donut shop and surprised me with it on Mother's Day. Cute little place with some great flavors and great looking donuts. Here's what I got: 1. Strawberry daiquiri- man do I love a strawberry donut! This one had a great flavor and it was quite pretty. What I didn't like was the edges of frosting rolled in sugar crystals like an alcoholic beverage. I get the idea but this made the donut experience very crunchy and I was not a fan of that. 2. Very happy to support a local business The not so good: I like donuts that are light and fluffy and melt, these are not light or fluffy and do not melt. There is cinnamon in all of the donuts? This really threw me off especially with the honey glazed, they have a old fashioned donut taste, not the flavors you would expect. The red velvet was dry and tasted of fried (like oil), would not recommend this flavor at all. There were several other creative options like the sea salt whiskey and pomegranate as well. I have one in my neighborhood and will be sad when I move! The donuts are yummy with a rotating selection and a couple constant classics. People that work there are super nice and helpful. There's room to sit and eat if you like- but I like to walk home and heat my donut up. My favorite is the vegan cinnamon sugar (I'm not vegan) because the texture is so soft. I disagree with the review saying they're too greasy. Maybe they don't know how donuts are made? I've also tried a take&bake garlic bread and it was pretty good! The sugar donut is amazing! So so good! I love how the donuts come in a pizza box, very cute. The vibe of the shop is very artisan and simple. I appreciate how the donut flavors are all on display so it's easy to figure out what you'd like. However, when I got my dark chocolate donut today and my fiancé and I split it to try, there must've been some cross contamination with the peppermint brownie donut because the chocolate frosting on our donut tasted very peppermint. My fiancé was like "wait, does that taste like peppermint to you?" And yup! We both hate peppermint, I think it's disgusting, I feel like I'm eating toothpaste.
