    Apple fritter and Boston creme
    Joe P.

Love the concept! As the name suggests, you walk up to back door and place an order through a half door window. As we were in Boston, we got a Boston Cream and we also got an Apple Fritter bc that seemed to be the thing to get. The fritter is HUGE although the BC was a tad undersized. Both came out of warming trays, which is why I gave them 5 stars. Love a warm donut!! And the fritter was very good too! Little bits of apple baked in. Will definitely be back next time we are in Boston!

I love the set up of back door donuts!! Where else can you get donuts late night like this? Its so fun! We went to a sox game and then partied with the Scots after and before we went home we stopped at back door donuts. We got a variety of donuts and thought they were great! I love that they were warm. Not the best donuts i've ever had but after some drinks they really hit the spot. The apple fritter is the best one!

Love that it was open late because who doesn't want a donut after a red Sox game or after a concert or after/during a night of drinking? Unfortunately the donuts were meh....nothing amazing. I tried a raised and cake and neither wowed me. They were both a little dry and flavorless...tasted like they were sitting around for a while.

Donuts were dry af when we got them, but it was pretty late at night though. Lots of different flavor options, ordered at the window and got them really quick and ate them off the hood of a friend's car.

Wow!! Fresh donuts -- so soft and delicious!!! Lucked out after a concert and got in line when it was short-- but boy did it get longer!!

Cheers to Honey Dipped and Buttermilk Glaze donuts!

Best donut i ever had. If I'm in Boston at night, I'm going straight there. Line gets long though.

The cupcakes tasted amazing, too! The cake part wasn't super-moist, so it held its shape and tasted great, but the frosting was the real star. The frosting on the lemon cupcake was intensely lemony, and the chocolate frosting was rich and smooth. I and the other non-vegans at the party couldn't tell that they were vegan, and our host was delighted to know that there is a bakery nearby that caters to her needs. I'll definitely be coming back to try the regular cupcakes soon!

We had family coming from all across the country, and had rented a boat, and were planning to pick up the cupcakes and bring them on board so we could celebrate on the ship. We were traveling from out of state and were planning to arrive a bit sooner than expected, so I called the shop and asked to pick them up an hour early. I was told this was not an option, as they would not be ready. Totally fine, I understand that change was last minute. We decided to stick with our original 2:00 pickup time. 15 minutes before the scheduled pickup time, I received a call stating that they were an hour behind. I told the owner that this would be an issue, given that our boat left at 3:00. She offered to do free delivery, which we accepted. I provided the address and reiterated that we were leaving at 3:00, so we would need them before that time. She said she would call me when she arrived. 3:00 came and went, and our boat set sail, with no cupcakes. At 4:15, I received a phone call saying "I'm here with the cupcakes. I hope you guys aren't on the boat that's leaving!" We had left over an hour before... I explained that we were in the middle of the water, and reiterated that I told her numerous times we were leaving at 3, to which she said "she didn't understand that." Not quite sure how I could have been more clear about that, but I digress. She asked what we wanted to do and offered a refund, which we accepted. Disappointed is an understatement. When someone is turning 80 years old, you don't know how many birthdays they have left, and you want to make it special for them. This whole experience definitely put a damper on the day.

First of all, the pastry case just beautifully displays all the baked goods. It's quite a sight to see! I love the variety and flavors, very unique. If you know what you want, gotta get in line and grab it quick! If you wanna put in your own order, you can use the kiosk, which is really fun to use. I ordered a chai with oat milk (it's very light in flavor) and got a bialy. Honestly I had not had a bialy in over 25+ years... and was surprised to see it in the case and I had to have it. A corn + cheddar bialy. It did NOT disappoint. I also got london fog with oat milk previously, also very nice, but this place was soooo good we had to come back. My daughter loves pop tarts so when she saw it in the case, she got a blueberry pop tart and said it was very flakey and the jam was very jamful. It was the-last-one, even had the sign stuck in it!! She also got the french toast (2 slices) with kid's milk and said it was the best french toast she's ever had. My sis got a chocolate pain suisse, which I had never seen before. It's basically brioche filled with pastry cream and chocolate. It looked delicious and with coffee, my sis ate the whole thing up. All in all, this place has so much delicious eats.. I can understand if you live here, you could come every morning and still not get to everything in the pastry case! Definitely be back if we're in the Boston area again.

It was a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream and chocolate ganache, topped with raspberries. First of all, it was beautiful! My mom ordered a heart shaped cake which was perfect for the holiday. The ganache was shiny and rich, the raspberries on top were perfectly fresh, and when we cut into it, I was blown away by all the layers (the more layers, the more frosting!). I didn't tell any of my friends at first that the cake was gluten-free, and all they had to say was how rich, chocolatey, and moist the layers were. They could not believe it when I told them! My favorite part, though, had to be the buttercream frosting. I consider myself a frosting expert, and this was by far the best I have ever had. I wish I could by cans of this stuff, in bulk. It was unbelievably smooth and just the right amount of sweet, with a real vanilla flavor. The bottom line: whether you're gluten-free or not, Gracie Cakes is the way to go!

Then I got to the display case. The pastry jewels behind that classic bakery glass made everything else disappear. For stomach-room's sake, I limited myself to two options, but honestly, I could've happily sampled a dozen. Everything I tried was delicious, and the hardest part of the experience was deciding what not to order. Bova's is exactly the kind of bakery you hope to stumble upon while traveling.
