SO GOOD! These taste so fresh not greasy at all. The glazed and strawberry lemonade were my favorites

Ordered: Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch, Sea Salted Bourbon Caramel, Vietnamese Coffee, Toasted Coconut, Honey Glaze If I could only describe these donuts in one word, it would be: disappointing. It was my first time in Boston, so I wanted to try them. The texture of the donuts was soft and fluffy, but they lacked flavor and were definitely not worth the hype. The only donuts that weren't bland were the Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch and Toasted Coconut. read more

The sugar donut is amazing! So so good! I love how the donuts come in a pizza box, very cute. The vibe of the shop is very artisan and simple. I appreciate how the donut flavors are all on display so it's easy to figure out what you'd like. However, when I got my dark chocolate donut today and my fiancé and I split it to try, there must've been some cross contamination with the peppermint brownie donut because the chocolate frosting on our donut tasted very peppermint. My fiancé was like "wait, does that taste like peppermint to you?" And yup! We both hate peppermint, I think it's disgusting, I feel like I'm eating toothpaste. We have another chocolate frosted donut in our box we are saving to eat tomorrow and I'm hoping it's not peppermint flavored either :( read more

I got doughnuts for a bunch of coworkers and it was a hit in the office! Boston Cream was solid, the mint chocolate one was good too! Great customer service and the order ahead was really user friendly. My order was ready when I got there. read more

Union square donuts are the bomb.com.  We ordered through Uber Eats, and they arrived in perfect condition and safely boxed.  They warm up very nicely in the microwave! They are very DENSE (and sweet) so you don't need to order a ton.  We ordered the bananas foster, Belgian dark chocolate, Vietnamese coffee, tiramisu, and sea salt whiskey caramel.  All were to die for, but the bananas foster and Vietnamese coffee were our favorites.  Overall, great experience and delicious/unique flavors!  If you're in the mood for a sweet breakfast/treat, Union Square is the way to go. read more

Really great Dubai donut and Cadbury creme egg cinnamon roll. So delicious as a treat.

Being from Japan, I always think that American donuts are too sweet. It's always like eating pure sugar, or even eating concentrated artificial sugar. Those refers to Krispy Kream donuts or donuts sold at grocery stores. Since I moved to Somerville, several people mentioned that Union Square donuts are great and I always see people in front of Union Square donuts when I pass by. Now I tried if it is really an exception of American donuts. The answer was no. For sure not as crazy sweet as other typical American donuts, but still too sweet for me. Chocolates on the donuts was not my favorite taste. I miss Mr.Donuts in Japan. read more

Ordered online the night before and was given a 7:15am pick up time. We arrived a little after that and my doughnuts were ready. They pour drinks when you arrive, so be aware of that if you're looking to grab and go. Staff were very nice and friendly and pick up was very easy. We tried the Boston Cream, Birthday, Jumbleberry, and Salted Caramel Whiskey. If you're looking for something not too sweet, the Salted Caramel is just perfect. The Boston Cream was super decadent and I couldn't finish the entire one. My favorite was the Jumbleberry, which was tart and sweet at the same time. I've been told they sell out, so make sure you go early. read more

Union Square Donuts is Boston's famous donut shop and it lives up to the hype. This location is north of Harvard University in a quaint strip with several other cafes, restaurants, and shops. It's small, but they do have several tables and window seats. They also have a bathroom. They sell coffee and breakfast sandwiches, but even if you order those, get a donut too. They make them fresh daily and they are big. I loved the brown butter hazelnut crunch donut. One will fill you up! read more

Ok.. I dont do the 5 star thing often right... I have been a Kane's Donut girl for years and that was my "Usual" spot for donuts when having a craving. However, we have been stopping in to Union for months when we run to Neighborhood to get Cream of Wheat... I would always get a donut & never eat it, maybe a bite here or there, but I would get Butternut or Coconut or something crunchy. THEN.... One day someone else had to go for me and without asking they just grabbed me the Sugar One... OMFG - this was life changing, it was light & airy and just SOO GOOD.. It was like a Apple Cider donut from the Farm after you've been apple picking but times 1000... Ever since then I have only picked that donut now when I go & I ACTUALLY EAT IT!!! - I have tried to go back to Kane's but nothing they sell even comes close to this donut! OMG now I want one, Ill be there tomorrow! Thanks guys! Keep up the great work! read more

My friend and I came on a weekday morning for a quick snack. It wasn't too busy. We ordered the Vietnamese coffee donut and vanilla bean donut. Both were super delicious and flavorful! The cakes for both were fluffy and light. They seemed much bigger than donuts from Dunkin. The vanilla bean donut was my favorite - I have a big sweet tooth! Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back! read more

So I know I'm super late to the party, where everyone knows these donuts are divine. Upon arrival I was overwhelmed by the many choices, so I asked them for guidance. They recommended their number one seller. I don't remember the name of the donut, by it was crunchy and cakey. It was possibly the best donut I have ever had in my life. I don't eat many donuts but these donuts are on a whole other level. I can't wait to go back. read more

It is so hard to decide on a single donut. So I got 5! Boston Cream, Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch, Sea Salt Whiskey Caramel, Vietnamese Coffee, and S'mores. These donuts really stand out from others in Boston! These donuts are not cheap, but the dough is so amazing and the flavor offerings are so good. Each donut feels really light while still being a donut & containing all the decadent flavorings. The best out of the 3 that I tried is the Boston Cream. Definitely try this place out!!! read more

A friend told me about this place about two years ago and I am so glad I finally made it. This is such an amazing spot with great staff and delicious donuts. I checked out the donuts online before, but I was still overwhelmed by the beauty of the donuts and the selection. After speaking with the staff I decided to get their honey glazed. It is their original flavor and it is oh so good. The honey really pops and gives the donut a nice little kick. And the cake just melts in your mouth. I love that they use local honey and local other products to make their donuts. I cannot wait to come back here when I need another donut fix!! read more

Unlike the haters, I like this place--a lot. Unlike those who love this place with a blind eye, I see the flaws (though they're minimal). Some letter grades: The toppings and fillings: A+. Maybe even A++. The dark chocolate in the Begian Chocolate and the Boston Cream is luxurious, voluminous, decadent, and whallop-packing. The brown butter crunch is superb. The Boston Cream filling is custard, not cheap vanilla pudding. And on and on. The underlying donut: Maybe only a B at best, sometimes dipping to C and bringing a spongey quality that's more like a sponge than spongecake. But certainly doable, and way more than doable given the toppings and fillings. Coffee: A solid A, whether hot or cold. Service: A. The donuts might be high end, but I've encountered no snootiness here. Value: They're expensive, hitting $4 for the most expensive. When you hit the jackpot with your flavor selection and freshness, the $4 is a bargain. When you don't, you feel it. Misc: Only purchase what you can eat in the shop or in the one sitting when you take them from the shop. These donuts are built to be eaten (soon) that day, not the next day. read more

Whenever I visit a new place, a donut shop is a must. Union Square Donuts came up on the top of the list so off I headed the first morning in Somerville. Easy online ordering. Everything looked good but I narrowed it down to three for my self indulgent morning. Jumbleberry, Vietnamese coffee and brown butter hazelnut. Each was an accurate taste of the description. However the brown butter hazelnut was the clear winner. Take a walk to Union Square and reward yourself with their donuts. read more

They probably have good donuts, but for sure the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER !!!! It was pouring rain and they didn't let us in to order, that's fine because of COVID. The window they serve from doesn't have an awning to protect the costumers from the rain while they are ordering, waiting, and being served. The worst part is that the employees were laughing at people waiting outside and getting all wet from the rain. So Mr/Mrs. owner, If you wanna do business and keep your employees safe from catching the virus, make sure you keep your costumers happy during the service, because that's what will keep you in business. Mr/Mrs. costumer, make sure you bring an umbrella and wear a parka. read more

Expensive, but generously sized donuts. A bit too heavy for me, I prefer my yeast donuts lighter, but if that's not your preference, Union Square Donuts is a great local shop with plenty of interesting options (Banana Split? Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch? Vietnamese Coffee?) If you do swing by, I highly recommend trekking up to Prospect Hill Park to enjoy your donut--it's just a block away, but the view is wonderful and the incline might make you feel like you earned your sweet treat :) read more

I admit that I had heard the hype for a while before trying. Disappointing.... Fresh, yes. Dry anyway, yes. Berry jam filling was good. Maple coated donut - dull. Lacking flavor. Overall, worth $4-$5 each??? No. Nothing special about these donuts in my book. (By the way, later I saw my receipt - the tasteless frosted one was supposed to be coffee flavored - not maple coated - LOL) read more

Great service and donuts! I've been there occasionally and they have specialized donuts too!

Yelp wants feedback on how Union Square Donuts could improve. They could start by selling good donuts and slashing their prices by 75%. Will they? Doubtful. Sadly they've built a donut empire of stale, overpriced donuts. Even their merch is overpriced. read more

Sunday= donuts. At least that's how things were in my house growing up. On our way out of town, we stopped by Union Square Donuts for a sweet breakfast. Pick up went seamlessly after we placed our order online and we were soon enjoying donuts and iced coffee/iced chais. These are hands down the best donuts I've had in Massachusetts. My biggest pet peeve with donuts is how overwhelmingly sweet they can be. These donuts, while sweet, don't just taste like straight sugar. They've got a beautiful yeasty quality with some inventive ingredients. Are these donuts pricy? Yes. But with good reason. You can taste the quality of the donuts and the time that went into making them. We got four donuts (listed in order of preference): Vietnamese Coffee, Boston Creme, Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch, and Belgian Chocolate. I would happily get any of these donuts again as all were delicious. The Vietnamese Coffee has such a unique flavor and I also loved how coco-y the chocolate was on the Boston Creme. Overall, donuts & coffee were delicious, takeout was easy, and the employees were kind and competent. I'm going to have to force myself not to go here every weekend! read more

As a self-proclaimed donut queen (see my Yelp profile pic for reference), I am always on the search for great donuts whenever I go to new places. I tried Union Square Donuts last year when I lived in Brookline and was unimpressed. However, all the rave reviews made me feel compelled to give it a second chance. So one winter morning I walked for almost 30 minutes to the Somerville location from Cambridge, and long story short it was worth it. I got a brown butter hazelnut crunch, a chocolate cream-filled donut, and a sea salted bourbon caramel. I really enjoy the fluffy and airy texture of the dough, and I didn't find them too greasy. I couldn't really taste the sea salt or bourbon in the sea salted bourbon caramel, but I really enjoyed the chocolate and brown butter hazelnut crunch. So much so that I made the trek again a few days later. This time I got a Vietnamese coffee and blueberry jam. I couldn't taste the coffee in the Vietnamese coffee, but I loved the blueberry jam. It seems like the flavors are hit-or-miss for me, but the hits are so good I would go back. read more

For some reason I remember the donuts being better in the past, but that may be my own memory failing me. I want to like their donuts, but they just are not good. The flavors constantly change and the new easy to market donuts just don't taste great. The old standbys really are saturated in fry oil, too. I've convinced myself to try them again and again because I live a short walk away, but what they have to offer is not worth the cash. Unfortunately even if they were cheaper I'd say to give them a pass, so the fact that they're $5 doesn't really take away anything. read more

Visited the assembly location. I heard all the hype about this place so I had to check it out. When you walk in the presentation of all the donuts you just want to buy them all they look so delicious. I chose the red velvet. I was so disappointed when I took my first bite. The donut tasted stale to me. They are not in any way sweet. It was dry and flavorless. I can't say I'll be back to try any of the other flavors since I bought 2 of the same one for me and one for my daughter and it cost almost 9.00 for the 2. There are much better options in the area that are not chain options. I'll be going there where the donuts are fresh and flavorful read more

The donuts here appear amazing (10/10 on looks), however the flavors just aren't there. A filled donut that was supposed to be vanilla tasted like cream with no actual vanilla flavor. Red velvet tasted dense like a cake but with no actual flavor to it. Coffee donut was good overall but tasted like a maple donut from Dunkin - it didn't actually taste like coffee at all (which I had been excited about the most). Only one that had flavor worth it's price tag was coconut which was flaky dough and flavorful. If this store put nearly as much effort into the taste as they do the presentation, these would be incredible. read more

This is a generic comment about Union Square's donuts...specifically the vegan ones: too greasy! Like, grossly greasy. Spent a ridiculous $30 on half a dozen donuts and won't ever do that again...at least now I know I haven't been missing out on much, except...grease. read more

Small place with great donuts does have some ceiling good coffee, good donuts, service was fast and friendly

I visited the Assembly Row location over the weekend. The place is immaculate, the donuts beautifully displayed. I typically do not review places unless I have something nice to say...the era of Yelp has made many customers rather nit-picky IMO, and having previously personally worked in service for many years, I get that anyone can have a bad day. That being said, I thought the service I relieved at the Assembly Row location to be discourteous and when I mentioned it to the sales person ringing me up, his response was rude and perhaps a bit taunting?? I'm not sure how to interpret it, honestly. He was then snickering with his colleagues about something and I asked if he was laughing at me me. He said "no" but continued to look at me strangely and laugh. I asked him if he realized that his behavior would be interpreted personally by me and he said yes, he did, and continued making faces and gestures to his coworkers. Maybe he was high on some edibles? I honestly do not know. Now, the donuts were good, lovely. But with all the amazing artisan donuts being made all over Boston these days, there's no need for me to go back to a place where I'm not feeling comfortable and where it seems my business was not appreciated. I waited several days before writing this review, by the way. I did not want to reflexively write out of anger or to get anyone fired. But if I were the store manager I would certainly not let my staff treat people the way I was treated. Maybe I'll go back in a few months and try again. read more

Coffee is good, location is cute, staff is nice. But donuts were just eh. The texture is not the type that I normally go for, it's more dense and not as chewy and light as I would normally prefer. The flavors didn't really hit the spot for me either. Sadly it's Blackbird donuts that's the winner by comparison. read more

VEGAN DONUTS. Not all of them, but the ones they have are seriously some of the best I've had from any vegan donut shop around the world. They are yeasted (as it should be) and quite generous in size. They even offer donut holes if you just want a quick bite. On any given day, they usually have 2-3 vegan donut varieties. Belgian chocolate tends to be a staple, and for good reason. The chocolate on that donut is some of the richest and most decadent I've tasted. Cinnamon sugar is also common, but a little more straightforward. In the fall, they have pumpkin spice which is also incredible. Like any good donut shop, selection tends to dwindle later in the day (especially on the weekend), so make sure you get there earlyish if you want your choice of vegan donuts. read more
