I know a lot of people go here for smoothies but I would stick to the the ones without protein. I have no idea what kind of protein they use and the almond milk is sub par. The brand they use is mostly fillers and only has about 8 or 9% of real almonds. There is a distinct ersatz quality to it. I would prefer a choice of whole milk for those of us who are not lactose intolerant, but they probably wouldn't us organic or grass fed milk. The whole point of getting a smoothie is health, right? I know using better products would increase the price point, but I would rather pay for the quality than go on the cheap with sub par ingredients that only add to one's health issues. This is a place that is on the regular rotation for me- I am surprised I haven't reviewed yet! It is a walk up window that has surprisingly good (aka long) hours that really hits the spot when I have a health food itch. It has a great selection of smoothies, power juices and bowls. While I have tried quite a few, I have landed on berrylicious being my favorite treat after a Saturday morning workout (sweet with protein in the greek yogurt base). It is 9 dollars for a small, but it feels very worth it for the quality and consistency of these smoothies. Disappointed .... Once again! I have been following this place since the gas station on Blue Hill. Great service but has gone down since. I have been to morrissey BLVD and a few times they have ran out or not had something to make a meal. Not sure if they ran out or not been able to replenish. Today I ordered 3 items from the JP place and I got a notification that they didn't have the ginger.... I approved it... but bring other 2 items. Then 30 minutes go by I see what the hold up is .... My ordered was canceled. So I called - their blenders are broken.... HOW?!?!??! It's a smoothie place. So I told her she should have sent the yogurt bowl and she says the guy walked out on her. Why are you calling?!?! Send what you have: soooo much for my day of smoothie and yogurt. The smoothies are hit or miss. I am not a fan of getting a smoothie & there chunks of fruit in it. Some of the smoothies are vegan but many aren't which is unfortunate--why not make most of them vegan? It takes a while to get your smoothie, longer than it should, which can be annoying. I think it's great to be able to support small mom & pop businesses in the neighborhood though. read more

This is a review of my experience today at the new branch of Shea Butter Smoothies in Jamaica Plain. In a nutshell, my impression is that customer service is severely lacking, and that basic aspects of the business, such as inventory and work flow, have not been well attended to. We watched them get three orders wrong, and the wait time was unacceptably long. Based on the many positive reviews of the Dorchester location, I am surprised by these circumstances. I ordered a Nipsey Lemonade for my son and a Get Well shot for myself. The cashier seemed inexperienced, though her manicure was outstanding. She did not ask me what size lemonade I wanted, she seemed awkward with the interface, and she didn't have use basic cashier vocabulary such as thank you. I did not think she was intentionally rude, just lacking in experience. I paid and we began to wait. After about ten minutes, the employee who seemed to be in charge of things called my name and we walked up to the counter. Without apology, she told us that they cannot make us a lemonade because they don't have any juice. She said the only juice they had were the three bottles in the counter-top fridge. Did we want one of those? We hesitated, thinking we could have gone anywhere else for previously pressed juice. We wanted something fresh. So we returned to browse the menu, and I asked for clarification--Which menu items are not available? She repeated that they did not have any juice, so I asked if we should then limit our browsing to the smoothie menu, and she said yes. She never smiled. My son chose a Bad and Bougie smoothie. No one asked us what size. She told her co-worker to tell any future customers that there would be at least a 20 minute wait because she had four smoothie orders to fill. A new mom who had ordered herself a smoothie while we waited seemed quietly alarmed at this announcement, and politely asked about the ETA of her order. They told her 10 minutes. So she went for a walk and came back after ten minutes. The smoothie was not ready after ten minutes, so she chose to wait outside. We were also waiting outside because the music in the PA system (Female vocals, Gospel?) was punishingly loud. The mom shared with us that she had popped in to treat herself to a smoothie to enjoy while she walked around the pond while her baby slept. Now, she was disappointed at having to spend those precious moments of the baby sleeping waiting for a smoothie on Centre Street. Before we had retreated to the sidewalk, they called out "Ginger Shot!" I asked if that was for me and they said yes. I said thanks but I ordered a Get Well shot. She asked, "So you want a Get Well shot?" I replied that yes, that was what I had ordered. In a quick moment, they served me a Get Well shot in a cup that could have held at least 8 shots. It looked so diminutive. I would have been happier if the shot had been served in a smaller vessel. Back on the sidewalk, they brought out my son's smoothie. Yay! It was tasty. And it appeared to be a large, which surprised me, because based on the pricing, I believe we had paid for a small. A few minutes later, they delivered the smoothie to the mom. It was clearly much smaller than my son's, and she asked if it was a small. Affirmative. She said that she had ordered a large (it had cost $14!), and that she wasn't sure what to do because she really wanted the smoothie that she had ordered, but the baby would be waking up soon so she was reluctant to wait. The employee said she would take the smoothie inside for her, not addressing the mom's concerns directly. To me it seemed that there were two options the employee could have offered: either offer a refund for the cost difference between large and small, or offer to make her a large right away, skipping the 20-minute + wait. We stayed and chatted with the mom for a few minutes and said goodbye and went on our way. When we left, she was still waiting for her large smoothie. read more

Went here this morning and let me start off by saying was not expecting to get a smoothie from a gas station at JP but here we are. Customer service was eh cashier did not seem like they wanted to be there... don't get me started on the smoothie i got it was the mango madness and it was not fully blended at all there was chunks of it and the taste was not all there taste like coconut water with mango chunks it in. Definitely learned my lesson getting a smoothie from a gas station. read more

I ordered a smoothie bowl one day in advanced and it got dropped off earlier than I had scheduled it for which was not an issue for me. I got the life is good bowl and it was amazing! The menu doesn't give too many details on the base/everything in the bowl but I was pleasantly surprised when I ate it. The bowl is a little small but I think it makes sense for the price. I definitely want to stop by and try their smoothies, the menu looks interesting! My only "con" was the the store didn't give the delivery person a bag or something to hold the bowl so he couldn't just leave it outside of my door. Sometimes when my life gets super busy, I might not have a huge appetite, but I know that I need something to eat or drink. In those cases, I really like ordering from Shea Butter Smoothies. I have ordered their Cinnabomb several times. I also like their Bad and Boujee, Big Papi, Sunshine Riddim Smoothie, Tropical Bliss, Life Is Good, and Immune Booster. Smoothies from other places can make me feel like I drank too much sugar, but I usually feel good after drinking the smoothies from here. I appreciate that there is emphasis on both health and flavor with all of my orders. If you have not had smoothies from here, you should definitely try them. read more
