Whenevever one of my friends asks for wedding vendor recommendations, I always tell them to go with The Icing On The Cake for their wedding cake! Why? A few reasons: 1) Tasting! About 6 months before your wedding, book a cake tasting to come in and try a variety of flavors, look through their designs, and customize your perfect wedding cake. 2) Flavors! Everything is super tasty and moist - no bland, dry wedding cake here. For our wedding cake, we chose a different flavor for each tier: chocolate raspberry, coconut, chocolate hazelnut, and golden raspberry. 3) Designs! They have a great variety to choose from - from traditional to modern. For ours, we went with a silver brushstrokes design on the top part of each tier, and our florist (Central Square Florist) designed cascading fresh flowers on the cake at the venue. 4) Value! Pricing for this high quality is super reasonable, and they can deliver to your venue. On top of that, if you bring in a photo of your cake after the big day, they will give you a FREE anniversary cake, any flavor (we picked carrot cake), designed like your wedding cake! This is an incredibly sweet gesture that we greatly appreciated. No need to save that top tier in your freezer - get a fresh cake, and enjoy celebrating your first year of marraige together! read more

Paula designed our wedding cake and it is amazing! 100% recommend this place . Their flavors are incredible

I must have reviewed icing on the cake before because I wouldn't go anywhere else for a special occasion cake and I recently attended a party and the cake wasn't nearly as good as what you get here. I have been getting cake here for 4 decades and my son ordered his wedding cake from There as well. When I called to order my husbands bday cake a few weeks ago, one of the people who work there was so accommodating and spent time with me going over the design I wanted for it. I love them so much I wish there was a way to send a special occasion cake to my loved ones who live far away. Don't believe the few people who complain. read more

I got married this past Sunday & my wedding cake was made by The Icing on the cake and to say it was delicious and a hit is an understatement. The issue I have with many bakeries are that their cakes are too sweet, especially the frosting. The sugar overpower the flavors and you can't even eat a whole slice or the cake is dry. That is NOT an issue with this bakery. It was moist and even the guests with the most sensitivity to sugar had 2 slices. The flavors were also AMAZING. Especially strawberry, orange, and raspberry. (Each tier had a different flavor filling which was the best advice from Paula and decision). In my culture the wedding cake is central to the reception, even more so than the food. The Icing on the Cake did not disappoint me or my guests. The quality of their cakes are so good, I took the wedding topper home and shared with co-workers, it is now 3 days after my wedding and the cake is still as good as it was on my wedding day. Still soft & moist even after being refrigerated. I will definitely be ordering from them for future occasions, & I strongly suggest you do too. read more

I am beyond happy... they did an amazing job on my daughter's birthday cake. It came out exactly how I wanted it. The cake was so yummy, it was a vanilla cake with coconut cream center and chocolate rosettes. My son came to me and said "mom I want my birthday cakes from this place from now on". I will definitely be buying all my future cakes from here. They were prompt with replying to calls and emails. They were very informative and super nice. read more

We have given these folks some tricky cake ideas (from our very specific kiddos) and every time they exceed expectations - our daughters dog themed birthday had amazingly realistic dogs in a dog park made out of icing, with paw prints up the side. Our son's crab cake had a fab beach scene with 3D waves. We have appreciated the artistry and every cake has been delicious! read more

We came in for cupcakes, and they had three flavors (sll you need!) Chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, and vanilla vanilla. Yum! These cupcakes were delicious! They were a hit with everyone. Their specialty is amazing cakes, maybe next time we will splurge on a gorgeous fancy cake. But seriously, when you are the best, the simple cupcakes are divine. read more

This is our favorite place in the Boston area to get cake. Both their cakes and cupcakes are out of this world. The gold and chocolate cupcakes are to die for and so is the frosting. It's a small mom and pop shop tucked in the corner of a small plaza, and they really know what they are doing. For birthdays or any big event we order one of their cakes and it has never disappointed. Everyone should be ordering their cakes from here read more

The only place I could find gluten free funfetti cupcakes for my daughter's first birthday party. They also did a small smash cake. All cske items were so delicious! The gluten free cupcakes were amazing.... I was so impressed by their communication skills, I ordered by phone not in person. I described the simplistic vibe I was going for (rustic looking cake white icing, visible lines) they nailed it without a picture! I added cute meri meri unicorn decorations to the cupcakes for a subtle, not gaudy on your face classy unicorn botanical theme (yes I just made that up). read more

We ordered a custom cake, cup cakes and cake pops for a baby shower. They were happy to accommodate any changes and the whole process was smooth over the phone. We had our cake tasting here a few weeks ago and were very hopeful when we first walked in. Based on reviews I read on here, I was expecting a reasonably priced quote and a good tasting experience. We met with the owner, who showed us into a small room right off the front room. She started going over the different options with us and then gave us a book to look through as she grabbed the different pieces we wanted to taste. Someone brought us another book to view their cupcake cakes - which we were not impressed with. There were only about 4 photos and none where what we had in mind. We found a few pictures of regular wedding cakes we liked and were very excited about the tasting. While the buttercream frosting was tasty, we were not impressed with the cakes themselves. We felt they tasted like regular supermarket sheet cake (maybe that's what all wedding cakes taste like?) and for the price she quoted us - WAY out of our budget - we thought that was absurd. Mid-way through our meeting, her assistant came in and announced that she had a customer whose cake fell apart when she cut it. The owner excused herself and went to talk to the customer - in the front room, leaving the door open so we heard the entire conversation. When she came back, she joked that she told her assistant to never say that in front of another potential client. I wanted to say "then you should have shut the door when you spoke to her." That's not the reason we didn't get our cake here, but it certainly didn't help! Maybe we are expecting too much in terms of taste, but in my mind - wedding cake should not taste like sheet cake. She also quoted us an extremely high price. read more

Photos are up! Want a crazy ass wedding cake that isn't a typical one? COME HERE! We ended up getting our cake here (see my prior review) and the day the wedding came, we were very happy. The cake design was a little different from what we'd drawn up months earlier, but still very cute. Initially I thought there were just going to be outlines of moose and dachshunds, but there ended up being frosting of a slightly different color solids of them-either way it turned out cute, just wasn't exactly what I thought it would be. We picked out cake toppers that matched perfectly from etsy.com that were so awesome, and it was the most fun wedding cake ever. The cake.....holy hell, it was delicious. We didn't save the top tier because we are going to mail them a photo and get a new top cake for our first year anniversary, and we ended up having leftover cake, which was amazing. The mocha cake was beyond delicious and moist, and it was so good. read more

Ordered a bumblebee themed birthday cake for my husband over the phone with the Golden Amaretto flavor a week ago, thinking that I could leave the creative design part to them with all those five stars reviews but I couldn't be more wrong!! Design - black dotted lines with bumble bee sugar decoration on white frosting... so plain and boring that I didn't even have the urge the take a photo of it. The cake look so simple that I swear even my 12-year old niece could've put it together! Flavor - ordered the Golden Amaretto, which supposed to be "Gold cake laced with Amaretto liqueur and layered with Amaretto buttercream" ... yet we are pretty sure we just got a "Gold Cake" aka a plain vanilla flavored sponge cake. We couldn't taste a drop of the Amaretto at all! Pick-up - when the cake was taken out of the fridge, the black wordings on the cake (plus some of the dotted lines) were already melting away!! It looked so horrible and even though the assistant offered to clean it up; she wasn't able to in the end and had to put up a white sugar plate instead. She blamed it on the coldness of the fridge (???) but we saw none others were like ours. How could "an experienced" cake marker make such novice mistake? So they never use black on white frosting before and left it in a cold fridge?? Conclusion: from start to finish I feel like they didn't pay much attention to this order at all. Evidently no love or care was put into it. Not worth the $60 as I could've gotten a fancier and tastier cake from Whole Foods!! read more

Paula made our wedding cake, which was both beautiful and delicious! We went with the carrot cake, which was moist and delightful, and had her make a three tier cake. At the last minute we asked her to make the cake have a sculpted igloo on top, and she and her staff complied and made a really cute cake sculpture to put on top of the cake. She let us pick up the cake ourselves, which meant we saved on delivery, and she promises to bake couples another cake on their anniversary if they bring her a professional photo of the cake she made. Overall, very much recommended. read more

The Icing on the Cake made my daughter's four-tiered wedding cake and it was both beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. The cake was delivered to the Sheraton Commander Hotel and placed for display and the traditional slicing of the first piece, then sliced and displayed for the guests to enjoy. And enjoy it they did. OK, so my review is rather late............When we were planning our wedding, we initially went to Konditor because they were the 'default' baker at our venue. We were underwhelmed with the dry cake/overly sweet fillings. I went to "The Icing" to look in to a specific cake for hubby for the rehearsal dinner. It was a representation of the picture on a fridge magnet he gave me at the start of "us". Anyway, they were able to do the cake so I ordered it. Paula asked who was doing our wedding cake and I told here who and why. She mentioned that our venue used her store as well, so on the spot, I booked a tasting. She was beyond nice - we chatted with her for almost an hour! We LOVED the cake.....the cake itself was moist, the fillings were tasty and not cavity-causing sweet. The design we wanted involved having words written around the cake - the words to "our song"............ the whole cake was covered in pearl dust - IT WAS GORGEOUS!!! Our guests raved about the taste, AND look of the cake. We had vanilla with amaretto and chocolate with hazelnut. I would go back there for a special ocassion cake in a minute!! read more

Really pleasant people, and delicious! We did cupcakes for my daughters birthday and asked for mermaids and fish and octopus, etc... and they did it. I have never gotten anything from here, but my friend got her wedding cake here and it exceeded everyone's expectations by far! I was looking around for places with her and saw all the great reviews so after a not so great visit to another place, they decided to go here. Obviously just by looking at pictures of cake you can never tell how good it's going to be, and honestly just by checking this place out online I would never imagine they could make such a gorgeous cake! They made the right choice! I think the flavor was lemon velvet? It was delicious. It almost looked too delicious to eat, it was all shiny and flowery and sparkly. Exactly what they were looking for. Also, she said the people there were very nice and accommodating, unlike some other very well known bakeries in the area that will remain nameless! read more

Paula and the team at The Icing on the Cake are exceptional, and they did a fantastic job with my wedding cake. It was such a treat working with Paula, who I connected with instantly from the moment I entered her bakery for my cake tasting. I brought 3 family members (MOB, MOH & dad) with me, and she welcomed us with open arms, guided us through the process so we really felt heard and that she could work with our needs, budget and wedding dreams, and her cakes, frostings and designs are top notch. We knew upon leaving, that i had found my wedding cake bakery! As a self-proclaimed foodie, and someone who knows her desserts, this was very important to me, and they nailed it. Everything thereafter - completing my order, communicating with the team for final adjustments, and delivery day with the final masterpiece - was easy and well executed. I certainly received my dream cake! Paula is professional, warm, inviting, energetic, and passionate about her craft, and she delivers rockstar quality cakes (beautiful and perfectly moist with perfect flavors). Their cakes are SO GOOD I can't wait to order more for other special occasions! read more

Ordered a 3D princess carriage cake for my daughter's birthday and loved it. We went in the store less than a week before her birthday and they were able to make the cake on time. We ordered the white cake with starwberry fillings and everything was very fresh and not overly sweet. The vake was also bigger than I expected. Only down side was that the carriage was just a ball of cake. If only the carriage also has the filling, it would be perfect. read more

3/4 - I agree with the other reviews about how awesome Paula is -- she walks you through everything. I brought a bunch of pictures from magazines that I liked and she ended up sketching out a couple cakes that tied together everything I liked. She stepped through exactly what the costs were and why they were that, completely reasonable. When we told her that we were thinking of a small cake for just the party and do a dessert buffet, she said that was a great option. She is unusual in that she'll doesn't have a minimum size cake. She told us how we could scale down and still keep the look we liked and how if we still wanted cake for the rest of the guests we could just have a sheet cake in the back. She was completely professional and helpful every step of the way. Absolutely loved her and she was by far the best person we talked to in our cake search. Update 9/12 - Our wedding was a success. The cake was beautiful and tasted amazing. There were absolutely no problems. Delivery and setup was a breeze. It was exactly what we asked for and all was perfect! read more

Our guests were blown away by how tasty the cake was. My wife and I chose Icing on the Cake after trying out 2 other cake vendors in the area. Aside from obviously enjoying the cake tasting, we appreciated the small, personal vibe we got from the bakery. As for the big day itself the cake exceeded our expectations. It was beautiful designed and accurately represented our vision for the cake. We ended up paying a bit more for the additional layers on the cake and I would say that it was worth it. When we did our cake cutting and I had my first bite of the cake I remember being pleasantly surprised - thinking WOW! This is really good!
