Stopped by Thinking Cup for coffee and a break while walking the Freedom Trail. I ordered a honey cinnamon latte. I really liked the latte art and presentation (my photo and the others here don't lie), but honestly the latte was a bit too sour for my taste. The sweetness of the syrup didn't balance it out and just made for a weird sour-sweet blend, though I enjoyed the honey cinnamon flavor. The iced lattes looked like they had more milk in them, so they may be less sour. What I really liked about the place was the atmosphere. Plenty of seating, bustling environment, and friendly service. Also, the table designs are really cool. Overall, I didn't enjoy the latte a ton, but the location and vibes were great. read more

When I was at the Old North Church, this was their recommendation for a nice place for a coffee and a pastry with a bathroom. I ordered a vanilla ginger latte and a berry financier and they were both really good. The financier was light and not too sweet and the vanilla ginger latte had a very nice flavor. People were friendly and I got my latte quickly. Ask for a code for the bathroom. They have quite a few tables. read more

Great coffee house in Boston's North End! I'm in Boston for a week and just enjoying the hell out of the town! Time to hit the road Saturday morning but one thing is bugging me, I didn't visit the North End? I got up super early Saturday morning to have an espresso with my peoples before hitting the highway. Walking in, there are two ladies manning the counter. I look at the menu and see there is a Cortado. I ask, what's your version of a Cortado? She explains the milk to coffee ratio and I give a thumbs up. I notice the menu has some incredible breakfast choices, I simply want a biscotti to chase with this coffee. The coffee has me thinking (See what I did there?) this is a serious roasting house, they're serving Stumptown and Third Wave Coffee products exclusively. And I dig that! The biscotti? Look at that picture, this thing is huge! YUGE! I'm not complaining, I can taste the fresh figs and nuts, It's an Italian thing and their biscotti is the star of the show. The coffee? Amazing! We were sitting in the back of the cafe and watched one run from the kitchen/food prep area into the baseboard of a booth, then almost immediately another ran from the back doorway up into the dividing wall where the kitchen/food prep area is. So here's the deal, I owned a coffee shop back in San Francisco and I very well know what a double espresso looks like. When I made a comment to the person working, they assured me it was a double and looked at me like I was stupid. $7 plus tip for a single is quite literally robbery. The ambience is pretty nice at this place but do not expect much from the sandwiches. The first one I got was the Barcelona Bliss and it was not toasted, bland tasting, and the green olive spread was way too overpowering & the meats were cold? The entire sandwich was cold. If you love desserts, this is the spot for you. If you love coffee, walk away. This was the worst coffee I've had in a while. I ordered a medium vanilla cold brew with oat milk and a medium mocha latte with oat milk. I received a large cold brew with no oatmilk and no vanilla. My partner's order was inputted as a small. When I asked for oatmilk for my drink, the barista poured barely any into the drink and asked me if it was enough and I honestly said no. Then she poured it into a separate cup for me. The coffee itself really tasted like watered down coffee in both the latte and the cold brew as another reviewer said. There were also coffee grinds at the bottom. The sea salt chocolate chip cookie was delicious but this was honestly the worst coffee I've had in a while. read more

This cafe is the absolute cutest! The lattes are amazing and their selection of pastries and coffees look so delicious. The line moves really quick, the baristas are really helpful. I ordered a pumpkin spice latte and it was delivered with a little heart in the middle. I got the latte to go and it was delicious for a cold morning (cold for me, I'm sure this was more like normal fall weather for locals). I reAlly loved the ambience of this cafe. The decor and smells of a coffee house and the noises of the machines running was just a so wonderful experience. I didn't get any food items, but they all looked amazing. Especially the Crepe Cake and the muffins. If ever in the area I think it would be a great place to grab a drink and sit and watch the busy street. A little slice of heaven. I work in the north end and always arrive a little early so I can walk up to the Thinking Cup. They're one of the few places close by that has gluten free options. Took a friend who was in town to get some coffee after our dinner. We saw a big menu of their pour over and that's what we decided to get. When I ordered the second pour over, I was told that they only have one pour over and that it'd take 10 mins to make one. Weird that a coffee shop would only have one. The Thinking Cup is a hipster paradise tucked neatly away on bustling Hanover Street in Boston's North End. If you don't feel like waiting in line at some of the neighboring cafes and desserteries (I just made up that word, it's totally a word now), this is an ideal spot to stop and grab a pastry, delicious sandwich, or cup of coffee when you're in the area. This has been one of my favorite cafes in the city, ever since discovering the Boston Common flagship all the way back in high school, and I always make a point to visit the spacious North End location now as well. There is plenty of seating at tables and a long bar with charging outlets, so it's a great place to get work done. The interior is reminiscent of a 1920's speakeasy, with newspaper-adorned walls and dim chandelier lighting. In other words, it's perfect for Instagram! Take your pick from a myriad of sweet and savory options, including an impressive selection of grilled cheese sandwiches featuring creative fillings like chicken doused in a house made coffee barbecue sauce (!!!), plus soups, oatmeal, yogurt parfaits, and assorted pastries and cakes. No matter what you get, be sure to wash it down with a tiny cup of their satisfying French Hot Chocolate, which is just like drinking melted chocolate, and a must-get for anyone with a sweet tooth! Cute, large coffee shop and sandwich place. Many outdoor tables with umbrellas with pretty flowers blooming everywhere (it's May). The inside is dark(er) and the menu has plenty of choices. They have a breakfast menu, a grilled cheese menu, and pastries. The breakfast sandwich was egg, bacon, and cheese on an English muffin. Personally I love Starbucks egg white turkey bacon sandwich better, but doesn't mean it was bad! However my boyfriend felt it was better than Starbucks and said it was awesome. So who knows! Excellent cup of cold brew this morning. Rich flavor, lots of "wake up" in this cup. They also have baked pastries and sandwiches to heat up in a panini and some pastries. Delightful. There are quite a few two-top tables in this small but deep coffee shop. It's fine for working but it does get quite loud with the espresso steaming. And if the two older gents are sitting at separate tables but shouting to each other to be heard over the din, that's just part of the character of this place. read more

My experience at Thinking Cup could've been better. The staff seemed aloof and/or nonchalant. As I approached the counter, the barista just gave me a glance and raised eyebrows without saying anything. I found this a bit amusing because the person after me got greeted with, "How may I help you?" After being handed the orange juice and Boston cream pie, the staff still didn't say anything after I said thank you. A bit of manners can go a long way. Boston cream pie was decent, although I didn't care for it being in the form of a tart. The cream filling of chocolate and vanilla layers tasted good. Great quick breakfast place in the north end, really enjoyed my oatmeal, quiche, and pour over. I had gone for a run and stopped in afterward and was famished so threw down a slice of quiche in like 10 seconds and then went to the oatmeal. The quiche was light and fluffy, I think with potatoes, bacon and some sort of veg in there but not quite sure, all I know is it was tasty with a nice buttery crust to match. Oatmeal was pretty standard but well done, didn't need anything fancy, just a nice consistency with a little sweetness from the brown sugar. Pour over was so smooth, just a great cup of coffee.
