    clam chowder
    Will R.

This is in the airport. I went when nobody was eating. It was just a couple people at the bar with drinks only. They don't let you sit in a booth when you are a single. I guess when it's crowded it makes sense. I ordered pretty quickly. That's where the positives end. About 10 minutes after me, someone else walks in and sits at the big table with me. She orders and gets her appetizers before me. About 25 minutes after I ordered, my clam chowder arrives. I thought I had plenty of time. Now I don't. Boarding is in 5-10 minutes and I still have to walk a ways. As you can see in the picture, the spoon looks like they found it on the side of the road. Not only is it not a soup spoon, it looks like it could be found in a prison. Soup is average. It's hot though! Tacos arrive after I push the soup away. Wow they look great as you can see from the photo. After a few bites, it tastes really dry. I think they forgot to put the sauce on there. Unfortunately, I don't have 25 minutes to wait for a replacement. I eat 2 of the 3 and ask for the check. He did bring the check fast. I guess I should have ate at the other seafood place.

Wasn't able to go to the Sam Adams Brewery while I was in town for a conference. Was super excited that there is now a little Sam Adams satellite restaurant in the airport. It offers a lot more food options than the main brewery in JP. Fewer beer options, though... I think they really only had maybe 4 Sam Adams beers on tap? Decent location to grab a quick beer before a flight. Came around lunch time but it wasn't too busy. Surprisingly took a bit of time for my food to come out even though I ordered basic chicken tenders lol. The atmosphere was pretty cool though. Gives a chill bar scene and makes you forget that you're stuck at Logan Airport lol.

The Bloody Mary was good. Not the best I've ever had, but not bad... The fish tacos were surprisingly bland considering all the ingredients listed for them. Service was horribly slow, but I understand that's an issue wherever you go nowadays. Just at an airport, it just doesn't work that well. The prices were high, but I guess that's standard at an airport. Just seems WRONG, seein' as it's the same food / drink you'd get elsewhere. Would probably try another restaurant if I were in this particular concourse of the Boston airport.

Visited this establishment waiting on our flight back home. Also got hooked on the Oktoberfest while in Boston. Darn this beer for only being seasonal, what ever will we drink the rest of the year. This was our first visit to Boston, so I had to do all the cliche stuff. Had the clam chowder here. It was good. The drinks were pricy.

Definitely worth every penny, and probably more. My girlfriend and I aren't really beer drinkers, but what the heck, when in Rome. The tour was nice, it was mostly in one big room and the tour guide talking. But hey, we had beer in our hands the whole time. They explain the history and that this brewery is now really used for research and development which is neat because you can taste what they're working in. Then they bring you to a tasting room and explain how you should taste a beer as a professional would. Overall, top notch, worth the price and definitely something to do while in Boston! Highly recommend.

Great place to grab a beer and snack. Freshest Sam Adams on tap aside from the brewery. The pricing for drinks and beverages was a little steep for what you get. However I get the appeal. Great gift shop with fair prices.

Every beer geek starts somewhere in the craft beer world. I will always have a soft spot for the beers that I started on in my craft beer path. These include: Sam Adams Boston lager, cherry wheat, DFH 60 minute IPA and brown ale and guinesss. These are my gateway beers into the craft brew world. In 2009 I went to Boston and visited the Sam Adams brewery, the first of now over a hundred that I've been to. After a short walk from the train stop we arrived and went on the tour. Now I can recite to you what will be said in most brewery tours, they all follow the same recipe. Come look at the giant tanks that we boil the malt and hops in, it's now called mash. By the way, beer is 4 ingredients- water, malt, yeast, hops. Did you know about the German beer law? Here's a malt taste it, here's a hop smell it. Look at all of our barrels of beer storing and here's some history of our company, in this case Jim Cook. Now this being the first tour I've ever done, I was actually very entertained and learned quite a bit. Fast forward to the tasting room. The trick here is to go with at least a few people who don't drink beer. Seeing as I went with a bunch of Asian people who get the Asian glow (allergic reaction to alcohol), that way I got at least 2 glasses of each beer. I can't remember how many beers I had for some reason... but I recall part of the line up was Boston lager, Boston ale, Octoberfest, cherry wheat, cream stout, and maybe their light. All of their beers are solid and easily accessible to all beer drinkers. The rest of my time at the brewery is fuzzy so let's end my story here. If you are interested in beer but don't know where to start, this is a great first step into craft beer. The gateway of craft beer! I highly recommend this to all aspiring alcoholics. Atmosphere: 4/5 Food/drink: 4/5 Cost: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Overall: 4/5

Wonderful tour - we went on a Friday afternoon, which is perhaps why it wasn't super crowded and we had VERY generous tastings! I don't think I would go out of my way to visit the tasting room, but the free tour is completely worth it and extremely informational, especially given the instructive tastings. My friend and I had the best time here - such a great activity to do in Boston!

The Sam Adams Brewery tour was a blast. It isn't too long either - perfect amount of time. It was pretty awesome learning more about how the beer is made without it being boring. It's also really nice to know the "free" ticket money goes to local charities! Our tour guide, Willy, was awesome! He was also from Cincinnati (my home turf) so he spent a lot of time chatting with us after noticing a UC hat. Very friendly and great at giving tours! The tasting portion of the tour was fun and they give you a cute little sampling glass to take home and keep. Nice little gift shop too. They also recommended Doyle's cafe for food/drink. We went there after the tour and if you show you that you were at the tour, you get a free Sam Adams pint glass. Loved the experience!

Met 4 colleagues at The Red Fox for dinner, a recommendation from a friend of my colleague. Tough to find initially and very unsuspecting upon arrival. As you enter the front door (think like walking into a foyer of a small apartment building) you go down a flight of stairs into the restaurant. Then wow, this place is awesome! Small entry way into the restaurant with a hostess immediately greeting you. The bar is your first view of the place and it was packed. I'd describe it as dimly light, great atmosphere and ambience, almost a speakeasy feel. I'd recommend a reservation. The hostess walked us to our table, walking along the bar line with small 2-4 top tables to our left, we then turned left into the main dining room. 5 of us and we were seated at a horseshoe style table, plenty of room for up to 6 adults. Service was instant, she was friendly and very knowledgeable. We ordered cocktails and a couple apps. The drinks arrived along with bread service. They added small side plates with oils and olives, a nice touch. The cocktails were fantastic as was the homemade bread. A unique twist with my cocktail (kettle one & soda), was the single ice cube that was a long rectangle cube that was so clear you couldn't see it! The cubes length was the same as the tall glass it was served in and didn't melt. For dinner I listened to our server who recommended the Chicken Parmigiana with a chefs twist using a vodka infused sauce, this dish was amazing! My colleagues all shared the same feelings that this meal was spectacular. Highly recommend The Red Fox!

The first time the orrechiete was very al dente, so just asked to cook a little more during my second visit and it was perfect. Spaghetti al limone was a nice complement to the other two!

I didn't mind that much since it was actually pretty tight and cozy so it actually brought up the energy I think. We already had reservations, so we received a fairly quickly, and the white stuff were very professional and courteous. The food did not disappoint. The calamari came out fresh and hot. Crispy and the banana peppers gave it just the right heat. The marinara sauce paired well with it. The Lobster Fra Diavolo was done in a cute heart shaped, so that was delightful. Lobster was done perfectly and the slightly spicy sauce of the pasta paired beautifully. My favorite was actually the marsala. The Fusilli was done perfectly al dente and soaked in that delicious sauce that was flavorful and clung so well to the pasta. The chicken breast was well marinated and super tender and juicy. Honestly, I wouldn't hesitate to order this again next time.

Cafe Amaro....No Bene!…read more North End is one of my favorite Boston neighborhoods for Italian food especially Pizza. But this time, not so much! We walked in here on a Sunday afternoon and stopped at Cafe Amaro since they had open tables. The restaurant is very small probably about 10 or so tables. We sat right up against the kitchen which was warm since it was a bit chilly outside. After about 5-8 minutes went by our server came over and we asked to sample 2 glasses of wine. They were not good at all. After tasting one more we finally landed on the Chianti. We then waited longer to place our order which was the Prosciutto and Fig pizza. I also ordered a soda water with lemon which never came. Note: there are 2 servers and I believe 1 speaks English but I am not 100% sure. Once our server finally came over my husband had to remind him of the soda water which he proceeded to say "we only have large bottles." Ok, thanks for letting me know since the other server/busser did not. Does he work here? Does he know the menu? Why wouldn't he tell me this the first place? Our pizza finally came and even after ordering it well done it was still floppy and flimsy to the point when everytime we went to pick up the slice everything fell off...UGH! I don't know how in the North End this place gets by or survives? Maybe they were having an off day? I do see other reviews that had better experiences than ours. Maybe they were short on staff? If that was the case then say something because I probably would've had more patience and understanding if this was the case. BTW, Our server NEVER came over after ordering our wines and pizza. He never asked "how is everything?" NEVER... I also rarely give one/two stars to restaurants but this was despicable and I really hope this is not their norm. All I have to say is there are so many other better restaurants in the North End to go to, but Cafe Amaro is not one of them.

One of the main selling points of this restaurant is the glass wall overlooking the Zakim Bridge and the sunset. That was the entire reason we chose it. We arrived and were immediately seated in a dark corner with no windows and absolutely no view. Meanwhile, the main dining room was maybe 30% full at best. Plenty of open tables. And we're tucked into a shadowy corner like we asked for the overflow section. I walked up to the host stand and waited about five minutes before anyone even acknowledged me. When they finally did, I politely asked if we could move to the main dining room since we reserved specifically for the view. They said no problem. Three minutes later, they moved us. To the only tiny high-top table in the entire main dining room that had no view. The table was sandwiched between the entrance and the dining area, directly in front of one of the only solid walls in the restaurant. Everywhere else had glass and scenery. We had drywall. For context, I wore a suit. My partner wore a gorgeous silk dress with heels. We were clearly dressed for a real Valentine's dinner and more formal than most of the guests in the room. This was a rare night out for us. We're parents to a 6-year-old and a 1-year-old. We secured childcare. We made the effort. My partner insisted we just make the best of it since we don't get out much. So I decided to move forward and focus on the food and drinks. We ordered the Cherry Noir. It tasted like a cup of tart cherry juice and bitters with a splash of tequila hiding somewhere in the background. It took us the entire meal to finish it. That was our first and only drink of the night. We ordered the lobster ravioli with "fried plantain" for $50. The plantains looked and tasted like plantain chips from a local convenience store. The ravioli had almost no flavor, and the lobster somehow had even less. I had to use the salt and pepper from the table just to wake it up. We also ordered the 16 oz ribeye for $80. On top of that, we paid $20 for a side of roasted Brussels sprouts. The ribeye was the best part of the meal, but the bar was already in hell. It was a regular, nothing-special cut of steak covered in another underwhelming sauce. Again, salt and pepper came to the rescue. To finish, we ordered their Neapolitan flan for $30. It was the most basic-looking and basic-tasting dessert I've had at a restaurant period. No creativity. No presentation. An insult for dessert. All in, we paid just over $250. For that price point on Valentine's Day, you expect an experience. You expect attention to detail. You expect food that doesn't need table salt to carry it. You definitely expect the view you reserved days in advance when the restaurant isn't even close to full capacity. This was easily the worst Valentine's date my partner and I have had in our entire relationship. The only saving grace was the fact that I'm blessed with someone who appreciates our own vibe enough to shrug off poor service and forgettable food. But as for Alcove, never again!

The French toast was absolutely outstanding!! Easily one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, rich, and flavorful, it's a must-order and alone makes this place worth visiting. The huevos rancheros were decent, but not quite at the same level. They felt a bit less authentic than expected, and the hot sauce option was limited to Tabasco. The French toast is phenomenal, and with a little more attention to authenticity on certain savory dishes, this spot could easily be a 5-star brunch destination. I'd definitely come back!
