Five stars for the food, three stars for everything else. We tried Calisto's for lunch during our trip to Boston. I didn't realize this would be a true hole in the wall; no bathrooms, only three or four tables, you order at the counter. So if you're looking for a sit-down spot, have a backup plan. We got lucky and grabbed a table but it felt like a miracle. This is really more of a takeout spot. The menu is simple: cold and hot sandwiches, about four or five options per category. The sandwiches were delicious, especially the Calabria, packed with prosciutto, spicy soppressata, hot capicola, sharp provolone, Calabrian chili aioli, and arugula. They couldn't substitute the arugula, so I skipped it but it was still the star of the show. My husband had the roast beef and it was good, but the Calabria won. Fair warning: these sandwiches are HUGE. We were so full from lunch we could barely finish dinner and my one regret was not splitting one. Come hungry or come with a plan! The place is a bit chaotic. It took close to 30 minutes to get our order; they were slammed. The guy at the counter was all over the place and forgot to give us our drinks or tell us to grab them from the fridge. But at $17 for a sandwich this thick and this good, it's a great deal in Boston's South End. The flavors made it all worth it.

I had such high expectations of this deli after hearing so much about it on social media. I stopped by a bit before their weekday lunch rush and waited about 15 minutes for one of their hoagies. I tried The South End, which was a super unique combination of ingredients and flavors and sounded like an elevated turkey sandwich. And this sandwich was MASSIVE. Like..... almost impossible for 1 hungry person to finish massive. And, unfortunately, because it's so massive, it felt almost completely impossible to eat. At no point was I able to get a bite containing all the toppings. I had one bite that was all turkey, one bite that was all slaw, or one bite that was all mayo, etc etc. I'm not sure if I just got a bad batch of something, but the bacon on my sandwich was also pretty chewy and inedible which was disappointing. The sandwich also got soggy very quickly, so definitely keep that in mind if you plan on ordering takeout. I love the thought behind these sandwiches and the energy the staff brings but the execution was just not what I was hoping for.

One of the best sandwiches in South End. For the price and amount you get, it's well worth it. I ordered the south end without Bacon and every flavor was complimented so well. There's some seating inside, but it's seemed like almost orders were take out. It would be nice if they have online ordering but they seemed busy so I can see why they don't. Service was great, as all the guys working there were so nice.

Really enjoyed my first time at Calisto's. I got the South End sandwich and it was seriously delicious. The music they had playing was upbeat and gave the place a really fire vibe, and watching the guy make the sandwich was an added bonus. You can tell there's a lot of care that goes into it. Definitely leaving here already thinking about what I'm going to try next time, Keep up the good work!

So yummy. Serving size was huge and packed with stuff - could have split instead of having one to myself! Totally worth the money. Be prepared for there to be a wait depending on the time. Seating inside is very limited

Going to be honest, wasn't impressed with my sandwich at all. I got the south end and was really disappointed with quality, presentation, and the proportions. There was barely any bacon and the quality of the bacon was not great, you could tell it was old and there was one strip in the whole thing. I really could my taste or see any whipped brie. The picture online is pretty misleading. The apple chunks were massive and felt like that was majority of the sandwich. Also there was no line at all when I went so not like they were being rushed.

This is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It was huge, don't let the price deter you. It is rare to be able to say this in today's world, but you are getting your moneys worth and more. Great vibe, great food, friendly people. I will be back.

The south end! Delish! Huge sandwich!

Amazing sandwich! $19 with tip, but such a large portion! Worth it! Tastes super fresh!

    How is that for everything!

Roman Gold is probably my favorite sandwich ever and the service is great. This was my farewell meal before moving out of the South End

The smell of bacon was too good to keep moving past it and we decided to head inside. Best happy accident!! Any place that has staff wearing shirts that say "Stoked for yolks" and has an array of pig decor- jackpot! My husband got a turkey and I did a ruby melt; SO GOOD! I perused the menu, and the breakfast options all looked incredible! If you find yourself on this end of Tremont and you smell amazing bacon, follow your nose to Mike and Patty's - you will not be disappointed! Also, staff was super friendly! There's a small park with shaded benches about 2 blocks away (Elliot Norton Park) which is a great place to sit down and devour the food. I ordered the Mission Breakfast Burrito and it was delicious. As of August 2026, the website lists the burrito as $14, but the price on the in-person menu was $16. I would give the burrito 4 out of 5 stars because of the way it was wrapped - about a third of the burrito was just egg and cheese and the toppings (avocado, red onion, hash browns, salsa verde, crema) were crammed on the other side of the burrito. If there was a way for the burrito to be wrapped so all the ingredients were more evenly distributed - this would easily be a 5/5 breakfast burrito. One random detail that stuck out to me was that their drinks in their refrigerator were very cold - no lukewarm sodas here! I would come back here to try their signature "Fancy" sandwich. Overall, this is a very solid breakfast spot in Boston!

First of all, the pastry case just beautifully displays all the baked goods. It's quite a sight to see! I love the variety and flavors, very unique.
