But I'm actually writing about the company's website and phone recording. Once, on a prior holiday, and today due to a winter storm, I wasn't sure if the restaurant was open. In both cases (where the restaurant turned out to be closed), the website (appropriately) didn't allow online orders, and (more importantly) THE OUTGOING PHONE RECORDING WAS UPDATED WITH CURRENT INFORMATION. In an era where businesses barely have phone numbers to call, or employees who answer with something other than 'hello', is rare (and by the way, this is the fault of management if they don't properly train their staff). Good quality pastrami but the price is ridiculous. $30 for a standard size pastrami is too much. It is in downtown Boston but still. Also parking is horrendous. We ended up having to drop me off at o go in and order and we took our sandwich to go since we couldn't find anywhere to park nearby. We got the pastrami reuben. About 5 minutes later our sandwich came out. I like that they served it in a cardboard box so it doesn't get squished. The sandwich had a good amount of meat and sauerkraut. Sam LaGrassa's is a Boston legend that's lost its way. As a local, I used to defend Sam LaGrassa's to anyone who called it a tourist gimmick. It was the gold standard for a real sandwich in the city. Sadly, the magic has faded. Between the soaring prices and the shrinking portions, the value just isn't there anymore. You can taste the "corner-cutting"--the flavors aren't as bold as they used to be, and the sandwiches feel noticeably smaller even though the cost has increased exponentially - I mean $30 for a sammy?! It should have gold in it! Even then, I'd keep coming once in awhile if the service was worth it. but honestly - the staff seems burnt out even bright early in the morning. Looking for lunch while walking the Freedom Trail so we walk over and the place is pretty busy so things look good. Reviewing the menu and wow...this place is pricey. $25+ each for a North Shore Roast Beef and a Chicken Cutlet. The only thing I regret about coming here is stopping by on my last day in town. Had I known how good the sandwiches were, then I would have ate here a few more times. I came upon opening on a weekday and quite a few people followed. It must get busy here on weekends because this weekday opening was busy. They had a huge catering delivery the staff was feverishly working to load up as well. The staff moved pretty quickly and got us our order fast. Everything was really good. Ok..10 out of 10 sandwich! I got the white tuna on Scala bread. Perfectly sized sandwich. And the way they package it makes it like a gift. Perfect to take to a park or a hidden spot to enjoy. So the service and the food was exemplary I had the spicy chicken cutlet sandwich, which was phenomenal. I've definitely never had a better sandwich in my life, but it was the price of what I can get a steak dinner at certain places which is a little ridiculous we went at work and everyone there got something different for the most part, and everybody loved their sandwiches. Sandwiches here are delicious! Knocking off one star because they're expensive ($25 or more per pastrami sandwich). I came Friday for a late lunch with a friend around 1pm and there were some open seats. We split two sandwiches, the Chipotle Pastrami and Pastrami Caprese (toasted). The Chipotle Pastrami was a little sweet and served with chipotle mayo and it was hot, salty, and delicious. The pastrami tasted really good with just a little fat and not too salty. The caprese seemed unique and it was an interesting combination. The fresh ingredients were a nice contrast to the chipotle pastrami and it was served on an Asiago roll which was so good. I would probably re-order the chipotle between the two though. They cut the sandwiches in half so it was easy to split. And they were each served with a mildly pickled pickle. It took a while to receive our sandwiches even though it wasn't super crowded. We checked on them a couple times and were told the hot sandwiches take longer. Because of the price it would definitely not be a go to spot for me. But if I was craving pastrami, the flavors here are really great. read more

Online ordering ahead is easy, they do catering for businesses all week as well as counter service. The only downside is the price. Around 15 years ago the cheapest pastrami sandwich was maybe $12 and that seemed expensive. Then it was $15 and that was the first sandwich that expensive downtown but people would still go. Today the price range is $20-$30 per sandwich, which makes this really a luxury lunch and not as much of a daily lunch spot. But if they can sell at volume at those prices, more power to them! read more

The service was great and the cashier I had was very kind and welcoming as I took the time to decide what to order. The sandwich itself was very very good I would say! It was packed with many slices of deli meat and cheese, and I'm not quite sure what sauces were inside, but there was a sauce that had an excellent subtly sweet and spicy flavor that paired excellently with the rest of the components of the sandwich. I will however say that price is pretty outrageous. I frankly cannot justify spending $24 on a sandwich--even a very good one--more than once. Something to be considered. read more
