After one bite, I decided that the next time I was in Boston, I am actually coming here for a meal! The Buffalo Chicken sub was one of the best things I've eaten. It is a thick, fried chicken cutlet ... homemade, not bagged/frozen. There is spicy buffalo-style sauce and creamy blue cheese dressing and freshly sliced tomato. The bread is perfect and the sandwich flavours just blend so perfectly together. The turkey Asiago sandwich smells like dirty socks but it tastes great with melted asagio cheese on the bun and a sweet sauce. Roast beef with blue cheese was amazing with fresh rare roast beef and chunky blue cheese dressing. The buffalo mozzarella and tomato sandwich (although it didn't seem like real buffalo mozzarella cheese) was a good option as well. When I return, I hope to try the hot pastrami sandwich. The cookies were gigantic and full (almost too full) of hardened chocolate chips. Overall, this was the perfect corporate catering for a business meeting but I'd imagine it would be even better freshly made. Boston has many lunch restaurants ... few of them good. The place was more spacious than Regina's Pizzeria in the North End as there was room for our stroller. The boys each ordered the Ham and Swiss and my wife and I ordered the Roast Beef Peppers and the Chipotle Pastrami. Both the roast beef and pastrami sandwiches were excellent. I ate half of the pastrami at the restaurant and saved the other half for a moment of snacking zen at the top of the cylinder at the NE aquarium. It tasted as good two hours later as it did in the restaurant. Three different groups of people asked me if I got that sandwich at the Aquarium cafe. The service was fast and friendly. I would have given them 5 stars were it not for the price, I've never paid $100+ dollars for four sandwiches before, at that price they might come with a beverage and a salad. read more

It is not large and was packed with regulars on a Thursday lunchtime and we ordered a sandwich at the counter and found one chair open, but had to wait for another 10 min for the adjacent chair to open up. Not a lot of seating available. Bathrooms not particularly convenient - through a door and up 1 or 2 flights (M-1, F-2) on a tight spiral staircase. The sandwiches are expensive. $28 for a Pastrami Rueben on pumpernickel. Now for the good news. It was the best Rueben or pastrami sandwich we've ever had! It was big enough, we split it, and a big of chips was only $1.50. In spite of the sandwich cost, there is a reason this place has been around since the 60's, and is packed with regulars. Haven't been in quite a while and got the craving for pastrami. Walked in at 1:15pm on a Wednesday and, lo and behold, no line whatsoever. (That's a first!) It is so odd to come to a restaurant with such limited hours, but dang, worth it. I'm not much of a beef eater but their pastrami is so good. I ordered the chipotle pastrami sandwich to share and I was worried it wouldn't be enough. This was the perfect sharing size. The sandwich was so good, the meat was so tender and full of flavor, the sauce was light enough to enjoy the meat and bread, the coleslaw added a nice balance, and the bread was perfect. The seeds on the roll and the crunch of the bread held up so well to the meat and slaw. The staff was super friendly and we were able to utilize the restroom with our 2 year old so overall this place was a huge win. I chose the Chipotle Pastrami With a Diet Coke Bottle and tax and a small tip, It came to $32.37 for lunch. A bit pricey for a small lunch but par for the course. These sandwiches add coleslaw which seem to be more common than not. It made the sandwich very messy but on a good note, the slaw was very tasty and full of flavor. It came with a dill pickle in a bag. The pickle tasted like the Grillo's ones we get from Costco back home. Not bad. The pastrami was sliced and warm and you get a good amount. I Iike that they offer the spicier taste of Chipotle on the pastrami. Nice touch. Tasty but very messy. My top pastrami sandwiches are found at Langer's Deli in L.A. and Katz's Deli in NYC so this one didn't rate up there but again, not bad. Lots of deliveries were going out while I ate at a counter area. This place was not crazy busy even though it was a Monday ~12:30 pm and should've been lunchtime for the area. This was not pandemic slowness as almost all the Covid restrictions have been lifted when I was there. I would not call LaGrassa's the world's best as they say (I reserve that for other places) but it's definitely worth a stop when in the area. I've never been a pastrami fan, as I didn't have it much growing up. But coming to Boston, so many (including my trusted friend) were raving about Sam Lagrassa's pastrami, that's also featured in so many media outlets, such as The Food Network's Diner's, Drive In's and Dives, The Travel Channel, ABC's Nightline, in The Boston Globe and been named the best sandwich in Boston by Eater, Thrillist, Best of Boston and Boston Magazine. So I finally tried Sam Lagrassa's and it really lived up to world's best sandwich title in my opinion! Most importantly, I didn't know that pastrami was soo good! I ordered the diablo and asked them to swap the regular bun for pumpernickel bread and grill it so the sauce would caramelize nicely. First I thought the heaps of pastrami would be too much but after taking a big bite, I couldn't help but eat all of it! The sweet barbecue caramelized with the smoky, salty, tender pastrami was so amazing and I still think about the beautiful first bite with different flavors harmoniously coming together. Lagrassa's son is now running the business and provides wonderful service. My only complaint was the short window of hours open (11am-2pm).. they ship their sandwiches and meats nationwide and I'm pretty sure they sell more sandwiches online than in-person :) will most definitely be back/order online. read more

Finally made my way to Sam LaGrassa's after 5 years of living in Boston... being only open on the weekdays makes it difficult for a working professional to visit this establishment, but I had a day off today (Friday)! I got here just a few minutes after opening but already saw quite a few customers. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. I opted for the chipotle pastrami and ate outside. At $18 a sandwich, this is probably the most expensive sandwich I've ever paid for. Employees are nice and service is quick - they bring your order to where you are sitting, and the sandwich is wrapped nicely in foil to prevent any spillage should you take any leftovers to go and a pickle is provided in a little zip loc bag. Although the sandwich was tasty, I'm not sure if it's worth the hefty $18. Some of the previous pictures I've seen on Yelp had more pastrami, although I also saw pictures with less meat. My sandwich was actually a bit too over sauced, and I'm the sauce queen. I think the chipotle honey mustard just overpowered it all. Despite it not being the meatiest, I was full after half the sandwich, likely because of how heavy everything was: bread, meat, sauce, coleslaw, and cheese. Even on a weekday there were plenty of customers as I people watched from the outdoor patio. There were many delivery and takeout orders, likely from nearby companies since I saw bags and platters. I also saw many construction workers on break, as well as locals and tourists from out of state. Was it worth it? In my honest opinion, not really, but there are a lot of Yelpers and patrons who likely think otherwise. If you're looking a hearty sandwich and are okay with treating yourself, this is the place for you.
