The road to advocacy needs fuel. Y'know, breakfast and lunch for the most part.  So. Met up with my counterparts and fueled up before tackling legislators at the Statehouse across the street. The gents behind the counter are personable, capable, and very much customer service oriented.  They even gave me table service, which was appreciated since i had recently suffered a small fracture. I ordered a hamburger and fries, which were very tasty.and portions are generous.  I want to return to try the rest of the menu.  Especially on Friday for the fish and chips. Once I finished up at the Statehouse, I returned to grab a Greek salad to go, generous portions also. In conclusion, another gem for when I'm in the area to frequent. read more

Directly opposite the State House, this sandwich shop cranks them out at lunch time. I stopped in post-lunch rush and jumped on a pastrami sandwich. A very good portion of pastrami, some provolone cheese and a few tomatoes (yeah, I picked all of that) with a huge portion of fries. A good amount of space with a half dozen two-top tables and another half dozen seats at the counter. Cooler of bottled and can sodas and juices and teas. Service was good. read more

Folks taking the orders and cooking make sure that you have a good lunch or breakfast. The daily specials are terrific.

3.5 stars if I could, don't want to go too low since the people working here are super nice and the sandwiches are sizeable. But neither person working had a mask on. Which didn't occur to me until my sandwich was in the process of being made. That's a big no no these days. read more

Folks where do I start. I absolutely love this place went here everyday in my college years. This farther-son team has to be the nicest people around. You walk in the door your treated like family. The food is amazing whether it's breakfast, the infamous homemade chicken salad or the deluxe burger you're in for a treat. Fresh quality, family run. Take a dive in there for take out or a quick meal and you'll be back for years to come. It's been 5 years since I've been back and it's like I never left from the jolly welcome back! I go here because I'm early for work, it's super cheap and the guy behind the counter is super nice. If there was no salt and pepper to be found on the table or bar area, I'm not sure I could eat here. The prices here are reasonable which is rare in the neighborhood. The food is good and the staff has a snarky, quick witted humor. I enjoy coming in the morning for a quick breakfast and good laugh. During lunch the line can get crazy so use the ritual app or call the order in ahead of time! See you there! read more

Very nice people, freshly-made food, and great prices but I'm a little confused about what they define as "chicken salad"... I ordered a chicken salad sandwich (another Yelp reviewer mentioned their "infamous homemade chicken salad," which piqued my interest) but it was not chicken salad at all - just shaved chicken with the lettuce & tomato that come on any sandwich. Perhaps this is what is known as chicken salad in some places, but I was surprised that it was just dry shaved chicken without being mixed with celery, mayo, or anything else. It was fresh, but a little dry for my taste (not even any mayo on the bread). Maybe this was just a fluke and the person making the sandwich thought I only ordered a "chicken sandwich" so I'll probably still give them another chance for all the reasons I noted at the beginning, but I won't order this without asking more questions next time. read more

Looking for a quick bit to eat for breakfast in Boston before the sam adams brewery tour; I whiped out my iPhone went straight to the Yelp program typed in "Cheap Breakfast" using "Current Location"... SEARCH.... Fill-A-Buster popped up #1. Read a few reviews, sounded interesting, off I went. This place is located like across the street from the state house building in a very old money area of Beacon Hill. Next door to the New Jerusalem Church which basically fortified my new fond love of Fill-A-Busters. It's a nice area to walk around during the week to people watch. Lots of state govt political type. I was feeling a little adventurous that morning so I decided to go with a new menu item called the Pita Omelette Sandwich. I ordered the omelette western style with a cup of coffee for $5. Talk about a thick Boston accent.... I couldn't understand a word the cook said to me after I placed my order so I simply smiled and said "sure". My Pita Omelette arrived at my table and it was HUGE. The size of my face huge and it probably contained 4 eggs, peppers, onion, ham, and cheese. Pretty simple but perfect. I sat there devoured it, burned the inside of my mouth a few times, watched CNBC Squawk Box on the 4x4 inch lcd television; then off to freedom trail. Wicked good times! read more

When I walked in it smelled amazing. I think it was the BBQ platter or something. And it was PACKED so I'm definitely willing to consider going back and trying something different. But this was the most overcooked, mediocre felaffel ever. Couldn't even taste it really. Though the tomatoes were fresh. Service was excellent. They work hard, and they're super courteous. And the guys behind the counter said hello to me just to say hello while they were working and I was standing waiting for my food. They happily replaced my fries with salad. The place seems like serious Boston-kitsch, if you know what I mean. The name alone...and it feels like a place to be when you're in it. But I have to rate it based on the food I actually ate and I wasn't thrilled. read more

$6 for a falafel and fries? Hell yes! My falafel was crispy, spicy, crumbly, a little greasy- PERFECT! Fries were hot and great too. Portions are huge, particularly for the price. The guys working here were really nice and seemed to know a lot of their customers by name. I wish this place didn't have such limited hours/days of operation- they close at 3 in the afternoon and open only on week days. First off Thank you to the Filla crew for staying open during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the spot for good food served fast and cheap especially for Beacon Hill. I'm surprised Fill-A-Buster has so few reviews here, as it's such a mainstay in that part of Beacon Hill. Fill-A-Buster is located across from the State House on Bowdoin St., and it's pretty steadily populated by the numerous denizens of the Boston political scene -- from legislators to janitors. They're only open M - F, so it's clear that this place caters to the workaday stiff. I get breakfast here, and it's pretty solid. Nothing fancy (like real cheese), but it has a pretty decent, greasy-spoon-like quality about it. Good breakfast sandwiches, too. They make fresh muffins every morning, and these things go pretty fast! They're not shaped like traditional muffins, but more like cornbread, or something similar -- I must confess an unfamiliarity with such baked goods, myself, but I resolve to try one of these someday, served steaming hot and moist from the oven. Will update this review then. EDIT: So, I'm now munching on a fresh hot muffin from Fill-A-Buster, and they're pretty rockin'. They apparently all are corn muffins with stuff added in for good measure (like cranberries) or whatever). They are immense. They are $1. 'Nuff said. EDIT: Spinach pie is HUGE and comes with either a side salad or fries. Chock full of leafy spinach and cheese. Def. worth eating as well, though at $6, it's a high-ticket item here at the F-Busy. -K read more

I've started a quest to create a map of the best breakfast sandwiches along my work routes (Jamaica Plain to downtown Boston, and various other places I end up), and this place is the first stop on my journey. Being a reporter in the real world, I always keep my ears open in the handful of establishments next to the statehouse. The fill-a-buster regularly comes through with at least one half-interesting critic to eavesdrop on. I can imagine it's where many of the old-school insiders must go, and it's definitely marked out as Boston Herald territory. I love the ambience of the place, kinda like a beach town hamburger joint with one little TV in the corner tuned to the news. FAB serves the traditional style sandwich, and they do a damn good job of it. I've had the bacon egg and cheese on wheat toast, and the bacon tasted really good. One fried egg, american cheese and plenty of yummy crispy bacon. You can also order it on a bagel. At most places the bacon is served in a tired, burnt or too greasy state, so the FAB earns a place on the map by virtue of pig alone. One note: it's a little pricey at $2.90. The average fella could probably down two of these easy, which puts the total at over $5. That's a no-no for us working stiffs. Perhaps it would be cheap to amp it up with an extra egg? read more

I've been a faithful Fill-A-Buster customer for as long as I've worked on Beacon Hill (over 5 years). I love that the guys know me by name and usually know what I'm going to order, it's always the Chicken Cutlet special if I go in on Thursdays! The food is great, they give you lots of food at a great price. It's greasy and sits heavy in the stomach but some days that's just what you need. Lots of people talk up the burgers and fries, which I love, but they also make a great spinach pie. I also recommend the Athenian Chicken, pastrami, and although I've never tried it, the Mac n Cheese looks awesome. They keep the food fresh and they make most of it right there. It gets pretty busy in the middle of the day so if you can, take an early lunch! But even if it is busy, the guys keep things moving and get your order to you as quickly as possible. read more

For the location, this is probably one of the best priced breakfast/ lunch places around. During peak lunch time, the line was out the door. But don't get discouraged, because these guys work quick. The food is good. I got a cheeseburger plate and it came to around $5.50ish, nothing to write home about, but it was good. The portions are also great for the prices. If you work in downtown Boston or go to Suffolk especially, you have to come here at least once. you may even find a politician there. read more

For what it is this place is amazing. The prices, the size, the quality, the staff. All amazing. My favorites day like everyone else in boston, so go early, is Thursday for fried chicken cutlets. The best in Boston. If you ask for it made like a chicken parm it's one of the best chicken Parms in Boston. I also like breakfast for lunch, a bacon omelette. The spinach pie is so good and so big! I usually can have two meals out of it. The burgers are pretty legendary, I get a deluxe with an egg on it. The muffins are pretty tasty too, not classic muffins at all in texture of anything really but tasty pastry in the morning with coffee. Every meal is like 6-8$. The guys behind the counter are super nice, even if they rush you along. Just a great place. read more

The word "excellent" is insufficient to describe some restaurants. Among them is Fill-A-Buster, a remarkable establishment of Greek extraction masquerading as a downtown deli less than a block from the Mass state capitol building. After reviewing the thoughts of members here on Yelp, I made the trek downtown from Kendall Square to investigate what everyone seemed to be raving about. Needless to say, the yelp members here got it absolutely right. If you like Greek food, I dare you to find better for the price and the speed of Fill-A-Buster. I thought I was visiting a traditional American deli (perhaps I didn't read the reviews here closely enough) but in fact Fill-A-Buster is about as authentic a Greek deli as I have found since my wife introduced me to real gyros about 5 years ago. The food is fantastic and the aromas and fresh ingredients and delicious seasonings wafting from the open cooking area to the seating area makes you want to stay there all day just to breathe. I had a gyro with a "side" of french fries. I use quotation marks because there must about been at least 1/2 pound of french fries on my plate. The gyro was big, too. Eventually, I had to concede defeat lest my distended stomach burst. Satisfaction of your hunger here is guaranteed. I also found the staff and clientele in Fill-A-Buster to be unexpectedly pleasant and outgoing. Perhaps I happened upon them on the right day, but I got the impression that this deli was friendly and open to all. I wound up spending an extra 30 minutes there talking to the people seated next to me after my sandwich was done. How often can you say that about your first visit to a deli? As others have said: excellent food, great people, fast service, and low prices. It could hardly be any better than that. read more

I was excited when I saw a chicken kebob plate on the menu. I figured I'd get the same delicious goodness offered up by Karo's and Boston Kebab House without having to walk as far but the resulting meal was pretty disappointing. I received a pile of greasy chicken pieces lightly coated in some kind of red sauce atop a mound of dingy, overcooked white rice with a salad on the side. I threw most of it away and it seriously ruined the rest of my day. Spurred by the reviews here, I returned a couple weeks later and ordered the falafel sandwich with fries. Fill-A-Buster redeemed themselves with that one. The sandwich was a crunchy, craggly mountain of falafel with lettuce, tomatoes and white sauce inside a pita. It was incredibly hefty, impossible to pick up and eat so I had to deconstruct and rearrange a few things but the work was totally worth it. The McDonald's-style fries were nothing special: some were crispy, some were soggy read more

What's a Beacon Hill gal like me to do with the onset of a Falafel or Greek food craving? Just hike up the hill! Fil-a-buster is a small simple cafe, and like the simple decor, the food isn't too glamorous either, but who wants dressed up falafel? I just want the crispy but delightful dish done right-- and this cafe gets it! This place is perfect for take out or lunch especially during the workweek. Their menu is expansive, ranging from breakfast to burgers to Greek delights like hummus, gyros, tabouli, etc. You can get all your favorites in plates or as sandwiches or salads. If you work in the area, I'd definitely make an effort to stop in if you're bored of the usual lunch fare, and if you're someone like me who just enjoys finding Greek food anywhere that I may be, this is a great place to stop in and take out (or devour there!) read more

This place is a great and affordable lunch spot right near the State House. The portions are always massive. You won't be hungry after you finish your meal from here. The food is no-frills, which is refreshing in Boston, seeing that a lot of the food establishments around the area seem to be into the more modern trends. The burger is greasy, the chicken tenders are deep fried to perfection, the salads use chopped iceberg lettuce, and the fries are plentiful. read more

Best cheap burger and fries in the finest hole in the wall establishment you'll find on Beacon Hill. The staff is friendly and when they get to know you, they're hilarious. Most of us in the office were regulars here on Fridays, and each week we'd walk in and hear "HOW MANY CHEESEBURGERS!?!". They serve everyone from the Governor to the street sweepers and everyone in between. Fill-A-Buster is a local treasure. I can't wait to go back. read more

I really hate to do this because I have loved Fill-A-Busters for YEARS and have been going here once a week for the past 4-5 years since it is right up the street from my job. However, over the past month or two they have really gone down hill. One of the usual guys is missing and I guess he either ran things well and kept people on track, or they are just down people and the quality has started to suffer a great deal. The staff is still friendly and great, but they desperately need another person in the kitchen. My food over my past four visits has either been overcooked, or just plain tasted bad, or certain things were missing in my order, or like just now they added a ton of crap onto my sandwich that I never even asked for. It stinks but I'm finding it harder and harder to go here as I am batting 0 for 4 in my last visits. I'm thinking I may try it a couple more times and then eventually retire this place for good as my favorite place to eat around my work. I'm a bit sad about this, but nothing can stay gold forever. A few months ago I would have given this place a 10 if someone asked me, now I would give it a 6-7. read more

I really want to love Fill-A-Buster, but it continues to be just okay for me. That being said, it's good for grabbing a quick lunch to-go. Any sandwich you order will be overflowing, probably too large to fit in your mouth. It's cheap, it's a lot for the money, and it satisfies your hunger while tasting just above mediocre. I can't complain. I can't exactly praise it either. A bigger positive, however, is the staff. They work amazingly well when the entire place is filled with people waiting in line to both order and receive their food. And they haven't managed to mix up my difficult orders yet. I'd probably like this place better if I liked falafel. Overall, regardless of its mediocrity, I'll continue stopping in for chicken salad every couple weeks when I'm in a pinch. read more

We stopped here for breakfast before a tour of the State House, and it was the perfect authentic Boston experience for a tourist! The guys behind the counter were super friendly, and they seemed to know everyone (besides us) who walked in the door by name. Several patrons were yucking it up with the staff in heavy Boston accents. The whole staff would also yell "Bye, ___! Happy New Year!" as patrons left. Oh yeah, and good, cheap food. Doesn't get better than that. read more

As I was ordering my sandwich, a man in a nice suit who obviously comes there all the time as he knew the guy behind the counter by name, pushed directly in front of me, ordered for him and his buddies who had grabbed a table, paid, and stood there waiting for his food. Not only did the guy behind the counter completely ignore me and put his order ahead of mine, but then went on to the next guy in line behind me before finally get back to my transaction. Oh, and the chicken salad sandwich that I finally ate is very bland and thrown sloppily together. Not recommended. read more
