Cute diner in South Boston that hammers home the diner theme while embracing its Boston origins. The portions here are E-NORMOUS. Everything on my plate was taking over the edges. The pancakes, the home fries, the cooked ham, toast, and eggs, it was all hanging off the edges of the plates. Best of all, it is served with a genuine smile, and yes, everything on those plates tastes great. I also got the grits but they really are dry and bland. Vinny Gambini would not be impressed with these. I liked the 80's music playing in the background. It is better than today's pop music, but also enjoyed they avoided playing 50's and 60's doowop. Their slogan does not lie ("huge portions, great food"). The "sides" can easily be a meal in and of themselves, so much food we could not finish it all between four of us. The French toast was solid but very dense and almost a bit dry, but the corned beef hash, grilled cheese, eggs and muffin were perfect. Mikes is classic and reliable! I went there for the first time recently with some friends who frequent the spot. It's a small space but a really great classic diner vibe that felt like the perfect place to be on a Sunday morning. The food was pretty good, I'd say the home fries were the star of the meal, along with the toast, side of bacon breakfast burrito and the French toast! The eggs Benedict was just a tad too overcooked, so I'd steer away from that, but certainly I'd go back for the breakfast burrito. Our waiter was super great, funny, and helpful. I visited Mike's on a Friday afternoon. They're only open until 2, so get in there, champ! My partner and I were seated almost immediately. The space is cozy and charmingly anachronistic in terms of decor - the floors should never be updated. They're classic. I had the two pancake two egg meal. Went twice, first time was great- the food was good, my only issue was the coffee was not free and actually more expensive than Dunkin across the street for pot-brewed black coffee. The second time I went was terrible, I ordered 1 waffle and 2 eggs over easy for $12.50 - the waffle came uncooked and tasted like batter very gross. My girlfriend's pancakes had the same issue. When the bill came, my girlfriend and I were both overcharged almost $2 per item (we paid cash so it wasn't the credit price) we ordered and the waitress told us it's a problem with their computer and shrugged it off! read more

A phenomenal diner in the heart of south end! Amazing food and portions with great values! My friend and I shared the premier omelette and chicken and waffles and both were exceptional! The chicken and waffles is filling (don't let the photo deceive you)! A great balance of sweetness from the waffle and saltiness from the chicken. Chicken were juicy and crunchy while the waffle were fluffy and soft. The omelette was filled with whole corned beef! I love that the corned beef adds a light touch of saltiness to the eggs. The potatoes were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Grits were also amazing! The taste is similar as eating grits from the south. The service was fast on a Saturday morning before 9am. I came here after seeing it featured on Dine in, drive in, and dives. This place advertises HUGe portions and 99% of their food is made in house. We ordered a cup of clam chowder 5$, side of corned beef hash 9$ , and their Thanksgiving plate 21$ (turkey, stuffing, green beans, mashed potato and gravy). Everything was delicious!! I've reviewed the food before, but since switching to mainly getting the corned beef I've hit some major issues. Namely that they use styrofoam to carry-out and will put the corned beef that sits on the hot grill getting crisp DIRECTLY onto the styrofoam with ALWAYS melts it and ALWAYS makes it taste like melted plastic (I.e: completely ruins it). They can't be bothered to line it with foil for things that have been sat in the grill. I've asked for that, and they never do. In fact, they don't read any requests for carry out. Want dry toast / toast without butter? No such luck. Prefer your eggs well done? Guess again. The fact that it always melts the container makes it frustrating that they can't figure it out. I end up having to throw out the entire bottom half of the corned beef every time. read more

There were no free refills and when we paid the server the price was different on the receipt and the device we used to pay. When asked they mentioned that it was a "tax" despite the tax being already shown on the receipt. After asking again a different server told us that there was an upcharge for me using a card. Honestly I haven't found a better place that I can go to cure my hangover. The coffee, the food, the vibes are immaculate for the morning after. I alwaysss get the corned beef hash (5/5) it's to die for. The home fries are also good, I usually get the grits and load em with butter and black pepper. This time i paired my hash with eggs benny which were pretty good. Only downside is they're getting more expensive especially with the 3% service charge added if you pay with card. Street parking here is surprisingly not too difficult to find which is great. This place has a lot of history and it was great being able to experience that along with a very authentic diner feel. Stopped by on a Saturday around 12:30pm and there was a small wait but we were seated pretty quickly. Portions here are HUGE so make sure to come hungry! Items we ordered (as of 8/2022). - Dynamic Duo - $12.90 - Comes with 2 eggs, 2 pancakes and choice of either bacon or sausage. The pancakes are almost comically huge (think the size of a dinner plate). While the size is quite generous the pancakes themselves weren't anything special. Definitely need that syrup! Eggs and bacon were fine but nothing mind blowing. Great value for the price. - Kimchi fried chicken sandwich (Special) - $9.95 - Not bad although the kimchi flavor was lost on us. Chicken could have been more tender but was pretty good otherwise. Came with a ton of fries. Price was a fantastic deal for what you got! -Triple decker club (Ham) - $14.95 - This was the best item we ordered. Ham was very tender and had great flavor. Also came with tons of fries. Local diner featured on Triple D. It's a bit out of the way from touristy spots, so you know that it really is a local gem. Came here around noon and the line was long, but somehow we only waited for about 15 minutes. The staff will put your name down on a list along with your party size. Indoor dining only. Credit cards are now accepted. There's one single occupant restroom by the kitchen. It's a kid-friendly spot. Portions are huge, so you may considering sharing. The food was delicious. The clam chowder was probably the best I've ever eaten in Boston, as there was some sort of thyme/rosemary hint in the soup that added some extra nuance. We got the corned beef hash with our eggs over easy, home fries, and rye toast (pre-buttered). We also got the fried chicken dinner which came with your choice of two sides - we got green beans and fries. The fries were golden and the chicken was super crispy. Star of the meal was the hot chocolate. It's been a long time since I had one I enjoyed this much. The eggs and bacon were fantastic. The service here was great. If you speak Spanish, this place is a plus because 90% of the servers speak Spanish. However, the food was mediocre. First time here. Heard it mentioned on WEEI a couple weeks back. Went today for breakfast. Was not disappointed at all. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was hot, plentiful and delicious. I placed a breakfast order on Uber eats. The French toast wasn't made with bread slices it is some sort of weird battered almost pancake substance fused together. The pancakes, waffle and French toast didn't seem finished. Dry, no butter, no powdered sugar. The pancakes crumbled while I was eating they were so dry. And very thick and cakey, more like IHOP than a classic diner pancake. The waffle was way overpriced for a single 8" waffle The pancakes and "French toast" were not eaten by my family.
