Ridiculously expensive? Yup. Super hyped and publicized? Yup. Freaking delicious? Absolutely. I've tried nearly all of their sandwiches, and all are good, but the grilled sandwiches are the real standout for me, including the Chipotle Pastrami, Pastrami Rachel or Reuben, or Cuban. While the prices - and expectations - are high, this is one sandwich shop that can meet those lofty expectations...and do it consistently! For a number of years, I traveled regularly to/from Boston... so I've developed some favorite foodie spots in the city, and Sam LaGrassa's is one of them. Open since 1968, Sam LaGrassa's is a must-visit when in Beantown (they've been at the same location for 50+ years!). The sandwiches are sizable and delicious (made with meat that's prepared in-house on a daily basis), so rest assured you're not going to be left hungry... the deli pickles on the side are, of course, a delightful little addition. (Mmm... pickles...) Also, I've always noted the exceptional service here (efficient at dealing with the line at lunchtime, and always pleasant). These folks have a tried and true system and it shows. It's been a while since my last trip to Boston, so I was having a craving for one of their delicious sandwiches. Staff was extremely friendly which counts a lot for me. I got the chipotle pastrami...the sandwich overall had a good flavor, the bread was nice and toasted but the pastrami almost had zero flavor to it. It was also extremely pricey. I knew this coming in but was really excited to try it. It came with "pickles" which really just tasted like cucumber that were maybe dipped in a pickle jar real quick. This is my favorite sandwich place. But the food is very expensive, so I can't go there often. Prices have almost doubled since I used the go there, before. Nearly $30plus for sandwich, fries, and fruit punch. The reuben is my go-to sammie, and it's a fairly decent size. If you eat it all in one sitting, you might get sleepy! LOL I strongly recommend everything but the fruit punch. Not worth the money. I like my fruit punch sweeter, Oh, almost forgot- DO NOT DRIVE HERE unless you're already driving for something else. Had to see for myself what the hype is about. The place is only open for 3 hours a day and doesn't seem like much when you walk in. OK, the combo pastrami and corned beef sandwich was BOMB. The meats were so tender and juicy, piled high and bursting with flavor. It rivals some of the best spots in LA and NYC, there is no denying that. However, I agree with the other Yelpers that the price is steep! After adding a lemonoade and tip, my bill was $30. I didn't even get a side dish or chips! If I did, my bill would be closer to $40. For that price, I could enjoy a sit down meal at a nice restaurant. And while the sandwich is a good size, it's not so enormous that you could share it and be full. I finished the entire thing easily in one sitting. Sam's has been one of those places I've had from work a few times, but never on my own until last week. Their food is consistent, sure to please anyone, and delicious (even Guy Fieri says so!). I split a mozzarella sandwich with my mom and the portion size was perfect for us to share. I was pretty bummed that their pickles are so cucumber-y and not very vinegary, but I came for the sandwich (which was YUM). Their bread is always fresh and flavorful, and service is quick. Plan accordingly if you want to sit outside, because tables go quick. All in all, Sam's never disappoints (except for their pickles!). read more

We heard about how good this place is so we came in for lunch. You come in and order your sandwich down a busy line and grab a table anywhere you can. This place will be very busy/loud at lunch time, we were there around 1:00. It creates a pretty good atmosphere for an iconic type place. I got a corned beef and brisket with cheddar cheese on rye (pressed like a panini) and my girlfriend got the portobello mushroom sandwich also pressed. My sandwich was very good, but not much different than sandwiches I've had elsewhere. It didn't wow me that much but was still solid. I actually think mine would have been better if it weren't as a panini, but that's my own fault because I requested that. My girlfriend really liked her vegetarian sandwich as well.
