Billy's is amazing! The service is so fast. My sandwich was delicious. The veggies were crispy and fresh and roll was so soft and fluffy.

I was debating Indian food or try this place since ive never seen a bad review come out of here. Ordered the Italian sub. My 3 favorite things about it was: - flavor: good amount of oil, vinegar, and hot peppers and banana peppers made this taste great! - sub bread: nice and soft, yet still could hold all the toppings - the cut on the veggies: they definitely know how important this is. Shredded lettuce, chunks of tomatoes, shredded onions. Ambiance: there werent many people today, but I can imagine this place getting full hard to find a seat. Theres 8 4 seaters in total, and 2 2 seaters. Old, but kept fairly clean. Service: that sub came out quick and served right at the table. Highly recommend! read more

Wow, this place was just as good as we were hoping after reading some reviews. We were looking for something light for lunch on our trip to Boston and stumbled across this little gem. It was perfect and if I lived anywhere near this place I would be there constantly. If we'd had stayed longer, we would have went back to try more. So simple yet flavorful, just delicious. And the subs are huge! The 2 of us easily shared one sub and one "small" Spicy fry. We saw all that bread and thought it would sit heavy but it was so light and airy and fresh. The fries are not spicy at all but rather seasoned in my opinion. But that was okay because they are cooked and seasoned perfectly. I couldn't stop eating them even though I was already full. We stopped by Billy's Subshop on a trip to Boston last summer as it was near the hotel we stayed at. We passed by it a few times and we were curious as it appeared to be a popular place because it was good, cheap eats. And it certainly fit that bill. While there was a small line on the Saturday morning we went, our orders were processed fairly quickly. I was really disappointed in my experience at Billy's - with all the craze surrounding this place, I was really looking forward to trying and enjoying it. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the name. I walked in here for lunch time with a friend around 11:30AM. I ordered their famous chicken Caesar wrap, and my friend got the fried fish sandwich. I will say, the prices were very good and the service was great. The food, however, wasn't very good. The chicken in my wrap was very chewy and fatty, I had to take a lot of pieces out. My friend's fish sandwich didn't seem super fresh - the cod had brown spots. About 30 minutes after we finished eating here - both of our stomachs didn't feel that great. The food just didn't sit well. Maybe it was an off day, I'm not sure, but I am definitely going to wait a bit until I give it another shot. read more

Billy's is such a hidden gem and I wish I knew about it so much sooner! I've ordered takeout from them a couple times now and the service is incredible, food is delicious, and it's reasonably priced. This restaurant feels very old-timey and homey, a real local's spot. What has me hooked is their chicken caesar wrap, which I order with crispy buffalo chicken, which really brings it up a notch. The wrap is incredible and surprisingly filling, with the perfect amount of each ingredient. The fries were nothing special (wish they added some seasoning) but portions were great. Billy's Sub Shop holds a special place in my heart. My friends and I visited Boston in 2022 and loved this joint. When I recently visited in Oct 2024 I had to go back. This place is a true Boston gem. The food is a diner vibe - bagels, sandwiches, etc., but I think the service and people of Billy's is what makes it so special. You can tell that locals love this place with construction workers and working class people cycling through. It's also one of the only place I've visited that treats its customers as if they're not located in a major US hub - when we ordered out food they told us to pay after we were done eating operating on an honour type system. Wow! The subs are huge and reasonably priced. Short walk from my office and it's obvious this place is popular. Around 12pm on a Friday, they were rocking. Got a custom chicken cutlet sub and it was loaded. Made to perfection and the nice lady who wrapped and handed me my lunch mentioned, "I hope you're hungry." Now I know I wasn't lol! This is one of a kind and probably the last of it's kind in the Southend. Great Subs. Fast Service for Breakfast and Lunch. It is Family owned and operated with the food apparently home made. It is simply decorated just as it should be. We often enjoy their homemade Egg Lemon Soup. Subs are great also. I don't know how anyone could give less than five stars. I love this South End neighborhood spot. I've had a number of items on their menu and have never been disappointed. They do a great, reasonably priced diner style breakfast. The sandwiches and subs that I have tried have all been very good (pastrami, steak and cheese, chicken parm, chicken salad). The pastrami isn't quite a classic New England style red pastrami. It's a little bit sweeter and less salty, but prepared in a similar manner (thin-sliced then heated and chopped a bit on the griddle). It's also much more tender than those standard red pastramis. I've had their pastrami both with the grilled onions and without and, for their style of pastrami, I think it benefits from the onions even though I am not typically a fan of onions with pastrami. The folks who work there are great too. Very efficient and friendly, even while managing a large line. The prices are very reasonable for Boston in 2024 ($8-$12 for sandwiches/subs/rollups). I'm thankful this place is around. read more

This neighborhood restaurant is my go to breakfast spot. The staff are very kind and welcoming. The breakfast is always served up quickly and with love. It's located near a hotel so there are always different languages being spoken by customers. It's fun watching people from other countries enjoying American Breakfast. Fried fish dinner is Very consistent and amazingly fresh tasting and FILLING!You can go as simple as a ham and cheese sandwich ,breakfast fare or the perenial sub shop faves WITHOUT ripoff prices. Billy's is my new go to sub place. I've gotten the steak and cheese here (one of their more popular options) as well as the pastrami and both are good. The subs here are a good deal - they're a decent size and my boyfriend and I will often just split one to eat. I've also gotten the home fries here cause who doesn't love a good potato? The home fries here are more soft and aren't all that crispy as a heads up but if you have a hankering for some spuds these will still do the trick. Lastly the staff here are all super friendly and nice. There's always at least a few customers at the store during the hours that I've went here but your food comes out pretty quick. I usually only have to wait 5-10 mins for my food to come out. read more
