Absolutely delicious! I ordered the Pastrami Rachel and my dad ordered the Southwestern Pastrami. Both amazing, but we agreed that his was better and more flavorful. The price is right for the quality of the meat, but I will say other famous places I've been for pastrami sandwiches will load up the sandwich w/even more meat for the same price. The picture for my pastrami Rachel online looks way bigger than what I actually got. Regardless of the size, I was extremely satisfied and will be back again. Meet the Pastrami Diablo. Packed with LEAN pastrami. There was absolutely zero fat :O Preface, I have a negative spice tolerance, and as would have it that I found this spicy. I'm sure anyone else would only comment how full of flavor the sandwich was and not notice any spice. I appreciate the pickle as this will help my tongue cope with the heat. BEST PASTRAMI SANDWICH I HAVE EVER HAD. When they say Sam Lagrassa has the best sandwiches, it is no exaggeration. To be honest, I have only had their pastrami sandwiches so I cant speak about others but you should be coming here for the pastrami. It is only open weekday lunches but its usually jam packed in here and for good reason! The sandwiches are expensive at 15 dollars but it is totally worth it. The pastrami is just so tender. Covid Experience: they are open 11 to 2pm Monday through Fridays. They offer limited indoor and outdoor dining. You can order in the store, online, or over the phone. They did a really nice job keeping distance between customers in line and the workers clean the space really well. I ordered by the phone because I kept running into an issue with their online ordering website. The person taking the order was so nice despite the number of modifications I made. I wish I could have given them tip but it was not an option when I paid in the store. I have tried the travelers, chipotle, and the diablo (original and with personal modifications). Even though they are all good (you cant go wrong with this pastrami!) My favorite has to be the diablo. Diablo is saucy and spicy, making it a total flavor bomb. The hot cherry peppers and the onion really cut down on the heaviness. The original sandwich doesnt come grilled but I actually think it tastes better when you ask for it to be grilled. I noticed that the bbq sauce kinda caramelizes, adding another flavor profile. I cannot recommend this enough!! The travelers is for people who may be a little hesitant to try something new. It is a classic sandwich with a little twist. This was my first sandwich I tried and I thought it was amazing until I tried the Diablo. For our first sandwich we had the Pastrami Diablo, a new-ish sandwich to the menu. I personally was underwhelmed by the sandwich. Instead of the bbq sauce and apple wood bacon balancing the salt of the pastrami, the sandwich actually still just tasted salty - perhaps the bacon actually added to it; I also felt it lacked the heat that the name and ingredients led me to think it would deliver. To balance the pastrami-based sandwich, the second sandwich was the Triple Club. I actually really enjoyed this one to my own surprise and I also must add, after eating the disappointing Pastrami Diablo, I was still quite full (believe it - Sam LaGrassa's serves up HUGE sangys, no joke) so I took the half a Triple Club on to the TRAIN. Let me tell you, this sandwich still held up halfway into my trip from Jersey to Boston. I can only imagine what it tastes like fresh if I enjoyed it this much after the fact. I don't usually go back to places - you don't get to 8300 reviews by going to the same places all the time. But you can be sure that I will be back to Sam LaGrassa's. I had the corned beef and pastrami combo and it was amazing. Sometimes, you bite into a pastrami sandwich and it's all stringy bits that come pouring out with that bite. Not today. Sometimes, you bit into a rye bread sandwich and the bread is gooey or hard. Not today. Sometimes, you bite into a sandwich with cole slaw on it and it's too wet or too tangy. Not today. This sandwich was perfection. The corned beef was tender. The pastrami was firm. The bread was soft. The cole slaw held together to the last bite. Top three sandwiches I've ever had. The place is absolutely bustling at lunch, and for good reason. The Pastrami Diablo had the perfect balance of sweetness (from the bread) and heat from the cherry peppers and monterey jack. The meat to bread ratio was just right, and although the price was steep for a sandwich - $15 - I felt that it was worth it. If I worked around here I know that my wallet would eventually start hurting. It would be worth it to go back and try all their specialty sandwiches. My buddy had the turkey sandwich and had nothing but good things to say. In fact, he wouldn't stop going on about how juicy the turkey was compared to other sandwich joints. Thanks to Guy Fieri and his trip to flavortown at Sam LaGrassa's a few years back, I discovered the chipotle pastrami and my life has been more flavorful ever since. This sandwich is everything. A heaping portion of house-made pastrami, chipotle honey mustard, coleslaw and swiss cheese nestled between a grilled Italian roll. The cheese is perfectly gooey and melted from the hot pastrami, the honey mustard is the perfect hint of spice to balance the sweet coleslaw and the pastrami....that pastrami is just out of this world. As Guy would say - shut the front door. This is #LunchGoalz if I've ever seen them. Come hungry, as the sandwiches are quite large. They come with house made pickles, too which are divine. If you're feeling extra you can also get the fries. Totally unnecessary as you will be quite full, but also never a bad idea because they are so so tasty! These are huge steak fries and fried to golden brown perfection. A lunch at Sam LaGrassa's will cost you around $15 but it is well worth it. The sandwich is definitely shareable (especially if you want to avoid a food coma at the office) BUT trust me, you will not want to share once you take your first bite. When living in Boston, every visitor who came during the week was taken to Sam LaGrassa's. Out of the 20+ people we hosted in 3 years, not one complaint on this pastrami. I have never been a huge fan of pastrami - just too salty and too much meat packed into a sandwich. But Sam is different. My go to is the Pastrami Diablo. I have been here a handful of times and I have gotten the Diablo EVERY TIME. I have had a bite of the other variations and in my opinion the Diablo is still my favorite. There is just something about how the spicy jalepenos mixed in with that bbq sauce and the pastrami that just makes is SO DELICIOUS DOWN TO THE LAST BITE. For $16 (including tax) it is a little pricey for a sandwich but it has earned its value for me. The meat to sauce to bread ratio is just perfect and its so filling. They are only open for lunch and the line can get pretty long, so I usually try to get there just before the noon lunch rush. The windows here make the place look much larger than it is and lets in plenty of natural light. Our tour guide suggested the traveller but I was torn between the pastrami/corned beef combo so I thought it would be the best of both worlds. For ~$15 a sandwich you have enough to share between two people. The pastrami and corned beef were flavored well and were delicious between the two pieces of rye. The bread held up well but I'd be curious to try it on a thicker cut of bread. We also opted for a side of their clam chowder and it was the last bit of food we needed to fill us up for the rest of the day. The chowder was thick just the way I like it and had plenty of thick cuts of clam and pieces of bacon. YUM!
