They will always miss one thing, wether it's the sweetener in your coffee or the one ingredient on a custom bagel. Today after years of this I decided to call about it, and they hung up on me. Really disappointed in the quality of service lately. This Pavement location has been my go-to for the past year or so after moving neighborhoods and I've never had an issue. They messed up my last two mobile orders within the past two weeks. Both times I asked for No Cheese for my bagel sandwich but they included anyways. Not a big deal the first time and they remade it right away, but the most recent time I asked for them to remake it, there was some sort of miscommunication. I waited about five minutes while watching the workers in the back through the window chatting it up and laughing. I loved the texture and "puffiness" of it. My only complaint is that I ordered it toasted and it was only heated, but not toasted. That being said, it was a very tasty bagel. Daughter is a fan of their mocha coffee something because it's smoother than others. We stopped in for breakfast so I had a bacon breakfast bagel, daughter a scone. Breakfast bagel was great. The bacon was tick and tasty, the egg big. I hate it when others give you a tiny piece of egg in a big bagel. Overpriced. Often wrong. But still better than Starbucks. This is the best coffee spot in the area. Quirky. Tasty. Usually playing cool music. It's less fancy than Tatte. Much hipper than Starbucks. But it's just not worth the price. Prices have gone up AGAIN. $1.50 for slice of cheese? $2.00 for an egg? $1.95 for an espresso shot? (A shot of expresso actually costs about 20 cents) Because they are the best in my neighborhood, I keep going back. But they get my order wrong almost half the time. Egg when I didn't ask for it. A missing baked good. Sometimes a pound of bacon, sometimes a tiny bit. It's Breakfast roulette. Cold brew ($4M, $5L) is a more on the fruity, grassy side, which I'll take over burnt and bitter too-roasted trash. That said, the bean could stand a little more time in the heat. Housemade bagels ($1.75 each, +$2 for cream cheese) smell tremendous, are smaller in profile and more dense than what one might be used to. Seating is thoughtfully situated for a small space, and the wifi is stable - likely because it's not a perch space. read more

This is my favorite coffee spot in Boston! I opt for a large iced coffee most days and I honestly haven't tasted smoother coffee in the Boston area. The blends of beans they sell are delicious and they have many nondairy options to use as creamer with their coffee. A personal favorite of mine when I am feeling fancy is the iced vanilla latte. Bagels and sandwiches are out of this world! I definitely recommend skipping brunch on a Saturday or Sunday if you need a faster breakfast option and grabbing one of their many breakfast sandwiches. While they tend to be busy they always get you in and out as quickly as possible. I would skip driving to Pavement as it is on a one way street with limited meter parking. This place is an absolute joke. I would not recommend you go here, at all. Rather just go to the dunkin across the road. They made us wait 25 mins for two "hot lattes", which when they eventually arrived were bone chillingly cold. At this stage, it was not even worth to ask for a refund or a new coffee because they move at a snails place. This will, without a doubt in my mind, be the last time I go to this location. Some of the best bagels in the area! I'm a big fan of bagel sandwiches and I love that you can get not only breakfast sandwiches but more lunch-focused sandwiches as well. The prices do sting a bit, especially when you start building your own items/adding things a la carte, but it's one of the best options in the area and the food is genuinely great. As far as their coffee goes, I've never had a bad drink here. I'm a black coffee drinker so have high standards for coffee, and theirs tastes fresh and not too bitter. The london fog is also particularly good and not too sweet. The people who work here are awesome and have always been super friendly and pleasant. I will echo other reviewers that the service can be slow at times, so if you're trying to pop in to snag a quick breakfast before your train it can get iffy. Online ordering is a good option, or just go on a leisurely morning when you don't need to be anywhere and can enjoy the light, airy space! read more

Great spot for coffee or a breakfast sandwich. I even like their bagels which I can't say for most Boston bagel places. The rosemary salt bagel is especially good! I've also heard many good things about their breakfast sandwiches, particularly the Fix, but sadly it's always sold out when I go. Maybe one day I'll get to taste the elusive The Fix. I've also enjoyed the various coffee drinks I've had here, and they have lots of interesting options like the Maple Death Cream. It's a bit rich for me, but very tasty nonetheless. One thing to be aware of is that they tend to be pretty slow here. I recently ended up waiting about 20 minutes just for a bagel to be sliced in half which was a little frustrating, but it's clearly a popular spot and isn't a big space so I understand why it's a bit slow. Like most Pavement locations, the wait time on any food you order ranges from acceptable to ridiculous; it can be a hit or miss. If you don't have 15 minutes to wait for a bagel (or even sometimes a latte), then I wouldn't recommend this place. I've been to this location 30+ times (not because it's the best but because it's conveniently located). The staff all fit the hipster image Pavement, and they are all quite apathetic in nature, borderline rude. There are two really friendly baristas that I always secretly hope will be there. Overall: has a Tumblresque aesthetic, apathetic staff, slightly overpriced (although they do use Counterculture Coffee, so I'm willing to pay), and inconsistent read more

I've bought a sunrise multiple times before from here & I must say, the last 2 or 3 times I wasn't so happy.. I always ask for my bacon to be made well done/crispy because I want minimum amount of fat, but of course the bacon is wack!! With Mad fat everywhere. Not a crunch at all!! From my understanding that's technically undercooked and you should always cook the food to the customers liking. So they dropped the ball on this 1.. next time just burn them for me!! A review for their delivery service: This is the second time they've messed up mine and my wife's order. Each time I've ordered two of their killer tofu sandwiches and each time I've been charged for both, but they only sent one. Pretty tiresome at this point. Currently awaiting a refund after reporting on Postmates once again. Hopefully we can get a refund for the missing sandwich since both sandwiches ended up being about $20. read more

Pavement is always a good stop for a hangover bagel, I highly recommend the rosemary salt bagel or the tequila sunrise sandwich. Not a big fan of the coffee here especially for the price, I'd much rather go to Starbucks or Dunkin'. The main problem with pavement isn't that it's bad, it's that it's insulting. It's the bait and switch the car salesman tries to do on you. It's being led on by that surly partner of yours, just so they can find something better in one of your best friends next week. Bagel rising was the darling on Allston. All weekend they would have a line of the colorful Allston residents out the door, buying 1,000 calorie "Tequilla sunrise" or "Chia" bagel-sandwiches to soak up the booze cruise they went on the night before. Pale skinned, occasionally pajama clad club-goers from the night before would come in droves. They would come like they had earned it. It was practically an unsaid thing, that when they would wake up in the morning, hungover, unshowered, disgusting, they would drag themselves to bagel rising, and tell the war stories of the night before. This is all gone now. The independent own daughter of Allston, our very own bagel sandwich store is now seems like some kind of corporate-feeling starbucks clone. I don't think this is the offensive part though, the offensive part is that this monstrosity is the same company. It's not that Bagel Rising went down in some sort of blaze of glory, greedy landlord raised the rent, lived many years past it's usefulness, or was closed by the heath department. There's no easy narrative to say "oh man that's why it closed! what a bummer". It's that the owner "upgraded" it to be this way, on purpose. The modern white "minimalist" store layout practically mocks you as you come in the door. It looks too neat and tidy to get comfortable in. The lighting is of that dishonest sort of school-cafeteria-too-bright-to-be-good-food sort. The bare-wood benches and tables are comfortable enough I suppose, but there is really no place to get cozy or sink in, or sit and talk to a few of your friends. It's a place where boring 30something loners go on their way to work to get a coffee now, and nothing more. What if also definitely isn't now is a place to get bagel sandwiches. The core business of the previous regime has gone the way of the dodo now. READ: THE THING YOU WANTED TO BUY THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE? THEY DON"T EVEN HAVE THAT ANYMORE. How considerate of them. They have a half-hearted list of four bagel sandwich options, all of which are super standard. Bagel with arugula and cheese. Bagel with bacon and cheese. That's about it. Know the reason they had a line out the door? That's completely dead. I got a Bagel Bacon Egg and cheddar sandwich. The bacon and the cheese were a vast improvement from Bagel Rising, but putting the same bagel and maybe a dollars worth of toppings into the EIGHT DOLLAR+ range just isn't forgivable. Way way too expensive. I can get dinner for that much. When i was there at SUNDAY 10:00AM, total ALL HANDS ON DECK time for a breakfast/coffee place, there was no epic line. The place was a ghost town. There were, at the highest point, four people waiting. The cashier rudely forgot to give me my drink, and proceeded to tell me i was wrong in asking for a bottle opener, since my bottled coke "has a screw off cap" (which it clearly doesn't) and couldn't even find the bottle opener. A nice lady in line lent me the one on her key-ring. The offensive part of this conversion of the BAGEL RISING to a PAVEMENT is the sort of arrogant corporate insistence that "hey you know that thing you like? we're going to change it into this new thing, and you are going to go to it instead because there isn't anything else!". That's the offensive part. If it weren't for the great memories of bagel rising, It would just be a forgettable coffee place I wouldn't ever go to again. But because of them, Pavement is a scar on allston's landscape. It's having Bunratty's become a date-rape bar for BU kids (way to go Wonderbar). It's the phantom pains in a parapalegic's severed arm stub. Thanks for the memories Bagel Rising. But if I wanted the horrible starbucks type of experience, i'd just go the the starbucks across the street. read more
